The application activateSettings cancelled shutdown?

Hi,
Sometimes when I want to shutdown my MacBook Pro with OSX Lion, i get this message:
In English, something like "The application activateSettings cancelled shutdown, please stop activateSettings and try to shut down using the Apple menu"
The strange thing is, I allready did use the Apple Menu to shut down.
Has anyone here got any idea what this is and how to fix it?
Thank you.

Hello erikginn
I would open Activity Monitor to find that process and quit directly from there. The following article will give you the steps to perform this task. Once the process has been stopped, then try the shutdown process again.

You don't have to be "in" Safari for it to cancel logout.
You have several different Applications open, and any one of them may cancel logout if conditions are just right.
Quit the Applications you are no longer using and your Mac will run better and faster. And it will logout instead of cancelling.

  • What is the application for  'Cancellation of post goods issued'  in NACE !

Please any one tell me the application for cancellation of goods issued tcode VL09.

    Hi,
This is for reversal of goods issue.
If in some case you have picked a material and done PGI then you decide that there was an error is Ship to Party or delivery date or rates etc. and we want to revert back then you dont cancel the delivery instead in the first place you reverse the goods so that the material and accounting documents that have been posted during PGI are reversed.

  • I downloaded the OS X on my air and I can't use my keyboard and it won't let me restart my computer because it says that the application assistant canceled the shut down, I don't know what to do

I downloaded the OS X on my air and I can't use my keyboard and it won't let me restart my computer because it says that the application assistant canceled the shut down, I don't know what to do

When all else fails (it sounds like it has) hold the power button for about 10 seconds. This shuts down the computer. Then tap it to restart. Since it sounds like the OS upgrade began but then failed to perform a restart you may find that the Install Mavericks file is still in the Applications folder and you can try again. Or you might find that you have to redownload. I don't think the installation is going to proceed as if the computer had successfully restarted but I could be wrong (and in this case gladly so for your sake.)

  • Updates could not be installed because the application mail canceled restart

updates could not be installed because the application mail canceled restartOS X 10.9.3 (13D65)

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, select Mail, and press the Force Quit button. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.

  • Maverick message application mail canceled shutdown

After the latest update of OSX the system needed to restart. This was canceled by the message "Application Mail canceled restart".
I have quit mai and triedto  manually restart but the mesage apears again.
I am now in a closed loop unable to shut down or restartl beause of Mail, which is also closed.
    Any solutions?

Command-Option-Escape.   That brings up force quit.  Select Mail, and force quit.
Wait until Finder is the only thing visible.  Only then do you shut down.

  • The restart/sleep/cancel/shutdown menu shows up all the time.

We have one of the newest imacs (beveled back), and it has started automatically asking if we want to restart/sleep/cancel/shutdown as if we had pressed the on/off button. If I hit cancel it comes back up again shortly thereafter.
Is it a faulty on/off button that need to go in for repair?

You should really use the Apple dropdown menu to select Sleep, Restart or Shutdown instead of using the power button.
To "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep" Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Energy Saver and check the box "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep"
Noting that: the power button should only be used to shutdown an iMac, if it is totally unresponsive.

  • The application MAIL cancels my shut Dow on my Mac book pro

    help please!
I am trying to power off my MacBook Pro but it tells me mail canceled the shut down.....if I click on MAIL ay top of the screen the quit mail option is grayed out, and it won't open the mail if  I click on the mail icon In the dock
    what should I do??
    thanks in advance,
    cori

Press the COMMAND-OPTION-ESC keys to open the task manager. Select Mail in the list and click on the Force Quit button.
You should try to determine why Mail is having trouble quitting. This may be the sign of a corrupted mail database or other Mail file.

  • HT2448 the button restart sleep cancel shutdown keeps appearing every 30 seconds, if I don't cancel, it shuts down, any suggestions out there?

How do I make the retast sleep cancel shutdown option stop appearing every 30 seconds.  If I am working on safari it doesn't happen but does in mail, when idle etc/ thanks in advacne for any suggetions, EireCowboy

A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
    WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
    FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
    ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    -/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
Yours would be the 10.4.7 Combo update. Others reading, download the combo update that applies to you!
    Cheers!

  • TS2537 Mail application cancels shutdown and refuses to quit

I am running OS 10.9 and I still have problems with the mail application. It often does not want to quit and cancels shutdown. Are there any suggestions out there?

    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • "open project was cancelled or the application was unable to load database for..."

I'm doing a project for my Professional Writing course and I
have to use RoboHelp to create an online help document. The
professor provided templates for us to use but when I go to open
the project file I get the following error: "open project was
cancelled or the application was unable to load database
    for....(then the directory)"
I know the project file isn't corrupted because the members
of my class are using the same one without issue. I tried
re-downloading the file, I also re-installed the program itself,
still with no luck. I'm using a Trial Version of RoboHelp 6.0 .
The only other suggestions I have seen are that I don't have
edit perms for the system, but it's my personal laptop and I have
full admin privs. I thought at first that the folder was read-only,
but when I opened it up all it displays is the little green box in
the checkbox (which doesn't mean the folder is read-only, it's just
some stupid windows default, it's only read-only if the box is
actually checked). I tried making the entire directory read-only
and then turn it off but still get the same error.
    Any suggestions?

There's a topic on my site about Opening Projects that
includes the method of deleting the CPD and XPJ files but I didn't
cover that as the project is good for everyone else. Anything is
worth a try at the moment though.
Another thing to try is to rename the course folder, then
create a new folder with the same name plus all sub folders. Then
move the files across. That will ensure the folder properties are
good and not read only. Yes I know what you said but again anything
    is worth a try.
Also, in the last post you are saying the directory is not
read-only. I assume the files are all good?
Ref my previous post, is it the case that now you are getting
an error before the original error would have popped up?

  • When I view application windows, but then cancel from this view I am moved to another open window from the application on a different desktop space. How can I prevent this from happening?

    Hi Everyone!
I'm new to Mac, and I'm a bit unsure of how to handle a problem I'm having with application windows.
    Here's the scenario:
On one space I have a bunch of PDF's open in Preview next to the document I am working on. On another space, I might have an unrelated PDF open and an image, also open in Preview. Now, say I use the Application Windows button to view all my open PDF's on the first space, but then discover I haven't got the PDF open, so I need to open in in finder. The moment I quit out of the Application Windows view I am transported to another desktop containing an open Preview window! This happens with other applications too, like if I trigger application windows on pages instead of preview and need to cancel, I get transported off to some other open pages document.
This is insanely infuriating, how can I stop it!
    Thanks for your time.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here and they don't monitor these forums - I've asked the hosts to remove yout account ids from your post.
In terms of combining accounts it's not currently possible to do so, nor to copy/transfer content from account to another.

  • AIR Application stopping the MAC OS to Shutdown if event.preventDefault() is used

    Hi all,
I have a issue that adobe air application is stoping the shutdown of the MAC,This issue arises only when
    AIR application uses event.preventDefault();
Even I figureout the same thing when the TourDeFlex's AIR version was open on the MAC then also it is
not allowing the shutdown to be allowed.Although the MAC gives the Alert message for the same and tell us
to explicitly close the Application. So should this be treated as a bug or not?
I have already checked the below mentioned link long ago in which it is told that this is not possible to find the solution for this.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/cantrell/archives/2011/07/when-air-applications-prevent-shutdown-or -restart-on-mac-os-x.html
Still if anyone here is having any solution on this then any help will be appriciated.
Also if it is not possible then also I will like that some one from Adobe AIR team to confirm me on this that this is not possible and this
    is know to you people.
    Thanks in advance
