Thai Font Causing "Ozone" Crash

I am working on a FCS project that has both a Thai and English sequence. One has a Thai narration and Thai titles and cartoons and the other has English narration and English titles and cartoons.
I did all the titles and cartoons in Motion 3.02, using some fancy text behaviours on the main titles and a simple type-on and fade out behavior on the section heading lower-third titles and cartoons. I made three animated cartoons to explain 3 complex concepts and made both Thai and English versions of all three.
I used Lucidia Grande as the font for both Thai and English. Lucidia Grand works OK for Thai in Text Editor and FCP.
For about a week, I had no problems. I embedded the motion projects directly into track v2 of the FCP timeline. Everything worked fine. The Thai fonts displayed and animated nicely and I was able to edit the motion projects by right-clicking to open in editor in the FCP timeline. Great!
Then yesterday, FCP started crashing (unexpectedly quit), whenever I scrolled along to one of the Thai titles in the Thai sequence.
I tried opening the Motion project directly from the project file. But, as soon as I tried to edit anything or play the project, Motion crashed with "problem with Ozone" message.
The English text Motion projects are all still fine. They display OK in FCP, I can open them in Motion from FCP, edit them and save them.
All the Motion projects with Thai, except one cause Motion to Crash +(Fortunately, for the complex cartoons with the Thai content, I exported a .mov file a few days ago, before Motion started crashing on the Thai font. The .mov files are OK in FCP but, of course I can not edit them. For all the other Thai font projects, I have dumped the Motion projects from FCP (had to delete the whole video track as FCP would crash if the individual projects appeared on the screen), and just used FCP's text generator to display the Thai text with a simple fade-in / fade-out.)+
There are two weird things about this problem:
One of the Thai motion projects is still OK. It only has one line of Thai text and uses the Thonburi font (maybe the Lucidia Grande font is the root of the problem?). I can open it in Motion, run it, edit it, no problems. I wanted to get into the other Motion projects and change all their Thai fonts from Lucidia Grande to Thonburi but I can not. Motion crashes before I can edit the text format.
The second weird thing is the way that Motion was working fine for many days, then the problem started occuring, out of the blue. I have installed no new software, changed no settings and done nothing different than before the problem...
I am using all the latest version of OSX and FCS and all updates have been installed.

Peter

Adam,
I did try disabling the font in the Font book but that did not help. Motion obviously does not check if a font is enabled or disabled. I was going to rename or delete the problem font but the LucidaGrande font is in System>Fonts and the OS says that I do not have enough privileges to rename or delete it, even as the admin user.
For the one remaining crashing Motion project, I bit the bullet and re-built it. Fortunately, the same project in English is working so it was just a matter of changing every text box to "Thonburi" font then "copy and paste" the Thai text in from the TextEdit file where it is kept. Didn't take too long and, at this stage, it is OK for editing and exporting.
So, I am back in business.
Just made a mental note to carefully change the font of all Thai text to a dedicated Thai font, like Thonburi, before saving a Motion project. What's strange is that my Thai-language Motion projects did work OK for quite a few days with the Font set to LucidaGrande and then Motion just started crashing...
I have never quite figured out how these Asian fonts are best handled in Mac OS X. For example, the LucidaGrande font can handle Thai characters, in some software. In MS-Word for Mac, for some strange reason known only in Redmond, Thai fonts can not display in dedicated Thai fonts like Thonburi but will display in LucidaGrande. TextEdit is fine with either Thai fonts or LucidaGrande. Motion appeared to be OK with LucidaGrande, until it started crashing yesterday.
I have also decided that, until Apple improves the stability of Motion, I wont embed Motion projects in the FCP timeline, using export .mov files instead. The biggest headache caused by this font problem was having to remove a whole track of my FCP timeline and having to rebuild it. It was the only way to stop the Motion bug crashing FCP. Took me until 2am last night to get back to where I was at 9am the previous morning...
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Peter

  • Find Fonts causes freezing/crash in CS6

Running ID CS6 on a Windows XP, SP3 system. I have several IDML files (FrameMaker conversions) that I am editing. So far, no issues, but now, InDesign will freeze when I try to globally update the fonts (mostly body fonts). I'm moving from Times in the original to Times New Roman in my edits - nothing out of the ordinary.
Is this an issue that others have reported, or a case of a corrupt file?

