TextEdit doesn't respond
Can someone help me Fix TextEdit? In my Administrator account? I can't open old files in TextEdit; I can't save new files; nor copy old files. Nor can I open saved Sticky files; files saved as either as rtf files, nor as txt files.
This started when I opened a new user account for someone. I dragged documents and files from my Administrator account into my Shared file, but I don't think I did anything with them. I dragged documents and files into the other user account drop file. And, in an effort to put back something that I might have dragged out of my Administrator account, I dragged some back into my Admin drop box.
At some point I had to authenticate my actions by typing in my Administrator account password. I may have taken away my Administrator account privileges from TextEdit. Everything else works. And TextEdit works in all my other User accounts. I'm in an account that I set up for myself, so I don't further damage my Administrator account. And I intend to move every working file and Image over here when I fix this problem. I'll only use the Administrator account to Administrate.
Can anyone help me fix my TextEdit? Or reinstall it from my OS X 3.9 Panther Disc? I don't know which disc.
Or, help me retrieve my Administrator privlideges over my Administrator Account? And then tell me how I can use my Administrator password carefully over all my User accounts?

Let's start with you admin account. I suggest you create a new admin account which will be strictly admin and used for little else. You current admin account and all other accounts will be standard or restricted.
Here's how:
Most likely you have already set up your account, and just as likely it's an admin account. What do you do? In Mac OS X, changing this is relatively easy. Let’s assume you have one account on your computer and it's an admin account. Here’s how you change it:
•Go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences> Accounts. Click on Accounts.
•Click the under Login Options to add an account.
•Check the box to let that user "Allow User to administer this computer." You are temporarily creating a second admin account. Be sure you give it a good password and that you remember it! (More about passwords later, but just choose one now, you can change it later.)
•Log out by going to the Apple Menu and select Logout whoever at the very bottom of the list.
•Go back to System Preferences > Accounts, and find your original user.
•Uncheck the box for that account that allows it to administer the computer. You've now changed your regular account into a Standard user account and you've created a new admin account that you'll hardly ever use. That's the point: only use the admin account when you absolutely need to.
The next step will be to try to restore privileges to your files.

    In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • 10.2.8 Client, error code -1712

    Suddenly last week after several months of working fine, our 10.2 and 10.4 clients couldn't login. The 10.3 clients login to Network Home Directories just fine. You can use the same network account login on 10.3 client and it responds. A login on 10.2 or 10.4 does not. Apple support has not been successful either.
    10.2 stays on the login window for hours. The barber pole keeps going. 10.4's login window goes dull and eventually will time out.
    The server is an Xserve with 10.3.9 Server running.
    I've run Repair Permissions, Disk Repair and Disk Warrior. I reimaged the client with our stand .dmg. It logged in OK until I updated it via Software Update.
    Eventually if you leave the 10.2 client trying to login for hours a Desktop will be displayed and the message,
    "The Operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -1712)"
    I'm at my wit's end. I don't have enough money to upgrade all the Jaguar to Tiger or Panther. I'm hoping someone here has some insight. Thanks.
    10.2 and 10.4 clients   Mac OS X (10.2.x)  

    Check your 10.2.8 machines Directory Access and make sure LdapV2 is not checked and also that Ldap V3 is checked and configured correctly. I found that if I had both Ldapv2 and v3 on my 10.2.8 clients could not log in. 10.3 clients only have the option for Ldap V3, so it is not an issue.

  • Why do I get "error code 3: Could not load front panel" when I run my executable​.

    I have a LV 8.5 VI that controls only an agilent spectum analyzer. The agilent VIs call DLLs rather than SCPI commands. I created an application and an installer to load on a non LV machine and ran setup which was successful. When I run the EXE I get "error code 3: Could not load front panel" for each of my agilent spectrum analyzer VIs. I have to click "OK" about ten times, once for each VI. (My executable runs fine on all machines that have labview 8.5) The front panel does load with a broken arrow. The errors listed when the arrow is clicked for all of the Agilent VIs state: Missing subVI AGE444xInitialize.VI (or close.VI or read.VI etc.)
    There is an AGE444x32.DLL in the data folder with the EXE file so I included as support both the DLL and all of the agilent drivers in the application build. Still no luck. I have built the application and installer about 6 times in various forms. I NEED AIR SUPPORT.
    Unfortunately I do not have access to the internet at my jobsite so bear with me.

    I was having the same problem using ADE 4.0.2 and Mac 10.10.1. I finally gave up and deleted ADE version 4 and reinstalled version 3.0.  Works fine, and I can check out ebooks for my Nook using ADE.

    Yeah...I think I found that one out the hard way already. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I want to get this issue fixed before I start thinking about the license issue.

    I had read that thread before posting this. However, this is lightly different.
    From other sites I can see that if it's caused by indexing, the error msg would say so and also tell you which attribute it is.
    Some one suggested it's OID dropping the database connections intermittantly and should check both CRS ORACLE_HOME and RDBMS ORACLE_HOME have SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME set and check the TNS and alert logs on the DB side for any other possible connection failure.
    From some OID log we do see it has lost database connection:

  • MySQL Connection - Select Database - HTTP Error Code 405 Method Not Allowed?

