Thanks iTunes 9.0.1

iTunes now recognizes my iPhone all the time! I'm now able to sync +without crashing+! Hope others have had similar success....

I think I resolved my problem (though I still don't know what caused it). I'll share it here for others who have the problem.
I closed iTunes and went to my music/itunes folder and discovered a file called "iTunes Library (damaged)" which I renamed (after moving the original "iTunes Library" file to a backup folder), by removing the "(damaged)" portion of the name. Reopening iTunes restored my library to the condition it was in before the problem.
Hope this helps someone else.

No one here said anything about an update or your device needing it.
FYI, you are not addressing Apple here, we are all users like yourself.
If the device is in recovery mode, the only option is to restore it.  All data on the device is gone.  This should not be an issue if the device has been used as designed and regularly synced/backed up.

  • WOOOOHOOOO  Thanks Itunes 7.3 Shuffle Playlists finally work right....:-)

Thanks Apple for fixing the playlist problems with the Ipod Shuffle 2G... It finally stays in the order you want them sorted... I am a happy camper now...

    My shuffle+iTunes(7.1 & 7.2) faithfully updated
playcounts every time I plugged my shuffle into the
dock when when itunes was running. No more...
Mine stopped while still on iTunes 7.2 - the upgrade to 7.3 didn't fix it, but it didn't cause it either.
I've also restored iPod Shuffle v1.0.2 to the iPod, no luck.

  • Christmas songs in June?  No thanks iTunes Match

    Hello
I want to keep songs in iTunes match but don't want to play certain songs all through the year.  For example I don't want to play Christmas songs in June!  How can I stop them playing without deleting them?
    Thanks!

If you're not using iTunes Match to stream the songs to your computer's iTunes, and have them stored locally, you can delete the local files (but do NOT opt to also remove them from iCloud) and then in the menu bar, go to "View" > "Hide Songs in the Cloud." This will allow you to hide any songs not stored on your computer until you're ready for them.

  • Thanks iTunes for not backing up ALL my apps

I did a restore to get rid of "other" in storage.
I lost my card star....now I have to go find all my account numbers again.
Now, granted it might not be apple's fault...maybe the app was written wrong or whatever..but iTunes did NOT recognize it and I lost all my cards
    just be aware......

Did you lose the app itself or just the data?  There is a difference.
I don't have Card Star and there is little information on their web site.  They do make a hoopla about backing up data to their cloud service.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

I cannot install latest itunes to my Sony notebook which is running on traditional chinese windows 7 64-bit, the error message is something like unrecognized windows package, can any one help me or has similar experience? Thanks.

iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

  • ITunes won't open after FW migration between G5 10.4.11 and iMac 10.6.2

I just got my wonderful iMac i7 machine and used the migration assistant to move everything from my G5 OS 10.4.11 machine to the iMac.
Everything has worked without a hitch except I have to re-active Photoshop and I had to re-input my Aperture serial number. No big whoop!
However... this morning I decided to use iTunes and it won't work! I get the message:
"This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes."
Now, I know this topic is a very common one however everybody who gets this probably seems to have a totally different issue, like some previous software is incompatible or whatever.
For me, I have no idea why it would be doing this except for one thing: My iTunes library is on an external Firewire drive. Could this be the problem?
Does anybody know what the problem is here?
I would assume that all the settings and prefs would have migrated over, so I don't know how this could be happening.
PS: there is one other issue that might affect it, but I doubt it. Long ago my old external iTunes drive crashed. I was able to recover about 1/8th of my music, and then I started re-ripping my entire CD library. Thankfully, iTunes still showed me all the songs that were once in my library but aren't anymore. And whenever I ripped that song from my CD collection, it just filled in and kept all the old comments and ratings and everything. Wonderful! However.... I wasn't finished by the time I migrated to the iMac... I'm close to being done, but there were a bunch of songs in the database that weren't actually re-ripped. Could this be affecting it?
Anyway... if anybody has some ideas, I'd appreciate it. I'm afraid of re-installing and losing all of my ratings and comments from over 14,000 songs!

If Aperature is working okay, then there may be no need to reinstall it.
I doubt reinstalling it (or anything else) will delete any preferences. Maybe sone obscure 3rd party apps will write over prefs when reinstalling but I have never heard of any Apple applications deleting prefs when reinstalling.
Reinstalling iTunes will not affect anything. All preferences will be as they were.

  • HOW WILL I BACK UP MY ITUNES LIBRARY TO HARDDRIVE SO I CAN FREE UP SOME SPACE IN MY MAC?

    Hi!
My mac is running low in memory space and mostly of the bigger occupants of my laptop are my music collection. Therefore, i want to back it up or transfer it to my external hard drive so i can free up some space. And just play it when connected to my external hard drive. How will i do it?
Also is there a short cut for deleting duplicate songs in my itunes.
    Please help thanks.

Note that moving your library to another drive is not "backing up".  Backing up is making a second (or more) copy of your files onto another drive because you know that some day, without warning, your hard drive will suddenly refuse to work or get stolen and you will be sooo happy you spent the $100 in getting a backup drive which will have saved all your files (such as irreplaceable photos).

I would do it manually.  As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates.

  • How do I backup my itunes library to cd?

    Hi.
Can anyone please post the link to support or is able to give me instructions on how to backup my itunes library to a cd?
    Many thanks.

iTunes won't do it any more. You can use whatever 3rd party CD/DVD burning tools came with your machine, but I'd recommend you use an external hard drive and backup the library with this User Tip.

  • Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

  • ITunes Match with 3 Apple ID's

I have dug through this what seems like forever.  I can't seem to find the answer.
In our house we have 3 Apple ID's.  We have 3 iTunes libraries.  Two of the libraries use home sharing to get many songs off of the other library.
We finally downloaded all of our CD's and thought we would hook up the first library to iTunes Match (as all the songs will not fit on an iPhone, iPad, iTouch).
If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?  If I associate all of our Apple devices (iMac, MBP, 2 iPhones, iTouch, 2 iPads = 7 devices) with the iTunes Match I am wondering:
      A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
      B.  Can only the one account buy music, books, apps, etc.?
      C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
      D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
Sorry to sound like a noob, but not sure where else to look for answers.  Thanks.

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.

Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:

It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:

Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.

Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from my iPhone 3GS to my new computer (old computer died)

I have an iPhone 3GS 32GB with 20GB of music on it from a previous computer's iTunes library.  I bought a new laptop (Sony Vaio with Windows 7) and downloaded iTunes (v10.5.3.3 and latest iOS on the iPhone).  iTunes lets me transfer purchases back to the laptop but not non-purchased material (i.e. stuff I imported from CDs I own).  Is there any way of transferring ALL the material back to the new laptop without re-copying every CD again?
I tried to follow the manual management option, but Windows Explorer only recognises my iPhone as Internal Storage for the camera files.
I spent hours today reading forums/communities to help me overcome the problem and to avoid asking a repeat question but nothing seems to have worked.  I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.
    Thanks

" iTunes lets me transfer purchases back to the laptop but not non-purchased material (i.e. stuff I imported from CDs I own)."
That is correct.  The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.  the iphone is not a backup device and does not function as a storage drive.
it has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.n  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
