The Case of the Missing Podcast

I just bought an iPod Touch a few days ago. I installed the 2.0 software, and I've figured out how to manually synch and all that, and I've been listening to podcasts and music and watching videos with little problem. However, yesterday I downloaded the latest episode of the Car Talk podcast. I dragged it over to manually synch it, and it synched, but it wasn't listed in my podcasts on my Touch when I tried to listen to it. It also wasn't in my music list--at least, I'm pretty sure; I do have a few hundred songs in there already. I haven't figured out how to do a search for it, if that's even possible.
I tried synching again several times, but it acted like the MP3 file was already in there--that is, it would do the synch thing for a moment and then stop.
I also tried going to iTunes directly from the Touch to download it, but I live in Japan, and my Touch will only go to the Japanese iTunes Store...and apparently they don't carry Car Talk. Sigh.
No problems with any other podcasts, just that one. But it's my favorite! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

value = value;Oh, so you have one of those new compilers that reads your mind and knows which value is which in that statement, huh?
Lucky.
The rest of us are stuck doing this.value = value;so that the compiler can distinguish the member variable from the method parameter.

  • Missing podcasts and Vista

I am having the same problem that others have experienced with iTunes in that podcasts that I have sucessfully downloaded subsequently disappear the next time I start iTunes.
I have seen the solution for an XP system, but Vista saves the user info in a slightly different way. Does anyone know which folders to delete under Vista?
Plus, is there a fix coming anytime soon? This is getting frustrating to the point that I am ready to junk iTunes and find another program to manage and move my podcasts.
I would say that about 20% of my podcasts are being affected by this problem. What really angers me is that I have been unable to find a way to redownload or fix short of having to go into the iTunes store and find the missing podcast.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    @King_Penguin thanks for your help
    See below some additional info:
    I have 3 Macs:
    1 X MBPr 2012 (OS X 10.9.1
    1 X MBPr 2012 (OS X 10.8.5)
    1 X iMac 2009 (OS X 10.8.5)
    1) All 3 Macs have access to same accounts and have same apps in iTunes.
    2) Problem is only found on both MBPr's 2012 with one NL and 1 US account. With one NL account (inactive) I have no issue on all three.
FYI I have multiple iTunes accounts: 2 for the Netherlands and 1 for US.
I also tried this after deleting the only 2 apps I got from the US iTunes Store but that did not solve my issue.
I think the matter is related to my iTunes account(s) and NOT to a computer (prefs file)

  • ITunes 8 -  podcast count includes missing podcast episodes

In iTunes 8 (under podcasts tab) most of my podcasts seem to have disappeared, but they are still included in the episode count for each show. For example, iTunes says I have 20 episodes of MacBreak Weekly, and 3 not-listened to, but only one episode displays when I click the icon to open MacBreak Weekly. The counts are probably about correct for the number of podcasts I previously had, but where are all the missing podcast episodes, and why are they counted if they are not there? I couldn't find anyone else posting this problem.
    Any ideas?

I am also having the same issue. The count shows what I expect it to show, but the list is missing podcasts. If I dig into the file system, the Podcasts are there, but no matter what, I can not get them to show in Itunes8

  • The Strange Case of the Missing Shared Devices...