Yes, occuring when I try to update any font that appears in many places throughout the document. After some testing, I'm beginning to think the original FrameMaker file is corrupting when I export - of my 30 chapters, this is the only one it's happening to. I appreciate your help!

  • Thai font being squeezed together on Publishing

I am experiencing strange behaviour when publishing Thai
font. It seems to be being squeezed together to the point that it
overlaps. Is there a fix out there for this issue or has anyone
else experienced such an issue on bibit fonts?

this highly depends on some factors. First off, did you
enable support for alternative languages in windows?
Secondly, if so, did you install the correct fonts? This
usually causes the difference between published and unpublished
fonts. Apart from that, have you tried to turn off anti-aliasing
when publishing? It is a setting in the quiz general preferences.
If those options don't work, I don't know what
    will.....

  • How to identify cause of crashes in Console

Hi. My MacBook Pro has locked up several times in the last few days. Is there a way I can look in Console (or somewhere else) to identify the cause of each crash?
I am not very familiar with Console. There is a CrashReporter file in Console, but it is empty. When I peruse the "All Messages" listing, it is mostly a bunch of gibberish to me. Any ideas what specifically to look, for example, for after I have performed a Force Quit on an application?
    Thank you

Go to developer.apple.com and register for a free membership. Then you can search for document number TN2123 that documents the CrashReporter. I'm afraid, however, that it won't be of much help. It's intended to be used in conjunction with a debugger to trace a problem in a program. Rarely will one see anything in a crash report that will prove helpful.
However, the console log can tell you what caused a lockup or at least what the last thing was that logged an entry before the lockup. You can also provide a more complete description of what exactly was going on when the machine locked up along with any additional information such as error messages. The CrashReporter will at least tell you what process crashed and the timestamp. Then use the timestamp to investigate what's entered in the console log.
Frequent crashes (not kernel panics) of programs that have not normally exhibited a problem may be caused by corrupted preference files or cache files. They can also be caused by font problems - corrupted fonts or duplicate fonts. If you've added fonts to your system then you might check that.
If specific applications are causing the crash and you've already tossed their preference files and any associated cache files but they are still acting up, then consider uninstalling them and then reinstalling. Be sure to fully uninstall the application:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.
It also doesn't hurt to repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • I have files that freeze my programs whenever I try to open ANY file. Is there a way to find the exact files causing the crash?

I have files that are freezing my programs (adobe; after effect and photoshop, as well as maxon cinema 4d). Whenever I try to import ANY file from within the program it doen't even let me select the file I need before freezing. I have moved all files off my desktop and into my dropbox, and it now allows me to import files/search for files on the desktop but NOT dropbox, once I go to dropbox it freezes again. I am assuming there are files within dropbox now that are crashing my programs. The problem is I have a lot of files in there and would like to remove the corrupt ones so that I can use my programs without freezing. Is there a way to find the exact files causing the crash?
This has happened a couple of times and each time I have to move all my files off my desktop, so there must be a type of file doing this, I just don't know what files they are.
Mac Book Pro 15" running OSX 10.9
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

ANY help would be greatly appreciated! It is making it really hard to get work done. THANKS!

This error sounds to me like you have/had BootCamp Windows installed and then removed, posible ?
If so (and even if not so), try restating your MBA while holding down the alt/option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
    Choose to boot OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
    Hope it helps

  • Using Disk Warrior on external drive causes MacBook crash

I work on MacBook System 10.6.7, I back up to LaCie external drive, which I partitioned so that one partition is only for backup, the other is bootable. On this partition I have a clone of Disk Warrior (4.1), to use on the MacBook .
Today I ran DW from the MacBook on the external drive for the first time, because lately it happens that the backup partition does not always appear in the finder (still performs back up though). I applied it first to the boot-partition,  and it told me there were some problems. When it got to replacing the directory, the computer crashed mid way.
I performed Disk Verify on that partition through Disk Utility, and it said that it needed repair, and then that it did repair it. Checked other partition, no problem.
Tried again to rebuild directory for the external drive, and both partitions caused the MacBook to crash. I then booted from the external drive to see if it works, and ran DW on the MacBook, and had no problem there.
Anybody can tell me if it is the MacBook that caused the crash, or if the problem is with the external, and if there is anything else I can try to sort it out?
    thanks,

