That GPS question (N80)

IS there a definitive yes on any GPS software that works with the N80 ?
And what compatible GPS module ?
Thanks.

yes that is, if you are not experiencing other problems (out of memory etc) you want to get rid of more than you want to have navigation software
Route66 should work on the N80 (however it's removed from the compatibility list due to 0617-issues (which is the standard firmware for all new N80s)), and I'm using a tomtom bluetooth gps with nav4all (another working navigation thing, but you have to pay for GPRS/3G to get the route), which is working fine, except for the disconnection problems.

  • How long does it takes that GPS in MAP 3.1 will wo...

    Question to NOKIA:
HOW LONG TIME YOU NEED TO MAKE GPS TO WORK WITH OVI MAP 3.1 in N97?
On all N97 I know and as you can read here in forum the GPS doesn't work usable in N97 and with MAP 3.1.
I believe that this is a software problem because often I get a GPS signal inhouse and in the wood, but from one second  to the other N97 lost the GPS signal. And this in the best weather condition under free sky. Sometimes gps signal works for 15 minutes, then the signal will drop every minute or so.
The current position on map is shift (past) abaout 40-50 meters from the real position, so its unable to use.
The calculated speed is always changing between 0 and the current speed.
I have updated phone to de newes software and firmware also to ne newest maps also has hard reseted and reformatet and the problem ist still the same.
CAN NOKIA TELL US WHEN THIS BUG WILL BE FIXED, AND CAN NOKIA OFFER US A REFUND.
I have payed a lot for N97 and alot for the navigation licence and a lot for accesoires and a lot for the traffic security assistance. So I want a working phone! I dint have payed money for e alpha-stadium phone.
If this is realy the quality of nokia phone, then It is the latest phone I have buyed from nokia.
By the way, the phone has many many many many other bugs as described in this forum.
    Really bad work NOKIA! :-(
I was so excited with my N95 and now this mess...
NOKIA please answer us forum members, what you plan to do with the N97 bugs. When we can hope that the bugs are gone? Otherwise I will return my phone and want my money back and I sue for compensation.

  • IPhone GPS question

    Hello Everybody!
I'm a new iPhone user and new at iPhoneFans.
I'm from Brazil and I have an iPhone 3Gs without jailbreak and locked to my mobile company (Vivo). Next week I'm gonna to Orlando. It will work in roaming, but I will not use data connection in roaming because it is extremelly expansive (about USD$ 15 per MB).
I would like to know if I have a GPS software like Tomtom, and if I try to use it, it will need some kind of data connection for the aGPS assistance?
And other question is, there are some GPS software that I could buy just adicional maps instead the full software for each "map" or country?
    Thanks for any help.
    []s
    Tuts

Although the iPhone uses AGPS or assisted GPS, the iPhone includes a GPS receiver. The iPhone's AGPS allows for a GPS fix to be acquired faster only. It is not required to get a GPS fix.
Data roaming is turned off by default with the iPhone. Data access via the cellular network is not required to get a GPS fix, and if you have a GPS app with maps data for a geographic location downloaded and available locally on the iPhone with the app, no internet access is required for access to the maps data.

  • GPS Question [might be dumb]

Last night was the first night I used GPS on my phone, I had to pick someone up. Well I got there and couldn't figure out how to shut the thing off, it kept tracking where I was. Or as soon as you hit the home button an exit out of maps does it stop?

Geneticfusion is correct on turning it off by hitting the lower left target. But to answer your other question, it does turn off when you hit the home button to exit maps. That does not turn off the GPS chip, only the current "locking onto" your location. Under settings, you can turn off the GPS.

  • Ipad 2 built quality / lightbleeding / gps question

    hi guys,
i'm thinking of getting an ipad 2 64gb 3g - but i'm quite shocked reading - literally everywhere - about the bad built quality and lightbleeding. i know that forums rather resemble the bad news then the good ones, but the amount of complaints makes me think twice buying one.
but if i'd order one now, which production week would i probably get and how are the newer builds considering overall and screen quality? what is the word on the streets?
my other question concerns the gps function. i will not need a 3g internet connection but i'd like to use a navigation app. will i be able to use apps like tomtom or navigon without a 3g internet connection? what will be the forfeit?
    thanks in advance,
    joerg

In addition to the previous reply and just t be clear, if you want to use GPS on the move then you will need the 3G version even if you don't activate the service - the wifi only model doesn't have a gps chip in it.
And, if the equipment in your byline is correct, you'll need to update to at least 10.5.8

