'The account requires encryption which is not supported' after 3.1 upgrade

HELP!
Upgraded to 3.1 and got the following regarding my Exchange email from work:
POLICY REQUIREMENT
The account XXXX requires encryption which is not supported on this iPhone.
(Disable)
Help. What does this mean?
Do I need to go back to 3.0? Why would they change something to 3.1 to not make it work with my Exchange server.
Is there something I need to change or fix on my phone?... really dont want to go back to 3.0 (and don't even know how to)
Help please

Got the same thing.
My guess is there is an indication from the Enterprise Exchange server that data encryption is required, given that corporate suits are so enamored with being paranoid.
WIth 3.0, that indication was ignored, but in 3.1 it is apparently checked, and since the iPhone 3G does not support encryption (3GS does) it fails and the account is disabled.
I will talk to my IT dept. tomorrow, but I don't expect any sympathy. But, I don't really care as it's my phone and the company doesn't pay for it.
If you have a company-issued phone you probably should not update without your IT permission...

iTunes U video files no longer work on my computer since i update to Mavericks. The following message appears on the screen "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed. What should I do to get it fixed? Buy a new MacBook?

Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • ITunes and Quicktime - Movie requires Quicktime which is not supported

    Ok.
Issue is:  Movies and TV shows bought thru iTunes (10.5.1) on Lion (10.7.2) generate an error at time of playback.  Error is 'This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
Help documents state to switch to 32 bit mode (which works).
    Here's what I've found out:
Called Apple, couldn't figure out what the issue is.  Did the standard system/disk checks/repairs/permission repairs to no avail.  Created a new user to download the video to try and play it.. The user was able to stream the video correctly.
I can play the videos IF I access them directly with QuickTime (and it doesn't need the 32 bit flag checked).  So, I copied my library files for iTunes over to the new account and tried again (before doing a file by file comparison of both user accounts) to see if maybe the size of the library I have might be an issue.
Logged into the other account and it now had the issue playing the TV show.
But, I don't consider that a valid test because I should have copied the file into it's existing library before replacing it to check and see if there's an issue with the file in iTune.
which led me to an interesting solution.. If I find the file on the drive (my Library files and all videos are on a NAS server, btw) in Finder then tell iTunes to remove the video from iTunes but not delete the file, I can drag and drop the file back into iTunes and it plays fine.
So, no need to switch to 32 bit mode, just have to delete the video from iTunes (but not the drive) then drag and drop it back into iTunes.
It sounds like, for some systems, something isn't being toggled in the iTunes library or the File when it's added to iTunes via the downloader that allows iTunes to recognize the type of playback version required.  By deleting the reference in the library then manually adding it back in, the issue is bypassed and the videos are playable again.
    I have a headache now...  ;D

Try reinstalling QuickTime Player, You can download it directly from Apple here -> http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If that doesn't work, try reinstalling iTunes which should also reinstall QuickTime Player.

  • This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes.

I know many people are also having this problem and some solved the issue by running the app in 32 bit mode. Unfortunately, when I do that, iTunes warns me that I have to open the application in 64 bits.
For those of you who don't know about the problem, here is the issue. When I try to play a lecture video in iTunes U, application prompts this error message and does not play the video no matter what.
This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes.

Delete the content and download it again. If you've moved the iTunes library to a secondary volume, move it back to your home folder.

  • I just downloaded this movie and I'm being told that it "requires QuickTime, which is not supported"???

I'm attempting to download and play a digital copy from the Jurassic Park Trilogy (for now, only Lost World). I'm able to play the iTunes extras, but attempts to play the actual movie returns the dialog "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
I'm confused as to why a movie I just downloaded from iTunes an hour ago isn't actually compatible with iTunes?!?!? (Yes, it was downloaded from the iTunes store. The Jurassic Park Trilogy provides redemption codes, not an actual file.)
(Its worth saying, the movie plays just fine in QuickTime itself.)

