The amount of ram for g4/800

ok so i took my g4 imac to our local mac shop, and tried to get up to 1gb of ram, when i went to the "about this mac" it said it had 512mb so i had to get another 512mb for 1 gig. no big deal. so i go to the store and when i get it back it only has 768mb, and they said it really only had 256mb of ram for some reason. and they said you cannot get 1gb of ram. is this true? ive been looking around these forums but nothing seems to clearly answer my question?

The iMac G4 is a funny beast when it comes to RAM. There are two RAM slots one called "user-accessible" and the other "factory-accessible". Apple installed all the RAM originally ordered in the "factory-accessible" slot so you would have 128MB, 256MB or 512MB installed in there.
The "user-accessible" slot would be empty for users to upgrade at a later date.

I suspect that you had a 256MB in the 'factory' slot and a 256MB in the 'user' slot when the shop upgraded they only replaced the 'user' with a 512MB to give you that 768MB total. For anyone who knows iMac G4s, upgrading the 'factory' slot is not difficult I took the photo above for example.
I hope the store didn't charge you a fitting charge for the user-slot installation and it's a two minute job that anyone is capable of. The factory slot installation is probably a thirty-minute job and is more complex.
To confirm my suspicions have a look in  menu > About this Mac > More Info...:
Check you have a 256MB and 512MB.

Maximum speed and amount of RAM for m7664x

I have an m7664x that I will be upgrading to 64-bit Windows 7 and I want to upgrade the RAM.
According to the product specs, it has the A8M2N-LA (NodusM3) motherboard with 4 DIMMs. On that page, it says that it supports up to 4 GB of RAM at 667 MHz.
Now, I've come across a few posts here and elsewhere that suggest that it can handle more (up to 8 GB) and higher RAM speeds (PC6400 / 800 MHz) and have it recognized and utilized.
Can anyone confirm that it can support up to 8 GB of RAM and with higher speeds?

Two weeks ago I installed 8GB DDR2-800 into my stock m7664x and all is still working fine. The BIOS setup shows 800MHz, and the memory test passes with no issues. For the record:

Best Amount Of RAM For Web / Media Designer?

Hello Everyone,
First post and jumping right in.
I'm moving to a MAC permanently and this will be my first purchase (iMac 27" Quad Core). Can anyone tell me the most suitable RAM upgrade I'll be needing? My budget really doesn't allow for the 16Gig right now unless it's really needed.
I do run mostly the Adobe CS line sometimes 3-5 programs at once (Photoshop - Dreamweaver - and most memory hogging-ly Premiere). Soon I will be getting into Final Cut Pro.
Needless to say aside from a myriad of other issues performance and lag-time is why I'm jumping ship from PC.
Does everyone think I'll be pretty satisfied going with 8Gig of RAM to start or given the above info am I wasting time not going straight for the 16Gig?
I've spoken with a few designers and they've told me while the Mac Pro is incredible - it's overkill for what I need storage and ...well...everything else wise and the common saying has been - get the iMac and upgrade the ram.
So I humbly ask you experts. To summarize my wordiness above
8 or 16? What are your thoughts as well as any other great add ons that could be of use to a designer with a large check from a recent project burning a hole right through his pocket?!

I would recommend adding 2 x 4 GB for a total of 12 GB; you can then see if that will be enough. Please note: there have been posts here regarding problems of the new iMacs when adding third party RAM for a total of 16 GB; there have been no problems reported if the 16 GB is OEM RAM (such as Samsung or Hynix, which is what Apple has been using). So, if you intend to keep the original 2 x 2 GB, then I'd suggest adding 8 GB.
That is what I did; I do a fair amount of video editing and the iMac is doing just fine with 12 GB. Also, iMacs are quite finicky about their RAM - do not buy any brand "value" RAM - stick with quality RAM from reputable vendors with lifetime warranties, such as OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial (or Samsung which will be more expensive).

Is the away to up the amount of vram for the intel from 1.5g to more?

im looking for more ram for the onboard since i have 16gb and the card is only getting 1.5gb i would like to be able to change it

You can't. The amount of VRAM is determined by how much RAM is installed and 16 GBs is your computer's limit and is not upgradeable. There is no video card in the computer. The GPU is integrated with the CPU and uses shared memory.

Is there any way to increase the amount of space for all day events?

