The buggy Retina MacBook Pro EFI version 1.0

After having installed the Retina MacBook Pros EFI version 1.0, I have severe problems in waking up the MBP. It take up to 15 seconds until the MBP is operative. Who is resonsible for such a buggy firmare? What can I do to get rid of the firmare and bring the MBP back to speed?

I've got a Time Machine backup. I just want to change the OS, not my data or software. Can I restore as you say? I've been trying to read about it and I'm definitely not a Mac noob, but it seems difficult.
Thank you for your response!

Apple no longer sells iDvd.  You will have to purchase an older version of iLife that has iDvd on it or use a third party application such as Toast from Roxio.

  • Mail transfer from the old macbook to the newer retina macbook pro

Hey, My father moved from an old macbook to the new retina macbook pro about 2 months back. Now as he is a business man he requires all his emails from his old mac onto the new macbook. The problem is to integrate his old mail data with 2 months of his current mail data.
All the instructions i have yet found online only seem to be for a new macbook where all the mail data and preferences could be transfered.
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers

  • Life of the new Retina MacBook Pro's FLASH Architecture?

    Dear all,
How long does the new Retina MacBook Pro's flash based SSD memory last? How exactly is a "write" defined? If I'm going to be paying approximately 2K or more, I better be able to use this computer without problems for 6-8 years.
    Thanks

That's funny. I don't recall me ever typing 2004 in the description of my computer.
    You said:

That means you expect to get 8 years out of a notebook computer. 2004 was 8 years ago. Apple was selling iBooks and PowerBooks back then running 10.3. This is at odds with your 2007 MacBook running the latest operating system. Obviously you do not expect to get 6-8 years from a notebook. You are faulting a brand-new machine with brand-new technologies for failing to meet requirements that have never before been imposed by you or anyone else.
Your second sentence is completely unhelpful because "as long as all Apple notebooks last" depends much on the user.
That is correct. If you are the type of person that uses your MacBook Pro for light web surfing, e-mail, newsletters, and as a receptical for Frappuccinos ®, then I can guarantee it won't last 8 years.
If you use it only for its intended purposes, then it may or may not be able to run the lateset operating system in 2017. It may even need a hardware refresh to restore original performance. If you are lucky, it might last until 2020, but no reasonable person would expect that.

  • Are there any hard shell cases available for the new Retina Macbook Pro?

I am going to be buying a Retina MacBook Pro this August during the tax free holiday, and was wondering if anyone knew of any hard shell cases that have been made for it, and/or screen protectors. I really don't wan a $2200 computer to get scratched! Thanks

  • Should i wait to buy the 2015 retina macbook pro?

I've been wanting to buy the retina macbook for about a month. But im worried the new model will come out soon with better specs for the same price. Should i hold off on buying it? Or does it not really matter?

I am wondering this too, but usually no one says too much, because of policy on here.... I expect to see new Retina Macbook Pro's with the new 5th generation Intel processor's. I am waiting for now, because I don't need one right now today. My Late 2011 works flawlessly (knock on wood), so I'll probably keep it even with a new one. The price will probably be the same, or close.... Depends on if there will be a redesign of the Macbook Pro's, too. You never know, but the 12" Macbook Air and iPad Pro, may be taking priority, for redesigns, anyways. So, I would wait, as I am..... I'd like to here if there is any inside info from anyone on here....

  • Will the new retina Macbook Pros be able to to handle big logic sessions

    Hello
I have been using an early 2008 Mac Pro (2 x 2.8 quad-core intel Xeon) which over the past year or two has had a long history of things going wrong with it. I am thinking that it's time to get a new computer and have been looking at the brand new Macbook Pros with retina (not that i need retina!).
I am a DJ and a musician and one of the reasons I would like a macbook pro is so I can use it to DJ with (serato) as well as incorporate it into my band (ableton). I know a Macbook pro will be able to hand these tasks well but I am wondering whether it will be able to replace my desktop as my main computer and handle large Logic sessions with plugins etc...
The last thing I want is for it to have over heating issues or not be able to handle what I throw at it. I would love a new Mac Pro but the portability of a macpro is apealing and I'm done DJ'ing with a huge CD wallet.
Here is what I am looking at:
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Also am I correct in thinking that my 2008 early Mac Pro has more processing power than the new macbook I am looking at?
Would be great to hear whether this macbook pro will be able to do the job for me. I'm looking at it being my main computer for the next 5-6 years
    thanks!