    Dear Forum,
I am currently having intermittent trouble with the connection of shared devices.
The network consists of a MBP, Qnap TS109 and a Canon printer hooked up via LAN to a WAG200G. The Qnap serves music to a PS3 (WLAN) and the Mac and also serves as a TimeMachine back up device.
The problem is that every so often I lose my Shared Devices in the Finder side-bar. They just disappear.
I have managed to reconnect by playing with the Network connections preferences, but as I suspected (due to exhausting the permutations), this solution has come to an end and now I cannot urge them to reappear (unless I restart (which is a solution, but not an entirely satisfactory one)…
All devices have been set to use static IP address (none conflict).
The Mac’s settings are as follows:
    TCP/IP-
Configure IPv4 Manually: then my IP address.
Subnet and router are both correct as I can connect to the Qnap & WAG admin pages and internet (I’m not sure if that is a correct test of these settings, but the numbers are correct).
    Configure IPv6: Off.
Under DNS : I have entered both DNS servers as per the instructions of the ISP (I have been with them for years and these are correct).
WINS- (I don’t know what this is but…)
NETBIOS Name: the name of my Mac (All uppercase (don’t know why, but looks definitely windows (ish))
    Workgroup: (blank)
    WINS Servers (blank),
802.1X & Proxies: everything is per the default setting as I have never touched anything in these options.
    Ethernet-
    ID: My Mac MAC
    Configure: Auto
Speed, Duplex and MTU have never been touched, but I am assuming that Auto covers these.
Under Network (System Preferences), then Location: Auto, then next to Status: Connected (currently active and correct IP)
The WAG is the only thing on this mini network that sets DHCP, I could change this to disable as everything has it’s own Static IP, but is there any need?
(I hope I am getting the terminology correct and not inadvertently creating confusion.)
The PS3 sees the Twonky server in the Qnap, so I am not sure if that is an issue, it doesn’t appear to be.
    So why the missing devices?
None of this would actually be a problem if it was not for the fact that once the Qnap disappears from the Finder side-bar, TimeMachine does not back up (yet I can connect via a browser to the Qnap, even if it is not present in the side-bar).
The problem is I feel as though my thinking is a bit blinkered as I am only concentrating on the Network connection aspect, yet I am afraid I am not entirely sure what else I should be considering. That is to say what is causing the Mac hooked up to a perfectly adequate connection/ functioning network to suddenly cause it to drop the devices, yet retain connection by other means?
Unfortunately a forum member had exactly the same problem but sadly removed the query from open questions.
It goes without saying (but there is no harm in me saying it anyway), but any help would be appreciated.

    Bump
This recently happened to me as well, actually it's happened for awhile, and only recently have begun to try to find the answers. Did you ever find out what happened?
Also seems like this post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11367180
But that has no answers posted either. Perhaps a reformat and stick with 10.6.2, which is what I think the last version the "Shared Devices" automatically showed without deliberately mounting a network drive.
My situation is pretty much the same, "Shared Devices" do not automatically show up on the left sidebar. If I know the IP address or netbios name, I can mount network hard drives: Command + K and smb://ipaddress
My Computers, I have an iBook G4, which used to automatically pop up; a Windows7 computer that used to automatically show; and an Ubuntu 10.04 computer that would show up as well for screen sharing and smb.
Possible culprits include: netbios/smb problems, mDNSresponder/Bonjour problems, other networking config. No settings permutations have fixed the problem.

  • The Case of the Missing Image

    Go to this link:
    http://fyiboerne.info/wcid.html
This page is a very simple HTML page which displays two
things: a "< GO BACK" link, which is visible and working
properly, and one jpg image (file name: wcid#2.jpg) which is not
    visible.
I would love to know what is going on here.
Both the html page, and the lone image are in place on the
remote server; however, when I test the page on my testing server
it comes up blank as it does from the browser when online. I've
tried pop-up windows, a download to a pdf version of the .jpg....IT
IS ALWAYS BLANK. Moreover, I have purged the entire site and put it
back...dumped the html file and completely rebuilt it...tried
opening the pdf file and jpg file in Photoshop and Acrobat, where
the image always comes up. In Photoshop, I flattened the layers.
The image shows up in Dreamweaver, but fails to appear in a
preview (using Firefox and Safari), and fails to appear on the
    Internet.
I included the source code for this link in the event anyone
can see a problem. The first source code appears on the page which
links to the page in question. The second source code is the code
from the page with the missing image.
    THANKS!
    HELP!

Removing the "#" character from the file name fixed the
    problem. Thanks!

  • Case of the missing 15GB...

