The additional 12V - 4pin power connector

Basically, I just have two simple questions:
1.) What is the above additional power connector for? (accoring to the voltage it should drive the CPU's cooling fan - am I right?)
2.) Will the GF4 MX440 8TX run if I do not have such a connector on my motherboard?
Can anybody help with that?

it feeds 12v direct to cpu and it will not be stable without it
the gf4 means you need a good combined wattage
look for over 200 on a psu and 28a 3.3 v not 14

  • The Pci-e 16x power connector? necessary?

On the 975x Platinum their is a 4pin power connector on the logic-board next to the PCI-e slot... the manual says its required for proper pci-express 16x function...
Is this necessary? My Quadro FX 3450 already requires its own POWER.
It almost seems like My card runs faster with that power connector unplugged.... BTW, any idea about how much watts or frequency this thing should run @?

what if it isn't sufficient? If i take my extra molex out of the board, and boot, and my x1900xtx doesn't get enough power.. will anything break?
No, but why would you wish too? You have ATI based and questions are for Nvidia based.........

  • 12v ATX Power Connector

Ive just modded my new power supply to fit my bespoke case, but the ATX 12v power connector(4pin) has a fault.
when connected it causes nasty noices through the speaker system like its got a break in the wires from the PSU to the connector on the board.
    The question is......
I havent got it connect at the mo, the pc is running ok so do i need to use it??????

    the 20 pin atx has 5x 5v feeds but only 1x 12v
this is because in the past 5v feed the vga card and the cpu
now modern vga cards lie yours feed of the 12v as does the cpu
now a pin on the atx moules i rated to 6a max giving 72 watts max
many amd cpu pull that on their own
this is why these and other boards have the extra 2x 12v feeds

  • Z87 XPower -- What's the third 6-pin power connector for?

I'm a happy new owner of a Z87 XPower, currently getting it installed and I'm seeing a six-pin power connector between the CPU and PCI-E slots (this is in addition to the two 8-power traditional motherboard power connectors).  I'm assuming it's a PCI-E power connector but can't find any documentation about whether it's required or optional or under what circumstances I would use it.  Is there any documentation out there about this power connector?  It's in a bit of a problematic area as far as cable routing goes, it's next to the rear end of the expansion slots which is as far away from cable management routes as you can get and requires routing a connection over at least third of the motherboard no matter how you run it.

that 6 pin is only needed if your running 2 or more graphics cards to supply extra power to the PCI-E lanes as its draw will exceed the limits that they have causing instability!
it is an optional connector and if you only have 1 graphics card its not needed at all (I usually connect it anyway if I plan on going SLI or crossfire in he future!)

  • KT880 delta 12v power connector

I just purchased a Kt880 delta and see that it has a 12v cpu power connector which my atx power supply does not have.   do I need this connector?.  The msi web site says it is used for p4's.

Yes, a new PSU is in order. The KT880 board relies heavily upon the 12V and 3.3V, while (like many newer boards) largely ignoring the 5V.
As mentioned previously, avoid cheap PSU's, as they cannot always deliver the power needed for modern systems. Many cheap PSU's use a high amp rating on the 5V rail, to claim they have a PSU that can deliver more juice, but they simply cannot run a newer system.

  • K7T Turbo2 power connector JPW1

K7T Turbo 2 power question. I’m unsure about the use of power connector JPW1, the 4-pin Molex ATX 12v connector (additional voltage for the CPU). I’ll be using an Athlon XP 1700+ and a 300W power supply with out the Intel P4 updated compliance that calls for the additional 4-pin 12v  :] Molex connector. My questions are:
    1. Is the additional 12v (JPW1 connector) plugged in to an ATX 12V PSU required for an Athlon XP 1700+ or can I leave it unplugged?
    2. Can I use a P4 adapter ATX cable for this purpose  :]  without problems rather than replacing my current PSU?

Ok im a newbbie, quick question,  I have a KT7 Turbo2 also, with a Durhon 1100 overclocked only to 1210, a 16x LG writer, a few fans and HD cooler, a 40gb Quantum Fireball AS PLUS HD.. nic card, and a Gforce 2 23mb DDR creative card.. my power supply is a generic 330 watt with the JPW1 connector and since the Mobo has a JPW1 connector on it, should I use it, I do a lot of downloading (i mean lots, like it never stops, my computer downs gigs of data 24/7 (server) ).. and im buring 24/7 also.. should I use it, what is the advantages.. ????  please let me know thanks
    Thanks )

  • HPE-210f, one 4-pin ATX power connector support USB card ?

