The ATI X1900XT  card

the ATI X1900XT card ....is that good for video production..
or the n-vidia...geforce 7300 gt
and do u think fcp will be that much faster with the new mac pro quad 3ghz

While I'm sure FCP is fine with a Nvidia 7300GT I do refer to the entire FCS suite of applications which includes the blood-sucking Motion 2. Regardless, in a video production scenario I would always recommend the most GPU performance you can buy, similarly the most drive size and performance. But hey… that's me.

  • "solarization" w/ ATI X1900xt Card in Aperture (RAW only)

I have installed the ATI x1900xt card and have a solarization issue with images in the Canon .CR2 RAW format. JPG images are fine.
This started happening soon after the upgrade to Leopard 10.5.2.
I had done a re-install of Aperture to bring it back to 2.0 but still had the problem (and upgraded back to 2.1.1)
I run dual cards, and have the GeForce 7300 as secondary (the ATI x1900 as my main card)
If I run just the GeForce 7300, I have no issues, the issue is only present with the x1900. Even with the latest upgrade to 10.5.5, there is no 'fix.
If I move the Aperture window to a monitor running off the GeForce 7300, minimize and then maximize so that Aperture runs off that card, no problems.
Anyone else having this issue and know of a fix other than buying a different video card. I just bought the ATI x1900 4 months ago and can't afford to just buy another one.

The release of Leopard 10.5.6 has solved this issue, within the release notes is reference to Graphics updates to increase speed and stability within Aperture.

  • Anyone using the Ati Graphics Card 5770 with a Mac Pro 2.93Ghz (2009)

I would like to upgrade my stock Geforce Gt 120 cards in my Mac Pro 2.93Ghz 8 core (early 2009) to the Ati 5770 card which will be connected to 2 Apple 27inch Retina Displays.
I am aware that Apple states that the 5770 card is not compatible with the 2009 model but I have also read that Barefeats say this is not true and will work on the 2009 machines.
Having read numerous reports from people having problems when using the 5770 in there 2009 models such a faster fan speeds and excessive noise I really don't know what to do?....
Can anyone chime in with their experience and recommendations on the 5770 and also what Mac Pro model and OS version was used?.
I have looked at the Ati 5870 but it is a bit more than my current budget and my graphics power needs.
    Many Thanks
    Noodlez.

Very few problems. Some try to do something w/ the wrong dual link active adapters or to use HDMI or something else. I know of very few let alone "numerous" reports. But 10's of thousands of Mac Pro 1,1 and above love it and are fine and happy - and you need 10.6.5 (10.6.8 of course has a much improved driver whereas 10.6.4-1/2 was OEM and basic shoddy and not on the retail 10.6.3 DVD).
ML use to be trouble on a 2008 3,1 too. At this day and age unless you have PowerPC apps plugins or drivers and hardware 10.8.3 is the way to go. And 10.8.3 opens up more graphic card choices too. Nvidia GTX series or AMD 79xx and EVGA has Mac Edition as does AMD have 7950.
    Barefeasts.com has test results
I think you want to double check but "RETINA" is a MacBook Pro only and might be thinking of Thunderbolt, which will not connect to a Mac Pro. There still is a non-Thunderbolt 27" which is.

  • Is the ati graphics card good or bad?

i have the mac pro 2.66 w/ the 7300 gt. it works great but i do wish i upgraded to the ati when i purchased my mp. it just seems like it would of been easier than buying the card later and installing it myself - and cheaper too, 250 compared to 400. but i've been reading a lot of mixed reviews (usually not too good) about overheating and screen glitches. i would like to get a better card but the ati is the only one compatibable with the mp. is it worth the 400 bucks and what are your guys' thoughts on the ata card.
    much appreciated

Forums are mostly about problems, so you do get a skewed view of the world. And AMD is really busy cranking out the new X2000 series (2400, 2600, 2900, etc).
The 1950 moved the fan assembly back, further inside, where it is quieter. The problem with dust and ventilation is hard to remedy. FBDIMMs also run very warm as well. But, the Mac Pro is quite efficient at cooling.
If you do work or run apps and games that would actually make use of the ATI Radeon, yes. Does something you do actually benefit? I can't find anything I do that would, personally.

  • Is the ATI X1900XT 256MB Or 512MB!

