The best multimedia player?

I've bought a Macbook the last month so i'm not a big expert
With WinXP i use BSPlayer as video player, but for OSX what is the best player?
VLC is good, but per me is VERY VERY important the chance to adjust the subtitles during the movie.
In addition,VLC show the sub with a very large character, even if I choose it very small.
Thanks to all!

Of course it's all personal opinion, but as a multimedia player only, the best application for OS X is probably QuickTime. The easiest to use is probably VLC (especially liked for it's built-in codecs and free full-screen support).
I personally keep QuickTime, Apple DVD Player and VLC handy at all times; between them there hasn't been anything I couldn't do.

Whatever works the best for you. Flash, as a program, is so inconsistently coded that there is no singular best player. Some work with one site better than others.
Try looking for ones that have a free trial so you can see how it works for you.

First try deleting Flash Player by carefully following the instructions on Adobe's website:

Then install it again from this location only:

  • What is the best media player to use on iBook  500MHZ, 576MB RAM

Can anyone advise me what is the best media player to use to play .avi files on my iBook. I have tried using Quicktime (7.6.4) with Perian installed and it is very choppy. I have also tried VLC (0.8.6i)and that's not much better.
My iBook is 500MHZ, 40GB HDD, 576MB RAM running MAC OS X 10.4.11 with all updates installed. I have also disabled dashboard and spotlight but that's not made much difference.
    Many thanks

    Well, now, isn't that interesting?
I left my iBook G3 800 MHz in Mac OS X 10.3 because I believed that upgrading to 10.4 would tax it too much. Others have successfully run 10.4 on their iBook G3s, and with the upgraded hard drive, I would have thought you'd be okay with it.
I generally don't do more than one upgrade of the OS past what my Mac came with. When I want to upgrade further, I upgrade my Mac.
I'm glad you figured out something that would work for you. Posting back to let us know may help someone else in the future, so thank you for that.

  • What is the best media player for Ipad 2

what is the best media player for Ipad 2?
Is it VLc? if so, where can I find the VLC media player

Im going to go ahead and assume your talking to me?
I ended up in this thread in search of a functional Exchange ready mail client capable of supporting multiple mail profiles. Since there are no free applications to accomplish this in the app stor, which I can find, I figured I'd leverage the 'community' for some direction before throwing good money after bad.
As I assume Im not the only one to do this, I figured I'd help straighten these folks out on the lingo (as they werne't applying it properly) and the sassy 'sound like apple users' comment references the way ANTI-apple folks assume you people are less than adequite users.
If I called an apple an orange, you would say I was wrong. If I did it repeatedly, after correction, you would assume Im incompetant.
Seriously, its a stupid machine and will only do what you tell it. (true for all computers, apple or otherwise)
So if I ask for a mail client, dont give me a provider. If I ask for a service, dont name a client.
Your right, this post is old. And stilll doesnt have an answer. . .
In response to MichelPM, I didnt call your baby ugly. The 'Bandwagoning' is cute though. My advice is sound, and helping you folks not to look so... well... stupid.
Since you interceded though, how about a little help? What mail client do you use? Is it exchange Compatible, with active sync? Does it offer multi-profile support? And the clients want images in their signatures, and multi signature support. (I can do this with my android phone )
Im looking forward to your responses.

  • If zen Micro had more space it would b the best mp3 player ev

if the Zen Micro had more space... it would THE best mp3 player EVER... HANDS DOWN!... hint hint
I want the Zen Touch...(my bday is tomorrow)...and I am getting the FM remote thingy too. I would have bought the Zen Micro but I have 20.4 gigs of music which I am compressing right now....5 gigs is too limiting. I would LOVE it if the Zen Micro had more space! Only then would I get rid of my Touch.....

The Zen Micro uses a different type of storage to the Zen Touch, unfortunately at the moment the sizes of the storage media don't allow for something as small as the Micro to store 20GB. The Zen Touch uses a hard-dri've.
Thanks for the comments though, I'll be sure to pass them on.

  • HT5271 What's the best Flash player to use with a (pre-Intel) G5 Mac OS 10.5.8 using Safari 5.0.6?

I'm using my wife's old G5 running OS 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.6. Being denied access to streaming video sites like Netflix because of out-of-date flash player. Is there any newer iteration I could download that wouldn't be counterproductive (by disabling what does work now on Hulu and YouTube, etc). I gather that Adobe may have jettisoned the non-Intel Macs. I can't even find the specs on this G5's player. It doesn't show up as a plug-in on System Preferences' Network list, as it does on my MacBook Pro. Any options you can suggest would be appreciated. Thanks.

Might be later ones around also... saw 11.3 I think. 10.5 now.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • What's the best video player

Hi all, I have been looking into video players for a website I am building and I wanted to get your opinion on what you think is the best out there.
I would prefer to have the videos hosted away from my server (embedded) to reduce strain on it, but I can't use vimeo because some videos are blatant adverts, and my client doesn't want to use youtube because of the adverts that appear all over the place!
can you recommend services that would allow me to embed video rather than host
OR can you recommend a method that isn't going to drain resources of the webserver I am hosting the site on.
This site will be linked with national TV advertising, so it needs to be fairly robust just in case there is a huge load placed on the site for streaming video.
I don't mind if your solution is flash based only because the site revolves around a flash game, so they need to be on a PC that is flash capable.
    Thanks.

  • What is the best Mp3 player from Creat

    Good forum members,
i am looking for a mp3 player with a good fm radio too. That can receive good radio stations.

Best? It depends what your needs are, and what your budget is. For me, I prefer using a player that is powered by a AAA or AA battery, and I carry at least one spare battery. For me the most important thing is not to be without power when I want to listen to my player. For others, a larger storage capacity is more important. Do you want to view photos or video on your player? The players with the largest storage capacity(perhaps 8 gigs or more?) use a hard dri've. Those with a smaller storage capacity use flash memory(except some old models). I would not even consider a player that uses a hard dri've since a hard dri've can easily be damaged by the shock of dropping it, or by vibration.

  • What is the best cd player attachment for macbook pro retina

I have loads of CD's to download onto my itunes but have no CD player.  Is there a player/recorder that I can attach?
    Does anyone know.

Not sure what you mean by "attachment" -
The question was about a player/recorder, also known as a burner when used with a computer. Any burner will also function as a player with a computer (as in "read and write") - just attach the drive and insert a CD or DVD. iTunes will however, most likjely, attempt to immediately import the song - that is its default behavior. I have other audio software, so I can bypass iTunes as I don't care to use it. And this is what I am referring to:

  • HT201840 What is the best Midi player to play Midi files from my Mac to my keyboard?

I am having trouble outputing midi files from my Mac to my Clavanova keyboard. I am using a an XMIDI 1x1. When I use it on a Windows computers Window Media Players opens and it works just fine. I have also tested it in Midi Studio and it works. I just can't get files to play on my keyboard.

The deal with syncing contacts is that you either do so through iTunes, with a supported application on your computer, or over-the-air with something like iCloud. You don't do both at the same time. Doing so will create duplicates & a mess. As to whether one is better than the other, that's up to you. Over-the-air keeps everything in sync across all your devices, automatically, but relies on the stability of the iCloud servers. With your computer, requires that you regularly sync, to keep stuff updated, and that you maintain a current backup.
