Texting from Mail

I have no problem sending an email / text message from Mail to my iPhone at [email protected] . But, I can't reply to it. The address from Mail is a set of numbers and replying to it from iPhone SMS comes back saying something to the effect that it's a non re-pliable address. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hope that makes sense.

TouringComet,
Sorry for the late reply. I've been using iChat to send text messages to the iPhone and it does everything I need it to do, as far as sending and receiving. So I don't bother will emailing to iPhone from Mail at this point. I was able to do just as you suggested when I had Cingular. But, as I said, now that I'm using iChat from my Desktop to the the iPhone, it works great so I'll stick to that method. Thanks for the feedback.

  • Batch removing text from mails in folder

    Hi
    I have a folder in Mail in which I'm collecting mails from a mailing list that have attached photos. I was wondering whether anyone knows of an automated way of either removing all the text from those mails, just leaving the photos, or, better still, extracting all the photos in the mailbox to put in a normal folder.
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks David. That was exactly what I wanted to do, and so simple and so obvious. I knew I posted the question in the Mail folder for a reason.

  • Applescript get text from mail message

    Hi,
    I've got a nested script that ideally would work with a multiple selection of emails. Most of the script does but I've recently found the need to add the sender's delivery address to the outgoing message. I've found a way to insert the clipboard but that leaves me only being able to send out one message at a time and I have to copy the address for each message to the clipboard first. I made a script to do that bit once I'd selected the text but this only works from Applescript Editor and not Quicksilver which is what I normally use.
    So, what I'm hoping is someone would be able to help me with the a, select the right bit of text between Delivery address: and Instructions to merchant: of each message and have that work with Quicksilver and b, tell me why the following script only partially works from Quicksilver, i.e. the top bit, copy to clipboard, doesn't work.

    Shoot! I wrote this huge reply and then quit Safari by accident. I'm too tired to type it all over again (I should install a keylogger).
    Anyway, check out the screen shot of my workflow. the AppleScript section is where it xfers the URL from a text editor (BBEdit) to Safari. It's pretty dirty but it works.

  • Can't Drag Text from Terminal Window to Mail

    I can drag and drop text from Mail to the Terminal window but not the other way around. I can drag text from Terminal to Word but not Mail. Is there a setting I have wrong somewhere?

    Do we know if this is in the plasn for 10.5? It just seems like one Apple app to another Apple app should be abel to drag and drop text. It does work from Mail to Terminal... I can always copy and paste the text but it just gnaws away at me I guess.

  • Drag and drop notes from mail onto an ical date

    I've had some trouble dragging and dropping notes onto an ical date. It shows up as some lengthy message, probably its address on the hard drive, and when I open it, I can't make changes to it. Where can I make a suggestion to apple on how to improve the synchonicity of these 2 apps? Ideally, I'd like to just drag and drop a note, such as a to do list, onto an ical date, and be able to make changes to it there. Or, am I mistaken? Are the notes and to dos actually saved on a mac server, not on my computer somewhere?
    Thanks!
    Rod

    The "lengthy message" is simply the message ID in Mail. If you drag the message to iCal, it will simply set up a link back to that message.
    If you drag text from Mail, you will get a new event with all that text as the event title.
    I suspect what you want can be achieved by creating an event, naming it and setting its time etc then opening the edit popup and dragging your text or email message onto the notes field at the foot of that popup.

  • Default page size settings in TEXT FILES SAVED FROM MAIL

    I regularly save emails as rtf files (either with or without attachments) and sometimes return to print them with TextEdit.
    I'm in Ireland, where our standard paper size is as most European countries, i.e. A4.
    My 'Default Paper Size in Page Setup' is set in the Print & Fax pane in *System Preferences* as A4.
    If I select 'Page Setup...' in Mail to print direct from the Application, it defaults as you'd expect to A4.
    If I make a fresh text file with TextEdit, it also defaults to A4.
    But if I 'Save As...' from Mail and then open the resulting file in TextEdit (or Word, for example) I find it has been saved with a US Letter Page Setup. Can I change this setting? If so, where?

    I think I see where the confusion is.
    I'm not talking about file attachments (the 'Save Attachments...' function in the File menu). What I'm talking about is the saving of the email as an rtf file (the 'Save As...' function). When you select 'Save As...' there's a further pull-down menu for format that allows you to save it as one of 3 options: Rich Text Format, Plain Text OR Raw Message Source. I want to save it as Rich Text which preserves fonts, bold type etc.
    Mail clearly can create such files (I have several GB of saved emails that says so!) - what I want to figure out is if there's a way to control the way it sets the page size in those files as it does so.

  • Copy and paste text from Word for Mac to Mail exasperating!

