How do I setup a group of contacts to text?

Hmm, looks like there is functionality gap. I used to be able to do it with my HTC HD2 running mobile windows. I assumed it would be present in an iPhone 5s. Very disappointing!

Create your group on your computer, and sync it on your iPhone. But you cannot use this group for texting. You need an application for this. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.

When I click on my contacts icon on my phone there is a Groups choice in the upper left hand corner. Make sure you are in All Contacts and not a specific person.

I don't think so. Search for an app in App Store or create a message with all contacts you want and use this to send message to this group of people.

You have to use a 3rd party app to do this. Several are available, including ABContacts and Speed Names. For texting, these don't support iMessage but you can always start a group message to a set of contacts on your phone and then save to conversation to send a future message to the same list of contacts.

Im having the same problem. This started with iOS 8 and Yosemite. Im in a group message with 10 people with and without iPhones. Currently have 9 threads and when ever a new person responds a new thread forms. they all have the same people but in a different order, that may be part of the reason why iMessage doesn't recognize them as the same conversation.
As I'm writing this post 3 new threads opened and other people with and without iPhones are mentioning the same problem

Go into messages, then click the icon at the top right to create a new message, then click the plus sign to add the contacts you want to text.

I have a Z10 blackberry and I want to creat groups in contacts to be able to send messages to several personns at the same time.
Could you help me please.
I would like to know also if it is possible to call a personn when we are in the text messages application and if it is possible to send messages to a contact from the application contacts.

Hello Marie-Annick, the group addresses feature is currently not available ON the device itself.

In the text messages, touch the name of the person at the blue top > you're taken that contact's Address Book entry > touch the number to call.
From the Contacts application with a contact open touch and hold the number you wish to call. You'll see entries Call XXX or Text XXX.

Here's a thought: Text-Lock for certain contacts (bosses) so that you can't text them without unlocking

Ok, so i've never made this mistake, but I almost have.. My best bud Ron T. is right next to my boss Ron H.. I have never texted or called my boss, however I often text mildly to severely offensive or inappropriate messages to my friend Ron T., and I have caught myself a few times too close to hitting Ron H. (boss).. I also on one occasion did hit his name but realized and reselected the correct contact.. I have almost no reason to text Ron H. (Boss) and I'd love the option to make him unselectable for texting unless i put in a password or something.. I'm sure there would be other applications for this as well. I'm not sure if this is possible through apps or groups or something yet but it'd be a nice built-in Contacts feature.. I would guess you could group the contacts you DO text or something but I think a better option is blocking rather than hiding..

Hi there, I would like to know how to group people/phone numbers together under one category. For instance I have a ton of people from work I need to put into my phone but want to put them and their numbers all under one category like "Work" and be able to open it up and theres all my contacts from work. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I did look for answers but I kept getting things about grouping emails and thats not what I'm looking for,

You can create groups of contacts on your computer, then sync them on your iPhone. But you will not be able to select a group as text recipient. As of today, you need an application for that. I have create a free application, Easy Group, to handle this missing feature.

Using "Groups" within "Contacts", Messages and Mail

Why did Apple change in IOS 6 how you now view groups in contacts? Before it was easy, but now it's just plain stupid. Did anybody check this before it was released?
Before when I selected the group I wanted it would then display who was in that group. Now in order to see who is in the group I have to go to groups, de-select the groups I don't want to see and then go back to then view the group/s that are remaining..... dumb dumb dumb. That is dumb! How did this ever get by the review process?
And still you can't send texts by selecting a group, you still have to add each recipient individually and no more than eight recipients. The same goes for mail as well when it comes to adding a group (you can't). Apple, this really can't be that hard to do.... come on, this is suppose to be easy and not tedious.
There's certainly nothing "World Class" about this.

iTunes usese SyncServices to gather the information on what is available, and to syn the information over.
Often reseting sync history will resolve issues like this. The following article has more information on how to reset sync history:

Hi, is there anyway I can creat some groups in contacts which I can use only for texting purpose (not for e mails). I do not want to sync it with any of the outlooks or anything on the computer, but just creat a grouop from within iphone contacts

Groups of contacts

There might not be a way to do this but I would like to make contacts for all the Facebook texts I get and give them names like John Appleseed Status or John Appleseed Wall. I don't want to add them to my main contact list because that would just clutter it up. Is there any way to have groups of contacts. My contacts are already synced with Gmail.

i would use this feature in my old phone for texting a group of people instead of resending the message to each recipiant.

You cannot create groups on the iPhone
If you have a Mac you can create groups in your Address Book and the sync them to the phone

How do I restore Groups to Contacts from time machine?

How do I restore groups to Contacts using time machine? I somehow managed to duplicate many groups and contacts in Contacts, so I deleted everything and tried to restore them using time machine backup from a few days before. It restored all my contacts, but none of my groups. If you select a group and click restore it will restore all the contacts in the group, but not the group itself. I had many groups with many contacts in each and would really prefer not to do this manually. I can see the groups in the time machine backup, but cannot figure out how to restore them. I know from researching online that with Address Books and previous operating systems you could go to ~Library/Applications Support/AddressBook and restore the whole file, but either this operating systems hides the necessary files or Contacts is set up differently than AddressBook was. I am using OS 10.9.5 and Contacts version 8.0 on a MacbookPro 13 inch mid 2010.

Here is what I have tried:
1. Finder>Go>(Option)Library>Address Book(highlighted)with files showing in right column. Opened Time Machine and Address Book folder is there. Tried to go back to several previous dates from several months ago. None will highlight in order for the Restore button to light up.
2. Finder>Mac HD (under Devices)>(Option)Library>Address Book (same as above). Again, cannot go anywhere back in time to highlight a date for Restore button to light up.
Note: I was able to use Time Machine to restore my Contacts with no problem. However, they are All Contacts only and did not restore my Groups. I do know how to make groups again and highlight and drag them back, but wanted to see if there was a way to restore the groups. I will post another question as to why my Time Machine won't let me restore the Address Book as well as the Contacts. Thank you for your time and patience.
