The apple on the cover (dumb question)

I have the 15inch macbook pro and when i go to library other peoples apple the outside apple people can see looks bigger than mines my macbook is a late 2008 are the apples smaller or is it just me?

Sorry. I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch late 2008 model, and i notice when i go to the library and see others with Macbook Pro's its seems that the apple (apple that is lit by our screens) is bigger than mines. Im just curious if the apple has gotten bigger over the years, because mines seems small to me.

Newish to iWeb so excuse the possibly dumb questions!

I am not a web designer also, so technically my skills in web stuff on a mac are basic ( i used to do some basic HTML stuff on a PC). I have my .mac account that I use for my family site, which is fine. But now I have a registered domain for my photography business, so I went ahead and created another web site for that, separate from my family site. I got it all done then went to save it to a folder and it is saying, "the document iweb could not be saved." I have tried a few times but nothing. IT won't even let me publish it to my .mac site. I NEED to get this done and am at my wits end. I am wondering if it would be easier to use the Adobe Creative Suite to design the webpage!
Also, is it easier to FTP the site to the domain server, or to have it at my .mac site, redirected from the new domain?
Last question. Can iWeb do a photo gallery that is more sophisticated than the slideshow option? As a photographer I would like something a little more snazzy that can also be divided by genre (babies, kids, family etc).

Converting m4v to ProRes, still constricts the resolution (dumb question)

Hi everyone,
A bit of a video noob question here but I was hoping to ask you guys, it seems like I was given some video footage in an .m4v file format that showed only the upper left portion of the screen. I was told that I need to convert to ProRes and that should allow me to see the entire thing.
Unfortunately, I thought Compressor would do the trick easily for me (again, a noob), but the only program I have that opens the video properly is an Adobe After Effects trial that is almost expired. Does anyone have a quick sense of what is going wrong and can just hint at the right direction for me?
So bottom line, I can only see the upper-left of an .m4v and am told to convert to ProRes. Doing that just outputs the video again in the same style. Does anyone have a suggestion so I can see the entire video like when I see it in After Effects? Thank you!

Changed it to .mov and it's the same thing. Take a look at how it opens up normally (m4v or mov):
When I Render it out in After Effects, it gives me the right aspect ratio and shows the entire video correctly, and automatically. Look at how much of the video is actually here in the same still:
I'd love to use Compressor for this sort of thing instead of After Effects, which I'm trying to get away from a little bit, but I just don't know how to make Compressor do what After Effects automatically does.

If both computers were configured identically, then they would both lose the same amount of battery life with respect to the same starting configuration - comparing apple to apples. I don't know how much the added RAM, etc. would reduce battery life, but it would be less for both models.
Battery life is a tricky subject because most mfgr.s like to suggest as long a life as possible, but often do so under a set of conditions that are not common to most users. Apple is no different. Their computers do have good battery life, however. But not likely as long as what is in the ads for the typical user.

I have just taken delivery of my first MacBook Pro so I am new to all that goes on underneath the cover. One quick question though...I had pre-installed three programmes to cover Exel, Word and Powerpoint. Can anyone tell me where to find them?

Welcome to Apple Support Communites and to the Mac, after a little time you will be flying!
Make sure if you have not done so yet to run software update to make sure you MBP is up to date, you can do this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left on your menu bar, and clicking on Software update.
One other thing that will help you when posting here is to make syre your profile is up to date/correct. You have in your profile as of now your MBP model and year which is freat, but you have for your operating system, iOS(mobile devces) 7.02, which would be for and iPhone, iPad, iPod. Your MacBook Pro operates on OSX (which in your case should be 10.8.5, you can find this info under the Apple logo, About this Mac) having this info available to anyone reading a question post is very helpful for them offer advice/sugesstions that may apply to your particular OSX, as well as eliminating confusion.

HT4437 this may seem like a dumb question, but do you always have to have wifi on to play music using airplay through the tv

This may seem like a dumb question, but once you have set up airplay from the ipad through the tv do you always need to have the internet on.

It's not necessary to have an internet connection in order to AirPlay content to the Apple TV unless the content is protected. You will however need to keep your wifi network turned on.

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

My ipad mail is synced to my iMac mail account. On iPad, I can only see my inbox and sent messages. I can't see any of the folders I have created on my iMac. How do I do that? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there!

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

When I download a movie from iTunes the cover art disappears. I try get info and add the art, it doesn't show up. So it's just gray. It opens and plays fine. Apple can't figure it out. It's an nas drive. When I use a firewire drive I get the art

When I download movies from iTunes to my NAS drive, I don't get the cover art. It shows up while its downloading, but when it's finish it disappears. If it has an iTunes extra the cover art is there. I tried get info and add the cover art, it never shows. Regardless of how I add it. Funny thing is, if I download the same movie to my external firewire drive, no problem its there. I've called Apple with no success. I've even tried copying the movie with the art from the firewire drive to replace the file on then NAS drive I still loose the movie cover art. I also tried several times to re download it, no luck. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

In the past I could see the movies in iTunes with the cover photo and sync to the other devices but now there is a listing a movies with no cover photos and in fact if I try to view the movie on the MacBook Pro it cannot be found unless I download it.

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

Using the USB port for an external HD dumb question

OK. Forgive a possibly really dumb question here...
My external HD has a USB 2.0 interface and I hooked it up to the USB port using a cable that came with an old USB 1 hub I'm not using right now.
My dumb question is this: is there such a thing as a USB 2.0 cable? Or are the USB cables all the same?
Also, how long should it be taking to transfer 12.1 GB of data (about 9,000 photos) from my external HD mounted on the AirMac base station to my MBP? There are still 48 minutes left and it seems an awfully long time for 12.1 GB of data. That's why I was wondering if the cable could be an issue...

Your email won't have the same confirmation number as it was ordered over the phone. You will need the last name used for the order, the location code (this ends in 01) and an order number (five to six digit number). Please keep us posted if you need further assistance with this.

Press "Command P" and when the Print dialogue box comes up, towards the bottom there is an option allowing you to choose the text size, i.e: small, med, large.
