The AirPlay device "Apple TV" cannot be found on your network.

"The AirPlay device “Apple TV” cannot be found on your network. Please verify your network settings and AirPlay configuration or select another device."
I have been struggling to play radio from my iTunes to my Apple TV for more than 1-2 minutes at a time over the last two hours. I've updated both the Apple TV and iTunes to the latest software. I've also 'restarted' Apple TV from the General menu. I've unplugged and replugged the Apple TV several times, and I've also rebooted my MBP several times. Sometimes, after resetting Apple TV, I'm able to play radio from my iTunes, but then it stops working a few minutes later. I'm able to play the radio on my iTunes, but when I try to connect to Apple TV, I get the above error message again, even though the signal strength of the wifi is at full strength, according to Apple TV Settings.
I have a MBP 10.6.8 and a 3rd generation Apple TV. I am feeling very frustrated. What should I do? I feel like I've done everything?

By the way, I've reboot the Apple TV, had music play for 1 minute, and then Apple TV stop working on me at least one dozen times today.
I've also had to Force Quit iTunes (which appears unresponsive) after Apple TV stops playing the music being sent from iTunes.
I get the above error message whenever I don't reboot Apple TV...but then when I do reboot it, it stops working 2 minutes later....
F%&$* THIS!! This is making me never want to invest in Apple products again.

  • The Airplay Device "Airport Express Y" cannot be found on your network

I keep getting this iTunes error. I have a couple of sets of speakers each connected to a seperate Airport Express N (1G) which I will refer to as Airport X and Airport Y. The error always specifies the problem is with my Airport Y. When this error occurs iTunes switches from my AirPlay multiple speaker setup to the default single Computer speaker connection. The only way to resolve this is to go into iTunes and switch the AirPlay speakers 'back on'.
Both of my Airport Express have the latest firmware 7.6.3. They are connected wirelessly to an Airport Extreme Base Station which is also 7.6.3. AirPlay is enabled on all devices. The Airport Express are connected to my network as "extend this network".
The configuration all looks ok. The only thing that differs about the Airport Express is that I bought the Y device on eBay, but other than this issue everything about it seems to be fine.

The AirAirPort Express and AirPlay.   Trying to set up streaming to one of two airport airport express within my network within iTunes.  I keep receiving the following error message on just one unit "The AirPlay device “XXXXX” cannot be found on your network. Please verify your network settings and AirPlay configuration or select another device."
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
iMac with 3.4GHZ Intel core i7, Memory 16GB
    Running OSX 10.9.5
    Airport utility 6.3.2
Within Airport Utility I can see and program this unit and i checked to ensure that Airplay was checked.  Did not see anything in the forums about this type of issue.
    Please advise.

  • An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (-15000).

    Hi ,
I acquired an Apple TV (Gen3) a couple of days ago.
The Apple TV seems to be connected properly to WIFI (Good signal)
I watched streaming videos on Youtube and film trailers – the speed is ok.
I followed the protocol but, still, I cannot connect Itunes to the Apple tv.
    These are the error messages:
On the TV : apple tv could not connect to library
In Itunes: An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (-15000).
Please note that Apple TV doesn’t appear in the list of devices in Itune’s preferences menu.
The Home Share is enabled on both devices and I connected with the Same Apple ID on each device.
    Airplay is on.
    Ref Apple TV :
    Apple tv: Model MD199HC/A
    Serial number DY******RHN
    apple tv software : 5.3(6105)
    Imac: OS X version 10.8.4
    I already tried to :
    Unplug/plug modem and router
    Test connectivity
    Disable the Firewall
Re-enable the firewall with Itunes in the list of ‘allowed’ devices
Re-set Apple TV (3 times) + Up to date
Re-start Apple TV and computer several time
    Itunes is up to date
    Could you please help?
    Many Thanks

    Hi all,
    Thanks for your comments.
In my knowledge, there isn't any security software active on my computer.
After re-setting my routeur several times, I finally swapped it against an Airport Time Capsule.
It solved the problem, however, I would be interested to know if a (less expensive) solution exists.

An error occurred (-6722) while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”

An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”.

I had the same issue, started getting the error after my Airport Express had been working perfectly for over two years.
On another post in this site, someone advised disabling IPv6.
    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> Configure IPv6 to OFF
This instantly fixed the streaming for me. Not sure why or if it will work for AppleTV.
    Hope this helps.

  • An error occurred (-42086) while connecting to the AirPlay device "Apple TV"

I have 2013 Macbook air and recently while I'm streaming content to my apple tv, it kicks me off and displays (An error occurred (-42086) while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”) on my mac. Anyone know how to fix this? Streaming to the apple tv has worked fine up until now.

    OSX: 10.8.5
    Mac Air, 8GB, 1.7GHz, i7
This problem has resurfaced; this thread has no solution.
My symptoms: the 42086 error; or spinning beach ball that requires shutdown of laptop, since Command+Tab will not allow switching to another app. This started happening after the last AppleTV "upgrade" to 6.1.

Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen”. The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this problem

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Living Room Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (406)."

This error message keeps popping up overtime I try to play an iTunes bought tv show from my mac book pro to my apple tv "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Living Room Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (406)."
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it. Both devices are registered on the same apple id and password. This problem just started happening within the last week or so but prior to that everything was working as it should have. In fact since the launch of icloud things have been glitchy for me with purchasing and playing off the apple tv as well.
    Can someone please help?'
    Thanks

Unfortunately Apple's error codes are very much a mystery (at least to me), try restarting the Apple TV, iPad and router. If that doesn't help look into whether you might be encountering interference on your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your computer.
