Texting - Nokia N95

Hi
Just bought Nokia N95 and I can not belive that you can not add any smiley faces in your text :-( - is this true or is it me being silly....

http://www.softwaremarket.nokia.com/?action=productDetails&pID=5457&pmsid=305〈=en
FunSMS software allows users to send SMS with around 50 cool&new smileys, sound effects (kiss, knocking etc),colorful messages, vibrations and other effects. You can also set a password for the application so that no one can read your secret contacts and messages. You can enjoy your SMS chats in complete privacy.
Just download and install the software, allow it to start automatically and to send messages. When the chat screen appears select Send to type your messages, Options>Insert Effects to add smileys or colorful alphabets etc. Now press back until you get to (Enter Message). Now select Send To command and type your own mobile phone number if you want to see how the message looks and sounds before you send it over to anyone!
We assure you, sending SMS will become more fun than ever!!!
With Series 60 phone, make sure you have warning tones on:
Tools - Settings - General - Personalisation - Tones - Warning tones: On.
IMPORTANT:
IN ORDER TO SEND AND RECEIVE MESSAGES AND EFFECTS BOTH MESSAGE SENDER AND RECIPIENT SHOULD HAVE FUNSMS INSTALLED ON THEIR MOBILE PHONE.

  • Nokia N95 send and recieve text problems

I have just bought the Nokia N95 and am not able to send or receive text messages. I can make calls, so I know that the service provider is correct.
I also phoned the help service of my provider who took me through the settings of network selection but it still won’t send or receive messages.
My messages I write go to out box but just display as failed. They also just display the number for the contact and not the name.
I don’t yet have a micro SD card installed so am reliant on the SIM and internal memory. From what I see the memory is not full either.
    Am I missing something?
I’ve done this for settings: Main menu – Tools – Settings – Phone – Network – Operator selection – Options – Change – Manual – then it Searches – I choose anything other than my provider such as O2 or Tmobile and it says not allowed – then I choose my provider which it gives me confirmation of my home provider. I switch off the phone and then back on again so I am on the correct network. Still can’t send or receive any texts.
Has anyone had this happen to them and do you have the solution?
    Many thanks

Your message center is provably not configured correctly. Go to message setting then message center. Ask your provider what is the message center number or get someone who have the same provider as you are & note down the message center & put it in your phone. If the message center is correct, you'll provably have software problem. Backup your phone & format your phone. Codes are in the sticky tread for codes.

  • LoadVars not working on Nokia N95 (US)

    Hi there,
Each time my FL 2.0 standalone app tries to connect to a
remote server, the application quits after I selest the WLAN
connection to use for the connection from the system dialog. Below
is the code in question. Running on the Device Central emulator
works fine. Anyone else run into this issue?
(Note, I've also tried this with Nokia's tutorial app:
    http://www.bysamir.fr/flashlite/nokiadev/Latest_Nokia_Devices.zip
    - same problem)
    Sequence:
    1. Launch SWF as standalone app
    2. Enter text in textField within app
    3. Call loadVars function
    4. System dialog appears asking which WLAN connection to use
    5. Select Access Point (AP) in system dialog
    6. Application quits! ??
NOTE: I can connect to the AP normally using the web browser
on the phone, so I know the connection works.

Using Sony Ericsson k800i with itunes non-drm tracks and they are playing without any problems. Used itunes agent application to sync phone memory card with itunes smart playlist (filter for "purchased"). Great that I can now use purchased itunes tracks on my ipod and phone!
Maybe the N95 only supports aac up to a certain bit rate? Or check the file format (m4a?).

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.

  • Nokia N95 8GB data counter accuracy + T-Mobile (UK...