  • 1 possibly 2 GPS questions

I was under the impression that you had to initiate a GPS lock on your phone with whatever app you wanted to use if you knew you were going out of range of any cell service and that you could keep that lock once you left the world behind. Now I am reading with GPS apps for the phone that you can get a lock in the middle of nowhere with out any cell service or wifi. Granted I am under the impression that it would just take longer since it is an assisted GPS. So questions
    1. If my phone is completely off. I travel to some remote place with no signals whatsoever and I turn my phone on and open a GPS app.. Can it still get a lock on me?
    2. If my phone is in airplane mode does the GPS still work? Because I have only had a minute or two to test it but I drove to work in airplane mode and pulled over before I got there and opened the app and it still locked on to me.
That's it. Thanks for the help guys.
PS. I know about getting the offline maps and the apps that let you get driving directions without internet. Thanks

Yeah, that's a discrepancy. but so far its been able to locate me. correctly while on airplane mode.
I'll try it out again after when I'm out and about.
As long as you have the Maps it should be able to locate you.
Cool. Hopefully it works in airplane mode contrary to what I have read. If not I have found a promising alternative from another website for conserving batterylife in the wilderness when all you want is GPS. Seems like it is legit and I am going to try it out.

I'd thought I'd share - the best way to do this without needing a paper clip and peeling off your case is to use the SIM PIN function. Turn it on (Settings->Phone-> SIM PIN) and reboot the phone. When it asks to unlock the SIM, just hit cancel. This will have the same effect as removing the SIM
Of course do to this you'll need the SIM PIN. For AT&T the default is 1111. You should be able to get your SIM PIN from your carrier.
Not sure if this works with non-SIM iPhones, i.e Verizon.
WARNING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT SIM PIN OTHERWISE 3 FAILED ATTEMPTS WILL LOCK YOUR PHONE.  I have confirmed 1111 pin worked on my ATT iPhone 6 ios8
Then just turn off wifi and Bluetooth, turn screen brightness down and I think you should get amazing battery life.

  • Nokia 500 GPS questions/troubles with: Contacts, F...

So... I have owned my 500 now since Christmas (I received the 500 as a gift from my father-in-law). Overall, for my first GPS device, I really enjoy all the features... But, I'm having quite a few troubles and hoped that some expert users or Nokia Support folks might be able to help.
    1) It took me forever, but I found a program to sync my Treo 700wx from Verizon to the Nokia 500. When I first tried syncing my phone it was recognized just fine but then only downloaded my 5 favorite (or quick dial) contacts from the Windows Mobile homepage. Then I did some looking on the internet and found a program from a company called JETware Mobile Software at www.jetwaremobile.com. The first time I used this software (the trial version only) I suceeded in syncing 623 contacts to the Nokia 500. Here are the issues though... The addresses did not sync (what a huge inconvenience considering this was 90% of the reason I wanted to sync the contacts). The phone numbers for each contact (if there were multiple phone numbers for the same person) sync as seperate contacts on the Nokia 500 (not a huge deal).
Question# 1) Isn't there a way to use some sort of a program on the PC to syncronize contacts from let's say Outlook or VCF files or a CSV file to the Nokia 500 manually?
    2) I copied all the data from the supplied 2gb SD card and loaded it onto a new AData 16gb SD card & re-inserted the card to make sure everything worked ok on the device - No problem. I uploaded 8 gb of MP3 & 4 gb of Movies (in MP4 format - great program to use is www.pqdvd.com - buy the iPod version or PSP version so you can use it for both) and 1 gb of pictures.
    Here are my comments:
MP3's - The player is a bit cheezy, but I was finally able to figure out how to play at random all the MP3s or play individual folders of songs at a time. Too bad you can't create or import a playlist!
FM Transmitter - Totally worthless in Sacramento, CA where there isn't a whole lot of open FM channels on the radio dial. Unfortunately my Jetta doesn't have an audio input plug otherwise this might work a lot better!
Note: the only place I can find to turn the FM transmitter on is in the MP3 playing mode (very strange & annoying)
Movies - I read a lot here to find out why the playback was so choppy & pretty low quality... Bottom line - You have to record the MP4s at about 15fps and create a MP4 file for about a one & a half hour movie that is about 600mb or so. This seemed to work pretty good.
Question #2) Is there a recommendation from Nokia experts on how to help the FM transmitter function worth a darn?
    3) I've searched for many addresses on the GPS and echo other's complaints about very strange missing information & strange city lines in Nokia's software. It's very odd to me that I have to go thru about 10 clicks to "Take me home" and that everytime the device navigates me home it takes me a very off-the-beaten-path way home.
Question #3) Is there a way to save the route you actually drove between two destinations and store that as a trip on the Nokia 500 - vs. storing just the end destination & the Nokia solution to get from point A to B.
    4) Battery life - If I had to guess the average battery life I've seen using this device is about 1 hour from power up to "I really need charging". Is this normal for GPS devices? I'm guessing it must be and most people just keep these plugged in at all times to their cigarette adapters.
    5) Traffic - From my testing in Sacramento, CA there is no traffic service or alerts.
Question #4) Is there a service I need to purchase & how would one go about turning on traffic services for the Nokia 500?
    6) User-interface - I'm brand new to this whole GPS world but as you can tell from this review I'm pretty tech-savvy... I'm a bit surprised at home much savvy it really takes to operate this device and I would think the average not-so-savvy user would be very put off by this.
Overall if I were to rate this device out of 10 I'd have to say it's a strong 6/10 and possibly a 7/10.
I really appreciate any expert feedback on my above 4 questions & 6 topics if at all possible.
    Thank you!
    ~Jeff