Can someone please tell me how much memory comes on the x1900xt? on Apple's website it's listed with 512MB, on ATI's website it's listed with 256MB. In addition, can I use the X1900XTX or the X1950XT with the Mac Pro?
    Thank you very much...

You will find all the Mac Pro specs here: http://support.apple.com/specs/macpro/Mac_Pro.html. The ATI X1900 has 512 MBs of VRAM.

  • Anybody got the ATi X1900XT yet? Is it loud?

    Hi,
Iwas just wondering if anyone's recieved their Ati Radeon X1900XT graphics card yet?
I've just ordered one and i'm looking at 6 weeks plus but i'm more interested on users opinions of the card, mainly how noisy or loud the card is?
If it's loud like past Ati cards i've had (AGP 9800 for example) it would be too noisy for me and i would probably cancel the card.
    Thanks.

Dead quiet? I have an ATI X1900XTX in my quiet PC (quiet case, fans, cpu cooler, etc) and with the stock cooler, it was very noticible even when runing idle. When cranked up with Half Life 2 it sounded like a friggin dust buster. If everything else about the PC wasn't quiet, I doubt I'd notice it so much.
I quickly bought an Arctic Accelero X2 GPU cooler and its VERY quiet now.
    http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=90
The Arctic cooler does add height to the card. I haven't verified whether it will fit in the Mac Pro.

  • Is the ATI X1900XT noisy ?

To all of you lucky gents out there with your X1900XT, is the card more noisy than the 7300 ?
    Thanks

Hmmm kind of strange says no display. Is this normal 30 inch cinema . I do hear the fan kick in at startup. When I first installed I did not hook up the power connector and the Mac pro told me to do that so went back in and did that

  • OpenGL not working with Photoshop CS4 on MacPro + ATI X1900XT

    Hi,
i am running a MacPro 2x2 2.66 Ghz with 12GB Ram, an ATI X1900 XT 512MB and a GeForce 7300GT. The ATI is in Slot 1. Connected to the ATI card is an Apple CD 30", connected to the GeForce is an Apple CD 23" and a Sanyo TV-LCD.
*The problem:* when running Photoshop CS4 (Beta) i can not enable OpenGL as Photoshop does not recognise any video card (selectable under PSCS4/Preferences/Performance/...).
Adobe says in a TechNote (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405711&sliceId=1#mac) that this card should be working. The ROM of the ATI is up-to-date.
What - or where - else could i change something to get this to work? Any hint?
    Thank you.

Like some of the other posters, I have a MacPro with two video cards, the ATI X1900XT and the OEM graphics card. I bought the ATI to drive a 30" display. I have been using the OEM card to drive the Wacom. When I learned of bird's eye view in CS4, I too looked in preferences for the OpenGL status and found it disabled. Following the above suggestions regarding the potential two card confusion, I moved the Wacom to the remaining open spot on the X1900XT and removed the OEM card.
Voila! OpenGL became available in CS4 preferences and I also noticed a significant improvement in the screen redraw rate (I went into the advanced options when turning OpenGL on and also checked use for image drawing). Bird's eye view is also an excellent feature which I will use constantly. Note: To use bird's eye you must hold down the "H" key (even if the hand tool is selected). While holding the "H", start to drag the mouse and the image will zoom out to show you where you are in the scaled down image. Makes the Navigator view obsolete.

  • APPLE 30" Cinema Display and ATI Graphics Card compatability

    hi all
I have a 2year old APPLE Dual proc G5 PowerMac 2.0mhz (1.5GB Ram) with an ATI graphics Card which is a ATI Radeon 9600XT 128mb ram.
This currently works well dipslaying via a Apple cinema 23" screen. However i would like to upgrade the screen with an Apple 30" display now. Will the current ATI Graphics card support a 30"display or will i need to replace the card on buying a new monitor..
i was looking at potentially a new ATI X1900Xt card.
any experiences and help please ...
    Thanks Paul

Your existing card will not run the 30" at full resolution. The ATI X1900 XT won't fit because it is not AGP.
The fastest AGP card for your G5 is the ATI Radeon X800 Mac edition
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/>
It has one DVI dual-link port that will run the 30" display, and one ADC port.

  • Do I need to buy another ATI x1900xt?

