Texting on iPhone - SureType hack/app?

So as some of you know, the iPhone is finally coming to Canada and I've been holding out and waiting so I don't have to mess with unlocking one. The LG Vu has just been launched on Rogers and raised a couple questions as far as txting goes, I haven't found much info when I googled it...
Is Qwerty the only layout option to text with? Is there a T9 option? Lastly, is it possible with the ability to write new native apps now, that someone could write something that would allow a SureType typing layout like a Blackberry Pearl?
The reason I'm asking is I've had a Pearl for about a year and a half and LOVE the keyboard, but it's inevitable I'll be getting the iPhone. I have fat fingers though and love the SureType layout. I know the Vu has the T9 option and I see the new HTC's are getting SureType, any possibility of adding this to iPhone anytime soon?

This link should answer some of your questions.

I guess anything is possible with 3rd party software as long as it meets Apple's approval.

One of my kids has an iphone 4, the other has an ipod.  Bluetooth is ON for both, but they are not discovering each other.  Are there any suggestions?  (They bought a simple texting app so the ipod could text the iphone.)  Thank you.

The built in BT profiles that iOS has do not include any kind of file sharing. Does the app say that it will text over BT? If so, then the connection would most likely be handled through the app itself. What is the name of this app?

  • IPhone (iOS 7) status bar text is white in video app

The status bar text in the native video app is white, this not visible.
I'm using an iPhone 5S running iOS 7.0.3, the data was backed up from my iPhone 4 which was running iOS 7

After a reset, the next steps in user troubleshooting is restore from backup, and then if necessary, restore as new. You can always make a backup of your device, and then try the restore as new. This deletes everything from the device, but will install the iOS. If it works then, go ahead and restore from your backup. If it breaks again, then it has something to do with the backup.

  • How Do I Wrap Text Like the iOS Camera App?

Hello. I am in yearbook, and I have been challenged with designing the cover of the yearbook, and I have been having a few problems along the way. One of these problems is to wrap text. Specifically, I'm stuck on how I would wrap text like the iOS camera app on the bottom of the screen. The words seem like they are wrap around a 3D object to give it that effect, but I can't really tell. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a big difference between being a casual user than real work or development. I own a iPod its a great MP3 player and a device I can display my pictures on out of my pocket. I'll even Facetime my kids at time to see my grand kids or help fix something.  My wife has a mini iPad for quick internet access and quire music and uses her iPod to entertain our two year old grandson with games.   She uses a Canon 1D mark 4 and I a Cannon 1D mark II.  The only use the iPad and iPod cameras get is Facetime. No iOS apps are use to work on images  they have no value when you have Photoshop. The iPod is better for displaying image then the iPad mini it has a 3:2 aspect ratio display and travels better the the mini iPad which has a 4:3 aspect ratio display.  I also crop image for display on wall mounted HDTV. The iPad is better for casual internet access then the iPod. All our kids have iPhones and they all use computers either Mac or PC for work and internet access.  When you have a Unix or Windows why would you want to touch an iOS device for work or serious internet access.  Apple mobile devices are convenient for casual use and grand kids don't get that dirty finger painting on them as they do using real paint. Nothing of real value is maintained on an iOS device.
Well...there's Photoshop Touch and Photoshop Mix as well as Lightroom Mobile. It could be argued that they're don't exactly mirror their desktop cousins, yes, but they weren't meant to be. They were meant as extensions to the desktop experience.  (e.g., Lightroom Mobile lets one work with the RAW images they have in their Lightroom desktop collections.)
The more powerful Windows tablets can run Photoshop desktop (like Photoshop CC) too.
@bluebocat: Are you looking for text with a perspective? Like it has a vanishing point? As if it was turned in a certain direction in 3D space?

  • HT204053 my 2 sons have iPods and I have them connected to my apple id but everytime I send a text or they download an app, we all get it on all 3 devices.  How do I separate their stuff from mine?

I got my 2 sons ipod touches for christmas and used my apple Id thinking I could have more control over what they download, but what happens is that everytime I do something on my iphone or they do something on thier ipods, we all get it on all 3 devices.  That includes my text messages and the many apps that they download.  How do I separate thier activity and mine while still having the ability to control what they do on thier ipods???

For Messages they will each need their own iCloud accounts. You should also enable Restrictions in Settings > General > Restrictions and disable auto-download on the other devices.

