TG797n v3: Original owner's credentials re-inserts after factory reset?

I have a TG797n v3 that a relative has given me that came with their ADSL plan/service. I have noticed that even after a factory reset to the device, upon successfully connecting the device to the internet with a non-Telstra service it disconnects and when I check the logon details it reprograms the original Telstra Bigpond user credentials. Do Telstra modems get registered against their original owner or has somehow "phones home"? If this is the case, is it possible to de-register the modem/router so that it has blank/stock details? It only seems to happen once.- Factory reset.- Program with non-Telstra ADSL cred/connection.-- Connects to internet, a few minutes later the internet drops out.- Check TG797n v3 and it has the original owner's Bigpond credentials.- Re-enter non-Telstra ADSL cred/connection- Connects to the internet successfully. If I do a factory reset the above happens again.

Hello, you would be best to ring Telstra technical support and ask them if that modem has specific Telstra software .....which I believe it would. RegardsProfessor PhoneI'm not a Telstra employee.  I have been a mobile subscriber since 1963.If my advice has been helpful, a Kudo  "tick"    would be most appreciated. If my advice has solved your problem, please also mark it as a Solution

  • Can't update software on macbook without original owner's password?

I recently purchased a used macbook pro and I have been getting alerts to update the software. I would need the original owner's Apple ID password, which I do not have access to, to complete the update. My macbook is currently running OS X 10.9.4. Is there any way I can reset this macbook and download the software with my apple ID?

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • I have bought an iMAC second hand but when updates to purchased (not by me) Apps I cannot download the updates as it is asking for the original owners password. How can I amend this or could I delete the Apps and download new ones in place under my email

If the machine was upgraded to Lion 10.7.x by the original owner then you bought an illegal license of Lion and also of any other applications that the seller  said came pre-installed, this assumes the seller did not include original install media. In that case you need to contact the seller for the original install DVDs that came with the machine re-install up to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then purchase Mountain Lion ($20) and the applications you want or need. If the seller cannot come up with the original install discs then you can buy them from a nominal cost from AppleCare..

  • I purchased an iPod touch 5 64gb mint condition, it was working good but now I reset it and it's asking for the Apple ID of the original owner. Does anyone know how to bypass this so it works for me?

I purchased an iPod Touch 5 64gb mint condition, it was working great but I reset it and now it's asking me for an Apple Id. Problem is it want the original owners & not mine. I would have no problem contacting the person I bought it off of but I no longer have their information since when it worked I deleted the emails!
Does anyone know how to bypass this problem so that I can have the ipod work for me and my Apple ID?
I would even take it to Apple if they could fix it, would they? and what might that cost me?
    Any suggestions would be great!!!!

Nope. Only the previous owner can do that. See:

  • How can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, i have done command-r

how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.

You will need to do a network recovery:
    Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My App Store is connected to another account. I've tried to alter all my settings through iTunes, The App Store on both the phone and my Mac but it is still connected to the original owner's apple ID. Is there something I can do?

My App Store is connected to another account. I've tried to alter all my settings through iTunes, The App Store on both the phone and my Mac but it is still connected to the original owner's apple ID. Is there something I can do?

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.

Apple cannot help you locate the original owner. If you have no way to contact him/her, and you purchased directly from the seller rather than through a site that offers buyer protection, then the iPad is useless to you and you have wasted your money. The iPad is quite probably stolen and you should turn it in to the police.
This is why it's very risky and usually unwise to purchase out of a car boot from someone you don't know.
    Regards.

so i bought this iphone not knowing that it was stolen and i want to return it but idk how to find out any information

Turn it into your local police with as much information you can provide as to
seller and original owner. Apple cannot/will not help in such matters.

  • How do you reactivate this phone in another family member name after the original owner now deceased

How do you reactivate this phone Verizon Droid Maxx in another family member name after the original owner now deceased

To switch it to another number, you need to activate another phone on the number you no longer need (or have Verizon cancel it for the deceased member).  Once that line is no longer active, you can activate the phone on another number - have Verizon CS at a store help you, or follow the steps on verizonwireless.com from the account of the person you do want it to be activated for.

I found a iPad Mini and would like to return it to the original owner.  I believe it was previously stolen and it cannot be activated.  Any idea how I can get it back to the original owner?

I am very disappointed (yet I somewhat understand) Apple and how they completely have no interest in helping return lost items.  I don't believe the person who traded me this was from around here so I don't even know where to begin.  I seen on ebay you can sell them for parts but I don't really believe in doing that and would like to at least try my best to get it back to whom it belongs to.  I will be contacting my local police department regarding this but I don't think they will be able to do much if it was stolen from somewhere else.  However if nobody claims it in 90 days and I have a letter from my local police station saying I am the new owner, will that be enough for apple to unhold their policy of proving the item belongs to you?

  • I am unable to use the ipad3 as the original owner has passed away, he had set it up with find my iPhone but now I have no way of getting his Apple ID or password. What can I do to use this?

I'm uunable to use iPad do to not knowing user name or password. Original owner passed away. It was set up with find my iPhone.

Take the device, its purchase receipt, and the owner's death certificate to a physical Apple Store or otherwise contact Apple.
