The application could not be installed...question

Hello !
I keep getting this error:
The application could not be installed because an application with that name already exists at the selected installation location. Try installing to a different location.
I have tried deleting everything and starting over and I have tried it in a different location but still nothing is working. any help I would appreciate so much.
Thank you !

Could you provide more details about the application you're trying to install, and some details about your compuer/OS.

Hi Kashmore,
Seems like the downloaded file was corrupt that could be because of either network restriction or the anti virus might have blocked it. My suggestion would be to try and download the product either by turning off the Antivirus or try a different network.

• "Sorry, an error has occured. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged

Hello-
I have an air application that is distributed via CDROM, the app is signed by a code signing certificate and timestamped. In mid-August when my certicate expired my users started calling stating that they couldn't install our product due to the following error: "Sorry, an error has occured. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author." From my understanding a timestamped application is taken at a point in time when it's generated so why would it matter if the certificate was still valid? I have since replaced the certificate and will need to redistribute to my (thousands of) users however when I test it out using a future date and time the same error occurs. Any information to help resolve this would be grately appreciated.

my command:
C:\Users\HOME USE\Desktop\AIR Development\HelloWorld>adl
application.xml
C:\Users\HOME USE\Desktop\AIR Development\HelloWorld>adt

orld 1024-RSA certHelloWorld.pfx password

• Air 1.51 installation failure. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged

The error:
The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author.
is generated when an AIR installation file is lauched from a Samba Network Drive in Vista Utlimate 64. If the install files are copied to a local drive, it installs without incident.

Working with networks drives are never reliable. Corruption, path problems, networks connections, and privlatges can come in the way of a properly mapped drive. I think your solution is fairly straight forward. You need to install your application from a local filesystem, not a mapped network drive. In the meantime, log a bug report HERE.

• The application could not be installed on_because it could not be verified

HELP! I download and use free apps all the time, but for paid apps, my mom downloads them off her account, (because you need a credit card) and then I just sync it to my iPod, but for some reason, today I updated "geodefense" and it downloaded no problem. But as soon as I clicked sync and saw the "updating to iPod" the progress bar got to the end and then a message popped up on my Macbook saying that the App could not be installed on my iPod because it could not be verified. So I tried removing it and installing it completely on my iPod again, but the same thing happened and now I don't have the app at all. This is very frustrating for me because it was working fine before and now it isn't.
PLEASE NOTE*** I do NOT have a jailbroken iPod. It is one that I received free from a mac store because my old one had some tech issues with it, so they replaced it.

I have the exact problem with Geodefence, been playing the demo for a while and so i decided to buy it. after downloading on the touch it said i needed to use itunes to load it, strange. i hate using itunes, but i fired it up, did a sync and it downloded but gave me the exact same error you got. why do i need to use itunes? i can download free apps no problem, why cant i buy geodefence too without the stupid laggy confusing pc app.
i guess its time to do a chargeback with visa.

• AIR application could not be installed...installer is damaged

The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged
I lost two days of work trying to figure out the issue. Any help is appreciated.

Tzeng, thanks for the reply.
I am installing the AIR app on Windows XP. The AIR app is installing fine on all MAC systems, but not on Windows. The dates in the Windows systems are correct.
Where exactly (what is the "home" directory) on the Windows machine do I need to put the .airappinstall.log file?
Thanks.

• An update tries to run, but an error message stating "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." I can't open Firefox

I click on Firefox and it says that Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few minutes. Then I get "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." this cycle never ends. Do I need to deinstall Firefox and re-install? If I do that, do i lose all of my bookmarks, etc?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
*C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
*(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
*C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates
*Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
*Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer. Do not remove personal data when uninstalling.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

• Please help:error w/ adobe download assistant"application could not be installed because another..."

Application could not be installed because another application is already being installed. Please finish the first application before preceeding with this one". It says something like that. I hit the download button and then hit save. It downloaded something, but that was it. So I went back and hit "save and run" and this message appears. I am not sure how to run what I saved initially if that is even the problem. Please help. I need to use this program tonight - the trial of CS5 Extended. Thank you!

Have you tried restarting your computer? It is possible you have a pending update or even another piece of software being installed which is preventing the installation.

I have purchased Mountain Lion but I can't download it. (the application could not be downloaded). Please help!

Absolutely. A proxy can prevent the software from downloading and installing.
I realize you have already purchased Lion from the App Store but a workaround in your case would be the thumb drive.

"The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again"this kind of error massage i found but there are no other copies of Firefox running on my computer. So please solve my prob.I can not uninstall this because i have saved important bookmark on my system. When i start my Firefox that time browser is opening few times later may be it's my internet slow connection but everyone has slow connection internet they are not having this prob then why should i have this prob. Why it is taking little bit time to open?

Thanks for the info about Trojan. It may be the problem. Meanwhile I went to Admin/Owner side and did some cleaning -- including trying to reload my Favorite/Bookmarks that have always carried forth from previous levels of Windows XP and earlier.
The new computer here did not grab the Bookmarks from the previous, and yesterday I thought I had them loaded, and today went to Worker-Bee side and they are not showing.
About those add-ons... I have no idea, but think I got everything up to date yesterday. I will look at your earlier reply tomorrow or this weekend when I have more time at home to learn from it.
Thank you for your time in helping.
Late here, heading to sleep. Marilyn

• "The update could not be installed" message

Every time I start Firefox I get a dialog box with this message:
The update could not be installed. Please make sure that there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer and then restart Firefox to try again. [OK button]
I click the OK button, the box disappears, then Firefox starts up.
It's annoying. I have tried updating Firefox in the Admin account on this computer, but even that has not worked. Why might this be happening, and what can I do about it?
PS I don't do online forums, if you are a "Firefox expert" answering thsi question, by all means post the reply on the forum, but please also email it to me at my registration address. Thanks.

So this is rapid updating? I had to stop using V5 because of problems. V5.01 did improve things. FF was still my default browser so I did get to follow the upgrade to V6. Now the suggestion that completely removing it and editing the registry will enable me to see if V6 is worth having. Please, this is not rapid. This is the kind of problem that stopped me using Norton, having to deal with more issues that actually using the software.
No doubt I will attempt this sometime, by then though I may have just got used to Chrome [yuk]. It is not a good sign that being more news worthy is better than having a working product. I'm a web and app developer and it has served me well until V4 now it is just getting in the way and Mozilla seem to think that just one more rapid release [with problems like this] may just solve the problems.
I think not after all I'm still waiting for MS to fix things that should have been better 10 years ago.
I removed my current version. I check that the folders were gone. I reinstalled. I got an error:
Error Platform version '5.01' is not compatible with minVersion >=6.0 maxVersion <=6.0