Jeff, here's my input on your points and questions. Thanks for writing your post...
Question 1) It only supports syncing over bluetooth with phones that meet its bluetooth specs (see the user manual on the DVD for more details or the product website)
    Point 2)
While you can't create or import a playlist on the Nokia, you can use your media player on your computer (e.g. Windows Media Player), while the SD card is inserted in your card reader on your computer, to create a playlist. Then copy the playlist file over the existing playlist file found in the root of your SD card.
Question 2) Not sure how to answer this one. The transmitter is built into the Nokia. So you just need to program it to use an available frequency (understanding that it is hard to find in your area). It doesn't unfortunately have the ability to scan for available frequencies (that would be cool).
Point 3) After you've selected to take you home, press the menu button and the Alt Route button where you can (according to the manual) configure the Nokia to block a route from being used.
Question 3) You would have to create a trip that includes enough waypoints (which you can create by creating bookmarks as you drive along) and then use that. Not to be sarcastic, but I find it funny how obsessed we all get about a GPS choosing the best route when if you already know of a better route then why do you even need the GPS' guidance? I'm guilty of this too so I'm also laughing at myself.
Point 4) I'm guessing that if your using the bluetooth integration, the FM transmitter, the TMC receiver, streaming video, using navigation, and keeping the brightness at the max setting, the estimated 2hr battery life isn't going to happen. The manual actually recommends using the cigarette lighter because it is your TMC receiver.
Point 5) My city (Vancouver, Canada) does offer TMC and my Nokia says its tuned in (I know because I've also seen the message where it says it is Tuning) yet I've not seen one traffic advisory yet. My Nokia's manual included an addendum from Nokia saying that TMC service is not available in the US and Canada. We all know this isn't true but maybe this is Nokia's way of saying their version of a TMC receiver doesn't work in North America.
Question 4) Good question. I think the answer is no because this TMC receiver is meant to work with a free TMC service. I'm thinking that maybe the only TMC services in US and Canada are pay-services that require you to enter a subscription unlock code in your GPS - the Nokia doesn't appear to provide such a function. *** This is my theory, I haven't confirmed this with any TMC provider ***
Point 6) I agree the user interface is not meant for non-tech-literates. It took me awhile to figure it out. Especially the meaning of icons and when to use them. This is NOT the Tivo of GPS
Overall I'm satisfied with my GPS even though I suspect there will never be map, POI, or software updates. I plan to figure out a way to mount it to my motorbike and ride all the way down to Mexico City (if I can figure out how to unlock the license for the Mexico map!)

