The Best Battery Charger for our laptops

I stumbled onto a Apple Powerbook charger by newertech.com.
This has always been a problem with having no access to power brick and having batteries
going dead by the hour with no way to charge them while one is being used.
It has 2 charging ports, one for reconditioning on the left and standard charging on the right.
I have 3 batteries where one was just not responding, and would die too fast.
It has cycle count of 176, and a full charge of 1639 as of 01-21-09.
After it went through restore mode for most of the afternoon, it now has a full charge of 1947.
It gets better each time I put it through the restore process.
A second battery was not doing as well, and it really came back great as well.
I found it through Mac sales of Other World Computing, IL. for $150
I ordered there firewire 800 7200 rpm external drives as well. Nice Stuff.
Totally satisfied with this gear.
And get this, it's made in the USA. That's mostly impossible today with China almost making our milk.

Philscbx:
Glad you are happy with your purchases and with OWC.

  • Hi Whats the best solar charger for my i phone 4

Hi. Whats the best solar charger for my iphone 4. Thanks  James

    Hi James,
I do a lot of biking and I found a company called Misuny that make a solar battery charger that your iphone slides into. You can charge it via USB and when I'm out and about it tops itself up by the solar panel. When your iPhone is running low on battery power just press the power button twice and it transfers the charge. It solved my problems! (although i cant make excuses to my wife that my battery ran out anymore!)
misuny.co.uk for UK orders and i think misunycanada.com for US.
    Cheers!

  • HT4110 What is the best battery setting for the MacBook Pro 13 Retina display?

I want to know the best setting for the battery for the MacBook Pro 13 Retina display.

    To add just a little
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles down on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery, but not plugged in all the time. When not being used for several hours, turn it off.
And best "tip" is if its near a socket,...plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)", however again, not plugged in all or most of the time.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
General rule to remember of Lithium batteries is:
Never drain them LOW  & dont always/often store them HIGH
While cycle count is commonly seen to be the “miles” on your Lithium Ion pack cell in your Macbook, which they are, this distinction is not a fine line at all, and it is a big misconception to “count charge cycles”
*A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 50-60% remaining of a 100% charge has better battery usage and care than another person who has 300 charge cycles at say 15% remaining on a 100% charge.
DoD (depth of discharge) is far more important on the wear and tear on your Macbook battery than any mere charge cycle count.  *There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in general OR in specific.    As such, contrary to popular conception, counting cycles is not conclusive whatsoever, rather the amount of deep DoD on an averaged scale of its use and charging conditions.
(as a very rough analogy would be 20,000 hard miles put on a car vs. 80,000 good miles being something similar)
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot overcharge it when plugged in and already fully charged
*However if you don’t plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise) ..*You don’t want your Macbook both always plugged in AND in sleep mode       (When portable devices are charging and in the on or sleep position, the current that is drawn through the device is called the parasitic load and will alter the dynamics of charge cycle. Battery manufacturers advise against parasitic loading because it induces mini-cycles.)
Keeping batteries connected to a charger ensures that periodic "top-ups" do very minor but continuous damage to individual cells, hence Apples recommendation above:   “Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time”, …this is because “Li-ion degrades fastest at high state-of-charge”.
This is also the same reason new Apple notebooks are packaged with 50% charges and not 100%.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your Macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium cells the "80% Rule" ...meaning use 80% of the charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook go into shutdown and safe mode from loss of power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to Lithium cells are instances when often the cells are repeatedly drained very low…. key word being "often"
Contrary to what some might say, Lithium batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity. Same way you don’t take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
Proper treatment is still important. Just because LiPo batteries don’t need conditioning in general, does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesn’t need conditioning.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    Storing your MacBook
If you are going to store your MacBook away for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (room temperature roughly 22° C or about 72° F). Make certain you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery of your Macbook if you plan on storing it away for a few months; recharge your battery to 50% or so every six months roughly if being stored away. If you live in a humid environment, keep your Macbook stored in its zippered case to prevent infiltration of humidity on the internals of your Macbook which could lead to corrosion.
    Considerations:
Your battery is subject to chemical aging even if not in use. A Lithium battery is aging as soon as its made, regardless.
In a perfect (although impractical) situation, your lithium battery is best idealized swinging back and forth between 20 and 85% SOC (state of charge) roughly.
Further still how you discharge the battery is far more important than how it is either charged or stored short term, and more important long term that cycle counts.
Ultimately counting charge cycles is of little importance.  Abuse in discharging (foremost), charging, and storing the battery and how it affects battery chemistry is important and not the ‘odometer’ reading, or cycle counts on the battery.
Everything boils down to battery chemistry long term, and not an arbitrary number, or cycle count.
Keep your macbook plugged in when near a socket since in the near end of long-term life, this is beneficial to the battery.
    Peace

  • What is the best battery configuration for lenovo 420s

I read on the lenovo website that you can get up to 9 hours on the thinkpad 420s and I was wondering if anyone knew the battery configuration to achieve this setting? So far I only get up to 3 hours maximum IF I have it on very low performance. I usually keep it on maximum performance when it's plugged in. Anyone have any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would imagine that would be achieved using a 9-cell battery plus the supplementary battery that can replace the optical drive in the Ultrabay slot. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...

