TextEdit, Untitled Files, Got deleted
I was opeing a file from a different drive and TextEdit gave me some kind of conflict issue. I failed to read it closely but when I canceled the dialog one of my "Untitled " files went missing from my Mac Pro.
Just where are these files stored and how can I recover this missing file?
Since the "new" method allows for sloppy file management, yes I am guilty of not "saving" the file, where are these files stored?
Time Machine is operational, but not knowing where the files are stored, well, where would I look?
iCloud is active, but there is no easy way to figure out how to recover a file from there, which I find really a serious flaw.
Just need some direction, where to look please.
From 1984 thru OS 10.6.8 you could not quit a Mac application - either by File Menu > Quit, Cmd-Q or by pure accident (I meant to hit a different key combination, really...) and not get warned there were unsaved documents. And you would be lead thru each one to save or cancel. It matered not whether it was Simple Text, Teach Text or Text Edit, or some non-Apple program.
-- That all changed in 10.7.
And I did not turn on save documents and data in the cloud, it got turned on by default (unless I did that back when and don't remember doing so). I have been using the iCloud since it became iCloud, morphed from Mobile Me morphed from Dot Mac.
My OP was simply a query as to just where this document went as all the rest of the non-critical unsaved windows were still there and all I did was to cancel some dialog inquiry, not realizing what the OS would do to that cancel.
All this information will help those truly not Mac proficient.
I suspect that these unsaved documents, without Save Documents and Data in the Cloud turned on would have either not been messed with (since I had changed information in that window and not on the other computer originally) or would have disappeared the first time I entered trivial info into a window in Text Edit and not saved it.
And yes - please rest assured, there are 5 ways to quit a program - by File > Quit, Cmd-Q key press, by unexpected power loss (before you have saved if you had intended to do so), inadvertant shut down AND by simple lousy typing - you meant Cmd-Tab, Cmd-W, Cmd-A, or something else, but not Cmd-Q.

Cannot connect to database because log file is deleted
Greetings,
I just recently cleaned up some junk files from my PC and didn't realize that an oracle log file got deleted. Therefore when I try to connect to the database I got the following error:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
From sql plus, I try to shutdown and startup the database so that I know what kind of file that got deleted. So, how can I fix the problem?
regards,
valerie

Following a message saying that my Startup disc was full and advising me to delete some files, I deleted my trash but then apps started to fail. When I tried to log on again, all I got was a blank screen and a cursor, so I am unable to delete any more files. I am a Mac Book Pro virgin, help
How much free space do you actually have? Go to the Apple menu and select About This Mac... More Info... and click on the Storage tab. You should see something like this...
This will show you how much free space you have and what's taking up all the space on your hard drive. You may need to backup and trash some seldom used files, applications, etc. You have to drag them into the Trash and empty the trash to regain the space. A general rule of thumb is that you should have about 15% of your hard drive storage free.
Good luck,

PLEASE HELP!!! Somehow my entire iTunes library got deleted, and I cannot sync all my music that I put on from cd's (which I no longer have). All the purchased music has been synced, but nothing else! All my other devices are synced with iCloud and lost the material as well ... I am so frustrated, because the nano has not been working properly, and I am afraid of losing it forever, and of course the cd's I backed everything with are MIA!!!! GRRR! Please HELP!!!
Thank you so much!I can't tell from your post what you have and what you don't have. Are you saying the files are no longer on your computer, no longer on your iPod, or both?

My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. I have lost all music & data that was on this original itunes. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone (music & photos) onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my iphone (3GS), but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it. Help please!!
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go. -
Table entries got deleted ,how can we find who has deleted these entries
Hi Team,
We are using ECC6 /Oracle,few days back 2000 entries got deleted from one table.
How can we get the log for deleted entries with all the details like User ID ,Date and time of Deletion.
I have already checked STAD and DBACOCKPIT for SQL queries of deletion of records but could not find any log .
Kindly help me to resolve this issue.Yes, under controlled situation, you can find some information(at least date and time with what was deleted) even if deleted from SQL level.
You can use ORACLE's log miner - Using LogMiner to Analyze Redo Log Files
Or have a look at this note: 1128990 - Using Oracle Logminer with Oracle >= 10g

why cant i download itunes on my windows 7 pc? i used to have itunes on my pc once but it was not uploded for a while and got deleted...and now i have tried to download it and all i got was "thanks for download itunes"...after that i have tired to dwnload it from another web browser and ive got the same thing.....!!
Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

from some reason (i'm not sure why..) my whole iphoto library got deleted. I restored the whole library from my backup. Now all the photos are blank but steel have the photo info. (date, res., size etc.) Do you know what's the prob.? why can't i see my pics.
It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced? If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded? Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network? -
my drives got deleted from my home pc saw i had to re place all the drives & i bought loads of tunes & albums from itunes & now nor longer have them. could someboby plz recommend a way for me to be able to retrieve them as they cost me a lot of money & dont really see why i shouldn't be able to download these again.
Do you not have a backup of the computer that you can retrieve the files from?
If not, you can redownload purchases by clicking "Purchased" under Quick Links at the top right of the iTunes store.
Downloading past purchases:

I'm trying to add events to my calendar after they got deleted and it won't let me because the + is grey when it should be orange. Does anyone know what to do?
You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. Question about slowdown - how iPhoto's database works
If I import X number of photos, edit them, export them, and then delete them from the library... does that impact in any way? I only have about 12,000 photos in my library, but it's slow at different times... such as browsing photos in full screen...
