The bookmarks button to the right of home icon is now gone how do I reinstall it?

I am running Firefox 15.0.1
I have researched your articles and came to the place where it is suggested to drag the Icon for that function and drop it into the customize section of the Bookmarks Tool bar. When I drop it in there the icon shows, BUT the instant I close the palette the new added icon on the taskbar is gone.
I have customized the bookmarks managing quite extensively. That is why the option of resetting it makes me panic, specially that I have lost bookmarks more than a couple times while upgrading FF versions.
I have set 20 folders where I have sorted hundreds of bookmarks.
My add-ons are:
- Adblock Plus 2.1.2
- DblClicker 1.6.1
- Flashblock 1.5.15.1
- Java Console 6.0.33
- LastPass 2.0.0
- Lazarus Form Recovery 2.3
- RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 15.0.6
- Rights to Close 1.0.4
- Tab Preview 0.3
- Tab Navigator 1.1
I added this list cause of the comment i read in here that there may be some conflict which could be producing my current problem.
What would you suggest may be affecting my Bookmarks button? And more importantly how do I fix it?
I would appreciate knowledgeable contributions to help me solve my isssue
Thank you kindly

*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the menu bar is hidden.
*Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.
Firefox 4+ versions have two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.<br />
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.<br />
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.<br />
You can drag the Bookmarks menu button with the drop marker in the Customize window from the toolbar palette on a toolbar (e.g. Navigation Toolbar or Tab Bar or to the left side of the Bookmarks Menu Items).
You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden (View > Toolbars or Firefox > Options).<br />
If the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button is displayed on the Bookmarks Toolbar as part of the Bookmarks Toolbar Items (bookmarks), but you can move it from the right side to the left side of the Bookmarks toolbar if the Customize window is open.<br />
Otherwise the Bookmarks Menu button will appear on the right side of the Navigation Toolbar.

  • In 4.0.1, is it possible to move the Bookmarks Button on the Bookmarks Toolbar to a different position on the Bookmarks Toolbar from it default position on the far right?

The default Bookmarks Button is on the far, upper right side of the browser window on the Bookmarks Toolbar. It's distracting there, on the edge, in Siberia. I use it a thousand times per day. It's unnatural and distracting to always be turning to the edge, away from "the action". Is there any way to slide its location on the toolbar? Or at least put it on the far left where there's more "action"? I doubt I'm the only one with this instinct, otherwise the Firefox button and items on the usual menu bar (like File, Edit) would not always be placed on the upper left, not upper right. I'm not asking about the other, optional Bookmarks Button that can be put on the Navigation Toolbar which functions differently and more cumbersomely.

To move the bookmarks button on the Bookmarks Toolbar, you have to go into Customize first. Just drag the button palette to one side so you have full access to the bar. The only things on it should be "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" and the icon for the bookmarks drop-down list. Hopefully then you can swap their positions.
(And it is weird that the buttons look the same when one shows a menu and other opens the Bookmarks Sidebar.)

  • I can't get the Bookmarks button (NOT the Display Your Bookmarks Button) to show in the Navigation Toolbar, except when I have the Customise window open.

I think that covers it really. When I have the customise window open I can see the Bookmarks Button (like the Display Your Bookmarks Button but with a little arrow on the right hand side) but as soon as I click Done it vanishes. I've tried it in a number of positions on the Navigation toolbar but without success.

My bookmarks button just moved itself out of the Navigation Toolbar and into the Bookmarks Toolbar. If there's a way to return it, let me know.
It's using a whole new toolbar's worth of space (since the Bookmarks Toolbar is now double height) just for one dinky button...love the idea of maximizing real estate and this is messing that up.

  • Why can't I view my bookmark folders in alphabetical order when I click on the bookmark button on the browser? Is there a way to see the folders in alphabetical order all the time?

I click on the bookmarks button on the Firefox browser and the folders that hold the bookmarks are not in any particular order. I would like the folders to be in alphabetical order when I see them...when I click on the bookmarks button at the top of the browser. When I go to organize bookmarks I can sort them so they are in alphabetical order, but they do not show up that way when you just click on the bookmark button to get to your bookmarks. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

  • How do I get rid of the bookmark button in the bookmark toolbar?

