Modeless pallet window, event callback, layout manager, localization, I like the UI stuff there. Will InDesign JS UI be like this in the future?
One more: can we have a ExtendScript Database Connection for access to SQL database?

  • Bridge CS3 JavaScript Reference Guide?

Approximately two years ago I downloaded the Bridge JavaScript Reference Guide for CS2 as a PDF file (3.5 MB) from Adobe's website. Now I am looking for the respective scripting reference for Bridge CS3---but I cannot find one. I found several User Manuals and Reference Guides for Photoshop CS3, Version Cue CS3 Client and Server and the like ... but no scripting reference for Bridge CS3.
Obviously the old scripting reference for Bridge 1.0 still is useful ... but there sure are a few changes/improvements/extensions, aren't there? Does someone have an ides where to find Bridge CS3's scripting reference?

    Olaf,
The new scripting docs are part of the Bridge CS3 SDK:

  • Bridge Javascript examples?

I am a javascript beginner and while there is a lot of technical info in the Bridge JavaScript Reference, there are very few examples. I could really use a few good examples of how to apply js to Bridge. Is there someplace where folks are posting their scripts for bridge yet? Or perhaps some of the experts could post a few more examples here for us noobs?

    Sample scripts are posted at:

  • Is there an InDesign JavaScript Reference?

As a long time Photoshop scripter, I use the Photoshop JavaScript Reference often. It is a full reference to the Photoshop DOM.
I now need to create some scripts for InDesign and can't find a DOM reference on the Adobe dev site. Does one exists? Or what resources would you recommend to someone who knows ExtendScript but need to learn the InDesign DOM?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hey thanks Kasyan!
For all intents and purposes, it contains exactly the same information as shown in the ESTK Help menu -- if I did my job well, that is. It's just presented in a friendlier format, and has lots of extra hyperlinks. And it's CS3/CS4 purple!
The HTML version is adequate, but the CHM version really shiness -- at least, when viewed with a good HTML Help viewer. Fairly recent Windows viewers allow both indexing and a full text search, which makes life for the occasional scripter far easier.
I am very impressed with Robin Lu's Mac OS X viewer iCHM. It's as good as Microsoft's, apart from one tiny error; it doesn't properly shows all UTF8 encoded characters (fortunately, there aren't that many of these in the help text, so therefore it's just a mild nuisance). A must-have for all Mac users.
A good resource for starters are Adobe's own guides at http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/ (click the Scripting Resources button)
The Scripting Guide PDF , for example, contains lots of useful snippets for common tasks.

  • Accessing HTML content through the bridge

I figured out how to go to and display a webpage in the Bridge Content pane, but now, I'd like to be able to parse it, or at least the source for that page. The best solution would be to have a text object I could wade through which includes all the HTML for that page, but I'd settle for being able to save out the webpage to a temp file on disc, and then wade through it that way.
Has anyone messed around with anything like this? Can I do it? I can't see a lot of access to that content pane, but I could be missing something.
    Thanks!

    Two things.
First, you might want to look into Avahi
Second:  How is your networking on the Virtual machine set up?  If it uses NAT, there is a virtual network between the host and the guest.  That network is independent from the host's physical network to the outside world.  As such the address assigned the guest, and the address of the gateway it uses (the other end of the virtual network on the host) do not change.  What does change is the NAT configuration that allows the host to route data from its real, physical network to the virtual network.
On the other hand, if you using a bridged network, that means the guest machine receives its address from the same physical DHCP server as does the host.  This would require something like Avahi.

Argh - once again, I find my solution right after posting this. Left out one modification to the SWIG script, now it runs in 29 seconds vs C 16 seconds, I can live with that.

  • Do You Use the TestStand API Reference Poster?

The TestStand R&D Team would like to know how you use the TestStand API Reference Poster that ships with TestStand.  How often do you use it?  Is it hanging up near your computer?  What tasks do you use it for?

