Size is not the issue. In the old iPhoto you used to be able to share a video and it would compress it to fit an email friendly size. It doesn't do that anymore from iPhoto. I miss that feature. I have to export the video from iPhoto to my desktop then take into the old Quicktime 7 to share in email. Crazy.
It shouldn't be that complicated. I shouldn't have to find a work around. I guess apple wants to put  you in a box so you have to do it "their way" via uploading to iWeb or iCloud instead of emailing video.
I don't like those options being taken away.  While the quality may suffer by compressing for email, it is still the most direct and unconvoluted way of sharing something fairly quickly. I don't want to have to post to YouTube or Vimeo or iCloud and send a link. Just compress the video and hit send in an email and be done with it.

  • What is the best way to record a video(not big) for free on a mac w/isight?

What is the best way to record a video(not big) for free on a mac w/isight? I need to just make a short (less than 5 minute, no special effects) video, but I can't figure out any programs that will make this possible for me.
    Thanks.

    Hi Carolyn,
you can use iMovie to record a video for free on a Mac with iSight.
    1. Open iMovie HD
    2. Choose “Create a new project”
    3. Name the project for example “iSight Movie” (first field). In the second field, let the default location “Sequences”, in the third one, video format, choose “iSight”. Push “Create”
    4. iMovie window opens, next to the scissors, choose the camera (Camera mode), then iSight. Now you appear on the screen, right?
    5. Press “Record with iSight” in the main picture window.
    6. Press the same button to stop. Your new clip appears now in the clip panel at the right.
    7. You are done!

You can share songs, but if there is DRM protection on the song, it will not play on the other device unless you also transfer the rights to the other device. You are getting into the problem of music piracy.

  • What is the best way to preview Images

I'm trying to figure out if Lightroom is the best software for the first part of my workflow and if so, how to do it.
When I import images, I copy them to my hard drive and at the same time to my backup drive. Before doing that, I want a good preview of the images and get rid of garbage that I don't even want to back up.
To do anything with images in LR, you have to import them first. Since I shoot in Raw, I'm limited in my choice for viewing the images first. Sometimes, I will start Bridge and use my normal rating system on the cards and delete garbage before importing into LR. My problem with this is that Bridge is slow and the reason I moved to LR in the beginning, Also, I'd rather keep my workflow within as few pieces of software as possible. (My opinion is that LR should come with CS and demote Briidge to Elements, but that's a different thread.
I'm looking at another software for sorting and rating, but again, this is more expense and overhead on something LR should be able to do.
Anyway, I am looking for the best way to get this done in LR, or alternatives that others are using.
    Thanks

The much maligned import module in the LR3 beta will do what you want.  You can view the images on your card in loupe view and decide which ones to import.  It is not grease lightning, but not bad on my PC.

  • What is the best way to export a video for broadcast using FCE?  H264?

I need to get the best quality HD video for broadcast using final cut express and I need to know all info and settings please?

    Hello,
You need to find out from the broadcaster what specs they require you to meet.  H.264 is probably not it.

  • I need help figuring out the best way to convert analogue video to DV so that I can edit it.

I have a large number of VHS and hi8 tapes that I want to convert to high quality DV.
I have a couple of options. One is an Elgado Video capture system.
The other is a Sony Digital Media Converter Box (DVMC-DA2).
I have tried a few of the less important tapes using the Elgado Video Capture system. It only allows you to convert to MPEG4 or H.268. It is not very good quality, especially for archival items or items I would later wish to edit.
I also have the Sony Digital Media Converter Box. I have heard that this is a superior option. So far, though, I have only been able to figure out how to import using an old version of iMovie HD. This makes a large imovie project file (approximately 6.18GB for a 28:30 clip vs a 348.9MB for an MPEG4 using delgado.
On top of that to convert the file from an iMovieProject file to DV is an additional step that so far looks like will take a half an hour at best.
Is there any way for me to import VHS/hi8 tapes using the Digital Media Converter Box to creat high quality DV files directly? If so, where can I find this info? What steps should I take and what are the settings I should use.
I have a lot of tapes so I want to figure out the right and most efficient way to do this because I will be repeating it a bunch of times and would hate to have to start over again.
I should also mention that I am using a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, with OSX 10.9.1
I'm sorry in advance if this seems like an obvious question, but I have been googling and looking at tutorials on the site and just have not found the answer. There are a lot of ads for expensive low quality services to do this converting for you, so maybe the answer I am looking for is burried in all that advertising.
    Thanks

Thanks Biggles and Gotz. I just couldint find capture, but now I can! (It was right under my nose too).
I'm trying it now and it appears to be working. Do you have any other recommendations for capturing from hi8 video source as far as setting go? I am using DV to capture. Are there any other settings I should pay attention to?
There is an extra line of video noise at the bottom, but when I google it, it sounds like it won't show on most standard tvs and if I want to fix it for online, that I should mask it after the fact vs scaling up the video.

