TextEdit doesn't show, but starts?
All of a sudden, Text Edit will not work/start. I upgraded an Adobe application, but that's never affected other apps before.
When I d-click a txt file or try to open the app, TextEdit opens but there is no window. If I try File-New, a little close icon from Safari appears on the desktop as untitled and I can't do anything with it.
Then, I tried to Zoom the window and a new one opened but none of the other txt files, supposedly open, came up. I can't do anything in the new window.
I did repair permissions the other day but is there any other way to check just TextEdit?

Try deleting the Text Edit preference file. com.apple.textedit.com
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Your Mac will create a new TextEdit pref file for you the next time you open it.
See if that helps...
if not, in that same folder, delete this file also: com.apple.recentitems.plist

On the Zunerama Forums my Zunecard doesn't show but is fine with IE
Hi all, when I go to the forums on Zunerama.com my Zunecard, which is like a signature should load up, (I think it flash) sometimes it does, but most of the times it says 'loading' but doesn't get any further than that. Occasionally it shows, that's what is baffling me.. for example before I turned the PC off last night it was fine, but this morning, it's back to not showing,
all other sites work fine.
If I use slow Internet Explorer it will load up fine.
I have updated Flash and Java.

SMC 4.0 doesn't show correct start page after the installation

CS3 – Stroke doesn't show but it's there
Hi...
I think i did something while working on a document... the problem is, when i draw a marquee (selection) and right-click -> stroke... nothing shows on the layer. The stroke is there as it's hiding parts of the layer below.
In a new document, no problem. In an existing layer of the original document no problem. In a new layer and an empty layer (created by duplicating and deleting content) – Problem.
Yes, i've checked blending modes. If i set it to multiply it shows up. If i apply the stroke several times it shows up, either in stages or all at once on the second or third apply stroke.
The point is, on the first apply stroke... nothing is visible but it 'knocks' out the portions of the image below...

JJI think this probelm has the potential to be a broad number of things, simply to do with the settings on that layer. Make sure the opacity and fill are 100%. Make sure the blending mode is set to normal (unless you want a certian effect, but then remebr things like overlay, screen, lighten, etc, dont show up on white). Make sure your layer is currently viewable in the layers pallette with the little eye icon. You could also try deleting all blending modes from the layer, then re-creating them just in cse you clicked on something randomly that stopped it from showing, and don't know what it was, where to find it, or even if you did.
P.S Sorry if any of that sounded simple and "duh" if your an experienced photoshop user, i'm just listing things that it could be.

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later -run Option #4 to rebuild the database -
I was using iMovie yesterday and it was working perfectly. But today when it started it doesn't show anything in the window on the left. No events, no projects, nothing. It's blank and so is the rest of the screen. Does anyone know what my problem might be?

If you do not see the events or clips you were working with previously, first see if you can switch back to the library you were using with this method:
Show or hide the Libraries list
You select libraries and events in the Libraries list.
To show the Libraries list: Click the Show button on the left side of the toolbar.
The default location for iMovie libraries is the Movies folder in your home folder.

i just update my iPhone which was previously jailbreaked when i update it after downloading all the file it start to show the apple logo for a moment and it went and completely turned off i tried to connect through iTunes but it doesn't show any iPhone connected to itunes

Old IMAC with 10.5.6 OSX. Forgot Administrator password (which I had already changed.) Followed instructions as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
Started up from the original OSX install disc 1 and selected "Password reset" from "utilies" in Installer. But HD icon doesn't show up. (Only install disc and admin root available:no good as the support website underscores: Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.).
What can I do?

IPod connects and charges, but now doesn't show up on desktop or in iTunes
I've seen numerous threads/topics about iPods not connecting/showing up...and most say to reset, but if i can't even get it to show up in iTunes in order to reset how do I go about this?? Also, if I reset, am I losing all my music/worked saved on it??
I plug it in and it flashes like normal when its connected on the iPod screen, but it doesnt show up on the desktop or pop up in iTunes.
thanks in advance!A reset is just rebooting the iPod. You will not lose anything and can be done without a computer...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

so i connected my ipod shuffle to my apple computer and the status light on my ipod shuffle shows that it is charging but when i look for it on the pc dock or in itunes it doesn't show it at all.... so what do I do???

