The Apple Idiot needs help
Hey Guys,
The solution might be on here somewhere, but can't find it.
So now I am trying this instead.
I have a macbook pro from 2009, I have never done anything except updating via software updates on the computer.
Now I would love to buy the mountain lion update on app store, but I haven't done it yet since it seems that people are having trouble with their mac afterwards.
So my question is, how do I install mountain lion without running into any problems? preferably step by step
Right now I am in Canada on exchange, and do not have any installation cd's with me at all.
So what do I do?
Hope someone out there has the time to explain it to me.

When you upgrade, you need to do the following:
1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
6) Install the upgrade.
Technically, you could do #2 without the install disks. You could hold down command-S at startup to enter single-user mode (which is a command-line mode), then enter the following command:
fsck -fy
If you have a clone backup, made with something like Carbon Copy Cloner, then you could restore that backup fairly easily without needing the install disks, if you had problems with the install that resulted in needing to do that. You could also boot from that backup and use its copy of Disk Utility to repair the main hard drive, instead of using single-user mode.

If the thief enabled activation lock on the device, then there is nothing that can be done. Only the password for the Apple ID that it is locked with can disable activation lock.

My screen freezes and popup message says I need to do a shutdown and then restart. It does it sometimes 2 times a day. Im new to apple and need help.
Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...
I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only. I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful. I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard. I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option. I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way. It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort. Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson -

Lord K. Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it. It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me. My messages were in folders for a lawsuit. It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea. We are talking thousands of pages! I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried. However, I can not bring them to him on a Flashdrive when I meet with him without an extraordinary amount of presssure on my part. THis is not just some little email issue. I got new hard driver for my MacBook I don't have the cd but I do have flash drive that has the software I need help because when I turn on my laptop it shows me a file with question mark how can I install the software from the flash driver?
Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

After upgrading to Yosemite, my Exchange calendar no longer syncs to iCal (the Apple calendar). Help?
That's not the point. Before iCloud, Outlook synched with Apple Calendar and/or iCal. With iCloud, Cal syncs with iPhone and other devices. Outlook doesn't have to sync with iCloud (although that would certainly be nice). It just has to continue to sync with Cal, which in turn syncs with devices via iCloud.
But for some inane reason, it doesn't. If this is Apple's way of forcing people to not use Office and only use Calendar and Apple Mail, they are going to stop the gains they've made in business environments. Businesses, especially large businesses, use Outlook. End of story.
Furthermore, Apple's instructions for setting up or deleting iCal and iCloud accounts is complete gibberish. And I'm a tech who has been working with computers for 32 years. Apple used to be great at making things easy. They now suck at it and are just as bad as Microsoft. -

my screen is completely white, i've tried holding lock and home buttons as seen on you tube something called 'white screen of death' its goes black (think it switches off) then back to the white screen need help fast please!
If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete factory reset.
Factory Reset - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
Display will show:
Reboot system Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
Press Volume Up
Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.

- Try a reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then connect to your computer and try to restore.
- See if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:

- If the logo still show all the time, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the above again. -

I replaced my 2010-2011 iMac internal HD i dont have an install disk i created one with my external HD but when i go to install lion onto my imac it stays at the apple logo screen.HELP ME PLEASE!
Boot from the original Install disc that came with the computer and then format the drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID partition. Then you can re-install OS X. If you no longer have the original media call AppleCare with the serial number of the machine (look on the bottom of the stand) and for a nominal fee they will ship you replacement media.
The chances are very good you will have fan problems if you used an off-the-shelf HD, beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's from vendors that incorporated heat sensors into the HD. If you did not buy the same type of HD your computer will think the HD is overheating causing the fans to run at full speed. -

ITunes and Quicktime Error after automatice Apple update, need help!!!
So I currently have a new labtop with windows vista. I have been runining iTunes for the pass 3 months already no problems. The Apple automatic update has never caused any problems till now. Quicktime needed to be updated today, and I accecpted the update, prior to that iTunes and Quicktime was working properly. Once the quicktime update was complete, it restarted my computer like usual. Then when I tried to open iTunes this error came up:
"iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
Now I checked the audio configuration and nothing was changed or anything, that has not been touched at all, so I still think it had to do with the update. The next error was came up when I tried to open Quicktime and it read:
"Runtime Error!
Program C://ProgramFiles/QuickTime/QuickTimePlayer.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information"
So as long as I have been using Quicktime and iTunes I have never encountered this, I tried to re-install but the error kept coming up after it was installed. Please help me out!try doing following the steps in these articles
