Texting a large number of people

I run a youth program and need to text 40 to 50 kids with real time meeting updates, etc. Vtext.com seems to indicate only 10 texts at a time. If I send via outlook mail is there still a 10 number limit? I can always break it into groups and send the text 4 times but it would be much easier if I could create a group in Outlook with the numbers and email to all at once. Any suggestions? Also, would be nice to have a call back number verses an e-mail address.

It seems that a very large number of people are re-installing verson 3.6 due to the vast number of problems with the latest version, will this force an extension of the support cutoff date for version 3.6?

We had to do some serious gymnastics to remove at least most of the ability to use IPB. We removed it from the gui, but unfortunately, if they know the hotkey, they can still bring it up. Security has some serious headaches with this, as by law they have to be able to track where students go, and going with private browsing removes their ability to do forensic work they're required to be able to do. Not a very well thought out feature from Mozilla in my opinion, but it is what it is. Successive versions have made it even more difficult to remove even the gui portion.
We do plan to release ESR due to the aforementioned security issues, but testing has been slow.

Possible bug for emails with a large number of recipients

When receiving emails which was also sent to a large number of people (more than can fit in two lines), it then displays the text 'and 10 more..." or however more there are. Clicking on this text is supposed to then display all the email addresses the email was sent to. However clicking on this is for some reason doing nothing. Is this a bug, or am I the only one having this problem?

Tethered shooting for large amount of people

Here's a little bit of background to my question. I have mainly used Lightroom for organizing imports from my Canon 6D and 7D along with developing them. The shoot I'm looking for help on, with these questions, is quite different from what I'm accustomed to. I am looking at taking portraits of a large number of people at a school fundraiser for a club where the lighting conditions are the same and the camera is on a tripod shooting with a tethered capture to a laptop. So if anyone could help with the following questions it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
1. Is it possible in tethered capture to have the metadata panel open at the same time and be able to have someone type down their email address for each individual picture?
2. Following question one, is it possible to email all the photos from the shoot individually to the recipients listed in the metadata?
3. Can Lightroom automatically print photos after taken from a tethered shoot?
4. Can Lightroom save specific tags in the metadata from a collection into a text file where they are listed along with the file name?
A bit of help with any of the questions would be great, haven't attempted anything like this before and frankly haven't found anything that could help in the documentation for Lightroom. I do apologize for any confusing wording, my computer wasn't accessible from where I am so this was typed on a iPhone.

The tethered capture floating tool panel is not modal - you can still use Lightroom's regular panels and tools while it's open, so working on a file while a session is active is no problem (provided a new shot doesn't arrive and auto-advance is turned on).
Lightroom cannot directly email images to an address taken from the IPTC metadata, for that you would need either a plugin or an external application. I don't know of one currently available.
Again, exporting metadata to a text file is a job for a plugin - but this time there are several available (such as http://www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/lrtransporter.php )

more than likely they will never know the text did not go through. If the number was assigned to someone else they will get your text message. I did this last week and the person texted me back asking who I was. I responded and apologized and they said no problem.

You will have to contact Google's Android division on this issue, not Sony.
You have to see this pop up or this feature as a way to protect you, some people don't have unlimited text messages, and there are apps that might start sending large amounts of texts.

I am using adobe elements organizer 12- How do I tag or sort a large number of portrait photos so it is searchable by first and last name of subject? do i make separate tags for first and last names? is there a better way of doing this?

Creating separate tags for first and last name, possibly also by birth name and nickname is the best solution in my opinion. Finally, you create less different keywords, since people share first and last names.
You can also enter the full name in a caption and use the advanced search menu for captions 'containing' a text string. That works even if the caption contains several names for several persons in the picture.

Mail - how to send to large number of recipients?

How can I send an email to a large number of recipients that I hold addresses for in a document without a) adding them to my contacts, and b) so that they can't all see each others addresses?

I thought about using BCC, but it seems a little messy although it would do the job.
Messy how? That's exactly what it's for. In fact, there's no other way to hide addresses from other recipients of the message. The only other way to do it would be to script automated sending of one message per address, and that would get quite messy!

