Texting to non iphones

Is anyone stiil having issuers texting to non iphones even after tha last update?

I have an iPhone 4S. I have talked to the Apple store and they told me that after the iOS upgrade, 2% of iPhone 4S were having texting issues to non iPhone. You could receive text but not send them they assured us that after the next revision this would fix this problem. I downloaded and installed the revision yesterday but I am still having the same problem. Texting between iPhones works just fine.

  • Iphone won't send texts to non-iphone users

I woke up this morning and my iphone 4s will no longer send texts to non-iphone users.  I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.  I reset my network settings.  I restarted my phone.  Nothing is working.  I don't know how to fix this.  I can send imessages just fine.

I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.
The ONLY SMS settings is: Settings > Messages > Sends as SMS > ON.  Is that what you mean?
Did you contact your carrier to confirm that SMS is still provisioned in your account?

  • What is the trick to getting Handoff and texting to non-iPhone users to work?

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to Mavericks and for the life of me I can't get Handoff or the ability to text to non-iPhone users to work. These are two of the main reasons why I upgraded.
When I try to text through iMessages to a non-iPhone user it says that I have to register the number. Not sure what that means. I have tried a variety of things from other posts for Handoff but haven't been successful. These involve resetting the network settings on the iPhone, turning on and off iCloud, pairing the iPhone with the Mac (not sure if that is required is it?), turning on and off Bluetooth, ensuring that both devices are on the same network, and turning on and off Handoff.
I am using a late 2012 MacBook Pro and an iPhone 5s.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ed

Not sure where I need to look in Messages for my number. It is in Messages/Preferences/Accounts
Yes. Messages > Preferences > Accounts > select your iMessage account.
Is your iPhone number listed in the You can be reached at section and the Start new conversations from dropdown?
Not sure about the relay setting. How do I go about setting that up?
After I set everything up when I opened Messages it asked if I wanted to relay SMS and sent a verification code to my iPhone that I then had to enter in the prompt on the Mac.

  • Does imessage charge money for texting to non-iphone users?

how about if its receiving an international text from non-iphone users?

You'd have to ask your network provider if there is any charge for receiving text messages. I know in the US some networks used to charge (I don't know if they do anymore), but in Europe you don't get charged to receive SMS.

  • Can't receive SMS texts from non-iPhone users

My phone suddenly stopped letting me receive texts from non iPhone users yesterday. Since then, I have powered my phone on and off, reset the network, and power cycle. My mother has been in the hospital and I have to be here with her all day. I have no time to go to a verizon store. I've only had the phone a week and I'm really disappointed with this. Seeing my mom is in the hospital, I really need this to be working, but I'd don't even know of something else to try.

Ktoole, I can understand how frustrating this could be. How long has this been an issue? Have you ever been able to receive texts from non-iPhone users? Do you have iMessage on or off? Have you tried to restore the phone through iTunes?

  • I cannot text to non-iPhones that are with my same carrier. Neither can I text to a Blackberry with my same carrier. How to do I accomplish texting?

Texting to non-iPhones has been difficult. In fact, it is not possible from my phones. There are family members that I would like to contact on non-iPhones, but on my same calling net work.

I would contact your phone carrier as they handle text messaging.

    Hi,
As I said the Menu Item has disappeared in Messages but you can still get it to send SMS Messages via an AIM Account to a "Buddy" that is the phone number with a leading + 1 for the country code (although it was never  rolled out world wide).

The Menu items in the Buddies menu (This is from iChat 5) do not appear unless the computer ius set to be in the United States.
They don't appear at All in Messages (whether the computer is set or not.)
This Info card to show it has numbers

I see you have eventually got there with willar's post.

  • IPhone sends as iMessage first then sms text to non iPhone

Hi. My GF had an iPhone for a week in November and iMessage was activated. She didn’t get on with the iPhone so gave it back. Before doing so we made sure we turned off iMessage in the phone settings and on her Apple ID account and deleted her number out of it etc. However, still to this day when I send her a message from my iPhone to her non iPhone it sends as iMessage then immediately sends as text afterwards. It doesn’t always do this, maybe once or twice in the day and all other times it just sends as text straight away as it should do. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!

