The 10.5.3 update crashes .mac

Hi All,
I'm curious to know if anyone has experienced this problem and if they have found a solution. It's occurring on my Macbook Pro that I've had for barely six months and just updated to 10.5.3; Since installing the update, clicking on the .mac preference pane crashes the preferences app. Some random glitches have also appeared in other applications, e.g. navigating to the Apple UK store causes Safari to crash (nice one, guess I won't be buying any more stuff from Apple!). This only happens when I am connected to the internet via the airport.
Not being able to change my .mac preferences is bad enough but the really significant problem is the effect on two other processes, filesyncagent and dotmacsyncclient. They each start up automatically and proceed to run constantly at around 90% CPU each. Based on the their names and some digging around I know there are to do with the synchronisation of my iDisk and other .mac stuff and therefore related to the same issue. The result is that my battery runs down within an hour unless I kill the processes.
This is a really serious problem for me (and I assume many others). I would appreciate any help anyone out there has to offer.
Many thanks.

Are you by any chance using a proxy server that works through a .pac file? If so, go to System Preferences>Network>Advanced...>Proxies and disable it, just to see if that helps. I think OS 10.5.3 introduced a javascript incompatibility with proxy .pac servers.

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

The new flash player update crashes internet explorer and firefox, please send a new release to fix the problem ASAP!

ok   here's more mystery.  i just uninstalled and reinstalled flash player using the adobe uninstaller and rebooting after each step.  aqlso installed latest java.  i started looking at videos and here are the ones that worked: you tube
                                                                                           imdb
                                                                                           hulu
                                                                                           ebaumsworld
here are the ones that didn't work:    yahoo
                                                                                           msn
                                                                                           reuters
here are the ones that partially worked: the blaze (works on videos that originate from you tube, but not from news stories)
bing (work on videos from their video section - entertainment type, but not from news videos)
the common thing here seems to be that news type videos crash and entertainment type don't.  also videos seem more likely to crash on internet portals like yahoo

  • What's the best way to update my Mac with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player?

I've been getting prompts whenever I look at certain websites to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.  I'm skeptical as to responding to those prompts.  What is the best way to update my Mac Pro with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player?

You might also want to consider uninstalling Adobe Flash... I currently don't have it installed and haven't needed to install it.  Most websites are now coded in HTML 5 so that the iOS devices can actually visit them.  I can still watch YouTube videos et al.  About the only thing I can't do is play Flash games... but they're a resource hog anyways.
Try going without for a day or two and see just how many sites you visit no longer require it.  A lot of people keep it installed out of habit, not out of necessity.  If you have Flash installed, visit a site and it's out of date, it will tell you to update your Flash.  What it won't do is tell you is that had Flash not been installed, it would have used the HTML 5 code instead.  Think about it... if an iOS device can't run Flash at all... it can't visit this site if it were written only to use Flash.  What site would eliminate such a huge portion of their market base?  You'd be surprised at how many sites use HTML 5.  Uninstall Flash and see for yourself.

A really recent MacBook Pro would be running Lion, Mac OS 10.7, and the most recent update is 10.7.3. The delta update from 10.7.2 was found to cause problems and rather than fix them, the update was pulled and Lion users were directed to the "combo" updater which contained all the code necessary to update any Mac running Lion from any previous version of Lion, which is a lot of code, hence the very big download. BTW, 10.7.3 has been problematic for some software so it would be wise to explore the comments and complaints in the Lion forum before you update since you can't go back if you change your mind without having a good backup. Also BTW, this forum is for the Mac Pro; you have a MacBook Pro, which has its own forum and can probably provide you with more useful information.

Version Cue, which was installed with the Creative Suite 2, isn't compatible with the QuickTime 7.1 update. Apple has now posted QuickTime 7.1.1 to addrss the problem.
Reboot your Mac in Safe Boot Mode by holding down the shift key when restarting the Mac. Then under the Apple menu go to Software Updates and download and install the QuickTime 7.1.1 update.
Please note that Version Cue isn't supported on Intel-based Macs and you will see the version Cue icon crossed out in the top right corner of the menu bar.

