The about menu on a mac

Hey guys,
On a mac running OSX (or maybe any mac) there is a menu for
your application next to the apple icon on the top left of the
screen. How can you edit this? The name for the menu is
appname.osx, I wanna get rid of the osx, and would like to also
have an about button under the menu like most apps do. I'm not even
sure if this is something director handles so sorry if I'm on the
wrong forum, anybody got ideas?

Hi sjp,
maybe that's the MAC way to ensure your LicenseAgreement, that you accepted when using LabVIEW:
A. Deployment and Distribution Requirements.
(1.) You include the following copyright notice "Copyright © [insert year] National Instruments Corporation. All Rights Reserved." in the Authorized Application′s About Box (if applicable) and in (i) any applicable written documentation or, (ii) if no such documentation exists, in a "read me" or other .txt file distributed with each copy of the Authorized Application; (you may instead, or in addition, include your own copyright notice with the notice(s) required above, but in no event may you remove or alter any copyright, patent, trademark, or other legal notices or disclaimers that exist in the SOFTWARE; and, with respect to any runtime engines for the SOFTWARE and any Driver Interface Software that you may include as part of or together with your Authorized Application, your copyright notice shall be understood as protecting NI’s copyrights in the SOFTWARE and shall not be understood as meaning that you have any copyright in or with respect to any SOFTWARE);

  • How can I sort the bookmarks menu? Sorting only works in "organize bookmarks", doesn't apply to the menu.

I want my bookmarks to be listed alphabetically. I can select "sort by name" or "sort A-Z" under the Organize Bookmarks tab, but my choice applies to the Organize Bookmarks list only; when I open my Bookmarks menu, it remains unsorted. How can I apply my sorting preference to the actual Bookmarks list?

The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for displaying the bookmarks in different sorting orders (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.
Right-click a folder to open the context menu and choose "Sort By Name" in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager or in the side bar to sort the bookmarks alphabetically or drag bookmarks to the wanted position. If dragging doesn't work then use Cut and Paste instead.
You may have to close (Firefox> Quit) and restart Firefox to make changes appear in the Bookmarks menu because on Mac that menu is maintained by the OS and not by Firefox.

  • Capacity comparison iTunes versus iPod-about menu

I recently purchased a video iPod. After loading 7.36 GB of music iTunes indicates that I have used 7.36 GB but the "About" menu on the iPod lists both the capacity and available at 27.8 GB. I have reset the iPod but nothing changed.
Any suggestions, ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

Is your iPod up to date? Use the latest iPod Updater to do so. If it is, restoring it may be the only fix.

  • Re: About menu ...

    Brendan,
This is just a guess on my part.
Try removing the 'Task.Part.AppTitle = new();' line. Forte instantiates
the AppTitle attribute for you (it is a TextData). Other objects
(including whatever handles the 'About...' menu) probably keep a seperate
reference to that same TextData object.
When you replace the original AppTitle reference with a new object, other
references are not changed to point to that new object. Thus, whatever
handles the 'About...' menu is probably still displaying the old
AppTitle's value, rather than your new AppTitle.
Removing the first line causes you to update the value of the original
    AppTitle value.
Also, the problem may be related to which partition's AppTitle you are
updating. Since AppTitle is an attribute of the Partition class, changing
it on the server and expecting it to update the 'About...' menu on the
client may not have the desired effect.
Once again, these are guesses on my part. I am not an expert on how the
'About...' menu function. However, I hope this helps.

    Hi,
I'm trying to get the About menu to function correctly on the Macintoshwith a Forte application. I read the workshop manual on the subject and
followed the procedure, but I'm not having any luck.

I've created a Help menu (using Forte's built-in Help menu type) and Ihave the helpAbout command under it. I also put the following code at the
beginning of my display method on my window before the Open() statement:
    >
    Task.Part.AppTitle = new();
    Task.Part.AppTitle.SetValue('SODI');
Will this do it? Or am I missing something? The about menu under theApple menu still says "About Forte..." instead of "About SODI...".

  • How do I Choose About This Mac from the Apple Menu.

I installed Maverick.  Appears to have been a big mistake.  So I went to Phone help and the want my serial number before they will talk to me.  So their site says that I should "Choose About This Mac from the Apple Menu."  I don't know where the Apple Menu is.  Help.

The Apple menu is at the top left hand corner of your screen, click on it and about this Mac is the first choice.
Click twice on Version to get serial number.

  • How to prevent the LabVIEW about dialog from being available from the menu on a MAC built LV app.