    We've set up a MySQL database with our host and can connect to that, and create, edit, delete tables using HeidiSQL, without a problem.
    However when we attempt to set up the connection in the Databases tab of our Applications panel in Dreamweaver we receive the following error:
    HTTP Error Code 405 Method Not Allowed
    We have entered the following in the MySQL Connection box:
    Name: <name of our connection>
    Server: <IP address of our database>
    Username: <our database username>
    Password: <our database password>
    Database:
    When we click the "Select" option next to the Database field, that's when we receive the above mentioned error.
    We noticed that there was a fix posted by Adobe at:

    ...but that link is long since dead, however it does seem to indicate that Adobe are/were aware of this issue.
    Can anyone help?  We're trying to move from Classic ASP / MSSQL to PHP / MySQL but have hit a barrier right from the off, which isn't very encouraging.  Hope someone can ease our concerns with PHP and MySQL.

    I had the Testing Server set to Local/Network but didn't have MySQL installed locally.  Changed that setting to FTP and it picked up on the database correctly.
    When using MSSQL it doesn't matter whether you choose Local/Network or FTP it just picks up the online database regardless.  I guess this must just be a difference between it and MySQL.

    I tried to use an external hard drive from my windows computer that was formatted in NTFS Windows format.  Mac Pro sees that hard drive as "read only".  Itunes works on existing media on the hard drive to play music or movies, but when you try to purchase from itunes store and download you get the above message.  You need to move your library to a library that is formatted in exFAT format (which can be used both by "windows" and mac computers.

    My main DLL is one written in C in LabWindows.  This DLL calls a second DLL that was written in Visual C++
    I am using TestStand 2010 SP1 as well as CVI/LabWindows 2010.  I have WinXP Professioanl SP3.
    This same sequence, DLL1, and DLL2 have worked together in previous versions of TestStand!!!!  All I did was upgrade to Developer Suite 2011.......??????
    I have reviewed all the posts regarding this problem and have so far done the following:
    1.  Verified Both DLL1 and DLL2 reside in the same directory
    2.  Copied DLL2 into C:\Windows\system32
    3.  Used Dependency Walker to verify that there are no other missing DLL's
    4.  Unistalled Explorer 8 and installed Explorer 7 because of somthing I saw in depends and something I read while researching this problem.
    5.  Verified the Search Directories in TestStand
    I am wits end, as I cannot determine what the problem is and any suggestions would be welcome

    So I did come up with a solution to this problem, but I don't understand why it solves the issue.  Hopefully some of you can provide some insight.
    So all my sequences were experiencing the problem described, and all sequences basically call the same dll's over and over.
    I have a dll that I use as my "main" dll.  All my sequences use this dll and I continually add more functions as our company designes new products, etc.  This dll uses functions that are from my CommDll.  The CommDll was written in C++, and it is also used in several other dll's that my sequence call's as I use it for all serial/telnet requirements. 
    So my test sequences for example calls the following dll's usually in this particular order ---
    DbDriver - This dll handles all the database functioanality for our products, and calls libMysql.dll
    PwrController.dll - this dll controls a pwrcontroller for all power on/power off, reboot, etc of our product.  This dll calls the CommDll.
    CompanyDll - This is the "main" dll that hadles all the cli commands and other test functions that our product requires.  This also calls CommDll.
    When the sequence calls are done in the order above, it does not work..  However, if I switch the sequence file to call the CompanyDll before the PwrController.dll everything works fine.  Is there an order of operations here????
    I also found that when I compiled my PwrController.dll with CVI 2010, it gave me an error could not load PwrController.dll no matter what order the seqence calls were, leading me to believe that I am missing something when building this particular dll.  As soon as I copy the original, developed and compiled in 2006, everything works again.

    While installation i am getting error while validating system configuration (for HTTP, Virtual Directory, Login Page,JSP and Help page)

    RW-50015: Error: - HTTP Listener is not responding. The service might not have started on the port yet. Please check the service and use the retry button.
    when i try to $INST_TOP/admin/scripts/adstrtal.sh apps/apps am getting error for opmn,form service.
    opmn log file says.
    getaddrinfo(localhost, NULL, 1) failed (Temporary failure in name resolution): Connection refused
    when i try to check $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.3/Apache/ for error log and access log , i could not find any file in this location.

  • Annoying error 2:  ViewController may not respond to -enableBBI

    Developers,
    This is my second annoying error. The code works fine, but i get the following error message when i run the app "viewcontroller may not respond to -enableBBI".
    The code i am using is below and i have placed ///Error/// next to parts of the code that trigger the error. The part of the code that shows an error is used to enable a Bar Button item.
    Is there anything i can do to prevent this? or does it not really matter?

    See xnav's suggestion, then add the following at the end of the file and move enableBBI inside:
    @implementation YourViewControllerName (PrivateMethods)
    - (void)enableBBI
    @end
    Using categories in this way is just a trick to simulate private methods in Objective-C. That way, you can define your methods where you want in the file without having to put them into the header file for all the world to see.
    You can create new categories for any class, including Cocoa classes like NSString, etc.