    Hi,
I have a really strange problem with some missing Hard Disk space.
I installed boot camp and had a 15GB Windows partition working fine. It all went a bit wrong when I tried to remove the partition.
I used the boot camp assistant to remove the partition and recover the space but when I rebooted as requested, I got the folder with the flashing question mark boot error.
It refused to boot at all so I did an archive and install, which worked perfectly except that the 15GB from the boot camp partition is now inaccessible!
If I 'get info' on the OS X volume in the finder, it shows 96GB capacity. In Disk Utility however, both the physical drive and the OS X partition show 111GB capacity!?
I've run verify and repair on both the physical disk and the OS X volume, but still no sign of the missing 15GB.
Apple Phone support suggested that I do a complete wipe clean and re-install, re-partitioning the drive as I do. But I'm loath to go through the polava of getting my system set up a third time.
    Any suggestions?

Hi tekin, Welcome to Apple Discussions. As advised by support, an erase and install would clear up your problems. I understand your reluctance to go ahead with this, as it isn't a quick process, however, the only easier way is to use a proprietary utility e.g. Disk Warrior to repair your disk.
    Link here .. (http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/).
Or, as I have done, get a external hard drive and back up - (for next time)!
    Best wishes,
    Robert.

  • The Strange Case of the Missing Network Icon

Can anyone help my buddy Tom - who is running a G4 iBook with OS X Panther? He is unable to get onto his wireless network and here is the problem in his own words:
"Had a moment to muck about in the iBook drive, following data crumbs from the all-pervasive Network software. Apparently, all that spinning of the drive over regions containing bits and bytes of the application managed to cobble together enough of Network to launch an e-mail, which I immediately determined had to go to you. This is strictly a spit-and-string enterprise, similar to a baling wire and soup can exhaust system fix, and likely the only e-mail I'll get off until I complete an entire system restore. Think of it as a faulty telephone connection - you can hear me, but I can't hear you. So, don't bother to respond, as your e-mail will probably languish in my Inbox for the time it takes me to resurrect OS X.
What brought me to this point is my reasoning Network isn't a stand-alone application like a word processor, but rather a "network" (clever, eh?) piece of software with files strewn through other software so they can access various aspects of it. For example, World Book Encyclopedia accomplishes a software update without launching Safari; connecting to its mother ship via but another piece of Network that happens to reside within the program. I guess this approach is what put the "i" in iBook, and it seems to work pretty well...until moments like this. Perhaps Steve Jobs outsourced to Hansel and Gretel to create a new marketing twist.
Anyway, I've talked this all up with a number of people, and the universal response seems to be; "Huh? I've never heard such a thing.". I even managed to mightily confuse Dave and he's got an awful lot of Mac expertise. But the real kicker, when explaining how I reasoned it all out, is when I mention the key to my understanding was when I noticed the missing Network icon. That's when their eyes glaze over and it's apparent they can't quite wrap their brain around the idea. I've deduced how to cajole the Finder to reveal this Archimedean moment, and included a pair of attachments so you, too, can share in my AHA!! revelation. Running this all past Dave had him agreeing I seem to have a handle on it, but the sheer complexity of all those .exec files squirreled here, there, and everywhere still had him scratching his head.
Interestingly, I have to coerce the Finder to display the icon example; you can't simply click it into existence. I do it by plugging in a travel drive, opening same, then ejecting it. The Finder then defaults to what you see (the word Network with no icon).
Speaking of attachments, I was so tempted to wade through all 70 (70!!) e-mails in my inbox, but was fearful my MacGyvered patch would fail before getting this off to you.
Time to fade back into the black hole from whence I came. When I close Safari it'll relinquish its tenuous grasp on the Network .exec file it's hacked to."
Any ideas on what's wrong and how it can be fixed? I'll see that they get passed on to Tom.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iMac

Before the mid-1980s, networking might have been implemented with a lot of goofy little routines (.exec's if you must) calling one another. About that time the CCITT (an international telecommunications standards committee made up of Academic and Industrial representatives) did a lot of work abstracting and then standardizing the functions that various parts of a network perform.
The CCITT refined the notion of a Layered Network Architecture and specified the types of activities performed in each layer. Shortly thereafter Apple implemented Open Transport and delivered it into the marketplace in System 7.5.3.
Apple networking has been very well-behaved and under control since then. It does not tend to "get lost" or "lose track of things". It really is very good. With only a few limitations, you can connect Macs running 7.5.3 through 10.3.9 and have File Sharing work without regard to what versions are talking to each other.