There's no limit enforced by Mail, AFAIK. The limits come from the SMTP server you're using.
One of the issues I had when using Outlook on Windows for this by copying and pasting from a text document, was that if there was an invalid/non-existent address in the list, it would just return an error and I was never quite sure if the whole thing didn't send, or if it was just to the dodgy address(es).
In Mail, you'll just get a bounce message for any addresses that don't exist. The one exception to that is addresses on the same server that you're sending from... often, the server will simply reject the attempt to send to an address that it knows doesn't exist. I'm not sure what kind of message the server returns in that case, though, and suspect it depends on the server. It's been a while since I've seen such a problem.

We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone. If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!! And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

Loading FF4 wiped out a large number of tabs, how do I restore?

I thought I was loading a security update. WHAT?! ALL MY TABS I WAS USING ARE WIPED OUT? Really? Or have you added a way to restore them?
Apparently the default setting on FF4 is to destroy the preserved tabs during the update.
My browser had a large number of tabs preserved. FF4 apparently wiped them out without asking. WTF people, why pull such unexpected stuff on your users. (Yes, I'm really pissed. It will take me hours to track down a couple of those pages again.) It wouldn't have been so bad if I knew I was getting FF4. Then I could bookmark the open pages. Again, I thought it was a security update.
The fix: have FF4 detect preserved tabs once (during the update,) then display a warning message to allow users to bring the tabs into the new updated browser.

Thanks. I assumed I needed to set in and out points. I have not done an image sequence in FCP. If I have a 10 second image and a 2 second transition, but then change the duration of the transition to say 4 seconds then FCP will let me alter the transition duration?
With regards to movie clips, what happens with setting global in and out points? How would I do that?

Communicate large number of parameters and variables between Verstand and Labview Model

We have a dyno setup with a PXI-E chassis running Veristand 2014 and Inertia 2014. In order to enhance capabilities and timing of Veristand, I would like to use Labview models to perform tasks not possible by Veristand and Inertia. An example of this is to determine the maximum of a large number of thermocouples. Veristand has a compare funtion, but it compares only two values at a time. This makes for some lengthy and inflexible programming. Labview, on the other hand, has a function which aloows one to get the maximum of elements in an array in a single step. To use Labview I need to "send" the 50 or so thermocouples to the Labview model. In addition to the variables which need to be communicated between Veristand and Labview, I also need to present Labview with the threshold and confguration parameters. From the forums and user manuaIs understand that one has to use the connector pane in Labview and mapping in Veristand System Explorer to expose the inports and outports. The problem is that the Labview connector pane is limited to 27 I/O. How do I overcome that limitation?
BTW. I am fairly new to Labview and Versitand.

Thank you for the help. I created a simple test model and now understand how I can use clusters for a large number of variables. Regarding the mapping process: Can one map a folder of user channels to a cluster (one-step mapping)? Alternatively, I understand one can import a mapping (text) file in System Explorer. Is this import partial or does it replace all the mapping? The reason I am asking is that, if it is partial, then I can have separate mapping files for different configurations and my final mapping can be a combination of imported mapping files.

Thank you for the hint on using a Custom Device. I understand that the Custom Device will be much more powerful and can be more generic. The problem at this stage is that my limitations in programming in Labview is far gretater than Labview models' limitations in Veristand. I'll definitely consider the Custom Device route once I am more provicient with LabView. Hopefully I'll be able to re-use some of the VI's I created for the LabView models.