    Hi.
I have the 10GB per month web 'n' walk max package.
I use the Nokia N95 8GB as a modem for my computer as I do not have a land line.
I reset the Nokia's data counter (uploaded and downloaded totals) on the 1st of each month.
Since T-Mobile changed the service about 3 months ago I receive text warnings when I reach 80% of the fair use policy (i.e. 8GB) and a text if I hit 100% (i.e. 10GB). If I hit 10GB I am told that I will still be able to surf but not download at peak times.
There seems to be a big difference between what T-Mobile claim I have used and what the phone's counter shows. This month, for example, I have received the 80% warning but my phone only shows a total (up & down) of 6.3GB, 1.7GB difference.... quite large I feel! Last month I received a text telling me i had hit 100% but my phone only counted 8GB total.
When I contacted tech support they checked the system and came up with different figures. The 1st system which I believe is the same one customers can access by logging into t-mobile.co.uk and downloading the unbilled data usage figures gave about 8.7GB total. This system until very recently used to crash if you attempted to download the internet usage and had used a few gigs of data... useful. The support person then checked a second system which gave a total of 9GB. However these two different systems are not the ones that generate the warnings and also the cut-off (or rather reduced surfing restriction) texts. So T-Mobile have at least 3 systems.
So I have some obvious issues. T-Mobile have now stated that the data counter in the phone will not be that accurate and will miss some data, implying it is to do with counting compressed data rather than uncompressed. I disagree. The phone counter will surely count all 1s and 0s coming through it regardless of what they are. At this point I made the analogy to my electricity supply... the meter is in my house, that is the device by which I and my provider go by. They do not have a meter at the power station end. They bill me for what comes into my house at my front door and not what is sent out. That is the most accurate method for the customer.
I wonder what Nokia would say if T-Mobile inform customers that their hardware can not add up?
I believe there is a trading standards issue looming here as I do not believe I am getting what I pay for. At best appears to be 90% use. Whilst it is true they do not cut me off entirely if I exceed the 10GB, they are not letting me even reach that point. I seems similar to the current issues surrounding quoted broadband maximum speeds and actual obtainable speeds.
So has anyone had similar problems and disagreements about the fair use policy? Does anyone have any information / ideas about the Nokia data counter accuracy?
I am on the verge of contacting trading standards and any other suitable body about this.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for replying.
If you are right, and as you say "I'm guessing", your butcher's analogy seems a good one. I know that the full data packet is not just the actual data but has the header attached (which I think can be up to 60 bytes?) but assumed that only the size of the contents would be counted not the wrapping. I wonder if this is what is actually going on. It would seem extremely unfair if it is especially as it can make a good gigaybte or more difference.
T-Mobile do not provide a reliable method to keep an eye on what is being used so what chance do I have? I still come back to my electricity supply analogy which I would say is similar to yours. My electricity supplier doesn't charge me for any electrical losses that occur between my front door and the power station (well not obviously anyway).
T-Mobile don't provide any software if you use the phone as a modem (unlike their web 'n' walk software if you use their USB dongle) and suggest you find software on the net to monitor your usage. However all the software I have tried seems to have limitations as to what type of data it can and can't monitor so is less than accurate and all have crashed at times and lost the running totals. The only accurate tool in my hands seems to be the phone itself.
Surely the customers shouldn't have to worry about transmission specifics, without those the net wouldn't work at all so how can they be charged for? Customers I guess would only want to pay for the actual data they are using. If I download a 1MB file I only want to pay for 1MB. Will the TV license people start charging extra for digital TV as the data is sent in packets?
    Hmmph!
    Thanks.

  • Nokia n95 problems

hi, im new on here but i'll post my problem
i have nokia n95 and have had it since last september
iv never had a problem with the phone until 2days ago when my internet wont work! when i click on the world icon it just doesnt go to the web page anymore and stay on the current home page
if i go onto my menu and click on the icon web the same happens, also when i click options and open it just goes back to the page i was on before i clicked the web sign
my other problem which has occured afterwards is deleting messages! when i try to delete message i often now get message saying
    TEXT MESSAGE:
    Memory Ful. Close
Down some applications and try again!
although i have no other applications open
anyone help me please? thank you

    The following might help.
Make a backup of the phone's internal memory on your memory card.
menu > tools > memory > options > back up phone memory
Make sure your battery is fully charged then try a reset to factory defaults by "dialling" *#7370# fron the standby screen.
Restore the data to the phone's memory:
menu > tools > memory > options > restore from card
Don't delete the backup from the card just yet.
If that doesn't work then try doing a soft reset by dialling *#7780# from the standby screen and then restore the data again.
Finally, if that doesn't work, try the hard reset.
Power the phone off. Press and hold down the '3', '*' and green 'call' keys simultaneously and keep them down while powering the phone back on. Only release them once the phone shows signs of life like displaying the Nokia logo or showing the language selection.
    Then restore your data again.
If none of this works for you then you'll have to take your phone into a Nokia Care Point.