    Yes, yes and yes.
"Also am I correct in thinking that my 2008 early Mac Pro has more processing power than the new macbook I am looking at?"
    You MUST be joking! LOL!
There will be NO COMPARISON as far as speed, processing power, etc.
You are looking at about a 40% performance boost on the CPU, alone, never mind the boost in RAM.
Coupled with the speed of the drives in the MBPro, you will also notice that your insanely complicated projects that typically take a few minutes to load, will actually load in mere seconds.

  • Why do the new retina MacBook pros have less processing power than the older models? I am looking to get one, which needs to be powerful.

I noticed that the new MacBook pros with retina displays have less processing power, and memory that then older non retina 15 inch. Why is that?

Are you perhaps talking about a similarly spec'd 15" current gen non-retina against a 15" current retina?  If so, then yes, there is a very small subtle difference when benchmarks are measured.  It's possible that Apple is downclocking the chips just a tad to keep temperatures in check, but at the same time, it could also be all the extra pixels taking up more processing power and causing the small difference.
I too have seen the same articles from benchmarking websites when the retinas came out.

  • Will the new Retina MacBook Pro outperform a standard MBP with upgrades?

I'm after a new MacBook Pro 13" but don't mind too much about a retina display (music production and sound design is my thing) - I just want it to be as fast as I can afford. I've been comparing the new Retina models with a standard MBP upgraded to the same price area as the Retinas.
Here's the specs I'm interested in:
    MBP Retina
Processor: 2.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz) with 3MB shared L3 Cache
    RAM: 8GB
    Storage: 256GB PCI-e-based flash storage
    MBP Non-retina (with some upgrades)
Processor: 2.9 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    RAM: 8GB
Storage: 1TB Serial ATA Hard Drive @ 5400 rpm.
Which will peform best? Does the flash storage makes the retina faster while the hard drive on the standard MBP negate the upgrades?

    Yes, yes and yes.

  • I have an old 23 inch cinema display will it be compadible with the new retina MacBook pro?

So I have an old 23 inch cinema display from 2006 and it's been in our basement for a few years and I'm going to buy the new MacBook pro with retina display I'm wondering if these 2 products will be compatible so I could work at my desk the display Powers up fine I just need to know if they're compatible ?

Assuming your 23" Cinema Display has a DVI connector or a built-in DVI cable, all you'll need will be a mini-displayport-to-single-link-DVI adapter or cable, and the display should work well.

  • Should I go for the new Retina Macbook Pro 13" (announced Oct 2013) or the Macbook Air 13"?

So, I was set on the Macbook Air until Apple announced the new notebook. The reason I was set on Air previously is because I really need a portable laptop, and the Air was lighter. But the new Pro seems light enough if not as light, so I'm confused all over again.
I won't use my laptop for much. I don't use my computer for gaming or high-end photo editing. I might use it for basic photo editing, nothing too special. I'm going to start college soon, which is why I need a portable laptop with good battery life. And I will be typing a lot. I listen to a lot of music, and so, I download quite a lot of music as well. Space is not that big of an issue, since I already own an external hard drive. Other than that, I browse the Internet... basic websites... Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr etc etc.
So, input would be highly appreciated. Which laptop would meet my needs, and will be good in the long run as well? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, a college student should get the old-fashioned MacBook, NOT the Air.
You are going to be putting this in a backpack and heading off to your next class or lunch four or five times a day. The regular MacBook Pro can stand that abuse -- the Air is much more light and delicate.
If you were an executive, slipping this (in a neoprene sleeve) in and out of your Briefcase once a day, I would say the Air is fine.

  • Better reliability on the latest Retina MacBook Pro (GT 750m)?

Pretty sure the discrete GPU on my late 2012 rMBP (10,1) just bit the dust...again.  I'm expecting to have to shell out a few hundred for a new logic board, but I use this computer to run a small e-commerce business and our youtube channel, and I just can't do this **** anymore.  So I'm going to give this POS to the wife and get something else.
Problem is, I don't care much for Windows and I haven't really found a Windows machine that appeals to me anyhow.  So I'm looking at just getting the newer 15" rMBP with discrete graphics.  When I bought my 2012 rMBP, I knew it was new tech and all that, so some hiccups weren't a huge surprise. But I can't help being a little hesitant about replacing the most unreliable computer I've ever owned with a newer version of the same thing.
So my question is:  Is the consensus generally that Apple has fixed the known issues in the new 15" Retinas?  Or are we still seeing faulty screens and NVIDIA driver and hardware related issues?  And if so, anyone got a suggestion for a reliable hi-perfomance laptop?

Scratch that post.  Apple totally stepped up and is fixing the machine on their dime.  I'm gonna get the newer rMBP with the GT750.  Hopefully the kinks are worked out by now.