  • Use of discrete graphics causes hard crash - (MacBook Pro 2010 with ML 10.8.2/3)

I have a client with a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro. He was having crashes with Lion so I upgraded him to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. The crashes did not go away.
I troubleshooted and with the help of gfxCardStatus noticed that every time his machine went to use the discrete graphcis he got the gray hard crash screen and system had to restart. Back then I tried a beta of 10.8.3 and it didn't help.
I noticed that if I created another user account (profile) it would not crash when the discrete graphics card was called upon.
So, I re-installed the OS (to 10.8.2), created a new profile and manually migrated pictures, documents, keychain, mail, movies, music and re-installed the relevant Applications. Everything was working fine and my client went on a trip to Europe and soon the crashes began again. Then he upgraded to 10.8.3 and the crashes got even more frequent (it seems 10.8.3 puts more applications on the discrete graphics list so it switches even more).
I am wondering what could have caused the crashes to begin. It was before he upgraded to 10.8.3. Some application or something he was using must have changed a setting or corrupted something to cause the crashing to begin. I haven't done this yet, but I'm sure if I create another user account it won't crash on it.
Any ideas where to turn my attention to see what is causing the shift from his working user account to a crash-causing one?
He has iLife, Office 2011, Final Cut Pro X, iPhoto Library Manager, VLC, Audacity, DropBox, FileMaker Pro 11, Flip4Mac Player, Fuze, GotoAssist, Handbrake, Skype, iSkySoft DVD Creator, iSkySoft Video Convertor, Onyx and Skype.
I know there are *MANY* others having problems with the automatic graphics card switching and it seems some are having more problems when gfxCardStatus is installed?

Take a copy of the article with you when you go for service. They need to run a SPECIAL diagnostic to decide whether you have this problem. Do not leave until they run the special diagnostic. The "overnight run" does not detect this problem.
If they confirm you have the problem, they will replace the graphics chip, which is part of the motherboard. be prepared to hand over your Mac for depot repair. (Your backups must be up-to-date).

  • Is there a way to track down the cause of crashes in SAFARI?

Not long ago I was able to eliminate one type of crash I had been having in SAFARI by following a suggestion made in this forum. Those crashes, however, were of the type that generated a 'crash report.' So they left a kind of 'paper trail' as to what was causing them.
More recently I have been having frequent crashes that don't result in such reports. These crashes occur apparently randomly when I mouseclick on a link. The spinning beach ball appears on-screen and never leaves.
Is there a way to find out exactly what is causing these crashes?
    Thanks.

    Hello Michael:
I have not yet seen a
good approach to using that information (short of
    deleting the account).
better search some yourself Barry <G>
if something runs fine in another account - one can isolate the cause to one of the plist files in the main acct Home/Library/Preferences/ or possibly an add-on in Home/Library/Internet Pug-Ins or ...Input Managers for example.
If there is the same problem in the new acct - you can discount anything with the main acct user library - plists, caches, plugins, input managers, the whole lot.
A useful tool is Console - found in Applications/Utilities/ keep it running while the 'problem' in question crops up & see if any messages pop up in either the system log or console log. Sometimes these will point straight at the problem area, other times no help at all.

  • Sticky Notes in a pdf file cause ie7 crashed.

This is a very interesting bug.
System version: Windows XP with SP3

    Files needed for testing:
a pdf file (note.pdf) with Sticky Note displayed.

    Action which causes the crash:
    1.       Open note.html in a new IE window
    2.       Click the link to open the note.pdf in a new window or a new tab, then close it
    3.       Click AGAIN the link to open the note.pdf in a new window or a new tab, then close it

  • Does iBooks author and iBooks support thai fonts?

I ,live in Thailand, want to create books by using iBook author but from what i've know iBook only support one font for THAI language, is it true or not.
Also does iBooks author support modifed thai font from the internet?

