The Case of the Deadly iTunes App...

It's 3AM, Friday, and my Mac Mini keeps locking up on EVERY run attempt to iTunes.
Caused by: Purchasing $12.00 of videos (@$1.99/each) and a music title (@$0.99). * Purchased within 5 minutes of time. * Also downloading multiple Podcasts.
Situation: Unstable Mac OS.
Repair Attempt #1: Force Quit iTunes... Takes 3-6 tries, then iTunes quits. System not responsive to mouse clicks nor key presses. Resolved by Unplugging the Mac.
Repair Attempt #2: Forced Single-user mode upon bootup. fsck -f reports system is OK. Reboot. Started iTunes, download resumes for 18 seconds. Force Quit of iTunes fails. (Done 21 attempts!)
Repair Attempt #3: Unplugged all USB devices, including the iPod, keeping only the keyboard and mouse. Started system. Started iTunes. Downloads resume. iTunes is now unstoppable. Unable to minimize the screen. Unable to load another application. Unable to shutdown/reboot. Mouse clicks ignored. Keyboard presses ignored. Force quit no go, etc. Loaded Terminal and entered "sudo shutdown -h now". System reports shutting down... After 10 minutes, it still says, "Shutting Down."
Repair Attempt #4: Re-Installed iTunes from Apple.com, presuming my source file is corrupted. iTMS purchases resume downloading for about 6 seconds. The spinning ball of death appears. ** Only effective means of acquiring control of computer is to unplug the power.
I just installed a Power-trip switch for the power supply of the Mac Mini because it seems I will be unplugging it more often.
Will be starting up my laptop running Windows XP, hoping that iTunes will work there.
Coming from the PC tech side, is my only resolution to get iTunes to work correctly of my Mac Mini is to FORMAT it? It's past 4AM PDT, and I need to get to sleep. My data is already backed up. So far, I have formatted the Mac Mini about twice within the 12 days I had the unit.
As I write this message in Safari, iTunes is spining the colorful ball while the downloads are proceeding. The system pauses my typing every 10 seconds.
This iTunes activity has not happened to me in Linux or Windows XP. In fact, in Windows XP, I was able to download the Chinese-language pod, all episodes, while playing a protected AAC video in iTunes. The initial crash in Mac OS X happened while viewing an MPG video (in iTunes) while downloading Purchased products and free podcasts.
Problem identified: iTunes prioritizes Podcasts and Purchases at the same level. Normally, I'm used to seeing three (3) downloads streams at once. This time, I see three (3) podcasts download streams PLUS one (1) Purchased stream. The podcasts downloads while the purchased stream stops.
Anyone have a solution for this iTunes Deadly App?
Marcos

Just fixed this on my machine, the easiest way to remove this pop-up assuming you are no longer needing that software to print is the following:
    Open Finder
    Go > Go To Folder...
    Type In: "~/Library/Application Support"
    Delete All Folders Named Kodak
    Open System Preferences
    Go to "Security & Privacy"
Click the lock and enter your admin password
    Click the Firewall Tab
    Go to "Firewall Options..."
    Find KodakAiO
Right-click KodakAiOBonjourAgent or equivalent (I forget the exact name)
    Click "Show in Finder"
Go Back to a folder and delete the Kodak Folder there.
Remove Kodak from Firewall Options by selecting it and clicking the " - " button the base of the list.
       or
    Open Finder
    Go > Go To Folder...
    Type In: "~/Library/Printers"
    Delete All Folders Named Kodak
I'm going off memory, so If I forgot something let me know.

  • Getting message, "Do you want the application "itunes.app"

Ever since the last update for iTunes when I open it I get the following message. How do I get it to "accept" every time without it showing the message and bugging me?
Do you want the application "itunes.app" to accept incoming network connection?" Deny Allow

I have an even better solution for you. No uninstalling or re-downloading.
In security (located in system preferences) Click the firewall tab followed by the advanced button down the bottom. Check all the applications you want are set to allow incoming connections. Close security preferences. Then open a finder window Navigate to -> Macintosh HD -> Library -> there will be a file called, com.apple.alf.plist delete it, reboot and your done. Deleting this small file re-builds the Firewall preferences and you will no longer be asked to accept incoming network connection every time you open an app. As long as the app your opening is on the list in the firewall tab your good to go Email me at [email protected] if this worked for you

  • How do I Authorize my iPad with the preinstalled iTunes app?