I don't believe there are any other settlings you could change. You may need to check with your cellular provider to be certain the SMS option is properly provisioned on your account.

  • Unable to send texts to none iPhone users with my iPhone 6

I am unable to send or recieve text messages from non iphone contacts of mine. I've looked under settings and my SMS option is on.

SMS messages are sent through AT&T, since you have SMS enabled check another setting.
    Settings>iMessages>Send & receive
Make sure your phone number is listed, not just your Apple ID.
If your phone number is listed, try doing this:
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
(This would delete any saved Wi-Fi passwords but no other data)
If that doesn't work, you'll need to contact AT&T

  • No texts from non-iphone users

I can't receive text messages from non-iphone users, but they can receive my messages.  I can get their phone calls.  Can anyone help me out?  This started later today.

Go to Settings>Messages and then make sure that Send as SMS, AND MMS Messaging is on. Some times it helps to have cellular data on as well. If this doesn't work, and it most likely is is a service problem. Contact them Immedality to get this fixed.

    Hi Rhys1998,
Happy New Year!  If you are not able to send SMS messages to a non-Apple phone, try these troubleshooting steps:
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204065
    Check your device settings
Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network.
Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage, Send as SMS, or MMS Messaging is turned on (whichever method you're trying to use). Learn about the different types of messages you can send.
    Check the recipient's contact info
Make sure that you're using the right phone number or email address.
Go to Settings > Messages > Blocked and make sure that they're not on your block list.
Restart your device and check for updates
    Restart your device.
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Check the system status for iMessage
Go to the Apple Services System Status page and check iMessage.Turn iMessage off and back on
Go to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off, then back on.Sign out and back in to iMessage and FaceTime
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
On your iPhone first, sign back in to iMessage and Facetime.
Sign back in to iMessage and Facetime on your other devices.
    Reset your network settings
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.Back up and restore your device
Use iTunes or iCloud to back up your content, then restore your device.
Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201287
What's the difference between SMS/MMS and iMessage?
SMS/MMS lets you send text messages and photos to other cellular phones or devices. iMessage lets you send text messages and photos to another iOS device over Wi-Fi, without worrying about text-messaging charges (cellular data charges may apply).
What do I need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage?
Here's what you need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage:
SMS/MMS: A text-messaging plan. Contact your carrier for more information.
iMessage: An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later.
Can’t get text messages from an iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5185
You can't send SMS or text messages to a non-Apple phone (such as an Android, Windows, or BlackBerry phone), because the messages are sent as iMessage
This can happen if you used iMessage on your iPhone and then transferred your SIM card or phone number to a non-Apple phone. If you didn't turn off or deactivate iMessage before switching to a non-Apple phone, other iOS devices will still try to use iMessage to send text messages to your phone number. Follow the appropriate steps below to resolve the issue. Likewise, if you can't send someone a text who used to have an iPhone, having them follow these steps should resolve the issue.
If you still have your iPhone
Put the SIM card you transferred from your iPhone back into your iPhone.
Make sure that you're connected to a cellular data network (such as 3G or LTE).
Tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
If you don't have your iPhone or if you can't turn off iMessage
Use the deregister iMessage webpage. For more information, see Deregister iMessage: Frequently Asked Questions. These steps won't deregister your phone number with iMessage
Logging in to My Support Profile and changing your password or removing your phone number
    Texting STOP to 48369
    Resetting your network settings
    Changing your Apple ID password

  • Can't send MMS or group text to non-iPhones.

Previously i had no problems with this until a couple of weeks ago.
There wasn't some event that i am aware of that caused an onset of this.
Now I can only send pictures or group messages to other iPhones.
I have cellular data,  MMS and SMS settings on.
Have tried sending picture text and group messages with and without wifi on (as well as switching the others on/off one at a time & testing).
    Tried with iMessage on/off.
Tried every combo of Send & Receive phone/email (& off).
    Reset network settings.
Wiped phone clean and restored with iCloud backup.
    Using AT&T.
    Still nothing.

Can send text-only messages to non-iPhones.
    Any other ideas out there?
