The button "More info" (in window  "About this Mac") is inactive

Hi!
I'm really don't know what is the problem. 2 days ago it worked.
MacAir (Lion 10.7.3.)
Thank you in advance

That button opens the System Information app.  You can look in the Utilities folder in the Applications directory and see if it's still there.  Also you can run it from there.

Where are the files for the Backups that show up in About This Mac - Storage?
My new Macbook Pro 13 retina has 1TB flash drive. But despite my TimeMachine being in a TimeCapsule my Macintosh HD shows 277 Gb of space has Backups. What is this for? How can I delete it?

OS X Lion and newer Mac OS X versions create local snapshots in portable Macs if Time Machine is enabled. See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
You don't have to worry about. They are stored in a kind of volume named "MobileBackups", but they appear as stored in your hard drive. To delete them, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn off Time Machine. Then, turn it on. However, you don't need to delete them, as they will be deleted when your hard drive gets full

  • I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my hard drive, setting etc to an SSD to replace in my MBP.  When I placed the SSD in and went to "About This Mac" I came upon this in the Storage section.  My question is where can I find my Backups and delete them?

I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my old MBP hard drive and its settings to a new SSD.  Everything went smoothly.  When I opened the "About this Mac" section and looked under Storage it showed this:
Where are the "Backups" (purple) located? I want to delete these files to free up disk space on my new SSD.  Thanks in advance for all of your guys help!

These are the "Local Snapshots" Time Machine makes when the actual Time Machine harddisk is not connected/avaiable.

  • I was wondering if I could use Boot Camp and install Windows 7 on my black Macbook. I don't see where I can tell what year it is from in the about this mac option either...? Please help. I am afraid that my mac is considered vintage now :(

I read somewhere earlier that if my macbook is vintage, then I can't install windows/bootcamp. Maybe this is too big a venture for me to undertake anyway, but just in case I wanted to get a little help before I dig too deep...  I think it was late 2006 or early 2007 when I purchased my black Macbook.

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
    model 1,1 (Early 2006)
    model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007)
    model 3,1 (Late 2007)

model 5,1 (Late 2008, Aluminum Unibody)
    model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only)

  • Macbook pro 15 discrete graphics not showing in the about this mac tab

I am new to osx. I was wondering why I couldnt find the discrete graphics info in the about this mac window. It simply says intel hd 4000. I was wondering whether or not I need some drivers for it.

I assume you mean under the "Display" tab when you click "About this Mac" > More Info...
This only shows the active graphics card. To see the full specs, open "System Information," either under "Overview" Tab > System Report, or from the Apple Icon in the menu bar by holding down the option key and clicking "System Information." Under hardware > Graphics/Displays

  • What should I see in Storage Info about this mac if i have fusion drive

I have a 21" Customized Fusion Drive Imac. The start up times have been slow ( over a minute each time ) and I am starting to doubt I have Fusion installed.  My sister has a standard new 21" Imac and her system report reads identical to mine.
Should Fusion show up as anything different in the Storage section when you click 'about this mac'?
My storage shows identical to my sister who does not have Fusion Drive.  We both have a 1TB Sata disk icon.

    I also have 21.5"
    it looks like this ( I think ) :

  • Emac processing SLOW...wheel spins even when trying to open "about this mac"

this is a new to me mac. I have only had it about 5 days.
    running 10.5.8.  1.42g 512 160g w/superdrive
It runs slow most of the time. when I am connected to the internet it seems ok, but when running or trying to open things like itunes, system preferences, system profiler and other applications it keeps that annoying spinning wheel going for minutes.  I have even had to just shut it off and start it back up again by pressing the button.  also, when I put in a cd or dvd it takes forever to read it. and the drawer doesn't want to open readily.
my other mac running 10.4.11 on 800mhz 512 80g doesn't have this trouble at all. I was thinking I was upgrading.
I tried to do repair permissions and that was taking forever, so I stopped it.
I know I will get some smirks by this, but I do not have the start up disks. I purchased this used without the disks.
I did look up some other posts about this, but wondered if there were some more suggestions without downloading anything.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks! Kelli

    Hi Kelli,
10.5 needs twice as much Memory as 110.4 does, as wel it's far more demanding of the Video card & Hard Drive.
These are "Minimums" which never suffice for much...
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1514
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: eMac
    Model Identifier: PowerMac6,4
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Processor Speed: 1.42 GHz
    Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1

  • Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

    Also,
I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

  • What does "About this Mac" consider backup files?

When I look at the storage on my drive in "About this Mac" it says I have 92GB worth of "backup" files. I can't figure out what these files could possibly be, or where they're being kept. Any ideas?

  • Why is "more info" greyed out in the About This Mac window?

RE:  MacBook Air running OS X 10.6.8
The More Info... is greyed out in the About This Mac window... how can I ungrey it to get info?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • When I open about this mac - more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth). Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desk-downloads)

When I open about this mac -> more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth) even though all the mac (programs , interface ) works smooth . Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desktop-downloads -no garbage there- everything neat and tidy.) Need some help. Only there it the animations goes like 2 fps and is not smooth. I do not understand why because the programs are the same so its the usage. Nothing is changed, yet i experience this little issue for a couple of days.

OK, I'm confused. When I do About this Mac > More Info in OS10.9, I don't see any animation other than the window resizing. Is that the animation you are describing?

  • Please help me put about this mac more info back to the original setting

my macbook pro, when i click about this mac and when I click on more info it doesnt show the orignal screen about the mac instead it show a big screen with alot of info, please help me fix it to the original way

If the System Profiler application isn't in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, the More Info button will be dimmed. Look for this application elsewhere on your hard disk; if it isn't on the hard disk, use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X installation disks and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

  • System Profiler won't launch/ About this Mac more info button grayed out

Panther 10.3.9 on 1.25 imac G4. I recently restored this mac to get ready to sell it and after the restore and Panther upgrade (from system discs) System Profiler no longer launches. I have run disk utility to repair permissions. The area in the dock opens up for the System Profiler icon but it just shuts right back down. I can't launch it directly from utilities and the "more info" button on the about this mac menu is grayed out. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

    Hi cornelius,
I posted the link to the thread due to the fact that there were a number of suggestions of troubleshooting the user could try to resolve their issue.
One was the standard Repair Disk/Repair Permissions, one was to reset PRAM (not sure why that was suggested in this particular case), and one was to check to see if it could be a font issue and one was to test with a new user account to see if the problem was system wide. And one was for reinstalling System Profiler by using Pacifist.
The OP in that thread did not post back to indicate if any of the suggestions helped but I thought that the OP here might benefit.
I wasn't suggesting anything specific as I personally have never had the problem but I thought those suggestions might help the OP.
Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?
    best as always,
