The Air with Pro Applications

Does anyone use (or plan to use) their MacBook Air with pro applications like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion 4, Adobe Photoshop, etc.?
I love the form factor of these, but don't know if they could handle the serious programs well.

I've been thinking about this too. I think realistically the "Express" apps are about as far as you could go on this machine with decent performance. The video card is the same as the MBP 13" but with that processor I can't see it being able to handle the workload. Then again I've got friends running Hackintoshs on Lenovo netbooks using After Effects (insane as that sounds) so who knows? I also wonder how much the performance of the flash storage will offset the processor performance, if it all. I think for the most part the new Air's are a little higher-end general purpose machines.

If the charging plug fits, use it.

  • What notebook is better the air or pro

i have a mac i am going to get another computer with notebook is better the air or pro.

As AnaMusic says - the one that suits your needs best is 'better'.
That said, you should be looking at two things: the extreme portability of the Airs and the more powerful processing power of the Pros. If lightness and portability are your main needs, go with the Air. If you want a machine with more raw power and still some portability, go with the Pro.
And as AnaMusic also says, it's best to take a look at the machines side-by-side before making a purchasing decision. Run a processor intensive app (any of the Apple Pro apps, or even Photoshop) on both machines and if the Pro is faster - and if you want fast - go with the Pro. If the Pro just seems too heavy for you, go with the Air.
In the end, it's your decision to make - power versus portability.
    Good luck,

  • Is the Mountain Lion full compatible with the Final with Pro?

I will like to upgrade from Snow leopard 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion. Is the Mountain Lion full compatible with the Final with Pro?

OS X Mountain Lion is compatible with Final Cut Pro X and Final Cut Pro 7 updated to the most recent version. If you want to check that your applications are compatible, see > http://www.roaringapps.com
Make a backup of your data before upgrading in case that Final Cut doesn't work under Mountain Lion

  • The final cut pro application is GIANT 143.9 GB

    Hi Folks,
I've set up a new MacPro QuadCore as an edit station, and I'm having some difficulty getting the Caldigit HD one to work with it. I'm still working with Caldigit on that.
Likely as a side effect of the machine hanging mid render several times due to the raid array going offline bad things are beginning to happen.
All capture / render / autosave files are set to the array, as are project files, so essentially nothing significant is being written to the boot drive.
However my boot drive filled up for no known reason, and when digging through with drive genius I noticed that the final cut pro application itself is now listed as 143.9 G.
    Ahhh OK.
Do I have to flatten and reinstall or is there a simpler solution.
How in the world did the app itself get that big?
BTW DiskWarrior etc. report the hardware of the boot drive to be fine, the directory structure and permission to be good.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It has happened before that when the scratch disk does a disappearing act, FCP will sometimes stuff renders inside the FCP program container.
In the Applications folder, Right click on FCP and go to SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS. Once inside, start looking around for very large .mov files.
    You can safely delete them.

  • Is the final cut pro application too large for my 13" mac pro or should I install it on an external drive?

Is the final cut pro application too large for my mac book pro laptop? Should I install it on a hard drive?

4 GB hard drive!?!  It's a memory size not hard drive size   Your hard drive is much bigger than 4 GB . If you have 2011 model then hard drive size is 500GB or 750 GB HDD. You can install final cut pro and many other programs .

  • First Macbook: Should I get the Air or Pro Retina?

I just got accepted to graduate school and wanted to splurge on a new laptop as I have had my Asus laptop for over 6 years and it is PAINFULLY slow.
I will be using it for school but here is my thing:
I dont want to invest in something that is not going to last my 3 years of graduate school.
I thought I was set on buying the Air but then I started to see articles saying the Air is at the end of its time. What do you guys think? Air or Pro Retina? I am completely new to Apple (besides having an iPad) and would like your input!!!

Whether whatever you buy will last you 3 years is going to be largely dependent on what you intend to do with it and how much you want to spend.
The MBP can be substantially more powerful than a MBA. It's also to beef up a MBA to the point that it is more powerful than the low end of the MBP line.
The first question is, what do you need to do? What kind of work? Do you need to run specialized applications? Will you be doing work that involves a lot of heavy lifting? Video editing, heavy photo editing, etc? If not, then the power of one over the other starts to become less of an issue.
How portable do you need it to be? An 11" MBA comes in at just about 2.3 pounds. The 13" is 2.9 pounds. The new MacBook will weigh in at just 2 Pounds.
Do you need (or want) a Retina display? For some, that's a deal breaker. The display on the MBA is good for what it is. I have one. Just bought it in fact. It's a good display. Is it drop dead gorgeous, like a retina display? No, but I don't need that. I was willing to make the trade off to save money and weight.
If you'll be doing standard 'office' type stuff.... MS Office or similar for writing papers, Web for research, email, etc, then any of them would be just fine. The processor in the new MB isn't quite as bad as the early nay-sayers would seem to indicate. Performance tests were largely run on a design from another manufacturer that was defective out of the gate. I believe Apple won't have that problem.
The issue with the new MB (for me) is price. I was able to get a refurbished 11" 2014 MBA for $679. That's almost half the price of the new MB. Don't overlook the deals to be had in the refurb store!

  • I can't sync contacts thru the air with iCloud.  Why?

I unchecked syncing calanders, contacts, etc on iTunes because the pull down dialog said I may get duplicates.  It says I am syncing thru the air using iCloud.  But it's not working.  My question is why?