    I'm so exasperated!! I would be grateful for some help.  I have a carefully worded template letter in Word for Mac.  I copied and pasted it into Mail and loads of extra lines are put in that I cannot delete! So I painstakingly copy and paste each line.  I still have to faff about deleting extra lines that magically appear, then press shift+enter to go to next line without having a line space.  It has messed up font size as well.  Surely it should be straightforward to copy and paste simple text from one program to another!  Is there something I should know or do I just have to type everything out afresh each time - ridiculous in this so called easy technology that saves work ha ha.

    The supported elements are defined in the XFA spec

  • I receive a text from someone but it has an e-mail address at top of message. When I reply and send , it gets returned. Why? and how was original message sent?

    I have downloaded I-Cloud and the new ios program. Where do my text go through now if they don't show up on my bill in the data usage section? When I get a text from friends sometime their e-mail address shows at the top of the message instead of their name like it use to. Then when I reply it gets returned. They tell me they are sending it through the normal text like they use to.

    You are probably right - I don't have my iPad with me and was confusing myself.  But on the iPad it is receive at email addresses only.
    Sending to the phone number will mean ONLY your iPhone gets the message.  If you want it to go to ALL devices, then you should have them send to the email address associated with the AppleID you used to set up iMessage originally.  Also set that email address up as your caller id on the iPhone so as you send out messages, people will reply to that and both your devices should get them.
    Although Apple's notes indicate you should be able to do it - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
    what if you just type in a 10-digit phone number on the iPad instead of an email?
    (I originally did all this with iOS 5.0, and I know then the number did not work on an iPad, but maybe with iOS 5 updates, it does now?)

  • Fetch unread RSS items from mail, set them to read, save the text to a file

    This is what I want to do, and needless to say I am having a little trouble.
    I wish to take the unread mail RSS items, set them to read, and then save the TEXT of the articles (not the title, time, or author) to a TextEdit file in my Documents folder.
    So far I have Get Feeds From Mail > Filter Articles > Get Text from Articles > New Text File
    This is all fine and dandy, but how do I just get the TEXT and not all of the crap that comes with it?
    Thanks!

    NOw I had manage to clear out the error, but now the problem is when I click on the 'save' button, this function clear out the entire text file for me !!!
    The code are as below:
           if(e.getSource()== vButtons[0])
              try{
               String str;
               String Ky = tArea.getText();
               BufferedWriter buffWrite=null;

                        buffWrite.write(Ky);
                    buffWrite.flush();
                        buffWrite.close();
                    in1.close();
              catch (IOException ex) {
              ex.printStackTrace();
            if(e.getSource()== vButtons[1])
                  new panel();
                  dispose();
             if(e.getSource()== vButtons[2])
                System.exit(0);
        }     Please tell me how to save the TextArea to the text file, THANKS !!!

  • I have received text messages from mailer-daemon. Do not use my 4S for email. Is it a virus?

    No

  • Why am I seeing texts from e-mail addresses?

    When I send a text message to some contacts in my address book I get the response from their e-mail address. It messes up the way my texts are organized. The outgoing text is to "John Doe", but when I get a response it comes in from as a separate conversation chain from "[email protected]".
    How can I fix this? I don't want to see texts from e-mails. I want to see the person's name.

    Adding their e-mail address to their contact info only partially fixes the problem.  The text messages from them show up from their name now, but it still shows as two different conversation chains... Now I just have two "John Doe's" that I can send text messages to... one with John Doe's phone number and one with John Doe's e-mail... if I send it to the phone number I still get a response back in a separate conversation from the e-mail.
    One of the people i am having problems with this from is my husband. I will try to change his phone settings and see if that fixes it.

  • How can cocoa app get attachment in Drag & Drop email(s) from Mail?

    HI all,
    I would like to drag and drop one or more emails from Apple's Mail application to a cocoa application and have the cocoa application find the path to the attachments in those emails. If I drag & drop a message from Mail to Text Edit, it creates a link with the message subject. If I hold the pointer over the link in Text Edit, it shows the contents of the link, which has the form:
    message:%[email protected]%3E
    If I click that link, it opens a new Mail window with the message. None of that is the message number as shown in Mail's viewer window.
    I've also looked at what Pasteboard Peeker shows given a Drag & Drop from Mail. The above link data is from the public.url pasteboard type. Some of the others look interesting, but Pasteboard Peeker truncates the data read from the pasteboard, and the pasteboard types are probably nothing that we "supposed" to have access to since they have names like "Someone's super-secret pasteboard type". Any other ideas?

    Thanks, a brody.
    That tip takes me further down the field. And, I am able to do stuff like indent and change font color of my comments which is very helpful.
    However, the big disappointment is that by dragging the original message to the Draft mailbox and then back to the original one after the edits is that it removes the original sender's name and puts mine in along with changing the heading info on date and time. That is, it creates a new message, rather than allowing me to modify the original one to suit my needs.
    All the same, this was a very helpful tip. Thanks again.
    Anyone know of a plugin?..............or two?....