I use iphone5, I see an app update on the app store. but when App store and click on the update tab, it doesn't show me which application to update.. just gives me a blank page.!!!! You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....

So to give a little big of a background on my computer. I got it January 2009 as a graduation gift, because I was going to get a degree in Graphic Design and Animation. I only worked on it [mostly brousing the web, and itunes] for about 6 months because I was taking all of my general courses for college. I then met my boyfriend [late 2009] and moved in with him, my boyfriend has a macbook so I left my mac at my parents house. I was only Using it every now and then and it would be idle/ or shut off the rest of the time.
Fast forward to fall 2011. Me and my boyfriend live in a condo so I brought my computer over because I am now taking graphic design courses and need my computer. I installed a free 30 day trial of adobe cs5.5. It made my computer kind of slow and it froze alot even though I still have over 250gb's of memory in it. After the trial ended I kind of stoped using my computer again, rather installing the free trials of cs5.5 on my mom and my boyfriends macs until I had enought money saved up to buy it.
Here's where it gets tricky.
So now its March 2012 and I tried uninstalling the trial of cs5.5 on my computer since it was just taking up un needed space. I had to uninstall all of the programs one at a time other wise it would freeze up. I have had to hold the power button down to get it to turn off because i couldn't even move the mouse even after waiting a while. Anyhow I get to the last program and it keeps freezing, I tried shutting down my computer via<apple< shut down. But when I start it up again I got a file with a question mark flashing on my screen. So I looked up how to fix that and had to locate where to start up [I selected my hard drive] then I was able to get on to my computer.
So then I go to disk utilitys and do a repair on my internal hard drive to fix if there were any messed up files. After the files are repaired I figure I'll restart it and let everything get up to date. When I do I get the gray screen with the apple and the spinning wheel. This happens OVER and OVER. I tried soft reseting it, manually turning off the computer, you name it. But it still keeps happening. So I figure I'll just wipe it clean and reinstall the whole thing. [I have it backed up on an external drive]
I try to reinstall leopard 10.5 from the disk that came with my computer, all goes well until I gets to the 3rd screen where you select where to save it to, my hard drive doesn't show up. But if I connect my external hard drive it shows up right away. I try seeing if it pops up on disk utility, and it doesn't show up there either.
Is it possible that my hard drive is shot? I haven't really used my computer that much. Its pretty much sat at my parents house for 2 of the 3 years I've had it. So its not like I used it a whole lot.

Music plays in iTunes, but Finder doesn't show them
Okay this is wierd and I don't know if it belongs to iTunes or to HFS+.
When I start iTunes, I can see my whole library of about 50'000 songs. In the finder, at the same time, I see maybe 30 or 40 artists, way less than I have songs. Now, say, for example, in iTunes, I see "a-ha" as artist. In the finder windows that shows the directory where my music is, I don't see a-ha. Now, if I do a Get Info on a song of a-ha, suddenly, a-ha appears in the Finder. With exactly this album and exactly this song. If I Get Info of another song, that one appears too. Funny enough, with the correct creation dates and everything, as if that song always there and from there after, it is there. But not before. I do a daily backup to another disk (just copying, no mirroring), funny enough, that other disk behaves exactly the same: it doesn't show my music anymore.
If I open a terminal console, its the same: I don't see anything anymore there, but the according to Disk Utility, the amount of items on that disk is about correct. Does anyone have a clue what's happening here? I already verified both disks, no errors. They are attached using USB and each is part of a single 3TB concantenated RAID.Sounds to me like you might have disk directory problems. Try using disk utility to repair the disk (use repair instead of verify - just in case). If not, you might want to buy and try diskwarrior.
Have you tried rebooting? If not, try that first.
Also, try "right clicking" (or control-clicking) on a song, and select show in finder from the drop down menu - is the file where you think it should be?
