I am using the big date calendar template in iPhoto. I am on Lion 10.7.2, macbook air. The names of the months are on each calendar page but something happens when I send the data to Apple. The names are part of the template. They are not text boxes. I lose two names on the calendar after it is sent to Apple. Apple suggested I make a pdf file of my calendar before sending it in and check to make sure every name shows. I did this with a calendar I just sent in. The calendar was correct. All names of the months were showing. After sending the data two month names disappeard because when it arrived by mail, it was incorrect. Apple looked at my calendar via a pdf file and it was incorrect.  This is second time this has happened. I called Apple and they had me delete several folders in the Library folder, some preferences and do a complete reinstall of iPhoto.  I have not yet remade the defective calendar. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
    kathy

Control-click on the background of the view all pages window and select "Preview Calendar" from the contextual menu.
You can also save the pdf as a file to compare to the printed calendar.  If the two names are visible in the pdf file then the printed copy should show them.  Contact Apple for a refund.  Apple Print Products - Apple Store (U.S.)

I would like to connect my Apple TV 3rd gen to a projector and not an HD TV (so I can watch movies on the big screen). Are there any decent price compatible projectors? Good quality but not professional! Many thanks

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception.  If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.

  • The Big question...

I am currently running windows XP, using a 20” Phillips flat screen as my monitor. I have no issues what so ever with this monitor using XP. I am running from the VGA out on my laptop (company PC, IBM) straight into my monitor. TV DVI is type DVI-I.
I want a Mac Mini!!! So… The big question is.. Will I be able to use this monitor? As stated above, I have no issues with XP. The Mini comes with a mini DVI to VGA adapter. Shouldn’t I be able to plug right into this adapter and go using the cable I already have?
    Thanks much!
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Indeed, given the presence of a VGA connector on the monitor and the DVI/VGA supplied with the mini, you should be able to plug the two things together and have them work with no problem. Unfortunately, without knowing the exact model of screen and there being someone posting here that has tried the same combination, it's impossible to tell you with absolute certainty that it will work - very high probability, but not certainty.
How readily the combination works depends to a great extent on whether the display outputs a standard signal which identifies it and the settings it requires, such that the mini can detect it. If it does, it'll work and offer you a range of suitable and compatible settings. If it doesn't, you may need to use a third-party utility such as SwitchResX - which isn't easy but many have used with success.
If the display also has DVI input, that's another option too of course.

  • How can I disable Notification Centre in IOS5 and go back to getting the big blue text message notifications?

    I have Iphone 4S on iOS 5
I flicked the button in settings to set up Notification Centre, but now I want to disable Notification Centre as the text notification is nowhere near as good as the old 'big blue' text received box.
1- where do I find button to DISABLE Notification Centre? (I can't find one)
2- how do I revert back to the old big blue box text notification?
    Thanks

I've tried literally every option available in "Notifications" to get back the big blue box, but it seems that every option I choose nothing really changes.
The messages continue to come up with the small box, green Message icon, and the name and Text Message beneath.
Is there no other way, or some sort of trick, to get the blue box back?
    Thanks!

  • I might have messed up my files and now have the big exclamation mark on a lot (but not all of my iphotos) My document folder was full of photos and I tried to organize it by putting it into a separate folder but now I can't see my photos :-( please help?

Hi there, I have the same problem as I've read on some of the questions posted although the answers hasn't been much help to me with regards to the big exclamation mark on iphotos when I try to open my photos.  For some reason my photo files was stored in my document folder and you can imagine how that must have looked, very unorganized.  When I tried to move the photos from there to another file that is just for my photos.  Now I can't open them in iphotos and although I tried to undo my mistake it still doesn't want to work.. is there any way I can find all the images on my computer and fix my problem by storing them somewhere else without damaging the files?
Please help me find all my photos as I would be shattered if I were to loose any...
    Thank you.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • By double clicking on a photo opened in event I get the picture of an exclamation mark instead of the big photo. also the slideshow does not work anymore.

When I double click on a photo opened in events I get a black question mark in stead of the big photo.
subsequently the slide show does not show pictures. I hope anyone knows if I have may be changed a setting?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair Library permissions

The button on my Ipod Touch (the big one just below the screen) will not work when I press it. Nothing happens, when before it would wake my IPod out of sleep mode, and exit out of programs I was using (ex. ITunes or Safari to main screen) . Now, no reactions. When I press the button, it appears to be more indented then it was before. What should I do? Do I need to get it fixed or replaced, or is this a problem I can fix on my own? • Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 60+ minutes.

