Texting in Landscape - Screen keeps shutting off
Ever since I updated to 7.1 i am having trouble texting. I normally text in landscape mode becuse my fingers are large, and now the screen keeps turing off everytime my finger goes in front of the front-facing camera. It is as if the phone things I am putting it to my ear, and shuts off the screen. I understand this happens when making a call, but not sure why this now happens when texting? Any one else having this issue?
No idea as you did not mention which model Macbook Pro you have or os.
Does this article apply to your model? MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues . The affected computers were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.

Can you open the PageMaker app ok?
If so, what happens if you then use File > Open? (Not double click) -

When was the last time you vacuumed out/cleared out the dust, lint and dirt for. all of your iMac's vents, ports and slots?
You have to power down your iMac, disconnect everything and unplug your iMac.
Use either a small electronics vacuum or a standard vacuum with hose and crevice tool attachment and slowly and carefully vacuum out all of the various vents, slots and ports around your iMac.
Then, reconnect everything, startup your iMac. Download and install iStat Pro or iStat Menus temperature monitor and report your iMac's new temperatures here.
If this turns out to be a GPU issue, this may solve the issue or it maybe too late and the GPU is damaged or failing and you may have to bring your iMac in to Apple for diagnosis and repair/replacement service. -

Yes, you have to execute the commands in your terminal.
Optionally, you can run them from a script at startup.
Be sure to read the wiki. -
Why does does my MacbookPro screen keeps shutting off when I open it more than halfway?
I Have a very new Mac, and for some reason, the screen goes black when I open it more than halfway. It happens to all the users, and even if it is or isn't charging. The brightening keys also doesn't do anything for it. I don't know if this is connected, but I also have half of the lights on at the dock, it kind of looks like lights on a stage.......
please help if you can. i can't live like this anymore!Anything that is repeatable can be fixed at the genius bar.
You appointment for an evaluation is free at an Apple store, in warranty or out. -
My iMac (2007) keeps shutting off when in Full Screen mode (DVD, iTunes Visualizer, etc.) This only happens when I have an external monitor hooked up HDMI. Help?
Try using another connection such as VGA or DVI to see if the problem repeats itself.

what do i do if my ipod touch keeps turning on, going to the charge screen, then going to the apple screen, then shutting off?
If it is still charging using the adapter, let it stay there for at least 15min, then connect again, if necessary use recovery mode. iOS: Unable to update or restore
If still not luck, and the battery still shows the red charging icon, you might need a new battery. -
Mac Pro keeps shutting off randomly
Hey guys,
My Macbook Pro keeps shutting off randomly. Its been doing it for a few months now and I was finally able to restore it to factory settings to see if that would fix the problem but it hasnt. Sometimes it will shut off every five minutes, other times it will be maybe once an hour. I've noticed that it is more likely to shut off when I'm visiting youtube or watching a video/viewing a site with lots of pictures.
By "shutting off" I mean that the screen goes black and I have to hold down the power button until it completely turns off and then restart it.
When I turn my computer back on it sometimes has a reason for the problem, which I copied and pasted below:

some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros are known to have a defect in their NVIDIA GPUs. Given the symptoms which you’d described, yours might have that defect also. Apple had a gratis servicing program for three years from the MacBook Pro’s date of purchase; they still offer the servicing, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis. I’d recommend that you make an appointment at your nearest Apple store or Apple-authorized service center, to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro, which will confirm whether or not its NVIDIA GPU has the defect. -
My MBA keeps shutting off every 5 minutes. what is happening? I can't do any work done because of it.
Same problem for me, it happened after 3 weeks.
I had to call Apple, althrough they couldn't solve the problem by phone.
Genius bar were full so they sent me to a local store.
Looks like it has something to do with the graphic card. It occured when I plugged my macbook to my iMac for screen the 1st time
11 days later I'm still waiting to get my macbook back. Hope you can get it faster!
Very disapointed with the support quality and product quality. -
My system keeps shutting off unexpectedly after updating it to OS X 10.8.2 (12C60). is there anything that can be done to correct this?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Why does my iphone 3 keep shutting off by itself
my iphone 3 has been shutting off by itself. whenever i use it, a battery appears on the screen showing very little battery life, when it has 100% battery life..when it finally goes back on, a third of the life is gone...doesnt matter whether im texting, online or tallking it shuts off, any suggestions on why it soes this?
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as a new device. Go through each step in succession until your issue is resolved.

Why does my iPad mini keep shutting off every two seconds?
Why does my iPad mini keep shutting off every two seconds?
I doubt that anyone here can answer that question with any validity...
That being said, try to reset the device:
*Device reset*
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally. -
My apps keep shutting off when I am using them
Quit/close all apps completely and restart the iPad. If this helps, make note of the app that you last launched if the iPad crashes again and assume that app is the culprit causing the crashes.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also try rebooting the iPad and see if that helps. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. -