For my Pavilion Elite HPE-210f, Product # BK169AA#ABA, HP support, Motherboard Specifications, H-RS880-uATX (Aloe), shows my PC as offering "one 4-pin ATX power connector."
Does that "ATX power connector" meet the requirement for a "5V 4 pin connector" to power a USB 3.0, 4-port, PCI-E Express Card that I wish to install?  With no free PCI Express x16 slot, I can't mount a GigaBit Ethernet card, so the USB 3 card seems helpful, apparently faster anyway, for connecting to the SS-USB port on my Gigabit switch.
How do we decode/understand the P-codes (ergo, P3, P5, I think I recall) on the power connectors on cables from the power supply?
Also, the PC board specs promise "Three PCI-Express x1 (Gen 2.0)," and "One PCI Express x1 minicard socket (Gen 2.0)."  I cannot identify the minicard socket, but I do see three identical PCI-Express x1slots, with only one occupied, so the slot requirement looks fulfilled.
Power cable OK?  Comments, advice? Thanks!

No, the 4-pin ATX power connector is for the motherboard.  If you have a link to the USB card, send it. Some use a 4 pin peripheral (molex) , some use a 15 pin Sata power lead.
I am sending this link. It explains all the various connectors of the typical PSU.

  • MPower Z87 Power connectors

Recently put together a new PC build using a MSI MPower z87, but my power supply (BFG 1250watt - modular) only had one lead for the 8pin power connection for the board.  I tried to use a different connector that the power supply had plenty of, a 6pin + 2 pin that was the same size and shape with the +2 connected, but when I attempted to power on, the thinner wire to the +2 portion melted.  Did this hurt the board? and Is it safe to run the board with only one of the two 8 pin power connectors connected?  (JPWR1 and JPWR2) I do have the larger JPWR3 connected (the one above the SATA connectors).
I'm guessing I'll need to get a new power supply, the BFG one I have is a bit old, from a 2009 build, which may be why it only has one ATX 8pin connector.  Can anyone recommend a power supply that defiantly has 2 (or more) 8 pin ATX power connectors?
    Thanks

that may have fried the board as a 8 pin CPU power connector has different pins (a live and a ground on the side) but a 8 pin PCI-E power connector has 2 grounds there so you may have blown something on the board or damaged the PSU itself if your unlucky!
try with just one 8pin CPU power connector and and hope to hell you haven't blown something and you lucked out there and haven't damage something (It only needs one unless your using LN2 cooling and doing massive overclocks and huge over voltage's to push the CPU way above its design limits)!
also if you have damaged something and its broke your in a bad position here as you will have voided the warranty as its classed as user error because you made the mistake of convecting that!

  • Does anyone connect the ATX 12V power connector?

Does anyone connect there power connector to the ATX 12V connector? The 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU, or is that what the 20-pin connecter is for? The 12V connecter is usually next to the socket and has 4 pins. thx for the help  8)

  • Doubt with JPW1 (+12v 4pin) Connector on MSI p6n sli

Hi, i've one question, i've this psu:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339001&Tpk=hec%2borion
It's Type ATX12V 2.01, so it's have the Main Connector 20+4Pin and only one conccetor of +12v of 4 pin.
And this motherboard need 2 +12v 4 pin connectors. On the manual, that connectors are calledd JPW1.
Know, my question is, Did the motherboard will run with only one 4pin connector?
    I've this components:
    MSI 7900GS 450-1320 @ 700-1680
    E2140 @ 3GHZ (I want more than that, 3.2ghz at least )
    2x1gb OCZ @ 900 4-3-3-8-2t
    1x 160gb Sata2
    1x DVDrw
And probabaly on 4-6 months one dualcore or maybe quad 45nm processor.
With the actual configurartion, could i'make high Overclock on the proccesor without any problems ?
    Thanks
And here a picture, how you can see, only one 4pin connector, not two:

The reason to use 8-Pins instead of 4 is not to provide more power to the CPU, but to double the current carrying capacity of the the connection.  This reduces heat generation as the same current will be carried by twice the number of pins.  The effect is that the risk of overheating/melting of the connector is reduced. Basically, it is a safety measure.
The bottom line is, that the chance that your connector will melt is not very significant (even with a Quad Core processor). Unless you plan to overclock the hell out of that CPU in a poorly cooled case, you shouldn't have to worry about four more pins.
REALLY THANKS!!! and thanks for answer so fast
Now, i dont have any doubt with the motherboard and the psu. Now i cant overclock without fear.
I've a TT bigtyp lapped, more AS Ceramique, and the case its good cooled, so it wont be a problem.
    REALLY THANKS JACK