  • Guide: how to extract text from any iOS notes app backup on your Mac

Scenario: you had a sweet notes app like DailyNotes, perhaps one that your girlfriend installed while you weren't looking. So it was on her iTunes account, lets say. Then one day you upgrade to a new iOS version and backup all your data. For whatever reason you erase your iPad, install the new version, and recover back all the apps from the backup. (Maybe you were beta testin g prior to that so you wanted to wipe it clean.) Still your data is gone! Or is it?
"Fortunately" you backed up. However all that this means is that the text you entered into DailyNotes is stored somewhere in your backup, inside of a file named something like
"8f5d7ff4111c9b9e4c8dbb7395efdce9c260e0de-20110814-232318", encoded in a .sqlite database file wrapped inside that data.
Now, if you reinstall the DailyNotes app (or whatever) off of the app store under your own user account, will you get your data back as well? I honestly don't know. But I tried to find out, and I could get no straight answers. Most people said I'd lose my data, and the only way to get back my data would be to restore from the old backup, which of course would erase my current data! So I'd have to backup, then restore from the older backup, then restore from the newer backup again. Does anyone realize how LONG these backups and restores take? FOREVER! I don't have that much time guys. I just need a fast way to access a simple text file. Why does iOS make this such a chore? It's my own content, my own data, which is mine, my copyright, my intellectual property, and the iOS is hiding it from me inside an anonymously-named text file.
    SO HERE'S WHAT YOU DO:
Download mono framework here and install it: (free)
    http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html
(this can be easily uninstalled later, it has an uninstaller app)
Download iPhone Backup Extractor here and extract it in your Downloads directory: (free)
    http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com./free-download/
(this can be easily uninstalled later, just delete the folder)
Download SQLite Database Browser 2.0 b1, and extract it in your Downloads directory: (free)
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitebrowser/
(this can easily be uninstalled later, just delete the app)
You can move the two apps to your Applications directory if you intend to keep them long-term, but you can run them just fine from the Downloads directory which will make them easier to identify and erase after you're done, if you don't plan to keep them around.
Go to Finder and open the iPhone Backup Extractor directory. Resize that window to the side of your screen.
Go to Terminal and set the window where you can see part of it if the previously mentioned Finder window from the last step was floating on top of it.
Type "cd " (yes that's c, d, space) in Terminal then hit command-Tab to switch to Finder.
Drag the folder icon from the title bar of the finder window into the Terminal window that's now in the background. For you newbies, the "title bar" is the VERY topmost edge of the window (the frame of the window) which should have a folder next to the words, "iPhone Backup Extractor" visible in it. You're clicking and dragging THAT folder icon into the terminal window in the background. HIT ALT-TAB AGAIN WHEN DONE.
Now you're back in the Terminal and it should say:
"cd /Users/yourname/Downloads/iphonebackupextractor-latest" after the unix prompt. HIT ENTER.
    Now type:
    mono iPhoneBackupExtractor.exe
This will run the iPhone Backup Extractor app. It takes a few minutes to load because mono is slow (it's emulating Windows basically). Be patient.
NOTE: The Backup Extractor can only see backups stored on your boot drive that are in the users folder of whatever user you're currently logged in as. So if your backup is on an external drive or a CD, etc., just copy it to the desktop.
Once iPhone Backup Extractor loads, you'll see its window where you can select the backup. Select whichever one you want to work with. Then hit Expert mode. Each app that was on your device at the time you made the backup will have a directory shown. It will be named something like:
    com.ramki.dailynotes
Expand the one you want to recover data from by clicking the plus sign next to it. Then expand the Documents directory for it. You'll see a file called something like Daily_Notes.sqlite. Click the dark black box next to this and a checkmark should appear.
Once you've checked the file to recover, click "Extract selected" below and save to your Desktop (or wherever!).
Now quit iPhone Backup Extractor unless you have other data to also extract.
NEXT... OPEN the app SQLite Database Browser 2.0 b1.
Once it loads, open your Daily_Notes.sqlite file (or whatever .sqlite file you extracted, not necessarily Daily_Notes, that's just my example). If you followed my previous steps that file will be on your Desktop.
Once it loads you'll see three buttons at the center of the window near the top called, "Database Structure," "Browse Data," and "Execute SQL." CLICK ON "Browse Data."
Now on the left-hand side of the window there is a pop-up menu with the word "Table: [POP-UP-MENU-IS-HERE] "... CLICK on the pop-up menu. It will actually say the name of one of the database files that's within the SQLite database, something like "ZAPPSTATE" or "ZDAYDATA" or whatever (not "POP-UP-MENU-IS-HERE", that was just text I put as a placeholder since it could be anything really).
Now that you've clicked the pop-up menu, select each item one by one and look at the data that appears in the table.
(Don't worry, you're just working with a COPY of the file, so if you accidentally delete anything it's not a real problem, just delete the .sqlite file and start the steps over from the beginning of this message.)
You should eventually find a table that has the text that you're looking for! Mine was called "ZDAYCONTENT".
WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE DATABASE TABLE, it looks like an Excel spreadsheet. That means you may have to double-click on the database cell to get it to show you the entire contents of that part. (It only shows a truncated text string in each cell, but if you double-click, a new window will open on top of the current window, showing the full text that was in there.) Now you can copy the text out and paste it into another app like Text Edit or MS Word or Pages, etc. You can also export the data in the File Menu > Export to an SQL or CSV file. (CSV is a text file where the data is all there, just separated by commas. This can then be imported into Excel or Numbers or another database or printed, etc., or just opened into Pages or Word or BBEdit etc.)
CAVEATS: Dates will often be shown as a weird number like 3780 or 2863 etc. You may have to figure out on your own what this date means. I honestly have no clue. SQLite Database Browser does not seem to support viewing or exporting PNG and image files.
Other than that good luck. Post any questions here.

