Thanks.Are you experiencing any problems with the number of Threads you have? If not, stop worrying. On the other hand, are you sure you need all of them? There are alternatives to Threading, such as SwingWorker and Timer that might be able to help you out.
One thing you better make sure of is that you're not doing any Swing work off of the EDT, or doing things like sleeping or time-consuming work on the EDT. -

I do not have this green battery and the plugin icon, instead I have gray battery like this:
Strange thing is that it is resistant to any changes in Power Manager Advanced Options - whatever I check: hide, show, small icon, big icon - it stays as it is.
I use Win7 64bit.
Any ideas?

Concerning Power Manager: First, let's make sure of the obvious. Have you tried removing and re-installing your battery and making sure it is making good contact?
Assuming your battery is not the problem,
go ahead and uninstall "Hotkeys."
Hotkeys version 3.81.0100 currently includes 5 separate components which you will see in your list of programs:
- On Screen Display
- Thinkpad Full Screen Magnifier
- Lenovo System Interface Driver
- Lenovo Auto Scroll Utility
- Lenovo Patch Utility
Use Control Panel and make sure to un-install all of these. (You may never have installed Hotkeys. If so, skip this step Or, if you have installed a previous version which does not include all of these components, just un-install any of these you find).
Next, use Control Panel to un-install "Power Manager," and "Lenovo Power Management Driver." Yes, "Power Manager" is different from "Lenovo Power Management Driver." (It sounds like like you may never have installed "Lenovo Power Management Driver" so just skip that one if you don't see it in your list of programs.)
Tip: Older versions of "Power Manager" may be called "Thinkpad Power Manager" or "Lenovo Power Manager." We're now up to version 6.36.
Reboot as prompted during the un-installation process.
Now, go to the Lenovo Drivers and Software page here and enter your type/model number.
Install the following software in this order:
(1) First, install "Lenovo Power Management Driver" from the Power Management section.
(2) Next, install "Hotkey Features Integration" from the Software and Utility section.
(3) Finally, install "Power Manager" itself. (Version 6.36 you see there is the latest version).
Reboot as instructed during the installation process.
As for the Lenovo "anti-shock feature," install "ThinkVantage Active Protection System" from the Thinkvantage Technology section
That should do it. Let us know how you do.

Ok, so this question will go somewhat beyond iCal, but this seems like the most appropriate place to start.
I am guessing many people find themselves in the same situation as I'm in, with calendar and contact information spread across multiple applications. Specifically, I have contacts in Google and Yahoo and I mostly use Google Calendars. I would like to use Address Book and iCal on my Mac and have everything sync. I also have an iPhone that is currently set up with my Google Calendars and Contacts.

I am using the big date calendar template in iPhoto. I am on Lion 10.7.2, macbook air. The names of the months are on each calendar page but something happens when I send the data to Apple. The names are part of the template. They are not text boxes. I lose two names on the calendar after it is sent to Apple. Apple suggested I make a pdf file of my calendar before sending it in and check to make sure every name shows. I did this with a calendar I just sent in. The calendar was correct. All names of the months were showing. After sending the data two month names disappeard because when it arrived by mail, it was incorrect. Apple looked at my calendar via a pdf file and it was incorrect. This is second time this has happened. I called Apple and they had me delete several folders in the Library folder, some preferences and do a complete reinstall of iPhoto. I have not yet remade the defective calendar. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
kathyControl-click on the background of the view all pages window and select "Preview Calendar" from the contextual menu.
You can also save the pdf as a file to compare to the printed calendar. If the two names are visible in the pdf file then the printed copy should show them. Contact Apple for a refund. Apple Print Products - Apple Store (U.S.) -
Not Running on the Event Dispatch thread, but UI still freezes
The environment: I am currently working on an application that requires some heavy lifting in response to user input on a UI. To do this I am using a version of SwingWorker that was backported from java 1.6 to java 1.5 in conjunction with a slew of custom threads.
The problem: I am currently running into an issue where I am not operating on the Event Dispatch thread (checked by doing a javax.swing.SwingUtilities.isEventDispatchThread()) but the UI is still freezing during this section. The operation involves a loop with about 2000 iterations and contains several file accesses. I have thought about how to make a new thread to perform the same operation, but I do not see how it would be any different since as it is I am not on the EDT. The call is being made from doInBackground and specifically the piece that is slowing things down is the File Accesses (2 for every iteration of the loop). At this point I am not sure how to go about resolving the issue. Any one have any suggestions?I am not operating on the Event Dispatch threadThat is the problem. Use multiple threads for GUI, which should delegates to the EDT, and your app logic.

In my Macbook Pro, on a few occassions, the apple menu bar blacks out. its displayed as a negative image. The desktop wallpaper get greyed out and i get a blank screen as wallpaper. No idea why this happens. I reset the system and issue gets resolved.

I have just tried to connect my Mac book pro to an LG Plasma TV via an iWires Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable. All I get on my TV is the Mac wallpaper and nothing else. I am missing something really silly, could anyone help please.
Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
I am currently running windows XP, using a 20” Phillips flat screen as my monitor. I have no issues what so ever with this monitor using XP. I am running from the VGA out on my laptop (company PC, IBM) straight into my monitor. TV DVI is type DVI-I.
I want a Mac Mini!!! So… The big question is.. Will I be able to use this monitor? As stated above, I have no issues with XP. The Mini comes with a mini DVI to VGA adapter. Shouldn’t I be able to plug right into this adapter and go using the cable I already have?

Indeed, given the presence of a VGA connector on the monitor and the DVI/VGA supplied with the mini, you should be able to plug the two things together and have them work with no problem. Unfortunately, without knowing the exact model of screen and there being someone posting here that has tried the same combination, it's impossible to tell you with absolute certainty that it will work - very high probability, but not certainty.
How readily the combination works depends to a great extent on whether the display outputs a standard signal which identifies it and the settings it requires, such that the mini can detect it. If it does, it'll work and offer you a range of suitable and compatible settings. If it doesn't, you may need to use a third-party utility such as SwitchResX - which isn't easy but many have used with success.
If the display also has DVI input, that's another option too of course. -
Whenever I lock my screen on my mac (by closing the lid) the login screen I see on reopening my computer is a faded version of my desktop image (which is normal, and fine) however when I close my laptop while it's in fullscreen mode (when I'm using a web browser or other application in full screen) the lock screen displays the default desktop image, which is what i'm trying to change. My macbook has always done this.
My computer is running Mac OS X version 10.7.3
I've been looking for a way to change the default wallpaper on my mac, so that when i lock my screen in full screen mode the lock screen displays my selected wallpaper image (the same one as is on my desktop) instead of the default (andromeda galaxy). My guess is that once you see an estimate for replacement for hundreds of dollars, those scratches won't look too bad anymore. There are products to cover the outer casing, and some people put stickers on, or even paint (I don't recommend either, but ymmv). Good luck.