Loading a large number of strings into memory quickly

Hello,
I'm working on an iPhone application where I need to load a large number of strings into memory. Currently I'm simply reading from a file where each string is stored in plain text on a single line. I read the file contents into a string using stringWithContentsOfFile and then I create an NSSet object using NSSet setWithArray:[string componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]];
This works like a charm but takes around 8 seconds to load on the iPhone. I'm looking for ways to speed this up. I've already tried a few things which weren't any faster:
1) I used [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:myList toFile:appFile]; to store the NSSet data structure. Then instead of reading the text file storage. I read this file using [NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:appFile]; This was actually very slow and created a strings file that was about 2x the size of the original plain text.
2) Instead of using an NSSet, I used and NSDictionary and used writeToFile and dictionaryWithContentsOfFile. This was also no faster.
3) Finally I tried using the NSDictionary to write to a binary file format using NSPropertyListSerialization. This was also not any faster.
I've been thinking about using SQLite instead of the flat file read, but I haven't had a chance to prototype that out to see if it would be faster. It's important that I can do fast searches for specific strings, which is why I originally used a set.
Does any one else have any ideas how to load this into memory faster? If all else fails, I'm simply going to load the strings into memory using a separate thread on application launch so I don't prevent the user from getting to the main menu for 8 seconds.

I'd need to know more about what you're doing, but from what you're describing I think you should try to change your algorithm.
For example: Instead of distributing one flat file, split your list of strings into 256 files, based on the first two hex digits of their MD5 hashes*. (Two digits might not be enough--you might need three or four. You may also want to use folders, especially if you need more than two digits.) When testing if a string exists, first calculate its MD5 hash and extract the necessary number of digits, then load that file into memory and scan its list. (You can cache these lists in memory so that you only have to load each file once--just make sure that a didReceiveMemoryWarning message will empty those caches.)
Properly configured, SQLite may be faster than the eight second load time you talk about, especially if you ensure it indexes the column you store the strings in. But it's probably overkill for this application.
\* A hash is a numeric code calculated from a string; on average, changing a single bit anywhere in the string should change half the bits in the hash, so even very similar strings should generate very different hashes. I suggest using MD5 instead of -\[NSString hash\] because the hash method is not guaranteed to return the same results on Mac OS and iPhone OS, or on different releases of either OS. You could also use a different algorithm, like a CRC; these are faster but I'm not as familiar with them. Internal Error 500 started appearing even after setting a large number for postParametersLimit

I adopted a CF 9 web-application and we're receiving the Internal 500 Error on a submit from a form that has line items for a RMA.
The server originally only had Cumulative Hot Fix 1 on it and I thought if I installed Cumulative Hot Fix 4, I would be able to adjust the postParametersLimit variable in the neo-runtime.xml. So, I tried doing this, and I've tried setting the number to an extremely large number (last try was 40000), and I'm still getting this error. I've tried putting a <cfabort> on the first line on the cfm file that is being called, but I'm still getting the 500 error.
As I mentioned, it's a RMA form and if the RMA has a few lines say up to 20 or 25 it will work.
I've tried increasing the following all at the same time:
postParameterSize to 1000 MB
Max size of post data 1000MB
Request throttle Memory 768MB
Maximum JVM Heap Size - 1024 MB
Enable HTTP Status Codes - unchecked
Here's some extra backgroun on this situation. This is all that happened before I got the server:
The CF Server is installed as a virtual machin and was originally part of a domain that was exposed to the internet and the internal network. The CF Admin was exposed to the internet.
AT THIS TIME THE RMA FORM WORKED PROPERLY, EVEN WITH LARGE NUMBER OF LINE ITEMS.
The CF Server was hacked, so they did the following:
They took a snapshot of the CF Server
Unjoined it from the domain and put it in the DMZ.
The server can no longer connect to the internet outbound, inbound connections are allowed through SSL
Installed cumulative hot fix 1 and hot fix APSB13-13
Changed the Default port for SQL on the SQL Server.
This is when the RMA form stopped working and I inherited the server. Yeah!
Any ideas on what i can try next or why this would have suddenly stopped working after making the above changes on the server.

Start from the beginning. Return to the default values, and see what happens. To do so, proceed as follows.
Temporarily shut ColdFusion down. Create a back-up of the file neo-runtime.xml, just in case.
Now, open the file in a text editor and revert postParametersLimit and postSizeLimit to their respective default values, namely,
<var name='postParametersLimit'><number>100.0</number></var>
<var name='postSizeLimit'><number>100.0</number></var>
That is, 100 parameters and 100 MB, respectively. (Note that there is no postParameterSize! If you had included that element in the XML, remove it.)
Restart ColdFusion. Test and tell.
