The backlight for my keyboard

the backlight for my keyboard on my new mac book pro (2012 OS X Mountain Lion) is not turning on. Ive tried rebooting and covering the camera. Nothing works... Also I feel like my battery runs out ridiculously fast.

You may have a broken keyboard.  Take your MBP and reciept back to the apple store.  They will exchange it for another one.

  • I have lost the link to the backlight on my keyboard of my macbook

I have lost the backlight of my keyboard and when I go to the 'keyboard' in System Preferences, there is no link. Is it possible to lose this information by using a 'disk sweeper'?

Very straightforward. 10.6 by default does what's called an archive and install, it will only replace your system, you won't lose any files. Just to be safe though you should ALWAYS make a current backup before making any changes in the event that something does go wrong.
Insert your 10.6 disc and restart while holding the C key, should be pretty painless. Remember to run software update when the install is done to get up to date.

Mine appear in gray, too; I think that's just the style.
Does this problem occur on all pages? (If it only appears on YouTube or other pages with Flash players, it may be related to keystrokes being captured by the plugin.)
A standard diagnostic for possible interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If your keyboard shortcuts work correctly, this points to one of your add-ons or custom settings as the problem.
    Any change?

  • IPhone should give the choice for a Keyboard or Keypad!

Apple should release an update that allows the user to select KEYBOARD or KEYPAD when typing text.
What i mean is that the use can have the choice to use the conventional number keypad and use T9 (like regular cell phones) therefore the keys can be bigger which will help reduce the number of errors (millions of people are used to sending txt messages using T9, so the transition to the iPhone will be ever smoother).

They don't give us the choice because the iPhone is designed to choose it for us..
If you notice, the keyboard is quite different on SMS than the email app. Also, different if you're typing a URL on Safari.

  • TS3048 Tiny green light continues to blink and no connection is ever made on the screen for both Keyboard and Mouse

After doing the steps http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048#1 both keyboard and mouse tiny green light continues to blink and no connection is ever made on the screen.  What could the problem be?  Items are only 4 months old.

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.  You will need a KB to reset the PRAM, but the SMC may be reset without any peripherals.

  • Save for Web keyboard key stroke not worky

I'd swear I've asked or seen this discussed in these forums...but I can find no thread, even when I search for my own screen name. At any rate, I think it also happened to me back in version 6. I'm now in version 8 on a Mac.
The symptoms are the same as the last time this happened. The "shortcut" key strokes (on the Mac) are command + shift + option + S (probably use 'alt' instead of 'option and "control' instead of 'command' on Windows?). This will usually show a brief darkening of the File menu, but nothing else happens. Until...the same keys are pressed again! Of course, mousing to the menu item works fine, but I have managed to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome and still press all four keys with one hand! Sometimes I get my cat to help...
Since Adobe is gracious enough to provide about three dozen various pref files, it should be a breeze to start archiving them and deleting the originals. NOT! However, in my searching for the likely pref file, I have discovered that the "Adobe Save For Web 8.0 Prefs" file seems to be AWOL on my System! I have over a dozen backups of that file in Time Machine, despite the fact that they all show exactly the same Modified date, which would normally be the only reason TM would save another copy of the file. This may also indicate why the settings for the Save For Web dialog never remember the last used settings; the file thinks it is getting written to but never changes its Modified date even thought that 'state' is obviously recognized by the OS. But that's all beside the point and I digress...
SO...does anyone remember the 'trick' for getting PSE 6/8 to remember the Save For Web keystrokes the first time they are used, instead of waiting for 'verification?'
    Thanks!

