The airport card won't turn on

Sometimes, after awaking the computer from sleep, the three bars are gone and the triangle is there but is bare.  Then I cannot turn on the airport card from touching the triangle or network preferences.  I have to restart the computer, which always works.

Is this problem present no matter which of the LAN ports you use?
Have you tried using a different ethernet cable?
Does this Mac connect quickly if you cable its ethernet port directly to the cable modem?
What IP addresses are list on your Mac, when connected via cable, for the built in ethernet port?

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

  • The AirPort card on my MBP says "Not Configured"

I am traveling overseas and all of the sudden my AirPort card won't function. It says "Not configured" and I have not been able to turn it back on in order to log into WIFI networks. I tried the Network Assistant and it tells me the AirPort is not on but it is also unable to turn it on. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Can you see the AirPort card in System Profiler (Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info)?
Here are some things to try to reset the connection settings on your Mac:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences (not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

  • How do I get to the airport card in a Nehalem?

I'm thinking my airport card may not be connected correct or something but I cant figure out where it is to check. I have the 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" I can't find any videos or images of this model mac. When i go to about this mac the card shows up under airport but Airport Utility doesn't show up anything just says rescan.

In that case AirPort Utility won't show you anything useful.
I have a Linksys WRT160N. As of right now my airport card wont even find it. My iphone and psp and ps3 connect to the router network just fine.
Two things that I can think of that might explain what you see: (1) The AirPort card is bad. (2) It's not connected correctly to its antenna(s). (I've seen stories about such problems.) I wonder if Apple Hardware Test could help you eliminate the first possibility.

  • How to change contry code on the airport card of a Macbook

    Hi all,
    I've a big frustrating problem.
I'm in italy with a MacBook bought at apple store in italy, I've around my house 8 different wireless network all in channel 6 or 11 , so to avoid interference I've set my router to channel 13 (in europe the wifi channel are from 1 to 13, in the Us from 1 to 11) i've no problem with my iMac 21" (but in the system profiler it tells me as country code FR instead of IT), but every time I turn on my macbook the country code of the airport card is set to US, so I can link only on network on channels from 1 to 11, what can I do to enable the last two channel on the macbook?

    Hi,
The "Intel HD graphics 4400" is soldered to the motherboard (or integrated) and you can not change or swap out. You have to live with that and saving money to buy another machine.
    Regards.

  • Airport card won't auto select my AirPort network at boot up

I have two AirPort express routers in the house, configured together (to increase range) on one network, "Aspen". Its the only network I have. When I first set up my Mac several years ago I used the AirPort wizard. After initial config, my Mac would always automatically select the wireless network "Aspen" at every boot up. Over time, I started to see my neighbor's various networks listed too, but, the AirPort card always auto selected and connected to my network.
Somewhere along the way (with various network reconfigs happening to add the second router, reset a password so someone's WIndows machine could use the network, etc..) somehow my config got munged and for the last year or so my AirPort card would not auto connect. I'd have to manually select "Aspen". In the last few months, auto select has begun working again, but, it always, always selects my neighbors network, and I have to manually switch it over to mine.
I've used the Help docs below. I've got it set up exactly as they're saying. "Aspen" is the ONLY network on my AirPort list. When I boot, it says, "I can't find your network. Would you like to connect to "neighbors network"? What can I do to reconfigure this to work correctly?
    Thanks so much!
    Choosing preferred AirPort networks
By default, AirPort attempts to join the wireless network your computer was most recently connected to.
If you are in an environment with multiple wireless networks, you can set up your computer to join a preferred network when you start your computer, wake it from sleep, or turn AirPort on.
AirPort keeps track of the wireless networks your computer has connected to, and lists them in the Network pane of System Preferences.
To choose a preferred AirPort network using Mac OS X 10.4:
Open Network preferences, choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu, and click AirPort.
Choose "Preferred networks" from the "By default, join" pop-up menu, and select a network from the list.
You can add wireless networks to the list by clicking the Add button, and clicking on the Network Name pop-up menu. Choose a network and enter a password for the network if necessary. Use the Delete button to remove a network from the list.
To give a network the highest priority, drag the name of the network to the top of the list. This is the network AirPort will attempt to join first.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.3, choose "A specific network" from the "By default, join" pop-up menu, and either type the name of the network in the Network field, or click the Network pop-up menu to display the available networks, choose one and then enter your password for the network.
You can set additional options to control the way your computer joins available networks. Click Options and choose an option from the "If no preferred networks are found" pop-up menu.
If you choose "Ask before joining an open network," you will be prompted when an open network becomes available. If you choose "Automatically join an open network," you will not be promoted, and will automatically join an open network when it becomes available. If you choose "Keep looking for recent networks," AirPort will continue looking for networks you have already joined, and automatically join the network when one is found.