    Dear Sirs,
I need your support over the following MS EPM 2013 issue:
Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 30+ minutes. We
need to reduce this total publication time down to acceptable working values 10+- minutes.
    Environment information:
Single App Server (Virtual): 16 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 50 GB free disk space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SharePoint Server 2013 and MS Project Server 2013 with CU December 2013 (KB 2850024) applied.
Single RDBMS MS SQL Server (Virtual): 8 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 200 GB free space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SQL Server 2012 x64 SP 1 Enterprise Edition.
We have 1Gbit LAN between APP, DB server and 1Gbit LAN between APP and Proj Prof Client.
Yes, we are on the way of migrating to the Prod environment
with 3-tiered architecture (with SP1 slipstream and CU December 2014 applied), but this issue also
    presents there.
    Project’s file information:
Tasks in the file: [~4900], resources in the file [~396] enterprise task’s custom fields used in the file [~23].
Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed that
tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks relevant
    for new sharepoint site creation.
    Case 1: Issue description:
During the Enterprise project’s file save and publication we have the following sharepoint 2013 log messages:
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.22 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =376.068676326181 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.69 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =361.652807828928 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
It shows that sharepoint spend at least ~350 milliseconds (or 0,35 sec*4900 tasks = 1715 sec, or 28,5 min) for each task update during
project publication. And we also have another log file that shows that about 0,7 sec (or 0,7 sec*4900 tasks = 3430 sec, or 57 min) sharepoint spend for save each task in project file to project server. So total save and publication time more then 60+ minutes
for that project file. The same result we have even if user didn’t do any changes at the project file.
We use only enterprise projects (dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView.projectvisibilitymode = «False»), and do not use sharepoint tasks lists,
but the synchronization between MSP Plan and SharePoint tasks list works at any case.
    Case 2: Issue description:
    - For the second test we created a new project with new sharepoint project’s site on basis of our «issue» project, with total amount
of tasks in it of 5148 (yes, we increased the tasks list default limit at the sharepoint site up to 6000 items in it – standard limits for sharepoint view list – 5000 items).
    - Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed
that tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks
relevant for new sharepoint site creation.
    -Then we deleted the
tasks list for that new test project from the sharepoint site and republish the project plan one more time. This time project save procedure took about 7 minutes, project publication about 2 minutes and 3 minutes for other relevant queue jobs. So total time
    is 12 minutes.
As a conclusion: yes, we have determined
the exact problem - during synchronization process (from Project Server to SharePoint) it perform copying all tasks and related data from Project to SharePoint in spite of fact that you changed only ONE task or ALL of them. At any case, synchronization will
copy ALL of them from Project Server to SharePOint task’s list.
Our workaround is to disable the task’s synchronization for such big-sized project plans:
    – to delete the SharePoint «tasks» list at the SharePoint site tied with project plan.
    - or deattach the SharePoint site from the project plan.
Thank you for reading this topic, please if you also forced with such issue provide us any known workaround or maybe any official response
\ feedback from MS about it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards, Andrey

Regarding my topic, I also said that every time when sync works it updates All items from project’s plan at Project Server to corresponded task’s list at SharePOint server. Inspire of the fact that you changed only One task or group /
all of them at your project’s plan.
And it seems to me and my colleagues that it’s probably (maybe) a “bug” at the product. Here is what we have if looked a little bit closer to the code:
Share Point determines what task to sync from Project’s plan to sharepoint list. To do that sharepoint needs to know was that task changed or not, based on the following fileds (check SQL stored procedure “[MSP_READ_TASKS_FOR_SYNCRONIZATION]”):
    TASK_UID    TASK_NAME    TASK_START_DATE    TASK_FINISH_DATE    TASK_PCT_COMP    TASK_PARENT_UID    TASK_OUTLINE_NUM
    WSS_LISTITEM_UID   TASK_ID    TASK_IS_ACTIVE
We noticed that at any case synchronization performs for all tasks, EXCEPT the ROOT one. Then we looked at the comparison of TASK_PARENT_UID field. So sharepoint compares TASK_PARENT_UID with ParentID (this is internal name for lookup
field “Tasks” at the Sharepoint, and it stores their values at the format "ID;#Title").
    And comparison performs like following:
    SharePoint looks for Task at the Tasks’s list corresponded to Project’s plan with ID represented at the TASK_PARENT_UID field. Then it takes SharePoint ListItem ID (“int” type) and store it to the “num” parameter;
    num = this.GetCachedListItemByUniqueId(listItem.ParentList, nullable.Value).ID;
2.Then it compares “num” with task’s “ParentID” at SharePOint as follow with operator “!=”:
    ((SPItem) listItem)["ParentID"] != (System.ValueType) num
       3. If comparison was success (true) – then it tell us that values (at the Project’s plan for tasks) was changed, then it need to be synchronized. Corresponded Method setup “true” flag, and then returns it.
The “bug” is that this expression at the Step 2 will always return “true”, because in fact it compares “string” (see above – that this is lookup field at SharePoint side)
with “number”. For example if the parant task ID is “55”, then we get:
    "55;#Task 1" != 55
And by the rules of .Net the “string” will never equal “number”
Furthermore this is approved by the SharePoint logs:
In that case we always get the note “Setting ParentID to” at the logs (we see it if turns on Verbose for “Project Server” -> “Sharepoint Integration” category).
So at any case of publishing project’s plan we always get that note at the logs for tasks that have Parent task, and we have Parent for all of them EXCEPT the ROOT one, exact logs represented further:

  • Windows PC User Making The Big Switch To Mac OS X & MacBook 2.0GHz

I'm from the Philippines. I've been a Windows PC user for around 10 years. I figured it's time to replace my old Pentium III 500MHz/Win98SE with a newer system to keep up with highter system requirements set forth by newer applications.
The features I looked for include portability, performance, connectivity (built-in WiFi & Bluetooth) and value (not too expensive). I'm initially leaning towards getting another Windows XP-based platform because Windows-based apps are readily available here and getting tech support for the Mac would be a little prob. Also, I just can't afford to leave behind some applications that are somehoew inexistent in the Mac world, but the mere thought that the PC world would soon be shifting to Vista kinda turned me off. Nobody wants to buy a new notebook that would suddenly become obsolete in just a few months or so.
However, everything changed when online research led me to Apple's homepage (www.apple.com), where I discovered Mac's latest wonder: the Macbook. I heared about the Mac OS X's reputation for stability and performance. They say Macs are less prone to worms & viruses too since most of these things were designed specificically to infect Windows-based platforms. Looks like this is it for me. I'll be getting a MacBook 2.0GHz soon.
I must admit that what primarily attracted me to the Intel-powered Macbook is the fact that it could now run two operating systems thru "Boot Camp" or Parallels For Mac. Two applications that would give me the capability to run Mac OS X and Windows XP on a single platform. It's like having the best of both worlds.
For me, this is really great news but I still have questions though. The Macbook is a new release, so I'm still iffy about purchasing it as new technology is notorious for having many annoying quirks and kinks that need to be smoothed out.
My question is... What are the PROS and CONS of using BootCamp and Parallels respectively? Is Parallels better than the other? Which one would you recommend? Should I decide to install both, will there be any hitches?
I won't be upgrading for the next 5 years or so. The notebook will likely see some heavy use for Medical Transcription work and maybe occasional gaming (mostly flight sims). This would be my first Mac purchase so I better do it right the first time. So if you have any comments, feedbacks, suggestions... kindly post it here.
I'll be making the big switch soon.
    Rich

I'm running Parallels on an iMac 2.0 GHz, and I absolutely love it! I expected all sorts of glitches and found virtually none. The only drawback I know if is that it treats your USB 2.0 ports like USB 1.1. Otherwise, my Windows XP virtual machine inside of Parallels doesn't seem to know it's not on a PC; it runs smoothly and much faster than on my previous 1.5GHz PC with 1.0 GB RAM. I've loaded Quicken for Windows, MS Office, Norton Anti-Virus, Adobe Acrobat, and several other Windows Apps with no troubles at all. I'm telling you, this software (Parallels) is amazing. I feel like I literally have two computers now.
I would recommend that you have 2.0 GB of RAM, because while you're running Parallels, you have 2 OS's operating at the same time. But the ability to switch back and forth between the two OS's, share files, cut and paste - well, it's simply awesome, and well worth any extra cost.

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • Is the "512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage" on the new mac worth the extra cost?  I am comparing with a refurb with better specs (faster CPU, larger hard drive) and from what I undersand the PCIe flash storage is the big differentiator in cost.

hello - i am considering two macbook pros
    NEW - http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=ME294LL/A&step=config#
    REFURB - http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0ML1LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-27ghz-quad-c ore-intel-i7-with-retina-display
The refurb actually has a faster processor and a larger hard drive.  From what I understand, the big difference in cost is the new macbook pro contains "512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage" versus the refurb "768GB Flash Storage".
Is the PCIe flash storage really worth the extra cost (and smaller size)?
PS - Also I believe the brand new one has 2 GB graphics memory as opposed to 1 GB graphics memory.  I don't really care about that as much as I won't be doing a lot of video editing or gaming.

Some are some are not. Otherwise Apple has a ton of Mac's sitting around that have been returned by customers under their 14 day No Questions Asked return policy.
But they not just Returned and Resold. They go back to Apple, checked out (Tested) any parts that are not up to spec replaced and then repackaged in a plain white box to be sold as refurbs.

    Yining,
There seems to be a few people making comments about problems with downloads.  I myself have never had a problem, but I think that downloading from in Europ isn't a problem.
I would try and use a tool such as GetRight download manager which picks up the fact that something is downloading and manages that download, so it will be able to restart the download.