    Hi,
I dont use the hard copy. I unfolded the it the first time it appeared in version 3.0. Refolded it, put it back in the box and have never bothered with it since.
I have used the electronic version now again, when I haven't got access to the programmer help doc which you find in the teststand\bin folder.
I find its use limited, as it only really gives you the relationship between classes and a list of the properties and methods. This you can obtain for the help document.

After reinstalling CS6 the bridge photo downloader isn't able to read raw files and fails to convert the raw files to DNG. Previously downloaded raw files, now DNG, open up successfully in Camera Raw 7. How do I get the photo downloader to read and convert raw files. MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. No such problem before this reinstallation.

You should install Camera Raw 4.6.

I just made the switch to mac. I am have installed all the new PS6 CC and bridge and I am now trying to add some presets to my  ACR but when I search for the folder to place them it is not there.  From what I researched it says it should be under camera library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings but I can only get to library/application support/adobe/ and then there are two different camera raw options I have checked both and there are not settings folder. If anyone can help me please thanks

Apple most likely has the same poor taste that Microsoft does when it come to defaults.  Microsoft likes to hide things like  settings, preset, folders etc from normal users  think the dumb or something else.  If Apple also hide things you will have to  make some system setting changes that will allow Finder to do it job and find it for you.

  • Think the bridge deleted appointments / also missing add attendee to appointments now on my bold calendar

I noticed on several occasions that my playbook calendar and bold calendar were not in sync. Appointments were missing on the playbook. Now it appears that the bridge has deleted appointments on my playbook/bold and the deletion has replicated through our bes so the appointments are missing in outlook.
I also no longer have the ability to add attendees to appointments on my bold. I can view attendee avail - but can't invite.
My bold/bes/outlook has been really reliable for years. The playbook is a new addition and as when playbook was added that's when I noticed these problems.
    Bold is 9700 v 6.0.0.576
    bridge is 1.0.6.5
    playbook is 1.0.7.2942
    bes is 5.something
    outlook is 2010

Further clarification - the appointments aren't deleted from my Outlook Calendar - it's that appoints where i was invited no longer display onthe phone or through the bridge. Basic meetings where I invite someone appears - but meetings with multiple attendees no longer appear on the phone and bridge.

  • I've been working with AI for some time time now & would love to have a light weight viewer to open the files. The bridge is fine when we're working but just being able to toggle through folders is impossible otherwse

I was thinking of keeping things a bit easier in the way of clicking & dragging artwork into Illustrator. The bridge is fine when we're in the print shop & working but still has problems with some of the file extensions with the vectors. A lightweight no frills viewer that would open anything that Illustrator would open, so we could just burn through our regular file folders without opening AI or the bridge would be a great deal. Add the PS extensions too & we could dance by the firelight. Just offer it to those with the software & the valid codes for their software. I mean if there would be a problem with folks just grabbing it up. Love to have it though.

A thumbnail preview file icon option would be nice. CorelDRAW has had this capability for its past few versions. It does make it a whole lot easier conducting searches in Windows File Explorer. You can find the right files pretty quickly and then drag/drop them into CorelDRAW.

  • Customizing the Bridge Search Interface

I've created a custom MetaData Schema and custom FileInfo panel for my CS4 applications.
Now, I'd like to customize the bridge search interface. Currently, the search interface shows EXIF metadata types as searchable. I'd like to add my own, and remove the EXIF.
After reading the Adobe Bridge CS4 Javascript Guide, I believe that I can do what I want by creating a whole new script driven search window. It seems like it should be much easier than that to modify the Search interface directly.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

My suggestion would be to post in the Bridge Scripting forum:

  • Asking the Bridge Team:  Bridge "working color space" setting when one does not have the Suite?