  • Got Cable DSL and the airport express won't transmit

Admittedly, I'm a novice. I had Verizon internet until yesterday. all was dandy and I hooked it up all on my lonesome.
Moved today and trying to hook up the Time Warner Cable/Internet and can't get the airport to work.
The service works because if I hook it directly into my computer's ethernet I get a connection. But even after running the application to set up my airport I can't get the computer to read the ethernet connection thorugh my airport extreme.
Couple of other wonky things: I can't seem to re-configure my airport because every time I try, after providing the correct password, it tells me there is an error in reading the configuration.
I have odne a hard reset by presisng the reset button for ten seconds.
I have turned off my firewall (I think) and have the internet sharing on.
Driving me crazy: seems the airport just won't transmit the signal.
Perhaps I need a DHCP address from the Provider? They told me I didn't.
    Any suggestions.... please?

Since you have changed modems (DSL to Cable), make sure you do a completer power recycle of your network components...
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the Cable modem & AEBS. (Wait for at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Try connecting to the Internet. If still unsuccessful, continue...
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBS.
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
Setup the AEBS for High-Speed Cable Service
Using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: Ethernet
    - Configure: Using DHCP
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

  • Switched from DSL to cable modem. My Airport light won't turn green. Keeps blinking orange. No wireless now and can't connect to more than one computer! ?????

Switched from DSL to cable modem. My Airport light won't turn green. Keeps blinking orange. No wireless now and can't connect to more than one computer! ?????

    Hmmmm.
If you reset the AirPort Extreme by holding in the reset button for 9-10 seconds and then releasing, the AirPort should be back in default settings which would allow mutliple computers to connect to the LAN ports on the AirPort.
Power off the cable modem for now and leave it off at least 15 minutes.
With the AirPort Extreme still powered on, hold in the rest button on the back for 9-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking abmer light.
Then, power off the AirPort Extreme.
Check to make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme.
After the modem has been powered off for at least 15 minutes, power it up and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Now, power up the AirPort Exteme and let it run for 2-3 minutes
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Express
Click on the AirPort Exteme, then click Continue to follow the guided setup tp configure the AirPort Extreme.  You can use the same wireless network name, password, etc that you used before, or set up a new name and password, etc.

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 - the "attention" light won't turn off

I've tried everything I can think of for weeks but I can't get the "attention" light on my HP Color Laserjet 3550 to turn off.  It originally came on when a page on from the manual input tray got stuck maybe 20% of the way in.  It was a real easy fix,  I pulled the page out and now the "attention" light won't turn off.  So I can use the printer at all.  I've had this printer about a year. I purchased it used.  I've always had the manual feed tray as the default because I use this printer mostly for envelopes and less than 81/2 x11 printing as I have an old workhorse HP 4+ for all my straight 81/2 x 11 printing. I've rebooted. I've unhooked cables and the router.  I've opened up the printer and removed the casing (the plastic apparatus on the door)  and replaced it. The router is a 2Wire HomePortal 1800HG.  I'm just baffled here I've printed so much with the manual feed tray and I've had allot worse things happen that I've had to fix.  Now a simple stick like this and the light just wont' go off.

    HI Vern,
Where did you bought the printer? may you bought it from a different region than your current one?
What is the exact cartridge number of both the black and the tri-color ink cartridge, as well as their product number?
I bought the printyer in the US and the cartridges also came from the US,  probably no the same state.  Cartdridge # 97,  black # 96.  I don't see a product number.  This is the same # that was in the printer before and the same one I always used.   As soon as I pull it out the light goes out,  and on again as soon as I install it.  This is before the printer even cycles through it's "new cartdridge" routine,  if you know what I mean.
    thanks for the reply

  • Cannot install Airport on my old Powerbook G4 - BTHomehub network quotes "password incorrect" although it isn't. Same settings work OK on my iMac, G5 and other Powerbook G4. Is there a fault on the Airport card?

I have recently re-installed 10.4 on my old Powerbook G4 with success apart from the Airport network.
Using BTHomeHub (which I use successfully on my other Powerbook G4, iMac and G5) I get the message that the password is incorrect, which I know it isn't as the other macs are OK. Is there a fault with the Airport card?

Hi Frank, is the BTHomeHub using WPA2 encryption perchance?
The original 802.11b Airport card cannot do WPA2, and may need a firmware update to do WPA if the earlier of the original Airport cards.

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem.  You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites.  They have parts and installation instructions.  To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

  • What is the model number for the Airport Card?

The Airport card in my late 2008 unibody macbook has broken and I'd like to buy another online, what is the part number?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Click on the Apple in the upper left corner of the screen, then About this Mac, then More Info, then find Network, and click on AirPort. That will give you details.
Why did you conclude that the card itself is broken instead of just a network configuration problem?

  • Airport Card Won't Stay Connected to Internet

I recently installed an original Airport Card in my iMac DV 400 SE Slot Loading. OS 10.3.9 recognizes it and will occasionally connect to the internet using Safari. But after a minute or so it drops out and is impossible to restart the connection. It will occasionally reconnect but I don't seem to be able to duplicate the steps. Anyone had experience with this?

Try reseating the airport card by removing it and putting it back in, and while you're in there, unplug the antennae wire and plug it back in. Might just be a bad connection.