I found the directions on how to authorize my iPad.  The problem is that the preinstalled iTunes app does not have a "store" menu to select "authorize this computer".  Can anyone help?

Thanks for the reply.  I rented an hd movie from itunes and downloaded it to an external wifi drive that designed to work with iPads so I can play the movie.  It says I need to authorize the iPad before it will play the movie.  It's a goflex wifi drive.  I can see the movie file on my iPad when it's connected to the drive but it does not play.  There are other videos on the drive with the same file format and they play fine (but theyre not rentals or purchased).  I did sync the iPad and my pc but nothing worked.  Ended up loading the movie right on my iPad, exactly what I did not want to do.  Thoughts are welcome.

  • I updated iTunes from the update message and now my Windows computer (at work- I use Mac at home) keeps sending me error messages about MobileMe and iTunes. It indicates a .dll error but I can't find any such file. I tried removing the entire ITunes app.

I downloaded an update to my iTunes app on my work Windows computer and now I am constantly getting error messages about MobileMe, when I download a webpage and marked slowness of my Outlook application. I tried removing iTunes and reloading directly from the Apple site, but no change. One of my peers is having the same issue and messages.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is the iPad iTunes app quite different than the regular PC

I'm new to iPad. I went to check out iTunes app on iPad, and it is so limited what you can do. Very different than regular PC. Is there something I am missing?

It depends on what you want to see/manage - you can tap on your id at at the bottom of, for example, the Music tab in the iTunes app (or via Settings > iTunes & App Stores) and you can view/manage your id, address and payment info.

  • I want the old iTunes App back!

    Hi,
I'm using Windows XP and for years I've had no problem with the iTunes App. Either on my PC or synching with my iPhone.
Now this new Version 11 will not allow me to get into the iTunes Stores. (Yes, I have v11.01.12)
I can play music but not get the front screen to the iTunes store.
I can login and out and see my account balance at the top.
The status bar moves to 3/4 when accessing the store (after showing my login and balance) the bottom window stays white, then it crashes with an error message.
    I have...
    (1) restarted my computer multiple times
    (2) applied the Autoruns to find only Apple's Bonjour there
    (3) I have contacted my Virus App Company ZoneAlarms to be shown how to allow all Apple's sites access through my Firewall
    (4) I have run the Windows Enable/Disable Fix (both ways) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2639417 and tested this against iTunes multiple times
    (5) I have checked that my XP (SP3) OS is up to date
NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO WORK THIS HARD FOR SOMEBODY ELSE'S EXPERIMENTAL VERSION OF A APP WITH THE END RESULT BEING THE END USER (ME) CONSTANTLY GIVING APPLE MONEY BY USING IT. (By d'ling from the ITunes Store)
This version App 11 is so slow to open compared to the old version. When closing it leaves 2 icons in the system tray.
I want the old understandable, fully functioning iTunes for PC App back.
Apple are losing business as we speak. Other people are trying all these workarounds for their development team and not getting anywhere either.
I need a link to the old App please. I've had enough of this poorly thought out version. This version isn't an improvement. It's a slow, confusing, ill functioning mess.

    Hi Caroline--
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To see shared music, you need to open iTunes' preferences and enable the "Show: Radio" checkbox in the "General" pane. That seems to affect whether iTunes will look for shared music.
Also, I've found that with iTunes 5, I sometimes need to relaunch iTunes on the "server" machine for the other copies of iTunes on the network to recognize its shared library.

