Texts going to wrong phone

My son and I both have iPhones on my AT&T account. I also have an iPhone for work. (Yes, we're slightly addicted in this house). When my son sends texts to certain people, they show up (as well as the replies) on both of my phones. The same thing happens when one friend of mine texts me - he receives our entire conversations on his phone. Strangely, this doesn't happen with all our contacts - just a few.
Then last night, I upgraded to the new OS and now he's getting NONE of the texts I send to him.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem, my husband was getting all my messages, I went to:
General Settings
Then down to Messages(green)
Then checked "Send & Receive" option, it shows you how many addresses/phones "you can be reached by iMessage"
Choose your phone and your email only. Your son will have to do the same in his phone.

Another iphone 5 received text messages meant for my phone and one other but only happened for the first time at the weekend when in close proximity. How do I stop this happening? Didn't happen with all texts just from one source.

I had the same problem, after upgrading to IOS 8.x
Look under Settings > iCloud and see if have "Set Up Family Sharing . . ." turned on.
I did, thinking it was for sing iCloud backups. Instead, my texts got shared.
Not all the texts and not all the time, but often enough to become a nuisance.
I turned off Family Sharing and I also noticed that I had multiple phone numbers and email address assocatiated with my account.
This is because I pay for all the apps on several phones in the family.
I had to remove all those extra phone numbers and emails that were not associated with each phone.
Unfortunately, the problem continues, although not as often.

This shouldn't be so hard to understand or fix, but that upgrade was the most confusing I have ever gone through.

We have 5 iPhones in our family account. Recently, person 1 will send a text to person 2, but the message will show up on person 3's phone. Oddly, person 3's text display show the message as if person 3 sent it! The messages often go to several of the phones, so it's impossible to tell (without asking) who actually sent the message. Any ideas?

I am having the same issue. My wife & I both have iphone 4. We both use the same iTunes Apple ID. After we both updated to IOS 5.1, iMessage conversations that she has started showing up on my phone. They don't arrive with an alert like a new message, they just show up. Also, iMessages that I get from her appear as if they came from me, which gets confusing. I think this has something to do with the new "feature" that your iMessage conversations appear across devices, like if you have an iPhone and an iPad. I already checked, and my phone is set to receive iMessages from my number and my email. Her phone is set to receive iMessages from her number and her email.

Does Verizon ever act on these blog messages? I called Verizon yesterday to report that my texts are going to the wrong people. They said that had never happened and referred me to tech support who could not figure it out. No solution provided. I use texts for personal and business. This is an extreme compromise with privacy laws and personal privacy as well. What can be done?

A rep may reply but for real tech support you are better off going through Verizon directly. Have you tried doing an Internet search on your issue to see if others are experiencing it and have any solutions? It is an odd thing so I'm not aware of it being a normal bug with Verizon in general. You may have a hardware issue with your phone where it's not recognizing the correct numbers you are texting. Does this occur if you manually input the phone number you're texting versus texting a number in your address book? Have you gone through your contacts and made sure the numbers are still correct in there? If someone texts you first and you reply do they receive the reply or is it still going to the wrong number?

Incoming texts going to old phone instead of new one.

I upgraded from iphone 4 to Nokia Lumia 928. I can call out, receive calls, and send texts on the Nokia, but all incoming text messages are still sent to my iphone. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's not real handy having to carry two phones around.

I definitely don't want you to have to carry around multiple devices! As Suzy Q mentioned it seems as though your iMessage may still be activated for your phone number. I have been experiencing this issue for the last few weeks and it is extremely annoying. I've called Verizon 7 times and have gotten nothing but the run around. What's even more annoying is hearing them say there will be a software coming out to correct the problem but they don't know when. I'm very disappointed in Verizon. I've been with them for many years. They were my first and only carrier. I will definitely not be taking this lying down. I'm going to get a resolution, and if that means leaving Verizon, then so be it. And if anyone from Verizon is reading this, PLEASE DO NOT offer up another apology. I don't want another apology, I want this issue to be corrected, NOW!!

Try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at". If that doesn't work, you'll have to tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different Apple ID for iMessage.

Why is the text going over the image when the text layer is below the image layer?? It is so frustrating.

Are you sending the texts to his phone number or his Apple ID? It might be that the texts originated from your phone is to his Apple ID and not his phone number and his Apple ID was not registered for the Message app on his phone. So any texts to his Apple ID is not received by his phone.
Can you receive his texts? If yes, then reply back from what he send you and see if he can receive the texts.

Try the following procedure:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

ios 8, seems to keep deleted texts on the phone, if I delete a text message it will be removed from the message app but the person who I texted and the timestamp of the message still stays. this ends up showing the person in my messages with a timestamp for a message that doesn't exist.

Well you can try this, but I'm not sure it's going to work if this is an entirely new ID.
Go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Anyone ever experienced this problem and know how to fix it?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Why aren't Viber texts going to and coming from my contacts on iPhone 4S?

i sometimes receive Viber text messages while my phone is in power saving mode. A notification will appear on the locked screen; however, whe unlock the screen and visit the Viber app, the new text message does not appear. Sometimes the screen within the Viber app just goes black too. Anyone have any suggestions or help?

5 or 6 days I ago I discovered that I can't receive text messages frfom certain phones which I could do previously on my iPhone 4s, why?

5 or 6 days ago all of a sudden I could not get text messages from certain phones to my iPhone 4s, however they were going to my iPad which AT%T is the provider??? Has anyone experienced this problem?

I know receiving your text messages are important, airboss98. From wehat you've described, the people sending the messages are not sending as text but as iMessages. Are those certain messages being send from other Apple devices? If you have the same Apple ID logged into your iPad as what was active on your iPhone 4s, the iMessages will still be delivered to the remaining device. Did you change to a non-Apple device? If so, you can de-enroll your phone number from Apple's servers by texting the word STOP to 48369. It may take up to 48 hours for them to remove the number, but then you should begin receiving the messages again.