  • Computer won't power up if the 2x2 CPU POWER connector is plugged in

Yesterday I assembled this computer and it was working great. Played games on it and everything.
    MSI K9a2 CF, ATHLON 5000+, LC POWER 550W, RADEON 3850 256MB, 2x1G SUPER TALENT 800MHZ RAM.
3 hours ago I went to the store and left 2x PRIME95 torture test running just to check for stability. After  2hours I got home only to find out the the computer has been shut down but the KEYBOARD still had a light on the NUMLOCK led.
So then I unplugged the PSU from power and started up again. But the PC only started for half a second and then the power went off.
So I pulled everything out of the board only to find out that if the CPU POWER 2x2 connector is in the board then it will not power up. Then I also took out the cpu and try to power up without the CPU and  with the CPU POWER 2x2 connector in and it also doesn't power up.
    Conclusion:
If the 2x2 CPU power connector is in the MB regardless if the CPU is in or not then the computer will not power on. But if the 2x2 CPU power connector is absent then the computer powers up. But that don't do me any good since without that connector the CPU can't function.
I also tried hooking it up to another PSU but it does no good. The MB, CPU, GPU, RAM, HDDS are only 2days old.
Also it couldn't have overheated since the temperatures never went higher than 50C during full load thx to Scythe Ninja Revision B cooler and also there is no smell or any indication that something could be burned. The temps were checked with BIOS as with MSI probe.
My question is is the MB the problem?? So I would know which part to send back for warranty

Do you use system stock parameters?(No OC)
    Check CPU cooling system.
List PSU details(Look over PSU sticker for them)
Everything was at stock speed there was even no tweaking involved.
CPU cooling system was working great. Under load the max temperatures it had gotten was 50C. And also the CASE was opened so there was no chance of overheating. And also when I started PRIME95 I opened the window and closed the radiators which means the room temperature was about 15C celsium only.
    LC POWER 550w 140MM fan.
    3.3v 35a
    5v    40a
    12V  16a
    12v   18a
It is probably the board right? I must know this quick to RMA it

  • Can I get an additional power connector for a HD inside my MacPro?

    Hello,
I have a MacPro Early 2009 with all HD bays full and both optical drives full. I have a Apricorn Velocity Solo x2 with 512 GB SATA III SSD and the card has an additional SATA port for my additional 2TB HD SATA III that I would like to make into a Fusion Like Drive. My question is: Is there any way to get power to that 2TB HD? Please let me know and if you have the cable I would need to purchase. Thank You,
    John

Not true. There are SATA connectors that carry both data and power. There are motherboards that use separate power and data cables for SATA drives. Your question stated:
Please let me know and if you have the cable I would need to purchase.
This clearly is a request for someone here to see if there is a cable we could sell to you. That would imply you are asking Apple the question. It's not my fault that you were not clear in what you asked.
Nevertheless, my response is just as applicable to one form of cable as to another. If you have no available power connection in the computer, then you need to split one that you are currently using. This could either be the SATA power connector or it could be a Molex power connector as used on older SCSI or ATA drives.

  • KT2 COMBO, Is 12v power Connector Needed?

Just Bought a "KT2 COMBO" to upgrade mi good old 6330 lite, and add some 2100 DDR Ram, and a new xp processor ( 2000+ ).
The problem is I'm using the same case, and the power supply in it has no 12 V ATX Power connector.
In the Quick User Guide, it refers to it (p 2-9), saying it's to provide power to the CPU.
Would the system work ok if I use only the main power connector?
Has anyone tried using it this way?

If you don't have stability problems it's probably fine.
You can buy an adapter to allow you to convert a mulex ( like you plug into an HDD ) to the 4 pin 12V plug.
If you don't have one you might try looking in local shops for butn out PSUs that have them, cut the wire and solder it to your PSU's output ( yellow to yellow, black to black )

  • K7T Turbo2 12v power connector

I connected the 4 pin (jpw1) 12v power connector on my mobo to my 250 watt PS and the video dropped out.  If I disconnect the 4 pin connector, it works.  Should this be connected?  If not, why is it there?

That connector is used to supply extra power to the cpu.  If the system works fine without it being connected, no need to connect it IMHO.
