The application Printer Setup Utility quit unexpectedly

Hi All,
I'm using 10.4.11, trying to add a printer. In 'Default Browser', I click on 'More Printers', and I receive the following error, The application Printer Setup Utility quit unexpectedly.
Done all the basics, reset permissions, updated latest software, no help.
Any help is appreciated.

Did you reboot your computer after repairing permissions & installing? If so, trash the com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist file & restart your computer.
Please post back the results.

Hi, this is my first Post, and I am hopeing to get a help from you!!!
Well, I am trying to insatall a new printer and the printer software was installed just fine. But I get the following error messgae everytime I click "Set Up Printers" and I can't move forward.

Give us as much information as you can.
What brand of printer, Model Number?
Which Operating System do you have ?
OSX- OSX 10.1-OSX 10.2- OSX 10.3- OSX 10.4
There is a big difference.
Most printers are designed for PC use.
Not all Printers are compatible with Apple Computers.
There are several different compatibility lists that are out there and give step by steps for downloading drivers for Mac's.
Make sure that Printer Utility Software that is downloaded to your computer, that the folder is drug into the Application folder and double click and open it . Each one is a little different and thats the reason we need to know what printer you have.
In some cases the drivers that are furnished with your printer will not work.
Sometimes you will need to download 3rd party drivers that are Open Source to make some printers work. Here are 2 links below that have some available.

The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly?/??

I just updated to Leopard and I repeatedly get the error message box that says "The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly" Then it gives me three choices..ignore which keeps it offf for a few minutes and then it pops back up, report, same thing and relaunch..it immediately comes back. Does anyone know what the HPIO trap monitor is and what I can do to stop this super annoying box from popping up ? btw Happy New Year

It's the startup item associated with an HP printer—HP input/output trap monitor. Your best bet is to reinstall the latest HP software available for your printer. HELP - the application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectly

Hi, I have a room of networked Mac's (G4) OS 10.4.6 and we have had all twenty machines running CS2 and everything working fine.
Now that the machines haven't been used for a while I can only get 7 of the machines to work on CS2.
I get this error message when opening a new or saved document in illustrator " the application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectly".
Version of Illustrator is 12.0.1 Any Ideas?

Well we are at 10.4.11 right now and 10.4.6 if I recall correctly was a nasty version. I'm running CS2 on 10.4.11 with no constant crashing. You always have the one off goofy crash every once in a while.

Using Gimpshop - the application gimp-2.2 quit unexpectedly

Hi there,
When I try to open the gimp.app program, first a window pops up that says "caching fonts" and another window with a header 'xterm' comes up and in the xterm window it says "bash-3.2$".
After a minute or so, the "the application gimp-2.2 quit unexpectedly" message appears.
X11 seems to be running when all this happens although I don't know what X11 is or does.
Hope someone can help

The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly

This message pops up immediately when attempting to launch FCP (version 5.0.1)
I have trashed preferences, ran disk utility. No dice!
Any ideas.
The only thing I had done recently (since last running FCP) was downloaded QT Pro. I know it shouldn't have needed to download QT Pro, but I did, since I needed the application. With that stated, any help from you gurus out there would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, how do I also update to FCP 5.0.4?

QT Pro was installed as part of the FCP5 package.
Update to 5.0.4 and remember to repair permissions BEFORE and AFTER you run the updater.
If that doesn't help, try running FCP Rescue (google it, it's free)
Use it to TRASH your preferences.

The application HP device monitor quit unexpectedly window keeps popping up

I installed driver from HP for my version 10.5.8 and I now get the above message popping up every 5 seconds and I cannot get the printer to work. How can I remove this message and get printer to work wirelessly? I have removed all the files (HP) I can find and restarted comupter but message keeps coming up.
I am very frustrated.

This can depend on whether your iMac running Leopard 10.5.8 is an older PPC (G4 or G5) iMac or a post-2006 Intel based iMac.
They would need different printer drivers - check with HP that you have the right one.

"The application Sync Server has quit unexpectedly"

For the last week or so, the above message appears on my screen about once an hour. I can choose Ignore, Report to Apple, or Relaunch. I usually choose Ignore, although sometimes I hit Report.
The thing is, my MacBook Pro has been extremely sluggish for several months now--almost to the point of being useless. I've been trolling the support boards, trying various suggestions, but nothing has helped for a significant amount of time.
Until now. When I Ignore or Report the Sync Server failure, my machine perks right up and the speed is just as fast as when it was new. This situation lasts for about 45-50 minutes, then Sync Server apparently tries to sync, my machine slows down, then Sync Server fails, and the box comes up... and the cycle begins again. Then another 45-50 minutes of terrific speed.
Since I do not at the moment have much need for syncing (I have one computer and no gadgets or gizmos that need syncing) , I would be happy to kill Sync Server (assuming that is possible). However, I plan to get an iPhone later this year, and then I will need to sync that.
So--any ideas how I could get Sync Server to not quit but yet not slow down my computer?