  • How can I get iTunes to not show multiples of the same podcasts in my iPhone?

Not all, but some have the same episdoe multiple times. Every sync seems to add another one of them. This happens, through iTunes, in my iPhone 5. In iTunes, I show that I have 69 unplayed podcasts. When I sync, I can see it got to 68 for my phone (likely one is in the cloud), but then it flashes and now it shows 113. When I look at the unplayed podcasts, I show that some of them have as many as 17 of the same episode in my phone. When I go to my phone's podcast app, I see it once.
It doesn't happen to all episodes, and I can't find anything in common between those that it does happen to. The newest update to the podcast app and itunes brought back some features that have been missing for over a year, but this is getting weird.
    iTunes 11.2.1 (1)
    IOS 7.1.1

After a couple of days, I'm noticing that the repeat(ing) offenders have more than 10 episodes, and seem to keep repeating them every time I sync.
They only show once in my phone and in the iTunes Podcasts, but through iTunes and looking at what's in my phone is when I see the repeats.
Even after I've marked a podcast as played, and deleted it from within my phone, as well as telling iTunes to delete the played episodes, it still shows multiples of the played episodes.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either. They aren't the newest ones either.

  • Multiple copies of the same podcast?

Why do I get multiple copies of the same podcast with different episodes in iTunes?  Is there a way of merging them into a single
podcast?  On my iMac, I may delete some episodes and add others.  When syncing with my iPhone, a new podcast is created rather
than updating the existing podcast.  At times, I've ended up with four different podcasts of the same program and finding a specific episode
    means searching thru all four.

I have been experiencing the same problem, and unfortunately sanfranciscotx's suggestion doesn't address or resolve the issue.
iTunes is behaving inconsistently.  There are podcasts for which I have selected the "Download All" option and it only downloads new podcasts that have been released since the last time it was checked, regardless of how many podcasts were released in that time, without downloading old podcasts.
In another case, the "Download All" option is selected, and it works as I would expect (the above scenario) for some time, but then one week it will start downloading a bunch of older podcasts as the original poster has mentioned.
I am running iTunes 10.5.3, so I'm lead to believe the issue lies with the server where the podcasts are stored or the podcast feed and not with iTunes.

  • HT201269 Is there a way to download/port the missing data/SMS to one iPhone without overwriting the new SMS on the newer iPhone?

SMS Transferring/downloading/backup : Is there a way to download/port the missing data/SMS to one iPhone without overwriting the new SMS on the newer iPhone? Here is my dilemma. My iPhone quit working and I couldn’t get it fixed as quickly as I needed to. I bought a used iPhone and started using it normally and downloaded the backup from itunes/icloud. There was a large gap in data where the first iPhone didn’t backup when I thought it had. I have SMS data on both phonesnow and  I need them for a court hearing. I have since had the other iPhone repaired and working perfectly. Will downloading a backup wipe out the newer SMS data? I am nervous because I can’t lose the information or my case mey be compromised. Any “Real Help” including programs that work to accomplish this would be very helpful. Thank You in advance…

No, direct access to manipulating the phone's filesystem is not permitted for 3rd party apps in the iOS.  It can't be done without hacking the phone, which you certainly don't want to do.  The messages can be combined and viewed on your computer, but not on a single phone.

  • In the current "Podcast" app is there a way to play ALL episodes of ALL podcasts chronologically from oldest to newest like there was in the "Unplayed Episodes" list of the original "Podcast" app?

