The back navigation button goes grey when I try to go back to search (www,. Safari); I use history to return when I can remember the start page. Am I wrong?
You're not wrong.. it should work.
Try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
Quit Safari.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test.

I use Windows but I can suggest you a couple of things that you can try out.
1. Right click on your toolbar, click Customize. Click on the "'''Restore Default Set'''" button.
2. Go to Firefox menu > Help menu > Troubleshooting information. In the tab that opens afterwards click "'''Reset Firefox'''". -
I have a dilema i use a programme called Mackeeper i accidentally moved several checked files to my trash BUT i didnt delete them,i would like to put the files back where they belong but the put back option is in grey and wont work?? i have spoken to Apple and to no avail !!!
Mackeeper moved my files to my trash so i pulled them out of my trash to my desktop it has copied them to my desktop as well as kept them in my trash!!

HOW do i get this stuff back to where it is supposed to go so that these programmes work properly again???? i also used delete and command but that did not work either,like i said i have not emptied my trash and ALL the info is there its just totally out of place and the put back option will not work sor some reason!!??? im running 10.8.5 imac someone PLEASE help me!!

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Failure to remove MacKeeper will result from neglecting any one of these points:
Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
Don't empty the Trash after dragging the application to it. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
Don't try to drag the MacKeeper icon in the Dock to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.

Can anyone help me connect my Macbook Air to a SAMSUNG TV. When I follow the basic instructions (Thunderbolt to HDMI connection) the screen on my computer goes grey and an error message appears inviting me to press any button to restart the Macbook. When I do this nothing happens. Only when I disconnect the computer from the TV does the Macbook allow me to login. The TV does not receive any signal from the Macbook even though I know the HDI port works fine. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to enable something on the Macbook?
An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

I just bought my Macbook Pro, the screen suddenly goes grey and there is a message in the middle in a black box that says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again.".
it happens every now and then! is there something wrong with my laptop?

I upgraded a week ago and every since it constantly stops in the middle of running and says "Mozilla Firefox not responding" the screen goes grey and the the little blue circle goes around and around its so annoying and does it all the time like while I'm typing this it has happened twice, it didn't do this till I updated.
hummm never had it do that till I upgraded last week PLUS I lost all my Favorites/Bookmarks that really pissed me off my husband and I lost ALL of them I have had them for years and I upgrade and lose them can't even tell you how mad we were 8o/ very frustrating to say the least. I just figured that it had to be an "apple" keyboard, silly me!
so I just went and got my old compaq keyboard from my old computer in the trash pile. heck, a few quick requests to push the z and ? keys and it works great.
the apple now has tears on it, cause of the compaq keyboard, but too bad, it shouldn't have broke!!!! this compaq keyboard is 9 years old and still works great, why would I go spend $30 on another apple keyboard that only lasts 1 year??!

When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen. If I am speaking to a person, if they hang up then I am back to the phone application. If I'm leaving a message, I am unable to return to the phone screen to end the call, and have to wait until the other phone hangs up. I'm also unable to switch back and forth to look at my calendar if I'm calling someone about scheduling. This has only started happening since the most recent iOs update. I run into situations similar to this about once per day during the work week, as I use my phone is this manner quite often. While not life altering it is quite frustrating. Can anyone here help me figure out a way to avoid this? If it helps, I have noticed a general downgrade in overall performance starting two system updates ago (apps opening more slowly, closing unexpectedly more often, etc.). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest OS update.

You can check the notification settings for message.
Settings>Notification Center>Messages>Alert Style
It should be on Banners or Alerts.
Settings>Messages> Turn on Imessage and send as SMS and below that "Blocked" to check if you have any numbers block might be blocking the message.
You can also do a hard reset by holding power and home till it restarts and release after seeing the apple logo.
Still doesn't work? Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings -
As soon as I keep the iPhone (iPhone 5) on the desk the network goes off and when I swipe it then only it starts searching for the network and get it in 30 seconds.
If someone is calling me during that time it says mobile is either switched off or outside the coverage area.

The screen flickers and in a couple of minutes goes grey. Sometimes I can see the background icons. I had the unit to service and was told nothing was wrong. Once the screen starts to go grey, the unit does not respond. The software is up to date and the unit is charged.
Apparently you DO have a hardware problem, but you'll need to be able to show the repair technician the screen while it is acting up if he is to diagnose and repair it.