I'm having the same problem on my machine. SyncServer has completely taken over my computer; when I watch it in Activity Monitor I can see it taking up >95% of my CPU processing ALL the time. I can force quit for a few short moments, but it just starts back up again. I tried the solution as listed in the link above (Open Terminal and type in that one-liner) but no success. Any other thoughts on getting SyncServer to stop having a mind of its own?

I have been receiving this error when trying to run FCE today. I have spent all day trying to run the app but to no avail.
I have completed an install after completing a complete uninstall as per the instructions on this page:

I have also downloaded the Preference Manager 2.1.4 to remove all my preferences and also deleted them manually.
The splash screen always gets to "loading video effects' and then issues the error with associated report. The report makes no sense to me.
I'm not sure what else to try now and it's driving me crazy.
Please help if you can.

Yes it's been working fine for a year on my iMac with the update 4.0.1. The only thing I can think of is that I installed the Boinx Fotomagico upgrade for Toast users this morning. I have since uninstalled this and still have the same problem with FCE.

I try to open my applictation from the hard drive. No luck. I get this
I can either click reopen (which won't let me do that it just gives me the same window) Close or Report.
So I reupload software into hard drive after deleting the original one. No dice. I try opening it from the CD and no dice.

The problems you are having are most likely due to corrupt preferences. Each time AppleWorks crashes there is more corruption. I know I give this response very frequently (so do others), but it's because it is the most common cause of problems with AppleWorks. Deleting & reinstalling (not "upload") does not affect the preference files. These files are created by AppleWorks for each user & must be deleted manually. The next time you launch AppleWorks new, clean preference files will be created. See my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, for more information.

Printer setup utility crashes

I am running 10.4.8 on my iMac G5. Up until a few days ago I was successfully using two network printers that I have in my home. One is HP Photosmart 3310. Suddenly it stopped working, and I uninstalled and reinstalled and updated the software and drivers countless times. I kept getting a "printer not supported" message. Now when I try to install ANY printer I get the following message midway through the process in printer setup utility:
The application printer setup utility quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected
Click reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
Can somebody help me please??

I think you left out some details-
The Photosmart 3310 is a USB printer, so to make it a network printer you are sharing it? From a Mac?
Here are some generic troubleshooting steps to try:
Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Delete Print Prefs - search for (File>Find) files that start with com.apple.print and delete them all and reboot.
Reset Printing System (new in Tiger) - In Printer Setup, click this menu item found just above Quit Printer Setup.
If there is a downloadable Combination Updater from Apple, use it to re-Update OS X.
Try Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.
Use a Disk Utility like Disk Warrior to repair the HD, or start from the Install DVD to use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive.

Printer Setup Utility unexpectedly quits

I'm using system 10.3.9 and a HP5150 printer. When I print from any application I get a message that "the application printer setup utility has unexpectedly quit." The document will print but I can't access the printer set up utility... it own't open when I click the application either from the applications folder or from the system preferences. I reinstalled the driver and repaired my permissions and also reinstalled the 10.3.9 update. The printer works fine with my other computer.

Try deleting print prefs - search for files that start with com.apple.print (File>Find) and delete them, then restart the Mac, and try again.

No Safari - no Printer setup utility

I have an Epson CX6600 printer scanner. I had created PDF files and tried to print one. I got the message that the application Printer Setup Utility has unexpectedly quit. I tried various other files and kept getting the same message. Then I went to reset my Printer Setup Utility and it would not open.
Soon after Safari would not open (no layouts come up). Even when I ask for a new window nothing happens. I reinstalled my original software, which is OS X 10.3.5, tried again, with the same results. I don't even know how to upgrade back to 10.3.9. After reading other forums I decided to go to a different partition and I found the same problems. Yet Internet Explorer works and my email program works. However, all my bookmarks are at Safari, so I would love to get it working again as well as having my printer print.
Some context about the problem. I had been creating and saving PDF files, which is what I was trying to print. I had recently installed Virtual PC and Windows XP Home.
Any answers! Would be very grateful.

Have you run Repair Permissions?
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never Verify. Just run Repair.)
Rerun RP until the only messages reported are listed in this link.

When Repair Permissions is complete. Quit Disk Utility.