  • What is the best wireless charger for my ipod 4

I got chocolate In the place where I plug my ipod in.

and?  You tap the Mail icon on your home screen, and it opens the Mail app.  There you can read your messages in your Gmail Exchange account.
I currently have my personal Gmail account set up on my phone as an Exchange account that syncs mail, contacts, and calendar.  My office e-mail is Gmail thru Google Apps for Business.  I have that one set up as a normal Gmail account that syncs mail and calendar.  Both of these are accessed through the iOS Mail app.
I also have a 3rd mail account set up, but it accesses my personal Gmail account through the normal Gmail setup and syncs notes only.  This one does not show up in the Mail app since it's not set up to sync mail.  This way I have my notes synced over the air since I do not have anything on my home PC to sync notes otherwise.

    battery charger for tablet

I probably shouldn't be telling you this... but most large retail stores that sell tablets also sell the accessories in store for these charges (plug and adapter both) Normally go for about $20-30 bundled.

  • I bought battery charger for my mac book from the different store, and i want to verify that is genuine product or not?

i brought battery charger for my mac book from the deferent store, and before i plug it to my mac book i want to verify that is genuine product. how do i get to know that?

It should have an Apple part number at the bottom of the charger and an embossed Apple logo on the face of the adapter.
Anyone can stamp a logo on the side, of course, so I would take a good luck at the part number and do an Internet search for the part number, making sure that it's genuine Apple.
    Good luck,

  • Satellite S2410-504: What is the best battery?

    Hi All
I am a complete noob to this but hope that someone can help me out. I have a Toshiba Satellite but I am not sure what model - it says on the back it is s2410-504. Anyways I have had it for about 3 years and I think the battery is kaput since it only stays on for about 15 minutes if unplugged from mains, even when fully charged.
The battery life has always been a bit short. What is the best battery that I can get for my laptop and how long will it last on most energy saving option?

    Hi Cedric,
Battery life is very much dependant on the type of applications that you run on the notebook. Generally speaking, applications which make use of the hard drive or the optical drive will use more battery power than those which are more CPU bound. This is purely because of the amount of power needed to drive the hard drive and optical drive.
In addition, the battery life can be extended to a degree by conditioning the battery as per the Toshiba recommendations, namely to allow the battery to fully discharge periodically and then fully recharging it. By contrast, never allowing the battery to discharge either by keeping the notebook permanently connected to the AC supply or by constantly topping it up when it is only partialy discharged will shorten the battery life.
In your case, if you only get 15 minutes use from your notebook when it is on a fully charged battery then I would definitely recommend a new battery, especially given that the old one is three years old.
As to battery performance, it is usually better to obtain a genuine Toshiba battery although other compatible brands can usually match the original in terms of performance. I would always be wary of batteries which are exceedingly cheap or from a dubious source.
    regards,

  • Do we need a battery app for our iPhone?

Do we really need a battery app for our iPhone?  (search "battery" from the iOS App Store)
    Phishing / Scam
I am more and more in doubt about it.  Even worse, I recently found an app with a new link (with a rocket icon on the upper right corner if you select Memory Boost) that redirect you to a website asking you to give permission (to surrender your security) for them to install a Profile to your iPhone. (Just like your iPhone is a property of their company so they have overall control of your iPhone).  I really suspicious if the battery app is actually a mobile scam / phishing app in nature.
A fallacy of usefulness, and even dangerous
Back to the function of a battery app.  It provides a seem-to-be smart charging method to your iPhone: 1) high speed charge to 80%, 2) continue to charge till full but slowly, then 3) trickle-charge to make use of every charging capacity of your iPhone battery used.  I believe iPhone has provided high speed charge and slow charge already.  So the battery app is actually doing nothing.  Regarding trickle charging, I think it's dangerous. It may over-charge your iPhone battery if you leave it over-night charging.  But without using a battery app, your iPhone will not do trickle charge and will not over-charge the battery.
    Any expert advice?

The iPhone charging system is already smart enough to do what the so called App is pretending to do.

  • Which one of these phones has the best battery lif...

I am going to get a Nokia phone from "O2" store tomorrow. I will either get the Nokia 2700, Nokia 5130 or the Nokia 3120.
The dying Nokia that I am replacing I have had since 2005 and the battery usually lasted over a week between charges. The phone was an inexpensive one, €60 or something. I expect this kind of performance in my new phone.
Which of these phones have the best battery life?

I would vote for 5130 XpressMusic. 5130 and 2700 are on par in terms of battery life. Feature-wise, the former is a tad better. But, it's all about your preference, and the cost.
    Cheers,