It seems that the ATI x1900xt is the best card in it's price rage to work with color effectively for professional use? yes?
Well, after a year has passed, my $400 card just broke, just like everyone else. Apple sells this card knowing its a faulty card, with it's over heating flaws, and glitchy behavior. How many cards does a post color guy have to buy? One a year? No warranty for the after market sale. I would have to buy a whole new computer with the crappy ATI graphics card with the additional warranty, so I may be able to go to Apple ever 6-12 months to replace the card without cost.
When will Apple feel responsible and make the color software fully compatible with a DECENT graphics card, so little struggling post facilities like mine will sleep well at night knowing my freaking computer monitor will actually stay on?
My fellow Apple lovers, Color is arguably the best software Apple has. Is there no other affordable card to buy? Any news for a better card for the future?
    -Little Burbank

It's not the card preventing you from playing realtime uncompressed HD, it's disk speed.
    Right the first time.
Here's some numbers: 1080i29.97 10-bit 4:2:2 requires a sustained throughput of 155MBytes/sec. Thats Bytes. Times 8 for bits, so 1.24 Gigabits/sec. eSATA is supposed to deliver that, but I've never seen it.
I use a Quad FibreChannel RAID3 side-by side dual MediaVault and have never dropped a frame.
In point of fact, the PCI bus isn't fast enough to support uncompressed HD, so everything is done proxy to DVI displays, and everything full scale has to happen on a dedicated card, like the KONA on PCIe.
So, given these numbers, why is it that COLOR can't achieve full frame-rate playback and takes so long to render? Well, let's take another look at those figures...

  • Java plug-in does not work on DELL laptop w/ ATI video card

    Hello there,
I try to run Java Web Start on my new DELL laptop with ATI mobility radeon 7500 video card. When I run the SwingSet2 App, the whole system locks up, so I have to do a hard re-boot on my laptop. I found that this problem happens to other DELL laptops when I address this issue to my co-workers. Nevertheless, this problem is fixed when I run Java Web Start on some other desktops that does not use the ATI video card.
Have any of your experience this? Does any know any workaround for this problem?

  • New mac pro with ATI video card & 2x 24" displays??

is it possible to connect two 24" apple displays to the new mac pro using the ATI video card?

2 nVidia cards doesn't buy you any performance increases. They don't talk to each other to improve performance in Mac OSX. Multiple cards is mostly for supporting multiple displays. How many displays do you have?
Apple has some initial performance benchmarks:

  • ATI Radeon Card with 2 DVI LCD Display

At last, I made a big step forward by purchasing the new MP. I already have a 23" Apple Display and intend to buy another DVI display (non Apple). How do I connect both LCD screen to the ATI Radeon card? Do I need to purchase any adaptor?

    Hi SamsonSimon;
    Here are the specs on the ATI Radeon card;
ATI Radeon HD 4870 includes two video ports: one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port. This allows you to connect both the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display or another Mini DisplayPort-based display, and a DVI-based display such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Display adapters are available to connect VGA displays.
Since it says it has two ports, one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port, it would seem you are going to need an adapter for the second LCD screen.

  • Is there a fix to the ATI Radeon 5800 series scree...

I have an ATI Radeon 8.850.0.0 and it has a screen resolution problem. Basically, I came home to find everything on my screen enlarged. I attempted to adjust the screen resolution through Windows 7 and couldn't find any resolution that looked okay. Everything is blurrier and stretched. Other ATI Radeon owners are having similar problems and posting the issues on forums. However, I haven't found many solutions to this issue online.
I would try and roll back the driver but it won't allow me. The Roll Back Driver option is grayed out. My driver is fully updated now as well. Is there anyone that knows how to fix this problem?

excuse me but what's the relation with Nokia/Ovi Suite or a mobile device and the ATI Radeon cards?

This [post|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6724880#6724880] mentions the possibility that the ATI 2600 cards are manufactured on two separate lines, and that problem cards may be associated with just one of them.
Thought it might be helpful to start posting specific card info and see if a pattern emerges.
There are 3 main places on the bottom side of the ATI card where potentially relevant information is written. There is also info in System Profiler. Please include what you can but at least Part Number, Serial Number (mask the last few digits), and a brief summary of the problem symptoms you are seeing -- or that your system runs trouble-free. Feel free to copy/paste my text as a template.
Please continue placing general comments in the threads listed above, and help keep this one focused on the card info. Thanks.
