The cannot find symbol - variable..... error

i am recieving the "cannot find symbol variable getResident" error with the following line of code:
if (Client.getResident=true)
System.out.printf("Your Medicare Levy Contribution is: $%.2f %n", Client.getMedicare());
i cant figure out why, maybe someone else may know and be able to help, i know that with int or double type methods u put parenthesis at the end of the method name, such as;
while((Client.getGrossSalary())<=0)
but i tried that here and it didnt change anything except the errror message.
i have also tried putting parenthesis around the client.getResident, this didnt work either. i checked and made sure that the getResident method DOES in fact exist also.

and none of these work, most of these alternatives return the error: unexpected type (Resident variable is boolean)

E.getSource()         cannot find symbol - variable e

I'm currently developing a program for course I'm in that needs to allow a user to open a file, scan the information out of it and display the results.
I'm currently stuck on an error that's really confused me. On the line: if (e.getSource() == readButton) {
the compiler displays the following <cannot find symbol - variable e>.
If anyone could advise me as to my mistake I'd be very happy.

wow i simply added the
private StaugIO io = new StaugIO();
into my ServicesArray class and i got the process completed with no errors, thats awesome but what doesnt make sense is this summary of this assignment that i have:

No where in my code do i even have any of this so how would the user be able to see this? Is this program designed to just display the SERVICE CODE: and then the user types in the DG-4682? etc etc..
I ask this because I cannot view my dialog boxes because when I run the program i get nothing, just process completed, nothing else.

Variable name is a local variable defined in method main, so it can not be referenced by writing name in another method like sortArrayStr.
The good news is, if you want to call CTI from sortArrayStr, just do it:

error. "Symbol" here means variable or method name (or maybe class name, but I think it will specifically bitch about classnames in that case).

colorPanel.setbackgroundColor(new backgroungColor(color));Looks like colorPanel or setbackgroundColor(new backgroungColor doesn't exist.
Note that spelling and capitalization count. Java's really anal that way.

I have also tried to create web service model for the same webservice in local web dynpro project there it got build and deployed succesfully and i'm getting this error only with DC project (Track)

The javac compiler does not understand what "Console" means in your code. (BTW, to follow recommended coding conventions, you class should be named MyRSA - using coding conventions will get you better help.)
It appears that Console is a class you wrote or was given to you. You need to import it, if it is not in the same package as myRSA. And, the compiler needs to be able to find it through the Classpath.

Cannot find symbol class error

i am creating a min class that links several classes and i am doing the following

i am saving all the classes in the same folder , and i am having this error twice with each line that i creat an instance for a class

are your classes all in the same package? do you in fact use packages?

Unable to compile, cannot find symbol - variable arg

Hi, I'm new to Java. I have tried to compile the following code. but it won't work

It is because you a comparin a String to an int. This won't work. You need to convert your String to and int.
Take a look at this:

You need to read the API to check what methods you can use. If you have a problem with say a Sting then google for "Java String API" and view the methods in the String class. You need to make yourself familiar with whats available.

Under "apps" when I try to "save to" a folder in "file sharing" I get the "cannot find required file error".

I'm trying to save a document folder to my desktop from the file sharing.

Cannot find symbol error on first program

I just started studying computer programming and the first app in book does not compile and I get error "Cannot find symbol". Error points to last line of code System.out.printf( "Sum is %d\n", sum );
Code is copied from book so what is wrong?

If the OP were compiling with an older Java version,
the error would occur at the first line, not
the last; Scanner was also introduced in Java 5.
Anyway, that code compiles and runs fine on my
computer.Damn, didn't see the usage of Scanner.

The Traditional "cannot find symbol" error

As i already come across thru this error but i still getting clear about this. When i try to compile my VendServlet.java file the compiler shows this stupid error and i even check the classpath and all other formal check that we do when this kinda error comes. But it shows the same error. I even delete the class file of RMACPModel.java and re-compile
the file but it seems no worth of it. What can i do? And here the error msg for u

Are all files placed in the same package/folder? Are all classes declared to belong to that package? Are you sure that you have typed the class name correct? (Java is case sensitive)

I am trying to implement a simple RMI.
I have the following :
1. HelloInterface which has the SayHello method defined.
2. HelloImpl which has the implementation of Say Hello
3. Server code
4. Client code
the HelloInterface compiles properly.
but when i say javac HelloImpl

The problem is probably that the compiler can't find the file with that class definition.
Try changing your javac call so that is starts off
javac -classpath .
The dot is important!
If it works, then go read up on classpaths.