Try restarting your iTunes in 32-bit mode, as per the following document:
iTunes 10.4 for Mac: Older media files may require iTunes to reopen in 32-bit mode

  • This movie requires QuickTime which is not supported ??

Ok. A strange thing just happened.
I just tried to watch a movie trailer on my MacBook Pro, everything is up to date, no visible updates, mavericks OS.
I get the spinning beach-ball for thirty seconds, then a message pops up saying-
"This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes"
What in earth is going on?
    I'd love some help.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. I've just been reading some of the discussions.
All I know is that I didn't buy a mac to have this kind of stupid problem. I'm not going to start deleting things and messing around with files. It's supposed to just work properly.
I mean, I'm using iTunes on a mac, what more do I need to to.
I don't want any elaborate solutions. I want Apple to say, 'Sorry we realise there has been a bit of a hiccup, we're aware and we're fixing it right now. An update and a fix is on it's way'.
So as of this point I can't watch movies on iTunes. I'm pretty sure the millions  Apple will be losing by the day will encourage a quick fix.

My pc has win the operating system view, which does not support lightroom 5. I want to buy version 4?

Thank you, Jim, for your prompt reply. Amazon has it for $151.99, Ebay has a few copies that end up being about as expensive after international shipping and other fees, and I don't trust most of the other sites after reading reviews on them. Looks like I'm going to have to fork out some dollars. How unfortunate.
    Thanks again,

  • How do I get back to FireFox 5. The 7 version will not work with the college's MIS - which does not support version 7, which was downloaded automatically.

The Angel management system used for classes does not support version 7. That's huge.

Old versions of firefox 4,5 & 6 are no longer supported or considered secure. You put your system and your personal data at risk if you use them. Further more if you download from third party sites you face other potential risks or inconveniences.
The recommended official solution is to use Firefox 3.6 which is still supported, and will be 3.6.23, which will upgrade soon to 3.6.24
Another alternative is to use the current secure firefox for all day to day work, and use a separate firefox portable for the problem school site. With luck a firefox portable version will be available with firefox 3.6.23 which is currently the supported version. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#legacy36

Thank you, I think we are close  but this hasn't worked since the instructions per the document call for a selection of File>get into, which does not come up as a "bold" choice and is therefore not accessible, at least on my computer.  It sounds like we are on the right track but I am not able to follow the instructions since the choices, as outlined in the article, are not chosable on my menu.  Not sure what the problem is?

I keep getting this message when trying to watch TV or films
This content requires Adobe Flash Player, which is not supported by your device
Is there an app that will play this. I can't find one....

Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news and media sites, have their own apps in the App Store.

I hate this bold 9700 series 2 no carrier and find it to be a pathetic product backed up by even more pathetic support so I have decided to use it as a torch. There is an app for this but it requires app world first. Are you trying to say that I MUST have a carrier and they will resolve this issue but otherwise RIM cannot do anything about their own product?
Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
We are so sorry that you are having so many difficulties. While many experience the same (a search here will reveal that fact), there are also many who have very positive experiences with their BB. Not every device is suitable for everyone -- which IMHO is why there are so many choices.
In addition, but for AppWorld, front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.
As to AppWorld Support (beyond what we volunteer to provide in these forums), that is available via this portal:
    https://www.blackberry.com/CSOHelp/index.do?ft=generic
If you choose to submit to them in this manner, then please use, in the "Please select a component:" field, the AppWorld Billing/Payment selection. Any other selection will simply route you back anonymously to these public forums.
As to your question, RIM and the carriers both participate in AppWorld. My suspicion is that the carriers get a portion of the costs for the apps that are vended via AppWorld -- but that's just my suspicion. Hence, the use of AppWorld indeed requires a carrier (and, indeed, the proper data plan level from them).
But, AppWorld is merely a portal, vending apps that are (for the most part) developed by others. As such, it is not the only portal in the world for BB apps. There are a few, I think, apps that are exclusively vended via AppWorld...but I think that number is rather small. Consequently, if you desire an app that will allow your BB to function as you desire, you should seek out alternative vending portals. There are plenty.
    Good luck!
