I like encfs too.  Very easy to use, I can do it  on a directory-by-directory basis as needed, and I don't need to mess with pre-allocating loopback files and making sure that they're big enough to hold all the data.
P.S.  Check out the "encfssh" script in that package.  I sent that in to the author and he added it to the package.  (Credit where credit is due:  the script is adapted from the original cfssh script from the old cfs package.)

  • Full disk encryption tool

    Hi,
Im looking for a Full Disk Encryption tool which should be fully compatible with Solaris 10.
    Does anybody know any tool?
    Thanks and Regards.

Right now probably the only way to do this is to buy a hard disk that has that feature by default. They are OS agnostic since it's not done in software.

  • OWB Process Flow - How is the best  version control tool ??

    HI all,
I just start work with OWB and I have a question to know how is the best way to do something.
    Imagine the scenario below:
If I have 2 or more requests for example:
Request 1: Create a Dimension City.
Request 2: Create a Dimension Products.
I Have ONE process flow and i need put my changes inside. This is my problem.
In my scenario I don't know what Request goes to Prod First.
If I put the Request 1 and Request 2 in my PROCESS FLOW, maybe I need change is someone decide change MY REQUEST PRIORITY.
There is something in OWB to "control the version or changes" ?? For a mapping I export the MDL and commit on SVN, but I dont know haw can i do with the process flow.
Something to agree multiples peoples work in different mappings and a SAME PROCESS FLOW ??
What is best way to work with process flow and version control.
What are the best practices when it comes to version control?
    Thanks.

    Amit,
Are you really doing this in 10.1.3.x and not 11g?
At any rate, I don't see how #2 and #3 relate whatsoever to your choice of a version control system. OK, maybe in #2 if there is some "maintenance" activity to be done against the version control server. Subversion is the open source alternative that you listed there and is pretty commonly used. If your company is already using one of the mentioned tools, why change? About the only thing I'd mention is to advise you NOT to use CVS for well documented reasons (JDev does support it) - if you would have picked CVS otherwise, choose Subversion. As far as question #1 - I've only used Subversion (well, I did use CVS for a while) with JDeveloper, so I can say it was "effective enough for me." In 10.1.3.x, I also used the external svn tools for doing lots of things like merging and so forth; in 11g, the support is much much better.
    Best,
    John

  • What's the best client isql tool on windows?

Not sure what's the best UI tool for isql on windows XP?
I have ASE 12.5.4 on Linux. Sybase Central  v6.0 and Interactive SQL on Windows XP
Sybase Central has many errors when I try it connect to Server. Interactive SQL is not convenience to use and it is easy to crash when try to trieve large amount of data.
Any better client tools for developer? like MS SQL Server Management Studio?

    Hi,
Sybase Central should work. Sybase Central uses java. So you might want to check the version of java on your machine. With Sybase Central 6.0 you should have jre6 on your machine. What is the exact build of Sybase Central? If you go to Help and About in Sybase Central at the very top of the screen it should give you the complete build number. I can not recommend another tool, because I use only the native Sybase tools.
What is the default charset set to on your ASE on linux set to?
I think we can get you using the Sybase Central and Interactive SQL working fine.
    Thanks,
    Dawn Kim

  • What is the best Database Administrator Tool

In my one of my earlier organizations DB administration jobs were done with TOAD. In my next organization my Project manager told that TOAD is actually meant for developers. There the tool was DBArtisan. Now in my present company I would have to take the decision to purchase some DB Administration tool. What should I select ? Any of the two ? Or any third one ? If any suggestion comes it will be a great help for me.
    I am using Oracle 8x,9x10g
and the OSs are Unix AIX, Windows etc

It really depends on what you mean by 'Administer the database', 'Database Administrator Tool' and so on. In other words, it depends on what you really want to accomplish.
Many people want a tool to put up pretty pictures and respond to mouse clicks to 'do things'. There are a fair number of tools that accomplish this very well.
TOAD was originally for developers (hence the name Tool for Oracle Application Developer), but it has expanded dramatically to include a number of DBA capabilities. Quest, BMC, Computer Associates and others have excellent tools that are heavily into the 'draw a picture and lead the budding DBA in complacency'.
Even Oracle Enterprise Manager is great from that perspective AND it's free!!! Well, except that you license and pay for the add-on packs that make it truly useful.
To paraphrase Nicolas - the best DBA tool is an intelligent DBA using SQLPlus. All other tools will lead down the path that the tool developer has decided to use. Which may be right for some of the time, but is rarely right all the time, and rarely completely right for the latest and greatest releases of Oracle.