  • Restoring the actual iTunes app to my iPhone

I can't remember how, but somehow I removed the actual Apple iTunes app from my iPhone some time ago for some unknown reason.
Someone suggested that my phone must be jailbroken to do this - I assure you that my phone is not jailbroken and it never has been, and I am running 3.0.1 on it.
I have no idea how I did it, and I have no idea how to get it back. I searched for iTunes in iPhone's search, and it's definitely not there. Of course, the Apple apps don't show up in the Applications section in iTunes, so I can't select it to sync to my phone.
I couldn't find any other threads on this, but if there is one, please point me to it - otherwise, PLEASE HELP!

Have you checked restrictions? Is it on another screen?
Otherwise a restore would be a good option.

  • Can't download my podcast on the iphone itunes app

I made an enhanced podcast and submitted it to itunes but even though I can subscribe to the feed, sync it to my phone, and listen to it in all its podcasty glory, I can not download the same episode from the itunes app on my I phone.
I called tech support and they didn't have an answer my phone, garage band and itunes are all up to date.
Anybody seen anything like this before? Could my feed be messed up? I use squarespace.com's wysiwyg tools to control and manage my site and its feed.

I don't have an iPhone so this isn't something I can check. You could try asking in the iPhone Forum: give your podcast details and someone may be able to try it out and see what happens.

  • Is there any way to download the full iTunes app on my iPad just like the one on my iMac?

The iTunes app on my iPad will not allow me to create wish lists nor does it have the my alerts or just added features. It is like an abbreviated version of iTunes. Is there any way to get the complete version like the one I have on my iMac?

    No.
iTunes on the iPad is a store only and iTunes on a Mac is the media player as well as a storgae library for all of your purchased content.
The preinstalled apps cannot be deleted, redownloaded or updated either. Updates for the preinstalled apps come with the iOS updates.

  • Why is it that after I download the online itunes app it tells me I need a disc to finish the download?

I have tried to download the online app to my laptop but when I try to install it after downloading it I get a message that I need a disc to download
the app. Any reasons this would happen? I have never had this problem in the past. I lost the playback feature of Itunes so I deleted it and when I tried
to reinstall it I came up with the error.

    As soon as you edit:
    1. File name
    2. Artist
    3. Album Artist
when sorting by date added, it will do that because essentially you've created a "new file" as far as the XML file for your library is concerned.
I agree it's a major pain, but the solution is to NOT sort by date when editing track info for individual tracks. It took me a while to figure that out and "train" myself not to edit under "date added", but I eventually learned.

  • TS1717 Since i Updated to iTunes 11.0.1 i keep getting this "Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections?"

    Hi all,
I have Just started to get the above message pop up since i updated to iTunes 11.0.1. I am running OSX 10.8.2 and its all up to date. I dont want to didable the firewall un less i have to. Have tryed to re-install iTunes but still not joy dont really want tohave to re-install everything if there is an easy way to stop other than turning off my firewall
    Many thanks
    Gavin

Under your firewall options you can specify what apps to let through
It would probably been better to post this under iTunes for Mac instead of iTunes for Windows

  • The application iTunes.app can't be opened (-36)

I have just but the latest Macbook Pro installed with Mac OS X v10.7.4. I am alarmed at the many applications that are not compatible. However, iTunes not being able to play an mp3 is a shocking low.
I am getting the error message in the subject line. Can anyone help with resolving this issue?
    Thanks All.

Hi again Kirk. Well, before attempting your solution I thought I would try again to move tracks to the iTunes application without copying the file to the iTunes folder. And guess what? It worked. It seems to be fine now.
The only action I have completed is to restart the computer. Perhaps I should have tried that in the first place, however, with a new Macbook Pro I just didn't expect to encounter such a basic problesm. Nonetheless, thank you for your time and effort.

  • The latest version (10.3.1) of itunes and "Do you want the application 'iTunes.app' to accept incoming network connections?"

I keep getting this message when I open iTunes. it is super annoying and won't go away. It is accepted in the firewall in the automatically allow signed software to to recieve incoming connections. what can i do about this?

Obviously you replaced the grey icons on the left for the colored ones, by replacing the iTunes.rsrc with a hacked iTunes.rsrc file. Restore the old file and everything will be OK. If you want the colored icons wait for the updated hack for iTunes 10.3.1.
    succes