Uh oh. You should have had an uninstaller in the PSE 8 folder in applications. I'm afraid you may have set yourself up for bigger problems by doing it this way. You may well find that you will eventually need to download and run the CS4 cleanscript to get straightened back out again.
You may be correct, but I've had no other problems after all the different un-install methods. The only pieces that are hard to find are those that Adobe chooses to hide deep in System areas. I suppose since they were one of the first Mac developers, they think they have special capabilities to put stuff any and every where they want. As well as special dispensation to do things anti-Mac ways. I can't claim to be a power-user, but I have never, ever felt the need to purchase/use any special "uninstaller" app. And I can't think of another app I've ever owned that even needed an "uninstaller" for it. That includes Canvas, php, Apache setups, etc. Frankly, and this is simply my opinion and obviously of little importance to absolutely no one else, the way Adobe does things seems to be extremely un-organized, not-well-thought-out and downright non-Mac. The only thing even marginally close to their confusing instal/uninstall process is Stanford's Folding@home set up. It sometimes requires a few Terminal commands...
I will perform a search for that CS4 "clearscript" thing, however. Thanks!
Even the response I got from my Support post assured me that...
reset/restore the Preferences, click Yes or OK . Now try to use the "Save for Web" keyboard command by pressing "Alt+Shift+Crtl+S". I am positive that after following the above steps your issue will be resolved .
OK, I get the rest/restore step. but what does the "alt+shift+Crtl+S" have to do with anything? It certainly is not the keyboard short cut for the Mac version of Elements. Perhaps the chap didn't notice the details in my message or the hardware/software information that came with my request for help. I find it strange that somehow the language differences cause the tech's positive belief that his steps would fix the issue that he also presents:
If the issue is still not resolved then please send us the below mentioned information so that we can provide you with the best possible resolution:-
    1. Have you recently made any changes to your computer?
    2. Are you logged in as administrator ?
    3. Does the issue persist on another system or another user account ?
    4.     Do you get any error message while pressing the combination of "Alt+Shift+Crtl+S" keys on the keyboard? if yes then send us the screen shot of the error message that you are getting
    5.     Please provide the exact system Configuration with details along with the Versions.
Every single one of those questions was included with the initial message I sent.
I suspect that the problem is, indeed, in my System, somewhere. I installed Elements on my wife's MBP and it operated normally, even the command+option(alt)+shift+S command. So, when I get some time this week, I'll start up in Safe mode and see if that helps. If not, I'll start removing third-party Pref Panels and apps, a few at a time. If none of that helps, I may try retrieving files from Time Machine. As a last effort, I can always do an Archive and (re)Install of Snow Leopard. I'm just not sure it's worth all the effort to get one measly short cut... The only thing I know for sure is that I will not be seeking any more help from Adobe's "tech support." Why bother, they don't/can't even read the messages their own system sends!

Hi all...  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but the display is very very dark.  A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light.  I think this model has an LED screen.  Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is?  Thank you sooooo much!

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Life of Backlight for Keyboard

Is there any downside to keeping the keyboard light on all the time (other than battery life)?
    Thanks!

    Travis A. wrote:
Hi rndmmac, welcome to Apple Discussions!
Other than battery life and power usage, no, there is not really a downside to having the keyboard backlight on all the time. The backlight in the keyboard (and the display too) is LED now, meaning that the life of that backlight will definitely far exceed the usable life of the computer itself. You could probably leave that backlight on 24/7 365 for 10 years and it would still be going strong.
The usual useful life of an LED is maybe 50,000-100,000 hours. At 50K, that would be maybe 5+ years. It also depends on other factors including how close to maximum output is used. Then there is the occasional random LED burnout.
I wouldn't necessarily count on anything being "typical" since there's a distribution of longevity.

  • Is there a way to set two different settings for the backlight?

I was wondering if there is a way for me to set the backlight to always on when watching videos on my 5G 30 gig iPod and off when doing anything else?
Or do I have to manually go in and change the setting everytime?

The backlight will always be on when watching videos. This is automatic, regardless of the setting.

  • How to find the model number for wired keyboard

i have 2 metallic wires usb keyboards but have no idea what or which model they are. please help me to know. but have some number underneath but clearly not the model number

ok. The thing is. I don't have an imac. but was given 2 keyboards. Both look identical but the USB connection is squared on one and rounded on the other at the side where the wire enters the use. The squared USB keyboard does not work but the other seems to work but has missing keys. to my shock I found the bracket for the keys are different so not interchangeable. I'm hoping to replace the missing keys therefore I need to know what model the keyboard is. looking on ebay I see many keys that all look the same but for different models of keyboard

  • TS3048 I am usng a bluetooth keyboard with my Mac and some of the keys are not working.  They are the numbers 1 through  9.  I have gone through the troubleshooting for mouse and keyboard and everything looks good. How can I get them to work again?

Hi,  I am using a Mac computer that my husband set up.  I have worked on it recently with no problems.  Today, I am having problems with the bluetooth keyboard not  working properly.  The numbers 1 through 9 do not work.  I have gone through troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues and everything looks good.  Except, when I check the keys on the keyboard viewer, these keys still do not work.  The webpage guides me through and at this point I do not know what to do next, because the keyboard is still not working properly.  I sure hope there are some experienced people in the community to help me.  What should I do?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.