  • Sync the Nokia N95 8g

    Hi
Can anyone help me to sync the new Nokia N95 8g to my iMac. I have downloaded and installed the plugin from Nokia and the device can be seen under USB connections but isync does not find it.
    Thanks
    Stransham

It seems that the v10.0.271 build of the N95 8G software incorrectly identifies itself as Nokia N00. This means that iSync doesn't recognize it. You can fix it by edit the file /library/PhonePlugins/NokiaN95_8GB1v1.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist and change the text near the end of the file from <string>Nokia+Nokia N95 8GB</string> to <string>Nokia+Nokia N00</string>
You will need to unpair the device and then use Bluetooth Setup assistance to make it work
It then works... there maybe a new version of the firmware from Nokia that can be dowloaded.
NOTE: you can determine the firmware by entering *#0000# on the main phone screen

  • Nokia N95 Screen Backlight Problem! Please Help Wi...

Its been about 9 month since I purchased Nokia N95. Last night, when I was watching a video, its screen backlight began to flickr. It turned very dim and then restored. It turned again compeletely off, then came to its normal brightness. I tilted the phone in all ways, hto it gently to know whether some wire inside is loose, open and closed the slider. But the screen went on and off itself. I reset my phone by hard formatting (*#7370#) but of no use. The next day, it did the same. After two days, now it is stable. But I fear it might be started again.
I want to know can this problem be due to some moisture inside my phone or is it because of some hardware proble. And please suggest what should I do. My phone is still under warrenty, but the phone is stable for at least a whole day. Should I carry it to warrenter for repair?
Any suggestions in this regard? Please reply with practical experience and not a hypothetical reply.
    I appreciate your cooperation.

  • Who can solve iSync problem with Nokia N95? (I use the Nokia plug already)

    Hello
Since I bought my new cool Mac:, I sync my N95 with iSync and the Nokia N95 plug-in. Thinking at first that is works flawlessly (as other members here seem to think as well) I later found out, that if I make changes to any calendar or "to do" description! on either the N95 or the Mac it syncs, but only up until a certain number of characters. If I exceed this number, the description on the phone will simply be cut off - in the iCal it still fully appears though.
Rather surprising, since when syncing with a PC via the Nokia PC suite there is no such an issue. All my often lengthy descriptions are fully put on the phone. And if I sync back there are no problems either. So I guess it has to do with the iSync protocol or this Nokia N95 iSync plug-in? Any ideas, solutions...? Any help greatly appreciated!

The flex cable is damaged. Some years back when I had a Nokia N95 8GB the flex cable was damaged and for a few days the screen was showing strange colours at the display and eventually the screen became black. I went to a local repair shop and I replaced the flex cable and what I noticed was that the flex cable that it had no proximity sensor on it so I told the technician to remove the proximity sensor on the original one and replace it with the new flex cable. Another thing I discovered was that after fitting the flex cable and returning the cover the front camera was not in its usual position so the technician had to do some modifications to get it back to its normal position and after a few months it was damaged and this time I went to Nokia Care Centre and replaced the flex cable for a small fee and what I noticed was that the flex cable that I previously bought was a fake cable. The one bought from Nokia Care Centre had its proximity sensor and when the cover was returned the camera was in its exact position the same as it was with the original flex cable. What I wanted to say is that please beware of fake flex cables on the market and I suggest that you buy it from an authorised Nokia Dealer.

    Hello All,
It looks like new firmware update is available for Nokia N95 basic model .
Earlier Version of Firmware was : 30.0.015
Now the latest available Firmware was : 31.0.014
When i connected my N95 to PC using PC-Suite, it notified me about this. But when i searched the internet for change log , i found none. Is it right firmware , why Nokia didn't disclose change log, which it used to do it earlier ???
I will wait for 2 more days for official communication from Nokia....