To copy the contacts from your external accounts to iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contests to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from the external accounts) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap each of your external accounts and turn off contacts syncing (otherwise you will see duplicate contacts on your phone).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the external accounts back to your phone, and to iCloud.  They should all be in iCloud now, and you will no longer be syncing them with your external accounts.

  • Outlook 2010 won't sync over the air with my iPhone 4s

I got my iphone 4s at the same time that my work switched to Outlook 2010.  Now I can only sync calendars manually and not automatically over the air as I enter appointments.  Plus, only appointments entered on the PC will sync with the phone - appointments entered on the phone won't sync with my work calendar at all. What's going on???  I don't know if it's a phone issue or an Outlook 2010 issue, since both changed at the same time. I did notice that new appointments typed on my phone are a different color than those entered on my PC, if that matters at all (it may just be a new feature of ios5).

I wish an Ipad. Is it possible to work on the screen with 2 files toghether (ex: 2 Pages files in the same screen view) ?
I need to make some transalations and so it's important for me to have the english text and the italian version that I am making, on the same screen view.
    Thank You.

No. You cannot work on two Pages files in the same window. It is not possible to have multiple windows on the screen at the same time in iOS.

  • Why are the interfaces of PRO APPLICATIONS different, Why not fixed in FCS3

From someone who has been working on macs since 1984, and making my living as a video producer/editor since 1991 using mac:
Back in the first two decades of Apple's existence, all apps had "Universal Tools & Interfaces". An arrow, a crosshair, a timeline.... You get the picture. LiveType, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Logic, WaveBurner, and DVD Studio ALL have different looking and acting tools and timelines. This unnecessary mess of differing type tools and interfaces goes against the one thing that makes Macs Macs.
My limited mind can only store so much. It can hold LT, FCP, and Logic interfaces, norms, key commands, timeline behaviors. I don't have any more mind space for yet another app's. I got completely confused in SoundTrack today.... Oh that's the fourth App I had to use.... I got an error message "There's not enough brain matter to continue, you can cry, spend an hour re-learning, or just edit the 15 tracks of audio in FCP"
I can't believe it's just me who feels this way. They sell us suite of products, all with differing interfaces and key based tools. You would have thought by this third version they'd make A = pointer or B= Blade or 0 = Rewind in at least two apps.... I hope someone at Apple is trying to fix this horrible situation. I can only hope.... I hope they will still "support" LiveType in the Next Upgrade or I'll freak out.
Someone tell me why they are still all different, please?

Buying all the software (except Motion) from other companies results in what you see in Studio. They did this because it was their interest to do so. Apple bought FCP, originally written for PC's, in what amounted to a fire sale for example.
Would you spend the money (and we're talking a LOT of money) to make them all share a similar UI if you didn't have to? It can be argued that corporate law in this country dictates that Apple cannot spend that dough. How about that notion? LOL...
True, it's tougher to learn Studio because of the different UI's each app has. Development of that might happen as they rewrite all the code. However the cost of doing that in any app at one time is high enough that I can understand why it remains the way it is.
Further, Apple has been and will continue to sell the software anyway, as most users believe it's superior to it's direct competitors in power, stability and in value. Apple won the NLE the unit sales wars a long time ago in any event. Since the market is saturated with FCS users apparently loath to learn (poor souls) a new app, let alone a new suite, there is even less incentive for Apple to spend the dough to do what you'd like to see.
As mentioned above, you can give feedback to Apple. The development teams do read that feedback. I've met some of the folks who cull it inside Apple in fact.

  • Calling ABAP Web Service on the system with two application servers

    Hello all,
I try to figure out, how to setup a web service in the TC WSCONFIG in the multi application server environment.
Basically the requirement is that when WSClient calls my WS, it should not care about accessibility of one or another application server. In other words the WS's URI should contain the IP/domain name of "SAP Web Dispatcher" or other component, which handles the loadbalancing.
I think it could be done in ICM within WSCONFIG transaction, but I'm completely lost inside the setup. Also I was not able to find proper helpsap page with the description.
Is there a WEBLOG or any other document how to setup this ?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Regards
    Tom

    Hello,
You do not have anything to do in SAP transactions.
The HTTP load balancing is the SAP Web dispatcher job.
Just install and configure the web dispatcher. Follow HELP.SAP.COM, it is well explained.
We use this config to load balance 200 000 web servce calls/day on 5 abap application servers.
    Regards,
    Olivier

  • Can't open documents on the Desktop with apple applications

Came across this while using automator and now realize that it is a problem with Numbers, Pages and probably all Apple Apps.
With Automator I get the eternal spinning wheel whenever I try to open a workflow which is located on the Desktop.   Works OK with other locations.    Also, whenever I use the "Get Specified File" command in automator and try to add the file location I get the spinning wheel.  The desktop is the default location when I do this and can not change it.   Other Automator commands work ok.
I have come to realize that this is also true with Pages and Numbers.  That is any document that is on the desktop will not open from the Pages/Numbers application.  The selection page freezes and have to force quit.    However, the document will open directly from the Desktop (i.e. selecting it on desktop and double clicking.).     Also, documents open ok from any other location.
Have run disk permission and deleted cache files associated with Automator with no change.     Everything else works perfectly on the Mac, running Mavericks 10.9.1.
    I'd appreciate any ideas.   Thanks

Problem cleared after deleting below Libarary files:
    com.apple.automator.LSSHAREDFILELIST 9.15.09 PM.plist
    com.apple.finder 9.15.29 PM.list
    com.apple.finder.plist
