Textfield properties - differences in Anti-alias

Can anyone explain what's the differences and usage of Anti-alias:
1) device fonts
2) bitmap-text
3) Anti-alias for animation
4) Anti-alias for readability

Anti-aliasing, basically, removes 'jaggies' and 'pixelation' by smoothing out vectors. So on things like text, which are vectors, the text looks smooth.
Device fonts uses the fonts of the users operating system and are not anti-aliased. So they will appear jagged and pixely. However people can take advantage of making sure characters (especially asian multi-byte) are available and do not need to be embedded into flash saving you lots of file size.
Anti-alias for animation is a less expensive, easier to render but softer looking version of anti-aliasing. Good for non-text vectors. They call it animation because it's easier on the processor to render.
Anti-alias for readability adds a contrast bump to edges making text look sharper, thus more readable.
The bitmap-text isn't vector. It saves the text as bitmaps and typically you'd only do this if you intend to use bitmaps. You choose the size of the font and then it's not really good to use alternate sizes for fonts other than what you select. This is useful for games who sometimes don't want the overhead of rendering the vectors for text. Instead the text is just a bitmap and is easier to render.

  • Anti-alias problems in .png

I have an image that is made up of three long narrow strips of colour that close to a point at one end.  Those three strips are flipped and the points placed end to end so it's like a ribbon with one twist in it but in a straight line.
If I save for web as a .png the colors bleed into each other.  It's only 12px high with each strip being 4px.  If I turn off anti-alias the bleeding stops but the points of the ribbon look bad.
I am not sure what to do about that.

Probably nothing. This sounds perfectly normal. The only way to possibly avoid it would IMO be to construct each strip as a separate layer in PS, then apply selective color corrections near the tip to improve the perceived color blending...

  • Library font Bitmap text (no anti-alias) Flash CS5

Ok, in previous version of flash we had this window:
But now in Flash CS5 the new font embedding window is changed, and there is no Bitmap text checkbox, so how am I to create dynamic Text Fields with ActionScript, and embed the fonts in them using Bitmap text [no anti-alias]? And don't give me the GridFitType.PIXEL solution, I want true Bitmap text.

Can someone please help me with the above problem?
I've published two images to show what appen.
    This it's the correct
one (without embedding font and with font installed in the client
    machine).
    This it's the wrong one
(with font embedded and not installed in the client machine).
    I'm so sad... thanks

  • CS 4 - Arial no anti-alias problem

Hi - I've been using CS4 which I purchased recently.
I don't know if its a bug or not, but when I select the arial
font and set it to no anti-alias it changes to 'arial MT' which
isn't the same. If it's set to 'smooth anti-alias' it stays as
arial. It's really really annoying. Does anyone know of a fix for
    this?
I know we work with anti-alias but why can't the fonts look
smooth and crisp like a web page renders them?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jared.

Adobe has some good people but I'm afraid they also have a
    lot of folks who
are clearly (no pun intended) deluded about some things.

  • Where are the anti-alias options for 3D Rendering in Photoshop CS6?

Ok so I am trying to make a 3D globe, but using CS6 (i have designed in 3D in CS5 before but want to familiarise myself with the process for CS6). The problem is that the edges of the sphere are a little sketchy and I want to change anti-alias settings to solve the problem but cannot seem to find them anywhere
Does anybody happen to know where they have been moved to? Thanks

Well as it turns out this "all new CS6 Extended" has gone back in time. So many of the useful options from CS4 (sorry I thought I did this on CS5 before but I was mistaken) have been scrapped or hidden away to somewhere that only the guy who designed the Photoshop layout would know. Heres a hint for the guys at Adobe, don't take away the useful stuff when you release a new version... Bring in MORE useful stuff...

  • Can we disable the anti-alias option for the quick selection tool?

Can we disable the anti-alias option for the quick selection tool?
I can deselect it with the magic wand but not with the quick selection. Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Dominik

I don't think you can, but in the refine edge dialog you can use the contrast setting to get rid of most of the anti-alias.

  • Can't use Bangla font in anti-alias "anti-alias for animation"....help needed!

Hi, the problem I am having with adobe flash pro cs6 is that I am trying to use Bangla font in flash. Although the font shows up but in anti-alias "anti-alias for animation" mode, the fonts become all scattered and disordered. But when I switch to "use device font", the work okay. But in using device font, I cant really use the subscript or superscript button. So then again I have to switch back to "anti-alias for animation". I am getting sick of it. Is there any way around it?
I have added an image for you to understand my query ............
Someone else "deval mistry" posted the same problem on Mangal font here.... https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1697054

    I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

  • Jagged edge of Smart Object in PS CC. Anti-alias is disabled.

I created a rectangle shape in PS and make it as Smart Object. I get jagged edged Smart Object when I do rotate, skew or perspective it.
Someone suggested that turning on the anti-alias feature in the option bar would solve this issue. However, When I do free transform Smart Object, the anti-alias feature is diabled.
Has anyone experienced this kind of issue and found the solution?
    Thanks

Thanks for the help. Your suggestion would be work when I use shapes in Smart Object, however, what I am trying to do is to create a shape or any object and make it Smart Object as a container. Objects in Smart Object can be anything.
Image Interpolation setting in PS Preference is Bicubic. I tried with Bicubic automatic but I had a same result. Also I tried with raster graphics, but it still seemed jagged.
    The line looks Jagged
    Here's another example.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks!

  • Frame Controls: Anti-Alias & Details Level

Can anyone give me a general rule of thumb as to when these need to be used, and exactly how much. 1-100 seems like a lot of leeway...
    Thanks.