I have firefox 4.0 RC1 on my laptop and on my desktop. On my desktop, the bookmark button on the toolbar is gone, but on my laptop the button on the toolbar is shown. I've seen a few post about having the button removed through coding but I don't really know much about that.
If anyone can help, that would be awesome. Maybe a step by step?

Doesn't work. I figured out that the only time the button will disappear is when I turn on the "Menu Bar." Other than that, when I drag another bookmark button in to the tool bar I just get two that come up.
    More Info:
    -Same addons
    -Same RC version
    -I tried changing the profiles
-I made the chrome/userChrome.css file (Could be doing it wrong)
-I didn't do anything for the bookmark button to disappear on my desktop

  • I don't see the new "firefox button" and i can't see the bookmark button (with the drop down option) unless I'm in the customize toolbar view. How can I fix these?

I am using Firefox 4.0 on Windows XP home, Service pack 3. I am trying to use some of the new features of Firefox 4.0 that I see on the Firefox feature page (http://mzl.la/gCFDjj) and am not having much luck. First off in the Firefox Button. It is supposed to contain all your menu items but it is not appearing on my screen. Is this a feature that only works in Vista or Windows 7?
Second, I am trying to use the Bookmarks Button (the one that has the drop down menu) but it doesn't appear in my toolbar unless I right click the tool bar and choose "customize". The button shows up in this view already in the toolbar, as if it is hidden in normal use and no matter where I move it to, once I hit the "done" button in the customize window the Bookmarks Button gets hidden/covered up again.
Third, I see the new "App Tabs" feature but I can't seem to find an option for this in the preferences for Firefox, if it's even supported by my browser/OS at all.
Can anyone tell me how to use/activate these features or if I am even able to using Windows XP?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • How can I move the Bookmarks button on the Bookmarks toolbar to the left side, please?

I have just done a full reset to get rid of various problems and am trying NOT to alter things without a good reason as that is probably how I broke it before... but I really do need my bookmarks button on the left!
I cannot discover how to open a customise menu for the bookmarks toolbar??

You should be able to move the Bookmarks Menu button to the left end side of the Bookmarks Toolbar ot to another toolbar while the customize window is open.
*Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
*View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
    *Right-click empty toolbar area

  • After the latest update to FF13, I double click the bookmark button and the window won't open so I can edit.

When I double click the bookmark button (star) a window always drops down so I can edit the bookmark or place it into the folder I want. Now after the latest update to FF13 (june 2012) I can click once and the page is bookmarked to the "unsorted" folder, but when I double click nothing happens. 1) I restarted FF, didn't help 2) I rebooted computer, didn't help.

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. I had 5 extensions installed. I disabled all of them then restarted FF. My bookmark window started working again. Then I enabled each extension one at a time to find the culprit. It was "Compact Menu 2 version 4.3.1". It's a handy extension for me, but I can live without it till they have a version that will work for me. Thanks again.

Hi. I just downloaded Firefox 4. Some of the new features are missing such as the new "Firefox Button" and the new location for the bookmarks button. It almost looks just like Firefox 3. I am using Windows XP on this desktop computer. On my laptop, running Windows Vista, Firefox 4 has all the updates advertised. Why is this happening? How do I fix?
    Thanks

    Thanks so much!

  • Why can't I remove the long BOOKMARKS button from the right hand end of the bookmarks toolbar?

This button is completely superfluous and takes up space on my Bookmarks Toolbar. How do I remove it please?
To be clear, I have the 'normal' bookmarks button on my main toolbar that opens up my bookmarks in the panel on the left. What is the purpose of the Bookmarks button on the right end of the bookmarks toolbar that opens up the same bookmarks in a different presentation, and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks very much Vivek and the-edmeister, now I understand and have managed to remove the unwanted button. I beieve the ergonomics of all this are very poor - starting from the fact that 'customize' gives the impression you are in control of what appears and what doesn't, but this is confused by the fact that Firefox is also adding and removing icons depending on what toolbars are showing. Also, and the main cause for this problem, the icon I want to remove from Bookmarks toolbar does not show on Bookmarks toolbar in 'Customize' view. AND, there's the fact that the icon doesn't even look the same in the two views so it's not obvious that moving the little button (in customize) will affect the larger button with text that's on another toolbar!
For other people with the same problem, my re-writing of Vivek's original solution so it works on my system is this:
Please try this: right-click on the '''+''' after the last tab and '''Customize''' and click, hold and drag the star icon that has the little down arrow beside it from any of the toolbars on which it appears (it probably <b>won't</b> be in the Bookmarks toolbar!) into the Customize mini window.
    Thanks again both.