  • What's the best MS SQL tool(s) for managing (creation, updating, deletion, pausing, starting, etc) a bunch of replicated databases?

I'm looking for recommendations on how best to program (scripts, procedures, anything else) managing a set of databases across multiple datacenters. The tasks I would like to be able to do database by database is...
copy a specified database from one server to another ("import") without the user access rights
add replication to the "imported" database objects based on an extended property
update the replicating "imported" database, including changes to the data values, and changes in schema, without bringing down the database (rolling updates across the various datacenters is permitted)
adding/modifying a standard set of maintenance plans for each Database
removing replication from a selected database
I'm familiar with the standard SQL product but have no exposure to the other SQL components like SSIS. I have to date several SQL batch scripts that do parts of the above but it seems there must be a better way. Assume that there is one Enterprise Edition
SQL instance at each datacenter. Replication is transactional Peer 2 Peer. We are also considering if we want to add DB mirroring but have decided not to do so at this time.
BTW I'm one of those people that can't get the "copy database" menu option in SSMS to work. I'm not a DBA but it looks like I'm going to need how to act like one.
    Developer Frog Haven Enterprises

I would recommend you to get involve DBA for any such tasks. The task which are listed it's not going to be simple thing. If you don't have prior experience in High availability configuration, it's really difficulty to manage even if you've any third party.
But you can rely on backup and restore for any third party tools.
To manage database ,configure  and maintain HA you need to have SQL Server HA knowledge.
My testing so far seems to show that it's quite easy to break the replication with changes
to the databases. Using SSMS "canned" wizards and procedures to delete and recreate replication leaves many vestiges behind cluttering up the database instance.
You can create a script to cleanup the replication and re-create it from the scratch

  • Is Drive Genius the best disk utility for Mac?

I just wanted to see if any one had an opinion on Drive Genius? I have one computer that is brand new (Imac) and a Powerbook that is a bit old. I want to keep them both running in tip-top shape.

I've not used Drive Genius and cannot comment on that program but I have used Disk Warrior and Tech Tools Pro and Data Rescue. All three have fixed me up but if I had to choose just one of these it would be Tech Tools Pro because DW is a one-trick pony for the price and I think that Tech Tools Pro can now do what Data Rescue can do. I just didn't have it when I used Data Rescue but the app seems to have caught up doing what the other two can do. More for your money!
BTW: I didn't buy Drive Genius because when I decided on buying Disk Warrior I read some negatives about it. Things like additional corruption caused by running it and inabilities to fix things that seemed like Disk Utility could easily resolve. That was a few years ago so hopefully they fixed some of the failures it had that seemed as valid issues at the time.

  • What is the best cleanup/security tool for Lion

I am looking for a good cleanup/security tool for my iMac. Specifically for Lion. Any recommendations or horror stories will be appreciated.

anti-virus is not necessary unless you have Windows installed on a seperate partition.  Security tools aren't necessary either.  You are on a mac, not a pc.  Totally different worlds.  You can download Disk Doctor from the app store for 99 cents.  And if you insist on an a/v program, install ClamXav (it's free-do a google search for it)

  • What are the best disc doctor tools

Okay, my G5 is running like a Commodore 64! It is SLOW and freezing all the time! it freezes on iPhoto, Mail, ..... just about anything actually to the point where it won't force quit and we are having to hold down the old international reset button.
What are the steps to go down. I've run the standard TechTool tests which seemed to pass okay. Can somebody give me the process to go through here...
I haven't Loaded any new software recently, nothing dramatic has changed on our Mac... it started to slow down so the only changes I have made is to move alot of gear off our HD and onto a external drive.
We have 191 GB free, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM. Please... I am about to throw this out for a new computer but feel a computer with this much grunt should be able to be salvaged.
    Please help!!

The most important thing to do is backup your data as my FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Next check that the problem isn't occuring in a second user in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts.
If it is, then you have a system wide issue. If you have a system wide issue, the first utility I'd try is Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Next if that doesn't work, verify disk. If verify disk reveals errors, boot off the 10.4 installer disk to repair disk as my directory FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If the directory is good, try running Macjanitor:
    http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html
If you still don't have the problem solved, go over this FAQ on the fonts:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607630
If you still haven't solved the problem, then I'd ask if you have ever seen a kernel panic with no third party peripherals attached. Here's my FAQ on kernel panics:
    http://www.macmaps.com/kernelpanic.html
If you have, I suggest replacing the RAM.

