The after Cropping Look...

Hi
After I crop a picture (jpeg), I noticed the area that was saved in the crop appears bigger, like it was blown up a little. Is that what truly happened or is it just the way to it looks on my pc monitor?
Another question: I am a beginner and work mainly with jpeg format. I've read a lot about changing the format of a file after it has been edited? Why do this and what would I change it to and why?

Be careful when you use that Crop tool. If you have a resolution typed in the box in the Option Bar, it can resample the image during the crop. That may or may not be what you want to have happen. I add this cautionary note because you say you're new to all of this. There have been people who have accidentally lost valuable image data this way. :(
You don't say which version of PSE you're using nor do you say whether or not you use the Organizer. If you do, then it should automatically save a copy of your unretouched/unedited JPEG. If you don't use Organizer, make sure you archive all of your originals someplace on your hard drive so you can go back and access a "fresh" copy later on if you want to.

Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem. As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS. I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock. Thanks again for trying.

I am not able to use Magic Bullet Looks with the After Effects trial

I am having troubles with downloading a trial. I am currently trying to find ways to edit videos using Magic Bullet Looks. I have found many ways, but when I go to download the Magic Bullet looks, it says After Effects cs6. For some reason it does not install even though I have the trial version of After Effects. So when I open After Effects, and go to the effects tab, it does not show up. I have looked on tutorials and many other ways.

How long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping?

Is there any time limit for how long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping? Are you always able to revert back?

DAM = "Digital Asset Manager", a fancy name for a filing system.
iPhoto keeps the original and makes one (usually much smaller) copy based on your edits. It is non-destructive in that if you crop, and later change the color, iPhoto will go back to the original and apply the corrections to get the new image, it will not simply modify the preview.
If you want a high quality copy of the image, use the export function which allows you to specify the size and compression.

Jpegs look blurry after crop at fit to screen but are fine at 50%... Why?

I recently upgraded to CS4 and have system 10.6.2. Jpegs appear blurry after cropping at fit to screen but are fine at 16%, 50% or 100%... My CS2 version never did this. Anyone know how to fix this bug?

Your resolution (in the pic) is likely set to 72PPI. In smaller JPGs when they are enlarged to full screen, they will appear pixelated or blurry.
Before cropping, try setting the PPI to 300.
I had to do this when making PNGs for conversion to icons, because they would blur when converted. I set almost everything I do to 300PPI.

How to make a crop looks like a camera zoom?

If I crop a part of a video and want to make the crop looks like a camera zoom... is there a "zoom transition" to put before and after the crop part? Million thanks if someone can solve this technical question...

Let's zoom in.
Select the clip and move the playhead to where you want the zoom to start in the timeline.
Activate the Crop function Shift-C and selec the middle crop function in the top left.
Press the keyframe button.
Move the playhead to where you want the zoom to end.
Crop and reposition the selection as you like in the viewer.
Click Done.

Photoshop (cc) crop tool overly sharpens image after crop??

I have just noticed something really interesting and quite annoying about the photoshop cc crop tool.
It seems to slightly over sharpen an image after cropping. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable this?
I did the same crop with the same image in CS4 and looks fine. It's pretty nasty and makes images look very digital.
Has anyone else noticed this?

This might have to do with a change that was made to the default resizing technique in Photoshop between CS4 and now.
Try this: Open the Preferences dialog box, and in the General panel, change Image Interpolation to "Bicubic (best for smooth gradients)". Then run the same preset.
If that change makes a Crop tool resize work like it did in CS4, then the reason you saw a change is because in more recent versions of Photoshop the default technique for resampling was changed to "Bicubic Automatic" which tries to pick the right algorithm based on whether you're resampling up or down. It applies to resizing in general (for example, transformations), and you're seeing it because a crop resulted in resampling.
You can test various settings there to see which one is best for your work.

How to get added columns in the after DDL trigger?

As title, I want to get information, like name/type/.., about the added columns by sql statement "alter table *** add (***)" in the after ddl trigger. But looks like dba_tab_columns view doesn't include the added columns.

but all versions continue to insert only the already existing columns. I think that Oracle actualize the dictionary first after this system event.

Is there a workaround for the transform/crop bug?

Does anyone know a way to get around this bug?
- I have two video clips.
- One video clip (on top) is a talking head that need to be placed in a box on the other clip.
- Apply transform to talking head clip. Scale and change position.
- Apply crop to talking head clip. Bring in left and right so image fits in the box.
Everything is good so far...
- Apply same transform and crop to other talking head clips in same project.
- Crop fails terribly for second and all subsequent attempts. It seems like there is a magic area for which the clip cannot render.
The first transform/crop works fine...
All subsequent transform/crops, either mannually applied or from copied attributes, do this: (The collection of icons are inside the box and is showing through from the bottom clip.)
If I drag the image around the screen, there seems to be a "magic area." If the image is in the magic area, everything is fine. If the image approached any edge of the screen, the bad crop effect happens. Here I have dragged the transform near the bottom left corner of the screen:
I have played with crop settings and the way the crop jumps, there seems to be some kind of logic bug in the cropping code, particularly with transform/crop combinations. Any help would be appreciated! This bug is a show-stopper, and I'm on a fairly tight schedule. Does anyone know of a way to get around this bug?

I also tried your 'special' method, to crop/transform the main storyline (=what I wouldn't do) ... but the attached other clips appear without problems:

I have looked at all of my settings both in Bridge and CS6 Photoshop regarding Camera Raw. I am at a loss how to set the crop tool in cm or inches as I once did - now the only option is to crop using ratios of 1:1 etc etc - This is infuriating as lots of my square crops I could set at 10" x 10'' specifically to print one to one to fit frame and mount size -
Now if cropping using bloody aspect ratio of 1:1 (square) the actual dims of the crop are roughly 4.25 inches x 4.25 inches. this means I then have to open the whole image in photoshop in order to crop at the dims I have set! It was so much quicker in terms of batch cropping in camera raw being able to set dims in centimetres and inches but they have gone and mucked around with it, with the new bloody update! Unless you are an absolute genius and know how I can go back to having an option of CM, Inches and aspect ratio within the custom crop settings? (Please say you do)

Reducing file size after cropping in Pro X ?

I have just upgraded from 8.3 to 10.1. I use Acrobat solely to scan old material for putting on the web. As people that have made this switch know, the program is very different! And much simplier and better for my tasks. In 8.3 I optimized the size after cropping, and that discarded what I cropped. In 10.1 the optimization is taking place with the scan. Then I crop. How do I then delete from the file what I cropped out? If I optimize again it questions why I am doing it, and the image quality degrades.

Go into the importing tab, and set the options to Mp3 at a lower bitrate, then go to your song and choose Convert to Mp3 - it will then create another copy at a lower bitrate - leaving the high quality original - you can then burn the smaller one to your CD - it shouldn't take long to convert.