  • Is iMessage free if you text between iPhones using AT

Confused on a few things.  I have the iPhone 4 with 3G.  I don't use my phone all that much...use iMessage approx. 3x/week, and I listen to iHeart Radio at home on wifi.  This is my issue:  I got a notice that I was over my data usage and will be billed $15.  My questions are...is iMessage free when you text between iPhones on AT&T?  Does IHeart Radio use data?  I feel that I might have my settings wrong because my sister says she uses iMessage all e time and NEVER goes over her data.   How can I check my data usage so I don't go over again?  Thanks so much for the help!

It would be hard to imagine breaking your data plan with iMessage, unless you are passing some massive attachments.
On the other hand, iHeart radio is like Pandora, I think, and streams the music constantly while running. I wonder what happens if your wi-fi drops for a second while you are running that. Will your phone jump over to the cellular connection to keep the app running? If it does, that could easily explain the data overage.
You might want to play around with disabling cellular data when you know you will be parked under wifi for a while. That way, if wifi does blip on you, you don't start munching on your data plan.

  • Not recieving texts from Iphone users

Just signed up with Verizon and got my new LG G2 but I'm unable to receive or send messages to IPhone users. I've already tried downloading the Verizon messages app and done a factory reset on my phone. Not sure what else to try here. I've never owned an IPhone so the deregister of Imessage does no good. Any Ideas??

Is this your first cell phone ever? If not, were you able to receive texts from iPhone users on your previous cell phone(s)?
Have you inquired with your contacts what color of bubble is around the text messages they are sending you? If it is blue, they are attempting to send it as an iMessage and think your phone is an iPhone. If it is green, they are attempting to send it as a text.
As Snn5 has stated, there is a setting in iMessages which much be turned on to send messages as SMS/MMS if iMessage is unavailable. It is possible that this is not set such that a SMS/MMS can be sent.
Do you not receive texts from ANY iPhones or do messages from some iPhones get thru?

  • Cannot send multiple photos via text on iPhone 6

iPhone 6:  I am trying to send multiple pictures via text message (through the Photo app) to someone who does not have an Apple device, therefore I am sending it as an MMS.  However, I receive an error message stating, "iMessage needs to be enabled to send this message."  This is confusing for two reasons:
    1. I DO have iMessage enabled.
    2. I am not trying to send it via iMessage (as the recipient is a non-Apple user) so why am I being prompted to send it via iMessage?
    How do I fix this?

What happens if you open a message and then copy multiple pictures into it (rather than doing it from the Photo app)?
    Thanks

  • I thought Yosemite would allow iMac to text non-iphone users.

I updated my iMac with Yosemite and everything is working well.  However, I am unable to use the Messages app to text non-iphone users.  According to the Apple page that describes the new Yosemite features it says:
    SMS
More ways to get your message across.
With OS X Yosemite and an iPhone running iOS 8, you can send and receive SMS text messages right from your Mac. So when friends text you — regardless of what phone they have — you can respond from your Mac or your iPhone, whichever is closest.2 All the messages that appear on your iPhone now appear on your Mac, too, so your conversation is up to date on all your devices. You can also start an SMS or iMessage conversation on your Mac by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, Calendar, or Spotlight.
I've tried clicking on the intended recipient's number in my Contacts, and typing the number in manually, but I get the message "Your message could not be sent.      XXXXXXXXXX is not registered with iMessage."   Does anyone have any suggestions?

I followed all of the directions and was able to get FaceTime on my MacBook Pro to make a phone call through my iPhone 5S in close proximity. But, I cannot get Messages on my MacBook Pro to send a SMS text via my iPhone 5S. I cannot believe that it only works with an iPhone 6! That would be a HUGE disappointment!

  • How to auto forward sms texts from iphone to iphone?

I just got the new iphone 5 for work... which is great, but it means that I will be carrying around my personal iphone 4 and the new iphone.  I would like to get this down to just one iphone, so can I auto forward my texts from iphone to iphone?  Is there an app for that... and, if so, what is it?
    Thanks!

Not sure if Google Voice will do that or if one of the TextFree apps will...but you can check those out and see if they meet your needs.

  • CAN I FORWARD MY TEXTS FROM IPHONE TO ANOTHER DEVICE LIKE IPAD2

CAN I FORWARD MY TEXTS FROM IPHONE TO ANOTHER DEVICE LIKE IPAD2 ?????

There is no messaging app on the iPad, so you wouldn't be able to do it natively on the device.  You can take screen caps of the messages on the phone and put those on the iPad if you like, but it would show up in the photos app on the iPad.