  • What are the best optimization & cleaning tools for Mac OS X?

I found a great app called MacKeeper, but it cost $500!?! I have OnyX, but it not so good because it just clean your mac and has given my mac some problems.
I really want to fix and clean my mac and give it top performance, because my windows 7 is now faster than my mac in boot camp, and my mac boot up speed is so slow, it actually slower than my 7 years old windows xp laptop!

It takes 3 minutes to get into the log-in screen. My apps bounces for 20 secs.
Then you need to begin reading the [Mac OS X speed FAQ|http://www.index-site.com/Macosxspeed.html] that you were referred to. It does sound like you're having a performance problem, but using a "cleaning tool" to do things like clear caches, run the periodic scripts, etc without a specific reason for doing so is not the right solution. You could just as easily break things worse without solving any problems. It's like firing multiple shotgun blasts into your walls, while blindfolded, to try to solve a mouse problem.
When I scanned my computer with AppKeeper, it said 1700 useless junk files and 12 performance problems.
Without knowing what those are, we have no idea how legitimate those claims may be. Some AV software will label "tracking cookies" as a danger when they are not. As sad as it is, some software companies will play up "problems" in order to sell software to solve those "problems."

  • The best SQL query tool to visualize data relationship

Bay Breeze Software just released SQL Edge 1.4, please refer to http://www.baybreezesoft.com for product details.
SQL Edge is an Eclipse Rich Client application that allows users to execute SQL queries, browse schema information in ER diagrams, and visualize data relationships. With SQL Edge™, users can use only one query to retrieve data in a master table, and then browse data in all related detail tables. Users can also insert, edit, and delete table records in the data grids.
SQL Edge™ has five perspectives. The "Query Perspective" allows users run any SQL queries, while the "Schema Perspective" displays table schema information.
There are two relationship perspectives. The "Relationship Table View" displays data in the master-detail style. The "Relationship Tree View" displays master table records as top-level tree nodes. The nodes can be expanded to reveal any level of related detail records. In addition, clicking any node will display the corresponding data in a detail grid.
The "Model Perspective" displays tables and their relationships in ER diagrams. The tables can be from different databases. Users can define master-detail relationships among these tables, and print or save the diagram for future reference.
The version 1.4 added following features:
    (1) Added support for synonyms and CLOB data type.
    (2) Added load on demand feature to support large result sets. In query perspective and relationship table view, a selection query will only fetch enough rows to populate the data grids. Users can scroll down the grids to fetch more rows if needed.
The version 1.3 added following features:
    (1) Added model perspective to display tables and their relationships in ER diagrams. The tables can be from different databases. Users can define master-detail relationships among these tables, and print or save the diagram for future reference.
    The version 1.2 features are:
    (1) Support any JDBC compatible databases.
    (2) Allow users to specify JDBC drivers at run-time, and provide wizards to help setup JDBC connections. Easy to install, and easy to setup.
    (3) SQL editor with syntax highlighting based on currently connected databases.
    (4) SQL edtior allows users to execute SQL queries asynchronously. Users can cancel the execution by click the "Cancel" button or just close the SQL Editor.
    (5) Schema perspective displays the table schema information, including column definitions, primary key, indexes, and foreign keys.
    (6) Relationship table view displays the related data in the master-detail style, with master table data shown in the top grid, and all related detail table data in a list of bottom grids.
    (7) Relationship tree view displays the master table records as top-level tree nodes, and the related detail records as child nodes. Click any of these tree nodes will display the corresponding record data in a detail grid.
    (8) Allow users to insert, edit, and delete records in the master and detail grids of the relationship table view and relationship tree view.
    (9) Allow users to define master-detail relationships even between tables in different databases. This enables the relationship table view and relationship tree view to display data relationships between tables in different databases or without pre-defined foreign keys.

Good to know. Thank you for the information.
    Bye, Aron

  • What is the best GUI DBA tool

I'd like to use a pure Java open source GUI DBA tool.
DataBrowser from http://www.jetools.com is not so bad but it relies on hand-written SQLs
too much. I like to have a more fully GUIed tool for routine DB administration tasks because
writing complex SQLs is always error-prone and shaky.
