The back button is there but never works. It didn't open in a new tab or window but the back button isn't functioning. I just downloaded Firefox 5.

I am ready to go back to 3.6 or whatever version I had because 4 and 5 have had these issues. I tried 4 before but now that I have 5 and the same issue, I remember that I saw this before.
As I was typing this note, I looked up and saw the back button is actually working on this site. Weird.
Also, there isn't a button next to the back and forward so I can see my history. Where is that, now? Sometimes, I want to go back 3 or 4 pages at once without loading each page the slow way. Awww, what am I saying? You all know what I mean. :\
I am using Windows 7 and have been using Firefox for years, so I am familiar with it and it is my only browser of choice so I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Web Viewer - getting buttons to open in a new tab or window

I am trying to get a button to open in a new tab or window in the DPS web viewer.
The options when creating a button are:
Open link in folio
Open link in device browser
Both which do not work when we export the web viewer.
I know it is possible as Adobe are using this function for their Inspire magazine. This does not seem to be html either that they are using. See link here - at the bottom of the page: Adobe Inspire Magazine October 2014: The Truth in a Face

There is a parameter on creating the iFrame called externalLinksOpen. They can set it to 'window', as it defaults to inline, which opens it in the current window. It's documented here:

In "Show more Bookmarks" if I right click does not work (I want to open in a new tab)

This is using Mac Firefox current version. I use lots of tabs and don't have space for all of them so there is a >> at the right end for clicking and displaying the rest of them. If I click and display list and highlight one of them, the right click does not work - I want to open in a new tab not use the existing - there are no menu options displayed on these tabs. The tabs across the top work fine for this

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Mine appear in gray, too; I think that's just the style.
Does this problem occur on all pages? (If it only appears on YouTube or other pages with Flash players, it may be related to keystrokes being captured by the plugin.)
A standard diagnostic for possible interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using

When I open a new URL I want it to open in a new tab instead of replacing the last tab in line.

When I have several tabs open and I open a new URL the new URL replaces the last tab on my bar. I would just like for the new URL to open in a new tab.

How do I get a favorite or bookmark to open in a new tab automatically, not in the one I am working in? The tab options/settings are unhelpful.

I have 2 laptops. Both have Firefox as my number one preference.
One computer, is set up correctly, If I am on a site, tap on a bookmark site, it will open in a new tab and not interfere with my current tab. It's wonderful.
The other Firefox, if I click a bookmark it will open in the CURRENT tab, changing the tab to the selected bookmark.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF, but that did not correct the issue. I have read the tab options and help desk, but that doesnt help either.

There is no built-in setting for redirecting a bookmark to a new tab.
Is it possible that the computer which does that has an add-on such as the Tab Mix Plus extension installed? TMP has a setting for that (Events > Tab Opening).

How do I make it the default that when I click on a link it will open in a new tab?

Particularly when I am doing a Google search, but also when I am in a site, I find I frequently have to right click and force 'open in a new tab' to avoid the link overriding the current tab. I want to have all links I click on automatically open in a new tab. My settings are set to go to the new tab immediately - that works fine - but too often I have to immediately back-page and re-click using the right-click menu to avoid losing my search or origin page. This is annoying when there are several links I want to explore, and have to backtrack to get to them.
Firefox is my default browser, 29.0.1 at the moment, and it runs on an old Dell laptop using WinXP. Before asking this I did check the available support info without finding an answer. Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

Right-clicking Open Link in New Tab or Window doesn't work

After upgrading to the latest version, 30.0, the right-click functions to Open link in New Tab or New Window stopped working. When I click the link that I would like to open in new tab or window, the right click window appears, I click on the desired function, and the right click window closes and nothing happens.
I restarted in safe mode and the problem remains. I am using Windows XP. I also tried uninstalling Firefox and then doing a clean re-install and that didn't help.
For now I went back to using version 29.0.1. Yes, I know that it isn't as safe but I can't use Version 30. without the right-click options!!!
I really wish the developers would focus on fixing bugs, vulnerabilities, etc. and leave the basic functions alone! The old saying if it isn't broken don't "fix" it!!!!!

This didn't fix the problem so I have decided to revert to the previous version: 24.6.0 esr. Maybe when version 31 or 32 come around I come back to the "latest" version?

How do I get all hyperlinks to open in a new tab instead of redirecting the open page?

Simply put, when I hit a hyperlink I do NOT want the page I'm on to go to the linked URL -- I want the new URL to appear in a new and separate tab. FF used to do this just fine -- until I "upgraded" to 5.0.1 yesterday.
Between this and the smaller screen size for the FF browser I'm thinking of jumping ship back to Chrome...

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.

Is there a way to force WebHelp to open in a new tab?

I'm using RoboHelp 9.0 and creating WebHelp.
The WebHelp that I create is opened from a link in a browser. When the user clicks the link, the WebHelp opens. Simple.
What I'd like to do is have the WebHelp open in a new tab.I know that users can force this to happen by using Ctrl+click or by changing a setting in their browsers. But I would like have the Help always open in a new page -- without any additional user input (or choice).
What I'm thinking of would be similar to the html command target="blank".
Is this possible?

I want to rearange the right mouse click menu so option Open link in new tab i 2nd from the top.

We have seen reports about a Community Toolbar extension causing this issue with not being able to open a new tab.
So if you have such a toolbar then start with disabling it.

Clicking on a document in google mail doesn't open a preview in new tab on Windows but it does on my Mac. How do I fix this?

I use google mail for work and personal mail. When using my Mac, I click on a document (PDF, Excel, etc) in an email message and it opens a preview of that document in a new tab.
On my Windows PC, I do the same thing and it just sits there. I have checked the pop-up blocker and some of the settings but can't figure out why it works in one and not in another.
Any help is appreciated.