I have iCal on my ipad and my phone, and when I look at the daily view or weekly view, only 1 1/2 lines are shown. If I have a few events that are all day (I keep several calendars) then I have to scroll through them one at a time. And with my fingers, sometimes they go by too fast. Does anyone know how to increase the amount of space? I am using an iPad3, and an iPhone 5, both with ios 7.

With Mac OS X, there is no way for you to alter the amount of real memory a program is allocated. This is all done dynamically by the OS. OS X's virtual memory management is far better than 'ole OS 9's.
What are saying about a memory leak? I take it that Safari is continually using more and more memory. How much memory is it usually taking up after a few hours? Perhaps you should just quit and restart Safari every few hours before it begins failing to respond.

That is not a simple question. I don't think anyone here knows the exact testing process that Apple uses to determine what the max ram will be at the time of release. This is done during the development process.

Payment block in F-53 even if the amount is due for payment

Hi Gurus
While we are making payment through F-53 we are getting an error message "1 item(s) was/were not activated due to online payment blocku201D Message no. F5528.
Issue:
1.     Amount is already due for payment.
2.     Payment block is needed if the amount is not due.
3.     Now we are manually remove payment block by using t code FB02.
How can we remove this payment block automatically if it is due for payment?

Dear Friends
We are using FB02 for removing the payment block.
Example:
We are creating a vendor invoice on 01.02.2010 and terms of payment 30 days
so on 05.03.2010 it will be due for payment (Payment is making on 05.03 2010).
Invoice is crating by one user
Payment is done by another user.
While doing F-53, user is getting this error (even the invoice is due for payment) and this user is removing the payment block using T code FB02.
Now our Clients Requirement:
If the payment is due, then the system will allow (without using FB02)
If the payment is not due , System have to Throw Error message.
Their Argument is that what is the need of Payment block. Means we are creating terms of payment for 30 days, 45 days etc....
Two terms of payment is enough.
One for immediate payment without block and another with block.
Requirement: Is it possible that payment block will be removed automatically if it due for payment and other side if the payment is not due system should block.

Hate to resurrect a dead horse but....I was looking in the instructions for memory upgrades and the instructions specified that the computer will only recognize 3 gigs. Will that still be in effect if I upgrade to Snow Leopard when it becomes available? Or do I need to save my pennies for a Mac Pro? What I am getting at is: is the reason for the RAM cap due to software issues, 64 bit not being native, different version of leopard used on notebooks, or is it due to hardware issues.

How do I manage the amount of space for back up on a timecapsule

I have a 1GB time capsule that is stating that it is full. I only use it for back up of my macbook. I want to add a pc to it for backup purposes. Is there a way to manage the amount of space one user uses?

First, you'll need some sort of app on the PC to do backups to a network location.
Second, mixing Time Machine backups and other data on the TC's internal HD presents some conflicts. See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details and some possible workarounds. Your easiest option is to connect a USB drive to the TC and back the PC up to it.
If you still want to do both backups to the TC's internal HD, you have two unattractive options:
Erase the TC's internal HD, and let Time Machine start fresh.
Manually delete a lot of old Time Machine backups to make room for the PC backups. See #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions and don't miss the pink box there.

How to know the amount of RAM Oracle is recognizing on the Server...?

That sets off a massive great alarm bell. This sounds like a very good place to start re-writing SQL. The best way is to do it in one go, instead of looping, do one big
insert into select ...
joins and all go here
If for some reason the logic in the loop is so really complex (and it's got to be very complex to not be able to do this) that it can't be merged, then yes, next best is to do bulk processing.
The fact that the ETL is doing millions of single inserts, which is a very bad practice and should be avoided if at all possible, makes me think that there is another bad practice and none of those inserts are being bound - lack of bind variables! In which case my Wild Assed Guess might not be that far from the mark.
This is something I have observed on 10g, if you set the automatic memory tuning by using sga_target and let Oracle size the shared pool, what it tries to do is extend the shared pool to hold all the SQL you throw at it. Since you then proceed to throw millions of unique SQL at it, this of course doesn't work, but doesn't stop Oracle from trying, ending up with all your memory used for pointless SQL and none for PGA/buffer cache etc.
The implicit assumption with automatic memory tuning is of course that the process has been written correctly!