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet. It's not designed to. if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2. Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

MacBook WLAN goes grey and AP list becomes empty
I have 10.4.8 MacOS X and A-Link RR24AP modem/WLAN AP
After little Internet use over wireless(this is variable) WLAN goes off and icon turns grey with no AP's listed anymore. Only solution so far is to go SLEEP mode and back to ON when everything is just fine.
Even now icon is grey and I had to connect LAN cable which works just fine.
iStumbler did not help me out (WLAN goes grey even that program is running).

I have the same issue on my Aug 2006 MacBook. The WLAN connection (to an ASUS router) logs in ok after startup of the Mac, but drops the connection after a while and the icon goes grey. Apple apparently has been unable to fix this despite multiple updates to WLAN since I got the machine. BTW - a DELL XPS laptop also connects via WLAN to this router and does not exhibit this problem. I personally don't think this issue has anything to do with the make of the router. There may be some timing differences when it comes to the actual air interface messaging protocol, which influence how often and how soon the connection drops, but ultimately only the Apple laptops seem to have this issue.
On the MacBook - the following two things work for me:
1) Just to get the connection back up: Turn AirPort off and then on again.
As a result the connection to the network is reestablished.
2) To keep the connection up: Start a UNIX shell and continuously ping
your local default gateway / router every three seconds or so, e.g.:
ping -i 3 192.168.2.1
Let this command run in the background as long as you need the
connection.
This puts minimal load on the WLAN connection and for me it keeps
the connection in the air while I use the Internet etc.
(Caveat: I had read before in this forum that this method does not
work for everyone. It also does not work for me, if the interval
between pings is too long. 3s does the trick though (10s for example
would not, in my case !))

Why is my screen going grey and then white and cursor gets stuck
Hi there, why would my screen be going grey with pixels on it and then completely white and the cursor gets stuck and then disappears.
I have to click scroller a number of times for it to start working again. When it does the screen colour change from grey to white the writing on the screen disappears aswell.Could be a graphics chip issue. If the machine is newer than October 2011, boot with the 'D' key on its own. Otherwise find the original installer discs, or use this tip to find the age of the machine to make sure you can get the right hardware test with the 'D' key boot. When I attempt to sign out of Hot Mail by clicking "Sign Out," I get the "Sign In" instruction as I always have, however, the green Firefox navigation button remains on bright green (not going to gray) and my MSN home page will not close automatically as usual. I click on the green arrow and I get an instruction to "Sign Out" again. I click on that and get the "Sign In" again but the arrow stays green. I can repeat this countless times and never get signed out and always remaining on the MSN home page. The only way I can close is to go to File and click on Close Window and then my homepage will close and go back to desktop. I've been using Firefox for a couple of years now (IE prior to that for ten years) and have never had this problem. After using "Close Window" I go back onto my home page, from the desktop, and the navigation button is grayed out normally until I sign in again and we start the cycle over again. Have I been hacked?

We have the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0 and all the versions match what is located in the project's bin directory. Does this confirm that I did have XI installed and licensed at one time?
If I purchase a more recent version, couldn't I update the reports to use the newer version? I have all the source code.

Also, just a shot in the dark, but I'm assuming it wouldn't do me any good to simply restore the aforementioned folder to my C drive? Would that work if I registered all the dll's?

To be clear, I do have VS 2003 & 2005, and I have the source code. I just have never used Crystal Reports in any of my .NET apps because the need wasn't there, so recompiling is not out of the question.

Also, I looked at the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll that was in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\Managed folder and when I right-click and view the properties, then the Version tab, in addition to the 11.0.9500.2 version number, there is a property called Product Version that has the value .NET. Does that mean that this dll was bundled with Visual Studio?
I also found this directory on the old server...does this tell you anything?

Firefox url goes grey, and back button no longer works.
Ok so most annoying problem EVER!! Ok so I have this problem where I will be running firefox, browsing the net, and then all of the sudden the url bar will grey out and only the domain root will be solid.
Once it does this, I cannot use the back button, in fact from there on out, many url's will not even show up in the navigation.
The browser works just fine then out of nowhere will start pulling this.
An example would be