  • How can I have text from multiple fields on one layer, copy to one field on another layer?

    A little help please as it's been years since I've done any coding of any sort.
    So I have a 4 page document with various field types.  I have a document script that gets "TodaysDate" that works perfectly and a few other scripts as well.
    So what I'm trying to do is find a work around for the following:
    I have 3 fields - SURNAME, FIRSTNAME & dob.
    And I want what is typed into these fields to populate into 1 field.  And according to this tutorial (http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript) it's not exactly possible.  At least I think that's what it says.
    However I'm hoping that maybe I could have a Submit button at the end of that document that when clicked would copy the text from those 3 fields (that I would have on 1 layer) into 1 field on a 2nd layer.  Is that even possible??
    I'd also like to have the document Print, Save (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the file name), Email (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the subject line) and Export to a specific Excel spreadsheet.
    I don't want much do I?
    I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows PC but also have access to Acrobat 8 Professional.  And I'm going to want the form to run in Acrobat Reader X.
    So far I have for the 3 fields into 1 on another layer:
    function buttonClick(){
    if(buttonClick==false)
    event.value=this.getField("SURNAME"+"-"+"FIRSTNAME"+"-"+"dob").valueAsString;
    But I have no idea how to call the event.value from 1 layer to another or if any of that code above would even work at all.
    I have a script that I believe will work perfectly for the Save and Email function:
    Using the “doc.submitForm()” function
    // This is the form return e-mail. Its hardcoded
    // so that the form is always returned to the same address
    // Change address on your form
    var cToAddr = "[email protected]";
    // First, get the client CC e-mail address
    var cCCAddr = this.getField("ClientEmail").value;
    // Now get the beneficiary e-mail only if it is filled out
    var cBenAddr = this.getField("BennyEmail").value;
    if(cBenAddr != "") cCCAddr += ";" + cBenAddr;
    // Set the subject and body text for the e-mail message
    var cSubLine = "Form X-1 returned from client"; var cBody = "Thank you for submitting your form.\n" + "Save the mail attachment for your own records";
    //** Send the form data as an XML attachment on an e-mail
    // Build the e-mail URL
    var cEmailURL = "mailto:[email protected]?cc=" + cCCAddr + "&subject=" + cSubLine + "&body=" + cBody;
    this.submitForm({
                cURL: cEmailURL,
                cSubmitAs:"XML",
                cCharSet:"utf-8"
    I'll work out the Export to Excel thing later as I've seen many tutorials on that.  But can I do the 3 fields to 1 thing at all?
    Please Help!!!

    Sorry Gilad.  I hope I'm not getting on your nerves (too much) but as I said it's been a while since I did any formal code. And I'm trying to do this code for a work document but I'm doing it in amongst so many other things I do for my job that it's difficult to get the time to concentrate for longer than 5 mins.
    I didn't get a chance to try that code until just now.  I guess I asked again as I thought (from what I'd read) that it wouldn't be that simple.
    So I've added that code and I get no errors.  But it doesn't appear to be doing anything either.  I've added the code like this in the Custom calculation script of a separate field I've called FileName.  And on the Button i'm using I've added:  buttonClick()
    function buttonClick(){
    if(buttonClick==false)
              event.value=this.getField("SURNAME").valueAsString + "-" + this.getField("FIRSTNAME").valueAsString + "-" + this.getField("dob").valueAsString;
    So now I'm guessing that becasue i'm not getting an error or a result that I've screwed it up still.  Have I put the code in the correct area?  Have I assigned a the buttonClick() function correctly?

  • Multiple drag emails from Mail to a finder window and for it to name the files as the subject heading

    Hi
    I have been using Mac's now for about 10 years and this is my first problem.
    I have recently moved into an office that use PC's with a Windows server.
    I have set up the network to transfer files and view the windows server and it  works fine.
    I have a problem in that my colleagues on PC need to be able to view my emails which I send and receive using Mail. They therefore need to have logical title names and the date sent and ideally who to or from. I view them and archive them using Mail which is fine for me.
    I understand about the archiving and copying of mailboxes but this gives every email the un-fathomable title name 9944847 etc.
    I can get round the problem by dragging and dropping every email I send and receive individually and it will automatically give it a more logical title of the subject heading however the date is when it was dragged not when sent. This is a pain if I am away or forget to save an email for a day or two and then the date is inconsistent.
    Is there a way to batch copy emails from Mail to a finder window and for it to name the files as the subject heading or to archive the files in a similar way so they retain the detailed information my colleagues require.
    And no I can not get to all change to Mac and I don't really fancy using Outlook, Entourage or Parallels.
    Please help.
    Toby

    Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
    Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
    Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
    Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.