In the original version of the Podcasts app there was an "Unplayed Episodes" list that listed ALL the episodes of ALL the podcasts I had loaded on to my device, and I could listen to them in chronological order from oldest to newest.
In the new Podcasts update I see a list called "All Unplayed" but when I select a podcast from there it plays all the episode of JUST THAT podcast, without switching between podcasts to whatever episode on my device is chronologically next.
Is there a way to listen to my podcasts chronologically across Podcast series and I'm just missing it or did Apple screw the pooch on this one?

Please, please, please... I wonder if the solution of deleting the Podcast App and using the Music App again would work.  My favorite sports radio station splits up their podcasts by DJ (logical), but I want to listen to all podcasts from one day from all DJs.  No longer automatic :(
Apple developers, if you read this please add this feature - you had it in Music App.

  • The new podcast app is using up my data plan

The new "podcast app" is using up my data plan like crazy! Its costing me much much more money now to listen to my podcast. They want donations to keep them "free" but this is much much futher from free. What is going on! I want it to go back to the way it was. Please dont tell me about them being free on WIFI I know that. I dont live in the city so the only WIFI is never where I can get it when I use them. Even driving down the road , if I loose service the podcast stops and my bill is over the top! What can I do to make it stop!!!!!??? This is a very bad move.
Also what is the yellow "other" on my itunes sync thing that show how much of what is using up the space on my phone? I have taken almost everything off of the phone and almost half of the space is the yellow other. I can not wipe my phone and start over I have legal text messages I have to keep for court on my phone.
Im very unhappy with this move of Apples and others are unhappy with it too or havent caught on to it yet.
Please change it or let us know what to do to end this issue.
    thank you
    ami
PS, I will be contacting the the podcasts to let them know that the donations will now be going to pay for the NO LONGER FREE PODCASTS.

This has been really frustrating me too!  I made sure the 'use data' was turned off in settings, and yet when I was listening to a podcast, it went from one that I had downloaded to one that I hadn't downloaded without stopping, so I used up a ton of data!  It was because I was 'subscribed' to that podcast, which meant every darn episode ever was appearing in my list of podcasts - you can set it to download them automatically, but I don't want to download every single podcast for some, and there's no way to easily pick and choose like there used to be (with the 'get more podcasts' button).  In the end, I've just unsubscribed from all my podcasts, and I'll go find them one by one - it's really annoying, but it seems like it's all (downloading every possible episode, which for some is a lot weekly) or downloading manually by going to the catalogue.  I miss the old podcasts.  Also, I don't think it's cooler that it's not merged with my other music anymore.  Why was that necessary?

  • How to know what are the missing items in 'Collect Files' ?

I used 'Collect Files' to gather my medias for my project, but it's giving me this error in log:
    Number of missing items:  1
This project is pretty huge so how can I find out which items is missing ?
I don't see any offline layers in my sequences...
    Thank you.

Do you have a file that is bigger than 2gb in size ? I know that on some cases Collect file won't move file with size over 2gb (if i'm correct, not sure about this).
If you are on CS4, open you collected file project and type "missing" in the search text field of the project panel, and AE will show you all the missing files.
You can also have a look at the log file created when you collected the file to see wat file is missing.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get a list of the missing files?

I recently filled up my hard drive so I moved my iTunes library to another drive. All went fine but some files were supposedly missing. No problem there I just used the locate feature to find them in there new location.
My problem is that on locating the last file that was marked with the "!" iTunes told me there is still 106 files missing yet there are no more files marked with the "!"
Is there anyway I can get iTunes to give me a list of these supposed missing files?
    Thanks

    Macpass,
I just went through this last weekend.
I was told iTunes won't produce a list or show you "just" the missing file names.
The good news is I found a-work-around. Here what I found that worked for me.
Go to the m"Music" view. Then pick to view "Songs".
At this point you should see your files ( all types = music, podcasts, movies, etc.) one per line. In the left most column you will see it has no header name.  In that left column you will see the "!" you are looking for. It might not be on the first screen, so page down. I have over 28,000 files.... so it took several page down.. But it went fast and I found them all.
    Hope this works for you!
    Good luck
    Steve