Ok, so no one wants to install this firmware because theyre affraid they loose their freedom?
Somebody should shine a light on this FW, or nokia has
done a lot of work for nothing!

  • Nokia N95 8GB Album Art and Album Folders Issue

I have been hunting for for a resolution for two issues with the N95 8GB Media Player all over the web.
    1. Adding artwork (CD Covers) to audio tracks (or albums) seems to be at best hit and miss. Most of the time it just does not work.
    2. Deleting an album delete all the tracks but deleting the album folder seems almost impossible.
Well this weekend I decided to try to solve this and I think I may have hit upon a solution.
Since so may people have the same problem I thought it worth repeating. I would stress this has not been exhaustively tested but it does work reliably so far.
I am using Nokia Music Manager 2.0. The fix is simply to convert the files to AAC rather than to M4A (which is the default). After this simple change everythig worked find for me. I can add and delete albums from Nokia Music Manager 2.0 (don't forget to refresh on the phone afterwards) AND reliably add Album Artwork.
So here is how I have been working.
    1. Set the conversion format to AAC. I have been using 'Ultra high' quality setting. Options Menu >> Setting >> Conversion Tab.
    2. Next put in a CD, select all the tracks and choose copy to my collection.
    3. While this is going on I find the artwork on the Web. A simple Google Image search with the album title and artists last name / band name seems pretty 100% to get the on the first page. Download image to My Documents / My Pictures.
    4. Once the CD Rip is complete they will all appear in My Collection. I select all the tracks in my collection for the album in question, and then right click on one of them and select Edit.
    5. I then attach the Album Artwork by clicking on the blue folder and choosing it from my, MY Pictures folder.
    6. Finally select Copy to Phone from the File Menu.
This has worked for me so far 100% and I have done 20 or so albums.
    NOTES:
To get Nokia Music Manager 2.0 I uninstalled the version of Nokia Phone Suite that came with my phone and went to
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905I (or seach Google for "nokia phone suite"
I chose the N95 8GB downloaded and installed. At some point shortly after install Phone Suite informed me that there were updates available and Nokia Music Manager 2.0 was one of these.
I was originaly using this and suffered all the problems you guys have. After searching the web and finding no solution I decided to do some experimenting.
    Hope all this helps.
PS If you need to delete all your legacy album folders, this is the fix I found on this same site. You can do this at any time.
    1. Enable the option to be able to see Hidden Files and Folders in your Windows Explorer.
    2. Connect your n95 8gb to your computer and choose data transfer mode.
    3. Go to My COmputer >> Nokia Phone Browser >> Nokia N95 8GB >> Memory Card E:
    3. If you have selected Show Hidden Files and Folders (see 1) you should see a folder called Private.
    4. In the Private folder you need to delete the contednts of three folders
    \private\101FFC31 (mpxv1.mpd and pcv5.mpd)
    \private\101f8857\Cache
    \private\101ffca9
In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
Next time you restart the music player it will rebuild the indexes without the deleted albums folders.
Hope this helps someone. It restored my sanity.

    Album Art
    Basically there are two methods
    Method 1.
You do it on the phone. Load the album art pictures to the memory card. (Must be JPEG NOT BMP)
    Load also the music files.
Open Music application in the phone. Open an album then select Options->Album art then Options-> Add, browse for the picture and select Ok.
    Repeat for each ALBUM
    Method 2.
You do it on the PC.
Get a Tag editing software like Tag&Rename, WINAMP, etc.
Edit the files Metadata to include Album Art picutres (again they should be jpeg and also they should be set as Cover Front).
Transfer the files that have Album Art using File transfer (usb mass storage) don't use MTP or PC Suite as these methods may convert the files and Album Art will be lost.
Or you can continue using your Method

  • Not sure if Micro SD work with Nokia N95

Today I went to tesco, and bought myself a Micro SD 2GB for my new phone Nokia N95.
I'm not sure if it will work or fit in. It does say its suitable for most Nokia phones.
Also will my computer recognise it?

The N95 should have no difficulty with the card, and if the PC has a Micro-SD reader then you should be OK there too. Many PC card readers take standard SD only, but you can get adapters to allow Micro-SD to be used with them, you might even have one provided with the card.