  • What's the best way to trim a video file?

I have a big mov file (143 GB). I just need to trim a part of that file quickly. I tried to trim and save it as an mp4 but the quality turned out awful. I just trimmed and saved it as an mov but it's taking forever. Is there any quicker way I can do this?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Email isn't really designed for large file transfer and so most videos of a few minutes or more at an acceptable quality can't be sent.
Sign up for a free YouTube account and upload the video and set it as private. You can then invite people to watch the video.
If the person on the other end needs to be able to edit the video then I'd suggest snail mailing a CD/DVD.
If quality isn't an issue then you can use the Export options in Quicktime Pro to make the video file size small before you email it.

  • What is the best way to combie three video angles to make a goodlooking DVD

I filmed a Christmas pagnent for my church and I used three different Cams. I am going to use the audio from the main cam but I wanted to transition some of the other cams in. I am finding it hard to view each angle and then cut and match it with the sound. Is there any easier way to do this??? Thanks.

    Hi souphog,
Lining up video from one clip to the audio of another is a challenge, but it can be done. And depending on a lot of variables, it may not even be necessary to line them up perfectly. However ...
Ideally, you kept all 3 cameras running continuously throughout the performance ... if so, you have 3 long clips and you will only have to sync them once. Put your main clip on V1(a1/a2), the second clip on V2(a3/a4) and third clip on V3(a5/a6). Then unlink and delete the audio tracks that are on a3/a4 and a5/a6. You may also find it convenient to unlink V1 from a1/a2 and turn off V1 and V3 while you work on syncing V2 with the audio on a1/a2.
It helps if you use markers a lot, turn on audio waveforms and expand the track sizes. First, if you unlinked V1 from a1/a2, put markers at the same location on V1 and a1/a2 so you can realign them if you accidently push the audio out of sync with V1.
Then focus on sync'ing V2 with the audio on a1/a2. Find a location where you know a certain sound is associated with a corresponding action. Put a marker near that location on a1/a2 and near the corresponding location on V2. Then move the video clip on V2 to the right or left in order to line up the two markers. Then expand your timeline around that area and keep noodling like this. You will eventually get the audio & video lined up. It takes a lot of playing & replaying around that area to get the match perfect, and sometimes you have to get down to the single frame level, but it can be done. Then save your project. Then use a similar process to sync V3 with the audio on a1/a2.
Once V1, V2, V3 and a1/a2 are lined up, try using Piero's QuarterPIP effect to give you a multi-cam like canvas and then use the razor tool a lot to make cuts where you want to switch from one camera to another. Then delete the sequence clips you don't want, leaving gaps in place (don't close the gaps). If you want to use transitions you will have to drag the appropriate sequence clips that are on V2 or V3 down into the corresponding empty spaces on V1.
I hope this made sense. It's not as hard as it sounds, but it can get tedious especially if you have a close up of a person speaking or singing and absolutely have to have the sync dead on.

  • My fiancee lives in the Philippines, I have a mac and ipad2, what is the best way for us to video chat?

How can I video chat with my fiancee who lives in the Philippines? I have a mac and ipad2 she has a pc? We havew been using Skype but the sound and video quality are not very good. is it because of the distance or because I am not a paying member?

How good are the internet connections you are using?
I've found that a faster connection improves the quality tremendously. I regularly Skype from France to Australia using a 20mb connection (France) and 8mb connection (Australia) and the quality is superb most of the time. When I only had a 1mb connection the call quality was often quite poor.
I've only ever used the free service so I'm not sure paying would make any difference.

  • What's The Best Way To Delete Unwanted Video In PE8 Or Hard Drive?