Those settings are not very well documented. Here is what the Compressor User Manual says:
Adaptive Details: Select this checkbox to use advanced image analysis to distinguish between noise and edge areas.
    • Anti-alias: Use this slider to set a softness level from 0 to 100. This parameter improves the quality of conversions when you’re scaling media up. For example, when transcoding standard definition video to high definition, Anti-alias smooths out jagged edges that might appear in the image.
    • Details Level: Use this slider to set a level (from 0 to 100) to preserve sharp edges. This is a sharpening control that lets you add detail back to an image being enlarged. Unlike other sharpening operations, the Details Level setting is able to distinguish between noise and feature details, and generally doesn’t increase unwanted grain. Increasing this parameter may introduce jagged edges, however, which can be eliminated by increasing the Anti-alias level.
Note: Adaptive Details, Anti-alias, and Details Level pertain only to frame resizing (scaling), not deinterlacing.
You really have to do some tests, as this depends on the kind of content and the source/delivery frame size.
I watched a presentation from WWDC 2007, where Doug Werner, who compress video for http://www.apple.com/trailers (using Compressor - which is not a toy as some may think), said he used to choose a Detail Level of 50, when downscaling from 1080p to 480p, but for that particular clip he changed it to 20 (Resize filter was set to Better, and Adaptive Details was not checked). Apparently, sharpening also applies to downscaling and not only to enlarging as the user manual might indicate.
To really get the best results, do some short tests on relevant parts of your media before you apply your settings or save them as presets, because there is a lot of different content that has to be handled in different ways.
I guess the general rule of thumb would be: Test, test, test, and use what you see and learn from the results to fine tune your settings for that particular type of content. Action content with a lot of fast cuts and motion, often demands more care and attention than the opposite.
Use the recommendations/tips from others to guide you in the right direction, but use the settings you think looks the best in the end.
    Good luck!

  • Anti alias and Use device font not why is that not working?

I am editing a flash template that I have and I know
about the anti alias setting and I went through all the text boxes and set them to use device fonts and they all seem to b
e working except for the sliding text boxes, see attached images that show the sliding box (the gray color) and the text box behind it, when I drill down to the text box it is set to use device fonts already but when I enter my text it does not show all the letters (the W A and V for example are missing) I know that is caused by the Antialias setting but I am unable to find what is set to that in this sliding box, what am I missing? I am a very novice user so please be as detailed as you can in you answer, I can provide any information needed. Thank s in advance.
    I am using CS10

I had the same issue. They say that because TRC Sri Lanka haven't registered IPad or apple as a safe product. That means the IMEI of apple products will not match with srilankan regulatory specifications. But this issue will be solved in near future. Please contact telecommunications and regulatory bord for details. Dialog axiata can't help.

  • Paint Bucket Dump Won't Anti-Alias

I made a selection with the magic wand (with the anti-alias box checked), made a new layer, and dumped a color in with the paint bucket (anti-alias box is checked). But, the edges are not anti-aliased. I am running Photoshop CC on Mac OS 10.6.8, and this problem occurred in a .tiff file and a .psd file. I can't imagine what I am missing here. Help!

Probably because of the selection. The fill can not blend beyond the selection and therefore gives you a hard edge.
What you can do is feather the selection which can be done in the refine edge dialog box or From the menu Select>Modify> Feather or Select>Modify>Expand.
Using expand will push out the selection so your anti-aliasing can work better.

  • Anti-alias

    hi,
I use Preview to check pictures of insects (focus, etc...) and it's very hard to evaluate picture sharpness as long as an anti-alias algorithm is always activated : the picture is very sharp and half a second later is all "dithered".
Is there a possibility to deactivate this ?
I do not want to use software as Gimp or Photoshop : these softwares always open all the pictures selected in a new window and it's quite unusable with hundreds of 2000x3000 pics.

    Hi again
I'm sorry. Bad use of terminology I suppose. What I meant by
"background shading" was to do the following:
Double click the text. When you do this, you get a dialog
very similar to what you see when you edit a caption.
Now, drag the mouse across all the text
EXCEPT the first letter. Here is where you will apply what I
mistakenly referred to as the "background shading". I meant to say
"highlight". I get confused becase all it affects is the background
shading behind the text that is selected. If it were a true
highlight, I would expect that if I applied yellow for instance, my
black letters would be a bit washed out, as the yellow was applied
over the top of the letters. Instead, it applies shading behind
    them.
My question slide has a white background. So what I do is to
click the Highlight button to pop up the color picker. Then click
    the More Colors... link.
As I said earlier, my background is white already. So I
choose a color that is extremely near white. The color mixer dialog
shows me RGB values of 255 each. All I do is change one of them to
    254.
Click OK to dismiss all the dialogs and preview.
If yours behaves like mine (and if it doesn't, I'm not sure
why) you should notice the anti-aliasing stops.
    Cheers... Rick

  • "Anti-alias" greyed out when free-transforming smart objects.

While resizing smart objects, I noticed that the anti-aliasing was  very contrasting and not smooth enough for my purposes. I realized that  if I rasterized the smart object before resizing, the anti-aliasing was  better. I then noticed that there was a setting when free-transforming  smart objects called "anti-alias." However, I am unable to activate it  as it is greyed out. So, here's two questions:
    1) Is there a way to make the anti-aliasing for smart objects the same as that of rasterized objects?
    2) Is there a way to activate that "anti-alias" setting when free-transforming smart objects?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

On top of what Zeno Bokor wrote that while your doing the transform your viewing a quick scaled preview not the actual transformation you wrote
The SOs I'm talking about are bitmap images I made into SOs to be able to resize and edit without destructive changes, not imported vector graphics from AI.
You did not state how you made the bitmap images  into smart object.   If you just converted a layer you had been working on into a smart object some damage may have already been done to the bitmap image.  You might  get better results if you started out with a smart object layer to begin with by using ACR open as smart object option or by placing your camera jpeg images into your document as starting points.