  • Using windows xp and do not see the bookmark button

using windows xp I do not see the bookmarks button to the right side of the screen. Is this normal? If not , how do I fix it.

Thanks for your help, after reading your post I really didn't understand what you were saying. I did however figure it out and realized your instructions were right on.

  • Why does the bookmark button keeps moving from navigation to bookmark toolbar when I don't put it there; how to solve this?

Because my screen isn't that big, I want my bookmark-toolbar-items (the item for the special bookmarks folder) to take all width, and I want the bookmarks button on the navigation toolbar (because I don't need such a long url field).
As you can edit the toolbars and their buttons, I did change it to what I want, but whenever saving & closing the edit-window the bookmarks button (with the drop-down menu) moves down one toolbar automatically. This is very, very annoying, not the least because in the editing mode it is ok (it also is saved correctly).
Any way to overcome this problem?

When the Bookmarks Toolbar is displayed, the Bookmarks button automatically moves from the Navigation Toolbar to the Bookmarks Toolbar. This is intended behavior. I can't tell you ''why'' though, as it doesn't make any sense to me either and I likely find it twice as annoying as you do.
    Install the following extension.
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bug582139/ Allow full customize bookmarks button]

  • The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation tool bar. When I right click and select customize it appears and when I click done on the customization box button, it disappears.

The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation toolbar. It appears when I right click on the navigation and click customize. As soon as I close the customization window it disappears again. I can no longer access the library to back up my bookmarks. Why did you change it from Firefox 3 where you could clock on the bookmarks tab and be able to backup your bookmarks?

Actually the Bookmarks Menu button doesn't appear because you have the Menu Bar visible in your first screenshot. The Bookmarks Menu button should appear to the right of the overflow chevron on the Bookmarks Toolbar if the Menu Bar is hidden.

  • When I change the position of the bookmarks button it always jumps to the same position (in the bookmarks bar). How can I make it stay where I want it to?

When I try to change to position of the symbol for the bookmarks it doesn't matter where I put it, always when I click on "Finish" the button jumps back in the middle of the bookmarks bar, right of the bookmarks and left of two addons (FoxyTunes and Forecastfox).

Sorry, that specific Bookmarks button ''(with the drop-marker down arrow or '''bookmarks''' word)'' is tied to the Bookmarks Toolbar when it is shown, and only appears when the Menu bar is hidden and the Firefox button is showing. It is not a "regular" toolbar button.
There is the original Bookmarks button, in the Customize Palette, which toggles the Bookmarks Sidebar view. It will stay where you put it on the Toolbars.

  • Can you make the bookmark button entries sticky?

My bookmarks are hierarchical -- folders within folders. Often I'm working with several bookmarks within the same sub-folder. But each time I want to select another bookmark (by clicking on the bookmark button), I have to drill down to the sub-folder again. It would be very helpful if the bookmark list would open up showing where i was the last time.
I don't want to display the sidebar or toolbar to do this because they eat up screen space.

Have you tried using the '''''Bookmarks Sidebar'''''? The Bookmarks Sidebar will retain its position as long as it is not closed and re-opened; in which case it will "rewind" to the top of the list. I too have a hierarchical nested folder arrangement with thousands of bookmarks and use the Sidebar when working intensely with bookmarks.
*Open or close the Bookmarks Sidebar with CTRL+B
You could also keep the '''''Library window''''' open to that folder, then click on the Library window in the Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen to bring that window to the top to make another selection from the folder. In the Library window, click on the desired folder, the bookmarks within that folder appear in the right panel and it will stay put until you change folders in the left panel of the Library window.
*Open the Library window with ''Bookmakrs > Show All Bookmarks'' or CTRL+SHIFT+B