    Hey There:
I've completed & burned some good looking 8+ hour dual layer dvd's = Fantastic Software!  I love the menu's.  Now, to clean up My files & Hard Drive for more space, what should I do?  If I delete all the CAObjectsTrackResults & Or The PE8 Auto-Save files named I know I don't want, what would happen?  Would that delete what I want to save? If I Delete only the files I named & I don't want would that clear up space?  There is a very long list in the CAObjectTrack of named copied & unnamed VTS_01_????.  Is it ok to delete those extra named copied files?  I've deleted all the files on my C: & desktop for more space that I can see and want deleted.  Is that all I can do for more space because I loaded or copied over 40 hours of video.  What other folder are the files in on the C: or PE8?

    Thanks A Bunch, Ben!

    Benl,
It all depends on what you might wish to do in the future. If you are totally done with your Project, and will never revisit it, or use the Assets from it in other Projects, then you can just use Windows Explorer to just Delete them all.
One can use the Project Archiver to store the Projects on, say an external, in case one later wishes to revisit it.
I only work with either Copies of my Assets (stored on an NAS), or in the case of Captured material, I retain the original miniDV tapes, so I can just Delete the root folder of a Project, and clear things out, if I know I'll never revisit that Project.
If you wish to clean up a Project, but keep it around, then you can Delete all Render files, the CFA & PEK files, and your Burn to Folder VIDEO_TS folders. Those can either be recreated (the CFA & PEK will be done so automatically), or created again, with another Burn to Folder.
Hope that helps, and for more complex answers, you need to look into your "crystal ball" a bit, and let us know whether you will ever need an Asset, or revisit that Project again.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • HT1338 best way to extract a video from a website?

what is the best way to extract a video from a website? THANKS!

how bout a bit more thought on this one, some people are trying to pull a video clip from their 15 seconds of fame on channel 7 news,
or perhaps a short intro video clip, on a site they own becuase it is playing as flash. since they never had hard copy of the video clip, its difficult to ask themselves for permission, if they don't know how, which is, i'm sure, why this fellow did indeed ask.
no such thing as dumb questions...just helpful ones that others may also wonder.

  • Best way to share a video with someone in another city...

What is the best way to share a video with someone in another city?
I know that FCPX contains all sorts of share options which create different resolutions and file sizes appropriate for different sites like YouTube, Facebook, and others.  But how to create the videos really isn't the problem.
I want to know how to share them.  I'm creating videos that are ultimately to be viewed on the internet.  When I have a completed video, I want to show it to the person who it is for before I finalize it.  I know that if it very small, I could email it.  And if it's larger, I could use something like Dropbox.  But I don't necessarily want them to have a copy of it (though I could do that and put a watermark on it).
I'd like to upload it to a site like YouTube or Vimeo, but those sites seem to be about sharing videos with a wide audience.  I know you can make a video private on YouTube, but, from what I've read, they permanently have the right to use the content, which I definitely don't want.
So what's the best way to do this?  I'm going to have to do it regularly, so I'm willing to pay for a service if it assures privacy and does not try to assert some right to my content.
I know there is an issue to be considered with people screen capturing content, but I'll use a watermark to lessen the chances of that.

    Hi Russ--
I'll have to read through Vimeo's terms of service, but I have to think they're asserting some right to the content like YouTube does.
Plus, these are commercial videos, and I don't think they allow that.  Of course, if they're private, I'm obviously not trying to sell anything.  But I have to think that it somehow is against their TOS since me posting a bunch of private videos that nobody can see really doesn't do them any good at all.

  • What is the best way to share HD movies?

I am thinking of moving from digital8 recording to HD (leaning toward HDD or SD instead of miniDV as the later seems to be getting obsolete). Now I can burn a DVD to give to low-tech family members. It does not sound like I will be able to burn HD DVD's, so what will be the best way to share home videos with family members?
Also for archiving purposes, is it easy to hook up a "backup hard-drive" to store family movies for posterity?
    Message was edited by: verb356

Personally, I use MobileMe and let my family watch the movies on line. It is easy to share this way. I share the movie in Large (960x540) or Medium to iTunes. Then I share to Mobile Me.
For personal viewing, I use the Apple TV.
You can also burn a data DVD of your finished movie, and let them copy the file to iTunes from their data DVD.
You can upload the movie to other video sharing services such as YouTube or Vimeo.
You can burn a blu-ray disk if you have Toast and a BluRay burner. You can burn a short movie to regular DVD media using Toast and a regular DVD burner that is playable on most BluRay Players.