  • [N95] GPS Question

    Hi,
I got an unlocked N95 (US), I updated to latest firmware and everything works fine with the GPS. I can lock the satellites and get an accurate position of my location.
I am planning a trip to another state and to speed up downloads I downloaded and installed Nokia Map Loader v1.1 in my PC and tried to download the new State without success. The steps I followed were:
1.- Connect the N95 via USB and select Mass Storage
2.- Run Nokia Map Loader and select the State I want to download
    3.- Click download
    I got the following messages:
    - Verifying Mass Storage
    - A downloading progress bar that fills up completely
    - The Save to storage bar never moves and the window with it closes
    - Verifying Mass storage message again
    - Error message: Mass Storage had been disconnected, connect it and try again.
The disk never disconnects, actually I an see it all the time under My PC
I tried different states, countries with similar results.
    Any idea what is happening?
    Thanks

    Hi seti
I don't whether this has anything to do with the fact that you are using the latest version of Maploader v1.1, but the latest version of Nokia Maps 1.1 is NOT currently available for the N95 if you check Smart2go site. It has been reported elsewhere that this is due to a problem in "licnce manager" soon to be reolved.

i guess i just to gt a gps reciever for the pc and call it a day.
I don't assume to know how your Department runs or spends it's money, but...  Most departments have or have access to GPS units that tie into your in vehicle laptop docking station.  With that said if you're using personal equipment this doesn't help you.
On WinMo phones there was a program called GPSGate that did exactly what you are wanting.
*Working*  Ok, GPS2GPSGate was just released a couple weeks ago, they are still working out the bugs, but it should be what you are looking for.

  • GPS very slow and GPS question

    Hello,
Is this happen only with my X6?
Its take the GPS more then two minuts to get the location even when I see that it found 5 satellites with good sign.
Also, I wanted to know - I have a ploar sport tracker program that use the GPS.
If I start the program and then hit the "end" button and start useing the MP3 player.
Does it stop the GPS? also, Can the GPS work simultaneity with to GPS program?
For examples - Can I run my polar program and Nokia maps in the same time?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you are using Integrated GPS.. you may not get it working inside a building.. You have to be in an area open to sky. It will take anything between 5 and 25 minutes to get the GPS Lock.. i.e. the initial position finding.. The time depends on your location ( whether surrounded by tall trees / highrise buildings..) and environment..(clouds / rain..)...
Once you get the Lock.. there should not be problem navigating...
If you use A-GPS or Network based GPS the GPS Lock will be quicker but it requires to use the Packet Data  and will be added cost..

I get this error when I try to load my simple page testform.jsp

         <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" />
    </form></body>
it should be noted that if I remove the taglib directive the page works fine (the EL returns false before clicking the form button, and returns true if you have clicked the button).
    The directory structure:
    [tomcat's webapps directory]\playground
    ---testform.jsp
    ---\WEB-INF
    ------\lib
    ---------jstl.jar
    ---------standard.jar
In other words, the jstl and standard jar files are in the WEB-INF\lib directory like I understand they should be. I've looked at the tld files inside the jar. They are using http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core as the uri
I have tried this exact scenario using both Tomcat 7 and Tomcat 5.5.
so, the question is,... what am I doing wrong?
    Edited by: 861734 on May 26, 2011 9:28 AM

I haven't made a web.xml. I was under the belief that to use the core taglib you didn't need it. Am I mistaken?

  • That SSID Question Again

The question is not "how do I do it" - because I know the answer to that.
The question is "why is it so difficult to find the answer?"
Just in case anyone is struggling, this is how to do it with OSX 10.9 and an HP Photosmart C4380:
    1) Reset wireless settings on the printer (see manual for how to do that).
    2) Print the network configuration settings now you have reset them; they should tell you it is in ad-hoc network mode and they should tell you the "URL" and the wireless network name. Mine was "hpsetup". You will need that in a moment.
    3) With the controlling computer, join the ad-hoc network using your wireless settings - I am guessing you know how to join different wireless networks with your computer.
    4) Open the URL from step 2 in a web browser. You are now in control of the printer.
    5) Under "Networking" go to the "Advanced" tab. Enter the SSID you want to use, select "infrastructure" and enter the WEP key or whatever is appropriate for your network.
    6) Note that when you press "Apply", the printer changes the nwtwork to which it is connected. That means the page you're looking at appears to crash. Which technically it has, as the server just disappeared from your computer's universe. Don't worry.
    7) Print the network configuration settings again and check it has in fact joined your network of choice. If it hasn't, go back to step 1. Nothing else will do - you must go back to step 1 and try again.
    8) Presuming you were successful in step 7, rejoin the main network with your computer.
    9) Add the newly connected printer to the list of available printers, since it has now become visible. Again I am presuming you know how to do that, but if you don't there are many versions of instructions for that available on Google.
So again, I repeat my question. Why was it so difficult to get instructions on that little dance involving reset - ad-hoc network - enter information - apply? Changing SSID for your home network is very common.
Why so difficult to find, HP?