I have a LV application that I have built with the application builder for MAC.  When I run this app, the menu has an entry for each menu item I specified along with an entry that matches my applications name.  If I select the entry that matches my app name and then hit about, The about LabVIEW  dialog is displayed.  I have not been able to find a way to either suppress this behavior or redirect it to a VI to display about information related to my application.  Ideally I can just get rid of it since it makes no sense to my customers as to why a LabVIEW dialog would appear when they would expect to get information on my application.
    I am using:
    LabVIEW  2010
    App builder for MAC
    OSX 10.5.8
Thanks in advance for your help.

Just bought a new mac mini, wireless keyboard, and track pad. My track pad will not synch. All advise I have been given is to change items in the setting menu, but I cant because I still have to get through the setup!!

The power button for the Trackpad is on the right hand end of the battery case. Press that button to initiate the pairing process. On the top of the Trackpad just above the power button is a tiny green light (you probably cannot see it unless it is lighted). That light will indicate ehther or not the Trackpad is discoverable. If the Trackpad has discoverable the green light will blink on and off. If it does not pair within 3 minutes you will have to press the power button again to re-initiate the pairing process. Once your Trackpad has paired, you can just leave it on and it will pair automatically when you reboot your Mac.
If you are having problems pairing, try turning off any other Bluetooth devices within 30 or so feet of your Mac mini. That includes other Computers, iPhones, iPads, etc. that may be in the area. Once your Trackpad has pairedwith your mini, you don't have to be concerned about other Bluetooth devices.
One other hint, I find that although the Wireless Trackpad does not eat batteries as fast as the Magic Mouse it still uses more than the Wireless Keyboard. It is a good idea to keep a supply of AA batteries around. I have used Apple's Rechargable batteries, but found they did not last that long before needing to be recharged. I have had the best battery life from Duracell Quantum batteries.

  • I have a Power MAC G5 dual 2ghz that has a peculiar problem.  The monitor will not report until the machine is stopped and started 5 or 6 times.  Once booted it will restart without problem if done so from the apple menu.  Swapped out all hardware

My Power MAC G5 has a peculiar problem.  The monitor fails to report until the machine is started and shut down 5 or 6 times.  Once it has booted it can be restarted without incident from the Apple menu.  I have swapped out all of the hardware.  Monitor, Memmory,Video Card and reset the PRAM.  After resetting the PRAM it booted on the first attempt and I thought it was solved.  But the next day it was back to starting and stopping until the Monitor came on.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  Thanks

It could be a bad PRAM battery corrupting your PRAM.  Typically when I have monitor issues on startup it is a bad PRAM battery.

If you have a digital multimeter you can check the condition of your present battery.  It should read at least 3.2V if it is the 3.6V half-AA battery type.  A new battery provides 3.67 Volts DC. A bad battery provides under 3.2 Volts DC.  Ideally this should be measured while the battery is under load; added recommendation from Hans777:
    >I have recently found out that an exhausted battery will still indicate >3.6 V with a high internal resistance VM.
    >
    >Checking incircuit: powercord disconnected press PMU reset button for >about 5 sec before measuring.
    >
    >Checking outside: load the battery with a 1500 Ohm resistor when measuring.
Alternatively, test the battery while it is still in the computer.
If the battery is more than 5 years old, especially if you totally disconnect the computer from the power regularly, or have left it unplugged for several months at one time, it is likely the battery is dead.
Sometimes you have to do a more intensive reset of hardware management:

Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

I am new to osx. I was wondering why I couldnt find the discrete graphics info in the about this mac window. It simply says intel hd 4000. I was wondering whether or not I need some drivers for it.

I assume you mean under the "Display" tab when you click "About this Mac" > More Info...
This only shows the active graphics card. To see the full specs, open "System Information," either under "Overview" Tab > System Report, or from the Apple Icon in the menu bar by holding down the option key and clicking "System Information." Under hardware > Graphics/Displays

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • Where is the plug in tab option in the upper menu bar when acrobat pro is installed on a mac

where is the plug in tab option in the upper menu bar when acrobat pro is installed on a mac

When Acrobat is installed first, it does not have a Plug-ins menu. When you buy extra plug-ins for Acrobat, some plug-ins will add a Plug-ins menu. Some won't - some will add other menus, or buttons, or something else.
    So
    1. Make sure you have purchased the Mac plug-in(s) you need.
    2. Make sure they are installed.
    3. Make sure they are compatible with your version of Acrobat; the Mac is much less forgiving about versions, you need to check carefully.
    4. If the plug-in is compatible and installed perhaps it doesn't add a plug-ins menu.