  • MBOX K9VGM-V after Flashing the BIOS successfully Live Update crashes system

I recently purchased a barbones computer with the K9VGM-V motherboard.  After installing all the drivers on the disk, updating Windows 2000 competely through Windows Update I decided to try Live Update.  The first thing I updated was my BIOS from Ver. 1.6 to 1.7.  The flash was completely successful.  However when I went back to Live Update(the latest version btw) the minute I executed the program my system completely crashed!  It was like I had hit the reset switch.  I decided to format my HD and reinstall everything.  The BIOS works fine and the system is entirely stable, but even after starting with a clean slate I tried the Online version of Live Update and the same thing happened.  My computer crashed and restarted itself.  This happened after the BIOS flash so it must be related to that.  I am just not sure how or why.  Any suggestions or input?

    Read Moan Guide
So you have crash only when trying to using LiveUpdate or? If yes just ignore it and do not use LiveUpdate

  • Is the Captivate 6.01 update for Mac corrupt?

I'm trying to update my Captivate installation from 6.0.0.199 to update 6.0.1.240 on a Mac running OSX 10.8.2.
After downloading the DMG, I double-click to open it, and get the messages: "The following disk images couldn't be opened" and "Captivate-6-0-1-Upd: not recognized"
Is this because the DMG is corrupt? I've downloaded this package repeatedly, and get the same result.
    What are my options?

    Edwin,
What you need is the Java for Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Please go to the following page http://support.apple.com/downloads/#Java and download it directly from Apple.
    I hope I can help.

  • My Mac has lost it's mind since the 10.5.2 update!  System VERY unstable!

Ok, ever since I installed the 10.5.2 update my Mac mini has been behaving badly! This sucka is askin' for a time out (if you get what I mean). We're about to see just how airborne a Mac mini can get in a few!
Ok, since I updated to 10.5.2 I've been getting these crashes here is a report from one of the crashes which gives some message like, "You will need to restart your Mac." I just know I had never seen this message until I had installed the latest OSX update.
Is there a way that I can uninstall this update? Now it's gotten to be so unstable that I'm no longer getting any error message, it just locks up after 20 or so minutes of use sometimes.
Oh something else in that started happening. I can't leave it running idle for more than 20 to 30 minutes or it will lock up for certain. When it locks up the only thing I can do it to power off and back on again.
Is there a way to remove the updates that I had installed? I'm using Time Machine, but is there a way to revert back to a time just prior to installing the 10.5.2 update? I'm afraid if I can't figure this out, I'm going to have to delete and reinstall Leopard and see if that resolves my problems. Oh, is there a diagnostic test that I should run to make sure I'm not having a hardware problem. This is my first Mac ever so I'm not sure exactly how to troubleshoot it.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Um, no actually I don't have THAT many devices attached. I have the Apple keyboard, a Logitech mouse, a FireWire external hard drive which is my boot drive and a USB key drive may have been plugged in at the time (which isn't now and nothing has improved). I don't even have a printer attached right now.
Leopard has gotten so unreliable that I'm seriously thinking of wiping out everything and reinstalling. I can't keep the **** thing up and running at this point. It keeps locking up on me and NOT reporting any error messages. I couldn't even run the Disk Utility last time I booted it up. Even that locked up on me. I don't understand what's happened! It used to be rock solid, running WAY better than my Dell Windows Vista box. Now it won't run for ****!
So why can't I just remove the last update and see how things run then? Can't updates be removed? Can Time Machine restore the system files to an earlier point in time. What a frickin' waist if it can't. I come from the Windows world where I could restore from a restore point and it would set things back to where they were last working. Does that not exist on the mac? I'll try to remove the Logitech mouse software and see what difference that makes, but it's been running great for 6 months with it. Like I've said before, things didn't go south until after that update was installed.
So if anyone else out there has some ideas, PLEASE let me know!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • "Software Update" crashes upon download