The iPad only has one Thai font, Thonburi, and you cannot embed other fonts using iBook Author.  Here is some info about using other apps

  • KB3038314 causing IE crash

    hey all,
hopefully i have the right forum for this question.
the IE cumulative update for the past few months has been causing IE to crash on one of our internal websites.
the March update (3032359) has a documented issue with table-based websites (which our internal site is); this issue isn't documented for the April update (3038314), however it's still crashing IE on this website.
if i understand the cumulative updates correctly, they're a roll up of individual IE updates.  from what i can see, there's no way to uninstall these updates one by one.
my current theory is there's an offending update within the cumulative that's causing the crashing issue, but not sure how to isolate the offending update.
make sense?  any help is appreciated.
    thanks!

    Hi Matt,
    >>if i understand the cumulative updates correctly, they're a roll up of individual IE updates.  from what i can see, there's no way to uninstall these updates one by one.
Yes, your understanding is correct. Please try to remove this update.
If this issue is very urgent, you may contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607
Hope the issue will be resolved soon.
Steven Lee Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]
thanks for the response; is there a way to uninstall individual updates that are included in the cumulative?
it's likely that one of these updates is causing our issue, and until we determine the offending update, we'll likely continue to encounter this issue going forward with the cumulative updates.
i can contact Microsoft support, but if there's a way for me to uninstall each update manually, i can easily take the time to troubleshoot this on my own.
    any ideas?
    thanks!

  • OVM 3 Generic Storage Plugin. Acess Group configuration causes server crash

Our iSCSI management is currently entirely done manually at the servers console, because we still don't have a SAN Equallogic storage plugin.
At OVM Manager interface, what we thought being just useless in our case (SAN Access Group), is the actual iSCSI connection (and disconnection..) management for servers.
Following the upgrade to 3.2.1, setting up the SAN did nothing more than what we do manually. But undoing part of it caused the crash.
All over OVM Manager, any operation/setup that could impact running VMs is denied... Except there, at the real root of everything.
Removing a iSCSI initiator from that panel disconnects abruptly the iSCSI disk, !!!! without warning !!!!.
Then, after the 60s timetout, the physical server reboots.
It is still not clear if we get a benefice to setup that "Access Group" of the SAN or not. At least, once setup, we know that we'd better keep it...

  • Problem in displaying Thai fonts after migrating from Reports 2.5 to 6i

    Hi,
We have recently migrated our reports from Reports 2.5 to 6i.
When we were using Reports 2.5, we could display The Thai Fonts correctly, but after migrating to 6i, the data retrieved from database is being displayed as junk characters.
In Reports 2.5 we had set a registry variable ORA_CHARSET_CONVERSION to NO_CHARSET_CONVERSION. We were using NLS_LANG as AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8IS08859P1 in 2.5.
If we change WE8IS08859P1 to US7ASCII for Reports 6i, the data retrieved from database is being displayed correctly in Thai fonts, but the labels become junk characters.
Do we need to do any special setup in 6i?
    Nigam.

    Hi All,
Whilst doing the migration (and god knows how long this will take) I need to document the log file of all functions and changes made. The manual states that there is a PLG file created however, I can't seem to find it. I'm running the conversion one by one and not in batch mode. Can someone help me locating the PLG log file.
    Thanks

  • Thai fonts in FM8

Can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem? I created a manual in Thai (BrowalliaUPC font) in FM7. When I open it in FM8, it turns to gibberish, no matter what Thai font I use. Does FM8 not support Thai fonts? I no longer have FM7 on my computer, and need to update this manual.

Without having used Thai fonts, I think:
When you moved to FM 8, you also moved to a Unicode environment; the documents you created in 7 were not Unicode, so the manner in which you insert characters probably changed. I recall seeing other problems with people who had to switch environments, but I'm unsure if there's an easy solution.
Based on Microsoft's www site for BrowalliaUPC, it also looks as if there are two versions of the font in the field, and they seem to have different levels of Unicode support. If you're using the 2.2 version of the font, you may want to get the version 5 shipped with Vista and 7 to get the expanded support.
To see if there's also something going on with the operating system / environment, I'd suggest creating a new FM 8 fle and seeing if you can insert content with the Thai font... or if that's also twisted.