Common sense tells me there is really no such thing as a
"working color space" in Bridge, because
Bridge is not an image editor, just a browser
Therefore, this may turn out to be a purely academic question; but that doesn't keep my curiosity from forcing me to ask it anyway. ;)
Is there a way to set the Bridge
"color settings" when one does not have the suite?
The only Adobe program I keep up to date is Photoshop, so I've never had the suite. My version of Photoshop is 11 (CS4) and I run updated
(not upgraded) versions of Adobe Acrobat 7.x, Illustrator 10.x and InDesign 2.x. Consequently, the Synchronize color settings command is not available to me.
It seems to me that Bridge is behaving like a proper color-managed browser (e.g. Firefox with color management enabled), in that it displays tagged image files correctly and assumes sRGB for untagged image files. This normally works fine.
But what if I wanted Bridge to assume my
Photoshop color working space for untagged images
so that it behaves the same as Photoshop? I'm just curious, as I deal with a minuscule, practically negligible amount of untagged files.
My reason for bringing it up now is that I don't recall this being explicitly mentioned in forum replies when users inquire about color settings in Bridge. A recent post regarding Version Cue in the Photoshop Macintosh forum got me thinking about this. Just wanting to make sure that I'm right in my assumption that
there is really no such thing as a
"working color space" in Bridge, because Bridge is not an image editor, just a browser.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramón,
Thanks for sharing the outcome of your tests. However, I may have found a bug/exception to Bridge's colour management policy!
It appears that CMYK EPS photoshop files are not colour managed in Adobe Bridge, even if they contain an embedded ICC profile.
I've tried every combination in the EPS 'Save As' dialogue box, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with file encoding. Also, Bridge doesn't rely on the low-res preview that is held within the EPS itself.
My guess is that Bridge is previewing the CMYK EPS with a Bridge-generated RGB image, but it's being displayed as monitor RGB (assigned) rather than colour managed (converted to monitor RGB). For most users the difference will be barely perceptible, but the problem became very noticeable when using Bridge to preview Newsprint CMYK images on a wide-gamut monitor (images that should have appeared muted really leapt off the screen!).
How do I report this to the Colour Police at Adobe?!?

  • [JS,CS3/4] ANN: JavaScript Reference Guide

Looking for the JavaScript Reference Guide for CS3 or CS4? Adobe no longer offers separately downloadable documents, as they did for previous versions; instead, it's all integrated in the ExtendScript Toolkit Editor. Just look under 'Help', then choose a program. Not using the ESTK? Or perhaps you just want a prettier display ... :-)
So I reformatted the reference guides into fancy HTML, and I was even able to wring some additional information out of it, such as more comprehensive hyperlinks, a full index, and -- the best feature! -- a visual Hierarchy of each object and its place in the application.
The HTML version works with any web browser, but full text searching may be difficult. Windows users are advised to download the CHM (Compiled HTML) version, which offers free full text search, as well as a comprehensive Table of Contents and an index.
    Available for CS3 and CS4, from http://www.jongware.com/idjshelp.html
"You can copy it but you cannot top it."

There is no limit of improvement, isn’t it?
I'm rapidly approaching the limits of XSLT. I thought it a good idea to insert both JS Base guide and ScripyUI into the main reference guide. Unfortunatly, when I did, generating the links, contents, and index broke spectacularly. So I decided to cheat and just paste the XML source files together. Now some objects are duplicated, courtesy of the ScriptUI (Window, Button, Panel .. maybe some more). I decided to just append "(SUI)" to those names.
Fortunately, there are two enhancements to be savoured as well:
A version number :-) It's at the bottom left of each page
The 'any' classifier is now written out in full, with the acceptable values. For example, "Swatch merge (with: {Array of Swatches | Swatch | String} )" instead of just "(with:any)"
The CS4/CHM version on the web page is updated; the HTML version will follow some time later.
[Edit] It's now some time later, the CS4 HTML version is updated, and the CHM version as well. The version number has gone from 2.1 to 2.1.1 because of a few boo-boos and slightly more links.
