The backlight on my 2nd gen itouch has quit...

The backlight on my 2nd gen itouch has quit... I restored the restored the software, but it didn't help - I'm sure its a hardware problem. Does anyone know what the fix for this might cost? Thanks
I couldn't see any other similar questions until this posted just a second ago - in case in helps with the diagnosis, the backlight does come on intermittently, which made me think it was a software problem, but now I'm just not sure.

I would make an appontment at the Genius Bar of an Applew store.  It is free except for your time.  Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished 2G for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
A third-party place may be less expensive: Here us one.  Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
However, it may not be worth it for a 2G iPod.

  • Broken Backlight, iPod Touch 2nd Gen

So the backlight on my 2nd gen iTouch went out, the digitizer is in good shape, but the backlight is broken. The problems arose after it fell from about 7 feet up onto carpet, but hitting the wall. I used to be able to get it working by locking/unlocking the screen quickly, but after working for about 6 weeks, the backlight finally died.

Try replacing it yourself. You can buy a kit with the tools for under 20.00 on eBay. There are YouTube videos yo walk you through it too.

Not here I'm afraid. This is the *Mac OS X Technologies > iSync* forum, which has nothing to do with syncing iPod touch (not iTouch) to Windows PCs.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Could it be this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • Solitaire City on 2nd Gen. iTouch

I've got Solitaire City on my 2nd gen iTouch. Here's my question for the group. When playing a game and you move a card from the field to the "home row", a bell sounds. On my iTouch I hear a crackle when the bell sounds. I'm just wondering if anyone else hears the same thing, or do i have a screwed speaker.
I hope to hear from others.
    Thanks

    - Purchase and install version 3.0 of the iPhone/Touch software from the iTunes Store.
    - Go into Settings>General and set Bluetooth to On.
Note: The only Bluetooth devices that the Touch will currently sync with are stereo speakers and headphones (NOT headset/mic combos such as you would use with a cell phone).

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

ok, so my itouch 2nd gen starts up only to the apple logo but stops there with the loading thing that looks like a flower. it doesnt connect to my laptop either. it got unplugged while trying to restore it on my laptop and now its not rly working. any help? i alredy tried holding both buttons down like more than 100 times and it still doesnt work. so any solutions?

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then try restoring the iPOd via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:

  • 2nd gen iTouch mic support?

I have a 2nd gen iPod touch (8 gig). I purchased a set of apple earphones with remote and mic. Although the manual for the earphones/mic/remote clearly states that they work with 2nd gen iPod touch I can only get the earphones to work. The iPod won't register that a mic is connected and the remote does not work to advance songs or adjust volume.
Is there something I'm missing here? The earphones have 3 bands on the jack and the jack is fully inserted into the iPod. I tested them using the "Voice memos" and "iTunes" programs as those are native and I would hope wouldn't involve glitches.
I also updated iTouch to OS. That didn't seem to help. Is there some sort of setting I'm missing or did Apple goof on the compatibility statements?

    Can anyone help?

  • 32 gb 2nd gen touch has all my music hard drive had virus

So my hard drive got a virus and i lost a lot of my music. i copied whatever music was left onto an external hard drive and restored my computer to its factory settings and reinstalled itunes 8. my itunes has my old library but can only play the songs which i had the chance to copy. i still have all of my music on my 2nd gen 32 gb ipod touch and was wondering what would happen if i tried to sync my ipod touch to my itunes? Does it matter that the library is the same [because it is the same on my itunes and on my touch]? Will i not lose any of the music on my touch but i just won't be able to play it on my computer? I really just don't want to lose all the music i have on my ipod because i can't get most of it back. What should i do? Thanks for anyone who can help!

what I would do is download a piece of software to pull the songs from your iTouch try: www.ipodrip.com
i've never tried this so can't give comment...sorry.
I wouldnt risk attempting a sync with your iTunes library in that condition if you ave a lot of songs as unless you have a backup, finding all those cd's and other media is a pain in the...sleeping bag
good luck with the recovery. *crosses fingers*
