The best way to print a small poster?

I am a hobby user (Illy CS3) and don't have access to a printer to print anything larger than DIN A4 and I need to make a small poster. I've made a collage as a gift consisting of photos of friends with their well-wishes in speech bubbles. I was thinking of exporting it as a .jpg file and uploading it to an online photo service to have it printed. If I make the artboard the size of the finished poster (e.g. 50 cm x 75 cm) will this work ok? If so, do you have any tips on the settings I should use when making the .jpg file? Or should I do something else altogether?
I would appreciate any advice you have to offer.

Updated: the collage was done in CS4 on my daughter's computer, but whether CS3 or CS4 probably doesn't make any difference.

A large size photo print will be expensive. Better to use a quick copy centre like Kinkos. Call digital print shops in your area and find out how large then can print. For not much more than a couple of bucks you should easily find 11×17 or 12×18. Even larger shouldn't set you back as much as ten bucks.
Whatever size you decide on, set up your document to that size and scale all artwork. The finished, scaled resolution of any imported images should be 200 pixels per inch or better for best results. Use File > Save a Copy to save a PDF as Press Quality. Turn off Include Illustrator Editing Capability.

Depends on what you want printed. You can do something like System.out.println(myTable);but you may not like what you see. If you want to print anything else, extend JTable and create a new toString() method that prints out what you want.
As for printing a SQL statement - assuming it is in a String, you can just do System.out.println(mySQLStatement);

What's the best way to copy a big poster and print it out?

I'm doing a big art project (around 5ft by 5ft), where I'm going to draw stuff out by hand, and would like to make a copy of that project by scanning it into the computer, or taking high-res photos of the project and compiling them together in the computer, and then printing the image out at that size, or bigger. So, I will have the original, 5x5ft, and a printed copy.
What's the best way of doing this?
I hear that vector images are ideal for this, so is Illustrator recommended for this?
I know it's a vector graphics program, but is there any way I can take a bitmap image from a scan or photo, and somehow turn it into a vector? If this is not possible, what recommendations would you have?

Take the photo in one shot by a camera with 24MP, e.g.

This should be sufficient for a poster reproduction 5ft square
as a raster image.
For vectorizing one doesn't need high resolution (it's often
recommended to blur the source image).
Perspective and lens corrections can be applied by Photoshop,
but the lighting should be well balanced.
Barrel distortion by wide angle lens is really no problem.

What is the best way to print a CD Label

I am not a web-designer or work in advertising. But I do have lots of DVDs and CDs I've created (most of them are videos & photos of my daughter) and currently I am only labeling them with a marker.
I really want to have a nice looking (somewhat professional look) of CD Label. I purchased those CD Labeling Kit, but I want to "customize" my label, not using one of the free template that they've given. I do have several of CD Labels made and they turned out ok (I use Photoshop CS). But everytime I print a CD Label, it always take me 3 to 4 times to get it right. This really has wasted me ink. What I meant to "get it right" is the print is printed exactly or a little bit more than the "circular" part on the sticker. Also, some time what looks good on the screen, it came out fuzzy on the printout (eventhough I printed it on 300 dpi).
Anyway, what's the secret to print a customize CD Label, and got it printed exactly on the circular part of the label/sticker? Is it wort it to get one of those printer that can print the label straight onto the CD? I heard that in the long run, having the sticker is not good.
Any suggestions is appreciated.

I use Discus 3.6 which is a label program which is packaged with Toast.
You do have to have a tempate holder to stick the label on the CVD.
There is no question that printing on the disk is the best solution especially with DVDs as they spin much faster than CDs.
I have had some issues with other people reading the DVDs and that may be attributed to that missalignment or the burning speed.
In Toast there is a method of burning slection. Be careful as there are CD speeds and DVD speed slelectons. Use the right one.

Using TestStand 2.0, what is the best way to run a smaller sequence, in parallel to the main sequence, and access the main sequence's FileGlobals?

I did ask this a while back and appreciate your responses. We did upgrade to TestStand 2.0. The basic problem is that I have written and TestStand sequence to test Avionics black boxes. We use Excel to specify the signal names and input data and expected output data for thousands of test cases. My LabVIEW VI's are small generic modules that refer back to TestStand to determine how to set or get the signals. This way, on other projects, we simple change a few signal names, instruments, and were good to go. We use Analog, Digital, Pulse Trains, Synchro Resolvers, LVDT/RVDT, power supplies, logic analyzers, ... to perf
orm these test. The TestStand sequence can run different black boxes on difference test benches based on the data contained with the TestStand FileGlobals. Now I have come across a special situation where in a couple of input signals are set based on a couple of output signals. I developed a short sequence to read the output signals, compute the values of the inputs signals, and set the instrument to send that data to the UUT for those couple of signals. Anyway, I have to reference the FileGlobals to determine what the instruments are and how to access them are used for the signals involved. Since I have a lot of FileGlobal data, I can not pass it as parameters to the parallel sequence.
What I would like to be able to do is just reference the main sequence's FileGlobals as if they were the parallel sequence's FileGlobals.
I am willing to send a copy of the sequence being used to whomever thinks they know a good way to accomplish this if it would help them to determine what I am t

Yes, when you set the font size to Auto, the font size shrinks to include all the entered text in the visible area. Otherwise the hidden the text is not displayed and you see observe a "+" sign. You might also want to consider the option to make your form flowable using Adobe LiveCycle Designer.

Whats the best way to print stems?

I need to make stems to import into pro tools. Say I have 10 stereo tracks with inserts and aux sends and basically a whole mix. I want to print stems so I can import the mix into pro tools and work on it at another studio. In pro tools I could route things to stereo busses and then make stereo tracks with the inputs set to those busses. I can figure out how to make the output of a channel a stereo bus. Is that possible?

It's easy. I have been doing this for a while now. Just solo the track(s) you need to Bounce. What I do to make it fool proof at the Pro tools end is: Set the Locators to the full length of your song. say bar 1 to whatever 70. Easily done by just dragging the cycle in the Bar line the full length of the song. Then hit the Bounce button. Then check your settings. Check the locator settings as well in the Bounce window. I set my audio settings to 24 bit 48 Khz wave file. Then hit bounce and you're away. Repeat the same procedure for all the individual tracks or leave all tracks on soloed to do the full mix. I do my bouncing offline and make sure Normalize is not ticked. Good luck.

The Print Control App allows me to Print, Scan, Copy and Capture without wires. It also allows me to send email to my printer.

I have my little personal archive in HTML and images and a few audio & video clips. Let's say it is 10GB. I want to pack it into an App for offline viewing. Any suggestions? I'm will to do a lot of glue translation hacking to make something good.

If you're planning on doing some programming as part of that packing, then I'd head over to the developer forums with this question. (If you're creating an app for iOS, then you have that access.) Another option is one of the iOS-related mailing lists (maybe Cocoa-Dev). And yes, APIs for accessing photos are available.
A somewhat left-field option is the iBook Author tool.
