The appliCATION PREVIEW CAN'T BE OPENED -10810

When I try to "preview" a file, I am getting an error message that says "The Application 'Preview' can't be opened -10810
How can I fix this?

Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • MacBook Pro The application "Preview" can't be opened. -1712

    Hello community,
    My MacBook Pro
    Processor 2.4 GHz
    Memory 4 GB
Storage capacity 19.31 GB free out of 249.2 GB
    OS X.9.4
The application "Preview" can't be opened. -1712
I have gone on line to look up possible fixes.
    1. I did: Go to Applications: Utilities: Disk Utility and ran: Verify Disk Permissions, Repair Disk Permissions. Both fine.
    2. I did: Finder: Go: Library: Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist and deleted that file. I tried to relaunch preview and it is still not working.

Try deleting the com.apple.preview folder from the Containers folder in your /Home/Library.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

  • Hi,  I cannot access Finder and get the following message. Can anybody help? The application Finder can't be opened -10810

    Hi,
In the last couple of days I have found that I can't shut down. When trying to open Finder I get the following message... The application Finder can't be opened - 10810.
Everything else seems to be OK. However I do have to sign in to Google Mail every time, where in the past it opened up automatically.  I am a really novice at fixing problems, so any help would be great.

The application Finder can't be opened -10810
"A number of people are having a problem where the Finder will hang or crash, followed by a Finder error message saying "The application Finder.app can't be opened. -10810." The general agreement among affected users seems to be that this is spurred mainly when accessing external drives, but there could be a few other related reasons."

  • The application finder can't be opened -10810

    how to fix "

Try a restart in safe mode. If Finder works there, start again normally and see if it is fixed. If not, run Console.app and see if any helpful error messages are being posted.
Have you added any 3-rd party software recently?

I have not used my iMac in a week.  Today when I clicked on Finder this message appeared:

Anyone have this problem in the past and can provide me with help on how to resolve the problem?

  • Error message "the application APPLICATION_NAME can't be opened. -10810"

All of a sudden I started getting the error message "the application APPLICATION_NAME can't be opened. -10810" whenever I attempt to open an application. Sometimes all of the applications will work, but then all of a sudden one or two applications will turn unresponsive and I will get the above message whenever I attempt to open any application. Does anyone know what this error might be, and how I might go about fixing it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • The application "Finder" can't be opened. -600

I found tons of forums talking about the -10810 issues but never found one talking about -600
I had recently clean installed mountain lion, soon after that I got this 'the application "finder" can't be opened" issues. Some says it happens after the lateast 10.8.2 update. A forum says the solution is delete the finder prefs file. I did and everything was fine for 2 weeks then it happened again just now. When I search for answers online again, I noticed everyone's discussing the problem -10810, but my macbook pro pop up -600 instead:
The application "Finder" can't be opened.
    -600
So I don't know if the -10810 solution will be the same as -600 issues
I can open folders by double clicking it. However when I click the Finder.app dock icon, it will not switch to Finder, but if I use Command + Tab, it'll switch to Finder.app
Also if I click "open in finder" on the dock's stacks, the above -600 error message pops up, so Finder still works but cannot open from dock actions.
I can forced quit Finder but it cannot be open again from the dock icon, it doesn't solve the issue even if I reboot my Macbook Pro.
Is there any solutions? or I just need to keep deleting the finder's preps everytime this happens?

This happens to me on various apps. Firefox, Calculator, really any app. Randomly. The -600 dialog can not be focused though it is always on top. So I can't click "ok" ... I can't find the process in the terminal to kill it either. Fortunately I can save my work... But the only option I have is to restart the machine. It has to be the most annoying bug I think I've ever seen and nearly renders OS X useless.

First time logging back on since update and back-up and when trying to open iPhoto window pops up " the application iPhoto can't be opened"

That's it? Nothing else? No buttons to click?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