Last week I was given a new Mac mini as a gift; I upgraded the memory to 2G; did Target Disk transfer from my old G4, then started using it (didn't use it before the memory or the transfer).
Software Update crashes at the point when the download has just started, every time, even with individual small downloads. Other symptoms: Safari crashes upon start-up, any Widgets that look up info crash when they go get data. Firefox works but crashes accessing some video, same with Explorer.
I have manually downloaded and upgraded to OSX 10.4.9. System can't recognize/mount the .dng download file to upgrade to 10.4.10 (I manually downloaded the Combo Intel). Java is 10.4.2, but when I try to install Java 10.4 Release 5, it tells me to upgrade to the previous version first (which is already installed).
I suspect this is a Java and downloading glitch. Does Software Update rely on Java? Any ideas? I've searched the message boards for this problem, but haven't found anyone else with this problem.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thank you for your reply. I used the Setup Assistant to migrate from my G4.
That's probably the cause of your issues. Apparently, the Setup Assitant will sometimes migrate (PowerPC-specific) system files over to Intel-based Macs (causing many odd problems), so using it to migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac isn't recommended.
Unfortunately, you will have to re-install Mac OS X to solve your issues (trying to figure out which specific files are causing the issues will probably be too long, with little chance of success); I don't know whether an Archive & Install is enough to fix this, but perhaps someone else knows? Otherwise you could ask in the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Installation & Setup forum. If you need to do an Erase & Install, you will lose all data on your hard drive, so you'll need to create a backup of all your user files first.

my MAc Book PRO 13" Retina display will not update.  It crashes every time I try to do an update.  I have sent in the information on each update but so far nothing back from Apple.  Also it does not matter what I am trying to update, the operating system, and application, each caused the same crash.   This mac book is less than a month old.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed).  Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

  • After the last update on Mac os 10.9.2 end of April - I

After the last update on Mac os 10.9.2 end of April - I opened Pagemaker and my whole system crashed after talkign with Apple, I had to erase everything on my hard drive.  I finally got it fixed and re-installed pagemaker cs5 and a few other program that I HAD to have while I was on vacation.  When I got home, I tried installing CC and various programs (pagemaker, indesign, photoshop etc. Had to erase all of the other adobe programs and start from scratch.  Every time I open ANY adobe products all of my "white space" is pink and white vertical striped in EVERY program. Apple mail, contacts etc.  If I completely shut down the computer and then restart everything is fine until I open an adobe product again.  I can't seem to get any help out of Adobe, does any one have any suggestions before I cancel my subscription entirely?

  • 2006-004 Mac OS X 10.4.7 update crashed Macbook

Hi, today i was installing the newest 2006-004 Mac OS X 10.4.7 update for my macbook, and it was installing it, and midway it said cannot install, and it told me that it was going to put it in the trash and i quit. after that i started having problems, my safari and firefox kept crashing. I tried restarting but it hanged and crashed. afterward i held down the power button to shut down.
i turned it on again and now stuck in grey apple screen with the spinning dial, i loaded the boot disk in and tried repairing disk and permissions. no help. even safe mode " holding shift key" didn't work. I'm at a loss, all the apple stores "geniuses" can't help me and were booked till tomorrow night.
i need to back up all my pictures and files, which i cannot access, i'm new to mac so i'm not sure what i can do, if i do the install but not erase and install a new copy of osx will it delete and erase all my pics and files? i didn't think of backuping up anything since i've only had this since 5/24 and all my frends with mac's have never had any significant problems with it.
is there anyway i can get in and backup the files? i heard there's a way to access with a firewire cable and another mac?
any help would be greatly appreciated. i didn't think Apple's Own update would mess up my new macbook this bad. any one else had this problem?
    Thanks again

    Same problem.
    DEAD MACBOOK.
I have never been this outraged.
I have owned many, many, macs and never problems like this.
And Apple has the "Nerve" to say things like "Hasta la Vista - VISTA"?
Well, if it werent for my windows xp machine, I would not be able to troubleshoot my mac. Hasta la vista nothing til they get it together.
I even thought about installing osx on my Dell D600 so I could use target mode to save my macbook and what not. But, I just don't think it's right. Not to mention illeagal.
    So,
    SOLUTION : Archive and install.
    Backup, then CLEAN INSTALL.
    Hours, and hours.
I am deathly affraid to update my mac now ever again after this.
I go to wifi hotspots as well because I only have dial-up at home. With the "How to highjack a macbook in 60 sec." article floating all around the internet telling PC users how to take over our macbooks, as soon as apple fixes this, I will be AFRAID to install this fix. Not good.
No more WIFI hotspots for me.
    No more Updates for me.
Maybe, no more apple for me if this keeps up.
Looks like the move to intel wasn't so smooth afterall Mr. Jobs!
Apple is having many many issues like MS has had. Who's the copycat now?
MMMMMMMM. Ubuntu Linux sounding better on my macbook everyday.
